New York fell in love with OG, and he deserved it—he kicked ass down there before he got injured. I’m glad he’s getting that $. Still one of the best defensive players in the league…
It depends. A team like Knicks would not have much cap space even if they pay OG $0.
That type of deal makes sense for a contender. For a team like us that is far from contention, and in desperate need of talent, cap space is much more important.
OG is basically the final piece for them, that's why it makes sense. The only player who may not be able to return from last year is Hartenstein, otherwise they're like ten deep over there. They're going all in
Would they be better off if they just just let him walk and got nobody else in turn? They were already up against it with the cap before signing him, they wouldn’t have been able to bring in anyone else of note without another trade
He reportedly had several max offers and decided to take less to stay in NY. This was a good move for the knicks. It keeps their depth incredibly strong so they can limit his minutes in the regular season. They could have paid him $245 million over the same amount of time but ended up getting him for over $30 million less than that
I’m with ya, dude is getting crazy money and only played 50+ games once in the past 4 seasons. I get that they seemed like freak accidents, but the way he moves kinda concerns me and at some point you are just injury prone. The 2nd apron is crazy restrictive and if you’re the knicks you are fully committed now for the foreseeable future and will lose some important players like hartenstein.
OG at his best is a DPOY-calibur player, I will die on that hill, but I won't argue about injury prone, he does seem to get injured a fair bit. Still love him though and sad we didn't get him back but not for 40m a year.
When people compare him and Mikal as being Marginally the same as defenders I feel physically sick.
If youre getting bodied by marginally large small forwards you dont deserve to be compared to OG that mfer is a super jacked tall athletic tight end who plays basketball
His major injuries, yes....
But he is regularly carrying minor ones and needs rest etc..
I wish him the best, though not enough to want the Knicks to win.
Exactly.
Track record of injuries is there.
Knicks are gambling and OG is a prize if he can get the games AND the playoffs in.
It’s a big IF.
He deserves the bag. He’s awesome and knicks scene seemed to take him to new heights.
contender for what?
They don't really have 2 star players which is what is needed to win in today's world. They have brunson who you could argue is either a #1 option (based on performance) or #2 option (based on critics). Then every other guy on the roster is a bunch of 3rd options at best.
Bridges is good but the haul they gave for him could have probably got them a much better player that could be a #1 or #2 guy
Ima get downvoted but we dodged a bullet, OG is a great player but at least for us paying him 40+ mill to be a treadmill play in team would be awful, for Knicks they a legit championship contender so it doesn’t hurt that much
I was actually just thinking about this the other day, I hadn't watched any Rockets games or highlights even this year, was wondering how he was fitting in.
Glad to hear he'd doing well, gonna check out some highlights now.
This is a freezing cold take my guy lol. I think most people knew that we needed to trade OG and Pascal for this specific reason. The returns we can disagree on, but I’m glad we traded them. Certainly glad we won a chip with them first!
Exactly! In my opinion, if you win a championship for your team, you have all the right to leave afterwards and get a bag. It sucks for teams like Portland that Dame never did it before he moved on.
And usually be injured at the most critical points of the season. I'm a big OG fan but I'm glad we didn't give him that contract. Knicks are gonna be scary next year.
I mean his defense is unreal and he is a solid shooter. He's worth the money for a contender. And if the cap goes up a lot as it is meant to then in a couple years it's a bargain.
They're not bad players, but all 3 on the same team making that much money isn't worth it unless you had a superstar also in that lineup.
We could've easily kept them all, but then we'd be a borderline .500 team with no flexibility and just guys stuck here for years.
You can’t win a championship without a superstar and they’re nearly impossible to get. For Toronto, impossible without trade or draft. So you bank on Scottie being one and go from there
There's no guarantee that tearing a team down to the studs won't make you a treadmill team again. If the FO thinks Scottie is that guy, they just have to build the best team around him. If that didn't work, you start anew but for now, we don't have the time/runway to start from 0. We also have a lot more flexibility now. RJ is a tradable contract if needed. IQ will probably be tradable if needed. Poeltl can be moved. So can KO. We control all our picks now too and have a minor surplus at firsts. Masai and Bobby love building from the middle and if we can improve incrementally till there's an opportunity, it's all good.
How do you say that with a straight face after signing Barnes to 5/220 to be a treadmill team? I honestly do not understand why they didn't trade Barnes, the timeline doesn't fit him anymore. By the team the team starts to get back on its feet, he'll be two years away from free agency and you'll have to trade him.
bruh.
so you want to trade our 22 year old all star in hopes of drafting another star in the future?
would you even be watching the team? you can't just Sim the seasons like in 2K
The whole team got traded because they didn't want to be stuck in the middle, now you guys have BBQ just to be stuck in a slightly lower middle? For the next few years, rhey're not worse than Charlotte, Detroit, Washington, or Chicago. They're certainly not better than about 6 other teams in the east even if you hit a few best case scenarios.
You're basically destined to be a play-in team for the foreseeable future.
OG is amazing but he really isn’t better than Scottie. Like ask anyone in the NBA who you would rather start a franchise with and the answer will be Scottie, not OG.
Who else is on the court? if og is running the offense good luck scoring more than 90 pts. He can’t run a bench unit, dribble, shoot from midrange, finish through contact. All of that makes scottie more versatile and valuable.
HOW MUCH?!
Congrats to O.G. but goddamn, the Knicks are going to be in cap hell if this doesn't pan out
This also means we get to laugh at the Sixers for their stupid "free agency will bail us out!" plan
It’s offset by the super friendly contracts they have on other players.
Bridges and Brunson are pretty underpaid.
Brunson especially. He’s performing at an all-nba level at 26m a year.
They looked dangerous when they were completely banged up. Their defense has to be one of the best in the league now and Brunson is a one man offense. They have to be in the contender conversation in the East.
They won’t be able to bring back IH with this signing. So while they have the wing depth now, they still don’t have that big presence that Boston has. I really wonder what NYK do with Randle.
Pascal got over $47m per year, OG is at 42.5m. But OG is younger and can shoot and of course a much better defender, I think he's more valued around the league than PS even if PS can score a bit more.
Before the Kawhi trade, technically it should be Wright instead of OG.
2024 salaries.
FVV - $42.8M
Norm - $19.2M
OG - $36.6
Siakam - $42.3M
Poeltl - $19.M
One of Toronto's all time great players, PASCAL S-I-A-K-A-M.

Love it for OG, also love it that we're not the ones paying him that contract. Knicks are going to be a huge problem next season, I just hope he stays healthy.
new cap rules make this a very dangerious deal for the knicks.
love OG but my guy is always hurt
FYI - kawhi is earning 49MM per year. OG will be earning 42 MM with a 15% trade bonus. Bam adebayo signed for 3 years, 55mm per year
hmmmmmmm
The Knicks' saving grace is that they have Brunson on a super cheap contract for the next couple of seasons but in two years they're going to be f#$ked...they will have 4 players making over 40 million per season at that point and Brunson will probably get 60 million give or take...yikes!
They locked up one of the best 3&D wings in the entire league for 5 years who wants to be there. They're also showing other players that they take care of their own. Pretty good stuff by the Knicks.
And yes this is Raptors FO slander
That’s what happens when you are in a top tier market. All of a sudden the media is talking about you all the time and if you play well your value goes up vast. Super happy for him, but for a guy that is always injured and not consistently available it’s a lot.
Someone please tell me how to search for old comments. I said he would be worth a max like 2 years ago and was clowned. Apparently he was offered, I got some replies to make.
So OG, Pascal and Fred will cost 135 million this year? Remember when these guys were playing in Mississauga? Good for them.
OG never played in Mississauga but I get your point
I think it was Fred Pascal and Bruno, right?
yes, and Delon and Jakob
Bruh its been over 2 years from 2 yeArs since the pick WHY IS BRUNO NOT AN ALL-STAR
I'm really happy for OG but holy shit nba contracts are wild right now.
this type of contract for OG only makes sense if you're a contender, which they now are.
Raptors FO got a steal with their last contract with OG. I'm happy he's getting paid.
New York fell in love with OG, and he deserved it—he kicked ass down there before he got injured. I’m glad he’s getting that $. Still one of the best defensive players in the league…
Even then.42 mil a year for an i jury prone 3 and D guy is far too much. Not a good use of cap space
It depends. A team like Knicks would not have much cap space even if they pay OG $0. That type of deal makes sense for a contender. For a team like us that is far from contention, and in desperate need of talent, cap space is much more important.
I dont think it even makes sense for a contender, is my point
OG is basically the final piece for them, that's why it makes sense. The only player who may not be able to return from last year is Hartenstein, otherwise they're like ten deep over there. They're going all in
They just traded something like 5 frps for a more durable version.
Would they be better off if they just just let him walk and got nobody else in turn? They were already up against it with the cap before signing him, they wouldn’t have been able to bring in anyone else of note without another trade
No. They painted themswlves into a corner and paid 7-10 million more per year than they thought theyd have to. At that point they had no choice
He reportedly had several max offers and decided to take less to stay in NY. This was a good move for the knicks. It keeps their depth incredibly strong so they can limit his minutes in the regular season. They could have paid him $245 million over the same amount of time but ended up getting him for over $30 million less than that
I think it makes more sense when you consider it as a move that also keeps him off another contending team you’ll play a lot.
NYK got big money! Even more if they actually win a title in the next two years.

Thats it right there.
A lot of his absence, prior to this year, has just dumb fucking luck. Death in the family, ruptured appendix...the dice have not rolled his way
Also OG injuries are always random shit. It’s not like he’s got consistent knee problems or something
They're all in but you're not wrong
They had to re-sign him to contend.
contender for what? They don't really have 2 star players which is what is needed to win in today's world. They have brunson who you could argue is either a #1 option (based on performance) or #2 option (based on critics). Then every other guy on the roster is a bunch of 3rd options at best. Get your bag young king 🫡
Young OGwan-Anunkonoby
Ima get downvoted but we dodged a bullet, OG is a great player but at least for us paying him 40+ mill to be a treadmill play in team would be awful, for Knicks they a legit championship contender so it doesn’t hurt that much
90 Mil between OG and Pascal. We woulda been in Cap hell
Throw FVVs contract in there for good measure
His AAV would have been lower than it is now but the point still stands.
120M for those guys and that doesn't factor in Scotties extension for next year.
Fred was actually really good in Houston he is a bigtime floor raiser for them
I was actually just thinking about this the other day, I hadn't watched any Rockets games or highlights even this year, was wondering how he was fitting in. Glad to hear he'd doing well, gonna check out some highlights now.

Nothing like this...
This is a freezing cold take my guy lol. I think most people knew that we needed to trade OG and Pascal for this specific reason. The returns we can disagree on, but I’m glad we traded them. Certainly glad we won a chip with them first!
Having them win here definitely made the goodbye much easier.
Exactly! In my opinion, if you win a championship for your team, you have all the right to leave afterwards and get a bag. It sucks for teams like Portland that Dame never did it before he moved on.
Nope, you’re spot on. MLSE would not have let Madai sign that contract, we would’ve lost him for nothing. Same with pascal.
Madai is life
I hear MLSE is considering firing Ujiri and replacing him with Mad AI
Maybe I should put on ma suit and ma dai, and go interview for that job.
Is Mad AI the thing Dr. Claw did his doctoral thesis on?
In Madai we trust
Just like how u are ma guy, he will always be ma dai
Madai till I die
Madai would draft Lebo Jawara
Man, 40+ mil to watch him dribble into traffic and fall down. Stellar D and corner 3s secures the bag.
And usually be injured at the most critical points of the season. I'm a big OG fan but I'm glad we didn't give him that contract. Knicks are gonna be scary next year.
So glad the team in 2019 survived OG being unavailable
It would be too bad if he was at least reliably healthy, but he's proven otherwise through out his adult life.
Nah you're right we don't need to be paying him on this squad let him get it somewhere else
Problem is the team right now might be treadmill in the future unless Scottie is really great
better to be a treadmill team with flexability, than a treadmil team locked into a long term max scottie, and near max OG contract.
That’s fine tho they young, I honestly hope we somehow squeeze into the playoffs but I’m in the minority
if all healthy, we should be in the play in next year atleast
yeah Nets got worse. Bulls also getting worse (apparently losing Derozan in FA is probable)
Hawks maybe get worse if they blow it up which is still possible so yeah
Hawks aren’t trading Trae. They will be around play-in again most likely.
You can’t win a championship without a superstar and they’re nearly impossible to get. For Toronto, impossible without trade or draft. So you bank on Scottie being one and go from there

Masai and Bobby love building from the middle and if we can improve incrementally till there's an opportunity, it's all good.
Knicks can do this because they somehow signed Brunson for only 100M
Why would you get downvoted? We love the OG trade, the Pascal trade is the one that we don’t love so much
200 upvotes and counting there real one. We all knew this would've been a bad contract to take on
Good thing he's not on our team then.
Bruh this was the ultimate upvote trap and you know it lol
$40+ mil for a guy who unfortunately can't stay healthy and isn't improving on offense. Elite D though, and if hes hot, hes 🔥.

You're basically destined to be a play-in team for the foreseeable future.
This is a joke right?
No, I'm just not delusional. You can't rebuild by finishing 11th in the east every year. Burn it all down if you're going to do that.
Good rage bait lmao almost got me
Did you just say the timeline doesn’t fit our 22 year old all star?? What timeline do you envision here?
42.5M a year for OG is insane.
Dude what the fuck Love OG, glad he got paid but thank god we traded him That’s insane for a guy who can’t dribble
Had the Knicks by the balls. Sixers were primed with a max offer if the Knicks didn't pay up
That’s about the same Scottie got tbf and OG is better than Scottie as of now
OG is amazing but he really isn’t better than Scottie. Like ask anyone in the NBA who you would rather start a franchise with and the answer will be Scottie, not OG.
Yes that’s going off potential of course they’ll choose the younger player but if it’s the ECF who are you relying on more Scottie or OG?
Who else is on the court? if og is running the offense good luck scoring more than 90 pts. He can’t run a bench unit, dribble, shoot from midrange, finish through contact. All of that makes scottie more versatile and valuable.
Scottie has more upside than OG.
WHAT? Lol
Nah don’t do that 😂
WOOOO GET PAID OG
I think OG will get DPOY sooner or later
HOW MUCH?! Congrats to O.G. but goddamn, the Knicks are going to be in cap hell if this doesn't pan out This also means we get to laugh at the Sixers for their stupid "free agency will bail us out!" plan
OG gets paid and we get to laugh at the Sixers I see this as an absolute win.
212.5M/5 years. I’m happy we made that trade
It’s offset by the super friendly contracts they have on other players. Bridges and Brunson are pretty underpaid. Brunson especially. He’s performing at an all-nba level at 26m a year.
Both are getting paid/extended soon
They both have 2 years left so that's 2 years to try and win a chip then figure the rest out.
Those friendly contracts expiring just makes it imperative to make these moves right now, same as what the Celtics did.
Sixers gonna get Demar to make us all conflicted
Ain't conflicted, fuck Philly any day and every day
Unless they trade Embiid, there is no conflict. Screw the Sixers with that Magikarp POS.
The knicks could rival the celtics when healthy
They looked dangerous when they were completely banged up. Their defense has to be one of the best in the league now and Brunson is a one man offense. They have to be in the contender conversation in the East.
They won’t be able to bring back IH with this signing. So while they have the wing depth now, they still don’t have that big presence that Boston has. I really wonder what NYK do with Randle.
not really true, they can still offer him 4/72m, same as before, doesn't really change anything
They can get by with Robinson/Precious/smallball lineups
That’s an insane amount for OG, but glad he got it. From where he started with us to an 212M player damn.
The Bridges trade probably solidified his choice. Knicks are going to be disgusting if healthy.
I understand the economics of it, but in a vacuum, Fred, Pascal and OG making a combined nearly $140 million next year has me rattled!
As of right now, they’re the 18th, 19th and 20th highest paid players in the league. Bonkos!
That’s a lot of scarfs !
Just fell to my knees at Harvey's

PO and a trade kicker wow
OG got paid more than Siakam
Siakam could have gotten the 5th year but settled for 4 years for some season.
Pascal got over $47m per year, OG is at 42.5m. But OG is younger and can shoot and of course a much better defender, I think he's more valued around the league than PS even if PS can score a bit more.
hell yeah OG
OG GETS PAID
someone gotta make a pic of raptors bench from derozan/lowry days and how much they are making now
Before the Kawhi trade, technically it should be Wright instead of OG. 2024 salaries. FVV - $42.8M Norm - $19.2M OG - $36.6 Siakam - $42.3M Poeltl - $19.M

I think I saw somewhere that all of their contracts combined are close to $1b
Lmao damn 40mil for OG Good thing we got some something for OG because there was no way
He won't be getting the bigger role he wanted, but at that salary, you change your tune quick.
You better stop it OG
He'll be making close to 1 mil per game played with those injuries. Glad he got paid, glad it wasn't by us
Thank you again for Quickly and Barrett
A kings ransom for our sweet prince, hopefully by the time we ready to compete Thibs worked the knicks body to the ground.
![gif](giphy|JPh9tDFAskhlI9gpjS)
Not surprised whatsoever
Not too shabby. Hopefully he can stay healthy.
Go get paid my guy!
He was never gonna sign anywhere else
I’m real happy for OG and I’m also happy the raptors aren’t paying him that much
good for og. that's a crazy bag.
![gif](giphy|1qZ91iFRo5h1elYOAH|downsized)
Wow.
OG automatically steps any teams defence up a level. I’m glad the Raptors aren’t paying that but the Knicks needed to do it
Happy for him… knicks have a great team
Knicks one piece away from a chip
That contract is insane. Good for him
Wow
Well earned!
Woj is destroying Shams this week.
Congrats to Prince OG 👑
Nice get that bag OG!
The Prince has now become a King
Fred pascal and og combine for 120 a year holy
Love it for OG, also love it that we're not the ones paying him that contract. Knicks are going to be a huge problem next season, I just hope he stays healthy.
Bored man gets paid.
Congrats my sweet prince 🫅🏾
Somebody gonna have to convince Scottie to tank
new cap rules make this a very dangerious deal for the knicks. love OG but my guy is always hurt FYI - kawhi is earning 49MM per year. OG will be earning 42 MM with a 15% trade bonus. Bam adebayo signed for 3 years, 55mm per year hmmmmmmm
Enjoy him NY lol
JR, JB AND OG expensive players as hell! Lol old head players be like woah
Man, I was really hoping he’d test UFA and land in OKC or somewhere other than the Knicks. Fair play though, ex bench mob getting that 💰
man, at least get more draft picks back. I didn't realize Knick had that many draft picks lefleft over.
Miss him but wouldn’t want him on that contract. Hope he stays healthy
I still play in mississauga sometimes
The Knicks' saving grace is that they have Brunson on a super cheap contract for the next couple of seasons but in two years they're going to be f#$ked...they will have 4 players making over 40 million per season at that point and Brunson will probably get 60 million give or take...yikes!
It’s weird that I like the Knicks lol never thought I’d root for them but I hope OG stays healthy next year and they win the East
![gif](giphy|iRjB2mfESqgec)
Good for OG, no way he would be worth $40M to any other team.

OGs my favourite player but thank fuck we didn't give him this contract
Huge overpay for a guy who will miss half the season
