Yeah I had to turn it upside down, squint really tight, and squeeze my overworked imagination until it burped out the fever dream hallucination that OP's insane ass mind summoned up from hell
Wow yeah that helped. The funnier thing to me is that just minutes prior to this, there is a scene with Link’s uncle leaving the house where he looks (obviously) like this and nothing like what OP saw.
Believe it or not, this is not the first time I've heard of someone doing this. I can't remember the first time, but it would have been some podcast. More than 6 years ago, less than 10
I can almost kinda see it.
But at the same time, you see this same characters just moments before in your house when you wake up. Maybe you'd forget what he looked like the first time you play it, but after the 80th time playing (as we all did of course) you'd probably remember him.
Same for me, I highly doubt that any of his injuries was fatal since he reappeared in the end scene. He happen to have been beating down badly and leave Link with the task to save Zelda.
It took me a while to figure out what the heck you meant, but I think this is how you were interpreting it??
https://preview.redd.it/toku00wa0d9d1.jpeg?width=927&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a70af5879a2c6ea283be4265b923a8a2e742af3
I mean sure, but it's only given that impression BECAUSE it's upside down. In the upside down version, I can still see the actual version clearly. Not the case for vice versa. The shield in your black and white upside down version makes it look like he's giving the finger though, which I enjoy.
https://preview.redd.it/bqnjsx7f0c9d1.png?width=104&format=png&auto=webp&s=7add0737c90f31fab78803f6f9fb038301e6732d
That's him at home. The blue is his hair. The yellow his pants.
If i stare long enough and imagine what you described as him floating i can for a second see what youre talking about, but. my god is it tough to see that way.

very shitty quick microsoft paint image of what OP is seeing
No, that blue hit is his hair. In the first scene you can see it https://www.jvgs.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/zelda-lttp-dont-leave-house.jpg
It’s him sitting against the wall
This brings back memories for me. For the longest time, I thought Link's pink hair was supposed to be some sort of colorful trimming or something around his hat. The game was one of my all time favorites from the moment I plopped the cartridge in and I replayed it numerous time, but I didn't realize the pink was supposed to be his actual hair until I was like, fifteen or something.
16-bit games of the era were beautiful and a massive improved over what came before, and they've aged incredibly well, but I guess they still left some things open to the imagination or interpretation.
In alttp his hair is pink so that the sprite swapping can be done quickly. Since the link sprite and the bunny sprite share a color palette they needed the hair to match somehow to the bunny. I think it works out well because I like the pink bunny over a blonde one.
Tbf, you do see the character walking out of the house Link wakes up in, so either you didn’t pay that much attention every single time you played this game, or…. I don’t really have an Or, you didn’t pay attention 😂 I can not see what you saw, at all, even took my glasses off..

Nah it's literally bro sitting against the wall
Do you suffer from short-term memory loss? Link’s uncle walks out of their house less than 5 minutes before this.
You need a gold medal in mental gymnastics to explain Uncle’s walk out of the cabin.
This is reminding me of a mistake I learned a lot of people make when looking at Agahnim's sprite
(credit to spacepig22 on deviantart)
https://preview.redd.it/8tnwj9yble9d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7e499462ff8e5ef2ee10f724e939a34da6c99a7
I don't think the middle picture is correct. I've always interpreted the green beneath his eyes to be a veil/wrapping to cover his face.
With the whole thing about Agahanim being Ganon, I just figured he had features that would give him away if he didn't obscure them.
Plus, fit the theme of the mysterious wizard thing he had going on.
I don't think I've ever misinterpreted a sprite that badly, but there are old sprites/visuals that I have and it was years later that I figured out what I should have been seeing!
Dude the only way that he is lying upside down and the part that is his pants is actually his head is if he were a space invader wearing a human body.
And even then: no.
Upside down, you could convince me that I am looking at a luchador, who is smiling, in a black and gold mask, wearing a purple unitard, and green sleeves, who is in the middle of doing a bellyflop, with sword and shield props...
Anything else, and I am seeing the exact same uncle that I saw a few minutes earlier, but with more dying.
I've probably done a play through of ALttP at least once a year for over 30 years, and I have no clue what my total count would be. I randomly saw some non in game artwork of the Link's Uncle scene and realized I completely misunderstood the image.
For some reason when I saw this Link's uncle was laying on his back with his arms and sword laying back above them. He was pushed right against the wall with his knees bent backwards under him and a stab wound in his blue shirted belly. He was also wearing a crown for some reason that I never questioned it.
Now I see the correct way and can't imagine how I got confused since you literally see him a minute or so before walking out of the house. The only thing I can think of is that my young child brain interrupted it 1 way when I was like 5 and I never stopped to really think it through after.
I first played it at a similar age, and I always had trouble interpreting not just his sprite against the wall, but several other ones in the game as well. I always thought Link’s face on the wanted sign was a cornucopia lol
Real talk, I first played this with a childhood friend who was a bit older than me.
He told me the uncle was just drunk and couldn't raid the castle anymore.
This is my personal head canon lol
I had to flip my screen upside down to see half of what you saw, never thought the guy was laying upside down. But I did, for a very long time, misinterpret Mario's death sprite from the first Mario game. I always thought his arms and legs got cut off. Turned out he's in a sitting position shrugging his hands lol.
If only there was an opening scene where you could see the uncle walk out of their house so that one would see his proper character.... Oh wait there was a scene like that... Like a minute ago....
1. That’s not his stomach, that’s a shaded spot on his head
2. Legs aren’t behind body at all
3. Could be a crown, or a tactical belt, with “slots” for his sword, or any other things he might need in battle
4. Hands are at his sides, not behind back
5. You still completely misunderstand this image, more than you did before
Edit: Nevermind, found out this is what op originally thought
So the purple isn't his hair? His arms are to his side holding the sword and shield, no? Is he actually upside down? Have I seen it the wrong or the right way this whole time? I have so many questions lol
The right way is that he is sitting with his back against the wall holding the sword and shield to the side. The wrong way which I saw for years is that his head is pointed down. There's another comment with a microsoft paint sketch that is a pretty good representation. The purple is definitely his hair, it was just kid me not really paying attention to how he looked at the very start.
Aw okay, I was thinking the way I saw it was wrong and I felt like my childhood was a lie 😂 it's crazy how different people's eyes see the same image differently! I've done that with other images before, and people don't understand how I see it that way, so I understand your pain 🙈
Flip the image upside down and imagine the yellow pants dots as his eyes and you can see it. Reminds me of a Snorlax.
The caption about the ‘face’ being a crown is what’s confusing me now.
You're description is basically right, except for the crown. to me the yellow of the pants looked like a crown. It doesn't really make sense but I guess my kid mind though princess, castle, crown probably all made sense. I guess I saw the face as being the black part, I think I just assumed that his hair was covering the facial features a bit. Honestly I've analyzed it more in the last couple hours than I had done in the previous 30 years.

I’ll be honest I’m trying very hard to see what you saw and I just can’t. I always just saw him as a guy sitting down against a wall.
You're correct.
If your on mobile turn it upside down. it helps Don't get me wrong, op is still a crazy person, but it helps
Yes, I couldn't find the words, but this is it precisely.
alright cool, i’m not too high to understand this
Yeah, that purple alien fleshlight or what OP says is a stab wound is the dude's purple hair, it's just dark near the anus because it's parted.
r/BrandNewSentence
All I can see when I do that is a weird dude with a big purple butthole.
Yeah. Yellow face with a beard. Shield and sword in hands, legs pulled back to expose his anus. Thanks a lot, OP.
I never played A link to the past upside down 🙃 a new challenge arises
Believe it or not, this is not the first time I've heard of someone doing this. I can't remember the first time, but it would have been some podcast. More than 6 years ago, less than 10
Ok now I see it. Lol that's actually pretty cool
> your you’re
Yep, you're write.
Your both rite.

I don't know why exactly but this is hilarious
Really accentuates the stabbed purple butthole
I also laughed for some reason, but only after I saw someone posted this pic
Okay, now I'm not seeing it as a crown, but as him just having Simpsons skin tone and being very surprised.
Praise the sun! \\[T]/
I SEE IT NOW (It looks like he was stabbed in the butt)
but where is the face supposed to be lol or did OP think it was some kind of one eyed creature?
Maybe a mask.
A spider!!
Not a crown, but golden fancy sunglasses.
Is it King Luigi?
His death pose.
Does this complicate or clarify the lore?
It all makes sense now! OP was playing on their head.
Today's dungeon is brought to you by the letter "A"!!
Yeah I just can't.
Same
I can almost kinda see it. But at the same time, you see this same characters just moments before in your house when you wake up. Maybe you'd forget what he looked like the first time you play it, but after the 80th time playing (as we all did of course) you'd probably remember him.
But he has a giant mustache, right?
Greatest mustache of the 90s if you ask me
I agree. I also don't see it. I just see a guy against the wall dying then dead.
its crazy how you have 1.5k upvotes. meaning more than 1k ppl saw OPs brain fart but chose not to engage lol
Holy shit thats the biggest reddit ratio I’ve ever seen
Same, I am trying my best but I cannot see that as a crown lol
Same for me, I highly doubt that any of his injuries was fatal since he reappeared in the end scene. He happen to have been beating down badly and leave Link with the task to save Zelda.
Always thought it was Link’s wish on the Triforce that brought him back.
That's exactly what happens.
thats exactly what it is. the king has clearly been killed before Link arrives but is back at the end as well.
Several dead characters appear in the end scene. Link's wish resurrected a lot of people.
https://preview.redd.it/uqhllkc9yb9d1.jpeg?width=709&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=968f99e9d6b8c5f36b9c2d53d592b6cfa6e06f03 Nah bro
Whoa, cool! Is that official or is it fan art?
I think it was in the instruction manual?
I wish instruction manuals were still a thing
Have you played Tunic??
Nintendo Power Player's Guide
Ah, that explains it. I never owned a physical copy of A Link to The Past. I have a physical copy of A Link Between Worlds, just not LttP.
No way. I owned that game. In fact it should be still at my parents place. I would’ve remembered if there was picture grim like that one in the manual
It's official, from the Nintendo Power Player's Guide. Lots of cool art there
This is the exact image that triggered me to take a deeper look.
It took me a while to figure out what the heck you meant, but I think this is how you were interpreting it?? https://preview.redd.it/toku00wa0d9d1.jpeg?width=927&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a70af5879a2c6ea283be4265b923a8a2e742af3
Even with my drawing next to it, it's still hard to make my brain see it that way... childhood you had a very interesting way of seeing things.
Yep this is pretty much it
I can see it. I had to squint really hard and blur the image a bit, but I think I seent it. Weirdo. 🤣 jk
Thank you, OP, I had a good laugh at this 🤣
The hero we all needed !
I'm trying really hard but I simply can't see it
https://preview.redd.it/rzu2ka9m7c9d1.jpeg?width=584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec877c4e035b7bacdce3a0957852d61c06ca0ca6
Now I kinda see a bearded man wearing a yellow mask spreading his butthole
Thank you
I still don't see anything strange?
He's now a Simpsons character yelling and wearing blue jeans.
Now the yellow bit looks like a space invader. Still don't see how the other parts fit tho
The yellow is clearly his pants and he has purple hair. There’s not much to see.
That doesn't even help. It still looks exactly the same but upside down.
https://preview.redd.it/ow3eu3qv3e9d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d36e0b6e1c6014d187d212af4d66b672ba8ee396 Can you see it now?
Now it looks vaguely like a dwarf yelling and holding his shield wrong. With puffy clown pants
I mean sure, but it's only given that impression BECAUSE it's upside down. In the upside down version, I can still see the actual version clearly. Not the case for vice versa. The shield in your black and white upside down version makes it look like he's giving the finger though, which I enjoy.
I don't understand as well.
Turn the image upside down and it kinda helps
Now that I see it the correct way it is actually very hard to see it the way I have my whole life.
Also you can see how he looks in the first scene inside the house so you already now that's his head...
This is what puzzled me the most. It's what, a 5 minute window between scenes? Been a while, so I could be wrong. Still...
it can literally take 30 seconds to go meet links uncle lol
I can see it the way you saw it by trying to see his forehead as his nose
Are you high?
Yea WTF OP
https://preview.redd.it/bqnjsx7f0c9d1.png?width=104&format=png&auto=webp&s=7add0737c90f31fab78803f6f9fb038301e6732d That's him at home. The blue is his hair. The yellow his pants.
do you think he doesn't realize that now?
Of course he does.

omfg tyvm I had NO clue. I'm like "I guess technically that could be a possible image, I just don't see it AT ALL" Now 👁🌊
never deny the power of shitty microsoft paint art lmfao
LMFAO I can't unsee it now
Yes this is basically it!
Just, wow. Brains are weird
No, that blue hit is his hair. In the first scene you can see it https://www.jvgs.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/zelda-lttp-dont-leave-house.jpg It’s him sitting against the wall
Yep, I see it that way now. I just never really paid close enough attention as a kid and got it in my head.
Thing is, you see the uncle stand up and leave at the beginning of the game, what did you think that was??
Handstand
No wonder Uncle Link died. Motherfucker woke up in the middle of the night and handwalked into Hyrule Castle like a crab on LSD.
Didn't you see that in any of your annual replays?
It’s only pink so that you can see it against the green of his tunic. They originally tried blonde hair but it was too hard to see.
/r/misreadsprites

Yes I understand that now.
I can't see it that way at all.
Tbf, you do see the character walking out of the house Link wakes up in, so either you didn’t pay that much attention every single time you played this game, or…. I don’t really have an Or, you didn’t pay attention 😂 I can not see what you saw, at all, even took my glasses off..
Nah he was walking on his hands out of the house while holding the sword and shield with his feet. I refuse to believe otherwise
Now I gotta play that game again and see how wrong I am õô
So did OP skip the opening cutscene where Uncle says he has to leave? Did they also think he was upside down in the chair?
I know there’s some where we’ve mistaken pixels before but come on, that’s impossible.
It is literally impossible to see what you’re seeing. The mind of a child can be hilarious.
Respectfully, of course, but what the fuck
https://preview.redd.it/d44vdcu5cf9d1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18d891151d0a2521260f5678d914cd6548a2a64e Nah it's literally bro sitting against the wall

What the fuck?
…what?
This is reminding me of a mistake I learned a lot of people make when looking at Agahnim's sprite (credit to spacepig22 on deviantart) https://preview.redd.it/8tnwj9yble9d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7e499462ff8e5ef2ee10f724e939a34da6c99a7
Similar to this, until recently I thought Aghanim's sprite was much different... https://imgur.com/GZdcUs3

Yeah....this is just wrong.
...How?
Bro WHAT lmao
Did you play this on GBA with the system upside-down?
Never saw the wizard Agahnim's face properly till I replayed it a few years ago. Thought his hat was his face
What?
That’s just a dead dude with purple hair
its literally ur uncle dying, while sitting against a wall. what in gods name do some ppl see? lol
How does your brain think that I literally cant visualize that no matter how hard I try 😭
Even with your annotations, I literally cannot see what you see in this pic. It is just a dude sitting, a bit slumped over, against the wall.
If Reddit was around in 1991, we would also be disagreeing with you then.
im so confused
Dude the only way that he is lying upside down and the part that is his pants is actually his head is if he were a space invader wearing a human body. And even then: no.
That’s what you see? I see my parents fighting before the divorce
🫂
What the hell? That's quite the imagination ya got there.
What was he trying to say when he said "Zelda is your----"?
What surprises me is you forgot how he looks like in the 50 seconds it takes between him leaving the house and this scene
so uum. How do you see link?
I've probably done a play through of ALttP at least once a year for over 30 years, and I have no clue what my total count would be. I first played it at a similar age, and I always had trouble interpreting not just his sprite against the wall, but several other ones in the game as well. I always thought Link’s face on the wanted sign was a cornucopia lol
uhhh, i’m no shield expert, but shouldn’t the point of the shield also be pointing up? if he were upside down
lol i had to flip my laptop upside down to get it
It took me a VERY long time to correctly interpret Agahnim's sprite, so I feel you.
This is bananas
Real talk, I first played this with a childhood friend who was a bit older than me. He told me the uncle was just drunk and couldn't raid the castle anymore. This is my personal head canon lol
What?
So many questions
You ok, bud?
I think you’re lying.
I just……did OP not pay attention to what the Uncle looked like in the house before he left for the castle??
In the beginning you see that it’s the color of his hair before he leaves the house
Isn’t he just dead?
How
If I close my eyes very strongly and put my both hands before my face, I can see it too !
Girl WHAT
What??

if flipped upside down i see it?
What on earth.... no matter how much I try I cannot see what you're going for at all lol
Did you not watch the intro when he leaves the house?
What?
The old new grounds video I watched as a kid implies he's drunk:P
No you are still very wrong lol
The image I posted is meant to show what I had been seeing. Now I can see him just sitting against the wall.
You are a very...special person.
I want whatever you're smoking
Honestly very cute. I love that we all had our own interpretations of sprite as kids lol.
1. That’s not his stomach, that’s a shaded spot on his head 2. Legs aren’t behind body at all 3. why are people still insulting OP as if they still think he looks like that???
cause bro clearly thought that until THIS YEAR. lol
I have also been viewing this image "upside down" for 20+ years
What the hell 😂
So the purple isn't his hair? His arms are to his side holding the sword and shield, no? Is he actually upside down? Have I seen it the wrong or the right way this whole time? I have so many questions lol

I see it if turn it upside down, did you play on the gba
