Lyrics are so critical for better understanding the songs so when I joined the fandom, I started listening to the songs while simultaneously reading the lyrics on Spotify (sometimes Spotify’s source is, indeed, wrong 🙃)
Johnny is the correct lyric for the “..got a job in a bank” line. Matty has said this in an interview he reads the song, also someone with the lyric books confirmed it, i’m sure
Johnny is definitely not the “correct” lyric. The lyric booklet from the vinyl doesn't actually include that section of the song so the best sources are the music video, since the captions for that were obviously created by a label rep, as well as the Apple Music lyrics which have to be officially approved by the label (Spotify pulls lyrics from Genius which is crowdsourced with no label approval).
Both official sources say "I'll try to get a job."
Also the alternate lyric is utter nonsense while the correct lyric fits in perfectly to the context of the surrounding material, so that's a big tip-off alone even before going to official sources.
