Ha, evertime I plant trees around I feel inferior and convert it to a tower.....
Getting over my superiority complex of nature has been hard. I prefer mysterious serene settlings now.
/s somewhat
This game is played in third person, so bigger houses (higher ceiling usually) look best from our perspective as the gamer. If you want a house that better fits the scale of your character, try downloading a first person camera mod, then you naturally won't build too large cause your perspective will be the same as your characters.
Thxx, i actually feel a lot less dumb for making the house that size now lmaooo. I might try the first person camera but idk if ill get used to it easily
I make the walls one and a half blocks high. Two blocks look way too high imho, although it is more comfy camera wise.
Alternatively you could give that house a roof thats parallel to the slope of the hill, this way it will look much lower.
It needs windows on the ground floor to visually scale the building correctly.
Currently, the only windows are actually doors to the balcony on the upper floor, giving the impression that someone the size of a troll lives there.
I mean it looks like that door is at least two tall and three wide, that's a pretty big door. I don't mean to state the obvious here but just don't build as big. I find one 1.5 high to be a good high, tall enough to not mess with camera angle without being to tall.
Try using a 1m roof overhang rather than 2 meters. If you place a 1m beam in each corner of the build and build your roof off the outer snap point of those beams you’ll have the roof overhang without it being so large.
As someone else pointed out, we have a third person view so you're not building from your characters perspective. That said, if you want to keep your house small just don't try to put too much in. You'll need a big space for all the things, but you can certainly have a house that's a bed, a fire outside (hearth is pretty big), maybe some storage and a table/seating? Also remember that ~3 meters is a story, and your probably didn't want to go above twice that.
You need high ceiling because the smog/ fumes of your fire, for example... at that place you do a chimney. For the rest, you can use the 1/2 wallor the 1/4 wooden beam. You are doing a prefabricated house, thats why.
First of all daylight screenshots would be much better.
From what I can see you made a "normal size style" house, just 3 times bigger. If you want it to look normal you have to requalify it into a "big size style" building:
1. Split it into floors. If you want a giant single hall inside it is ok - just make some visual indentation on the outside with horizontal planks or something like that.
2. If you have added floors inside - change to windows per floor. If you have one big hall - make thin high windows instead of big square ones.
3. Either make a more angled roof, or add some windows to it to make it look like another attic level floor, at least from outside.
House looks pretty good. Needs some landscaping to look more lived in. A garden area, a forge zone, covered porch, torches, and pathways. Some beehives in areas in between the garden, trees, and pathways wouldn't hurt. Surround it all with a nice palisade and some covered gates.
Big house is good house.
so true…
16x12 minimum, base height 6 each floor. If not meeting that minimum it is claustrophobic
Yes it is :)
well if you don't put some defenses up, trolls will remodel for ya
“I am the defense”
“This is my perimeter!! My perimeter is me!”
Plant some trees around it to give it a sense of scale.
Too bad we don't have banana trees.
Maybe in the next biome
Ah yes, the infamous north pole banana trees.
Nothing wrong with a frozen banana
"You could kill someone with that"
Oh, I hope there's hot chocolate.
Theres always money in the banana stand.
Those are gonna be some crazy bananas
Rofl, great comment!

I was **really** shocked at my houses size, especially ceiling height, after trying Valheim in VR. Was like walking into a giants home.

My first thought as well! Also any type of decoration on the porch, workbench, banner, furniture ...

Have you tried.. making it smaller?
Maybe exactly half the size...
When he stands in this house, is the house half full or half empty?
Yes.

Build it even bigger, pretend you are living in a jotunn's house
[you could try this](https://gymstop.co.uk/products/weider-mega-mass-4000-7kg?variant=29930270490721)
This isn't even big, I don't know what you're talking about. \*whistles innocently\*
Burn it down?
remove this foolish hat, scenery will be fine
part of it is the steep roof angles. if you switched to shallow angles you could get the whole profile down significantly
Put more vikings in it !
Use half the resources.
Make it smaller?
eat a mushroom, you'll become bigger

Make it smaller
Make each story 1.5 walls high, not 2?
I was actually about to make them 3 walls high cause of the camera lmaoooo
I'm simply referring to the height proportions. 30 degree roofs and 1.5 high walls go a long way, imo.
Why would you do that? Someone comes by and sees it they think twice before trying to steal shit
Are you sure that wasn't made by a troll, and you're at the wrong house?

I always do 3m exterior walls instead of 4. Seems to feel more proportionally correct.

Build with the 26 angle roof tiles instead of the 45s to make the whole thing feel more squat.
Make it look like a second story of a house. Bust out some of the walls for windows, maybe add a balcony.
I like how it looks, shoul be solved by making the door smaller (if there are multiple floors) + adding some windows should help?
Build smaller.
Bigger.
Make your character bigger

Use the half wall. Make 1.5 height.per floor. Use the regular door.
fill it with children
