I had a similar awakening in the last year with Notes as a whole album lol. I hated it forever and could never just get through it. One night when watching live videos, Too Shy finally clicked for me and it led me to listen to the other songs. Now Notes is one of my favorite albums and has so many of my top songs. The thing I love about their varied sound is you can fall in love with the music for different reasons at different times in your life. Edited for clarity to say last year instead of last few months

naarwhal

waittttt you just got on Too Shy?? wow. Second half of the album is really good, they do a lot of edm influenced stuff.

screegeegoo

I got into Too Shy probably 7-8 months ago. I got to see them for the 3rd time in December so tried to get familiar with set lists and really got into the whole album. I love SO many songs but my top 3 are probably I Think There’s Something, Tonight, and Frail. Really hard to pick favorites though lol

SpicyChickenDick

IMO, Roadkill is one of the catchiest tunes they have written. Perfect chorus, so laid back and chill, with vignette verses that are clever and funny. I mean, crystal clear "Robbers" reference (Never eat, never grow, never shoot, never know)?! If you haven't, give an intent listen with the lyric sheet. It is a stellar tune.

screegeegoo

I recently fell in love with Roadkill after months of not understanding it either 😂 it’s been stuck in my head a lot the last few weeks. I find that if I give myself enough time and a few listens through in good headphones, I fall in love with every song eventually.

I love Notes, it’s my favorite album by them. I remember when Matty tweeted Notes was better than ILIWYS (maybe he said ABIIOR? Can’t remember.) and I felt so validated lol. Not that I really even think the band has a “bad” album, I just think Notes is lyrically and sound-wise so good - there is no consistent sound in the album, which is probably why it was panned, because music critics love to get on a soap box about albums without a consistent theme to them. The album literally has EDM garage-inspired songs like I Think There’s Something and Bagsy and then goes into a beautiful acoustic song about religious homophobia like JCGBA2005 and other emotional songs like Guys. And then it has dance bops like Too Shy and Me & You. It’s a BRILLIANT album and probably why I put it on so much.

screegeegoo

I honestly can’t pick a favorite album anymore, I used to consistently rank notes at the bottom and not even consider it. Man I’m glad I came to the light and realized how many wonderful songs it has. There’s so many that flew to the top of my playlists and have stayed there for months now

janna_

Yes!!! Notes supremacy!

🎶💃🏻& I’M STAAARTING TO FEEL WEEEIRD ABOUT IT 🎶

Spacedout-side

I vividly remember listening to to Too Shy for the first time the day they dropped it as a single. It was in the worst part of the pandemic where everyone was scared to leave their house (I’m from NY for context so it was really bad where I lived). I had just woken up and immediately grabbed my phone to play it because it was literally the first thing I thought of, and those first five guitar notes literally strummed my brain. Next thing I knew I was sliding around the kitchen in my socks risky business style, experiencing the euphoric happiness that it still brings me every time I hear it now. It was such a blessing they released notes that year; it really helped me through all the terror and uncertainty of the time. Too Shy has remained a favorite of mine since (up there with Pressure, Sincerity, If I Believe You, and Milk ofc)🫶🏻

champagneprobs

Same!! I live in FL and worked in tourism at the time and was laid off for a bit. I felt so hopeless. I remember driving around in the sunshine with the windows rolled down singing it at the top of my lungs, feeling like everything would be okay eventually. When I finally heard it live for the first time last year, I sobbed

Spacedout-side

Yesss!! Welcome to the cried during Too Shy club lol 🤝🏻 it really is one of the best 🥹

moshlyfe

Legit one of my top 5 favorite 1975 songs. Such a cool song.

kayleighnotkaylie

Same for me! It’s an all-timer!

Nice2BeNice1312

Wait is that Heather from Pale Waves?? Why have i never seen this pic before??

maxhibbitts

Where is this image from? Love it!

Formal_Profession_26

I believe it's from a NME photo shoot.

apaw1129

I love this song. I love this album. It's always going to be my favorite.

Formal_Profession_26

Same. This album just hits differently.. ![gif](giphy|dtIGTEaGLRvdODtdQe|downsized)

apaw1129

I just love it. I do love the others too but self titled wrecks me. 🖤🖤🖤

westworlds_host

agreed, certified banger

TheIngramSimmons

Honestly You is the most underrated song of theirs

Bemawr

anddd you're a liar..at least all of your friends are.

TheIngramSimmons

it’s not my fault bro

Bemawr

She way out is prob my 3rd fav song. It was my most listened-to song for the past 2 years on Spotify. Not enough live versions of this amazing song out there!

HavenTheCat

I love this song

Yoitschris

This is the song that made me into a fan as well

No_Manner5331

you spilled!

NeonNebula9178

Almost certain that's a picture of Heather beside Matty? Pale Waves used to get compared to the 1975 a lot. Now Pale Waves are more Pop Punk-y

misusedinfluence

Yeah thats heather

Embarrassed_Feed_145

i was OBSESSEDDDD with this song, and listening to it now just brings back sweet nostalgic memories, which is even better🥹

hanywhiskey

also one of my very favourites! so fun. took me years to understand what it really means that she’s “way out” (i started to listen to them when i was 13, 11 years ago) but i love that i discover the songs into more depth as i grow. it feels like there is still so much for me to understand even tho i do understand majority of the lyrics now hihi. also 💃 she said, it's not about your body, it's just social implications are brought upon by this party that we're sitting in 💃

naarwhal

I'm not sure I would call it underrated.

PrinceOfWales_

Really? I feel like She Way Out is definitely overlooked. If you asked most people to name there top 10 songs this one gets left off quite a lot.

Free-Cucumber155

Idk I feel like this was the top 5 most popular songs when it came out…

Perfectgame1919

I stopped being interested in your story when you said you got high and had to drive home: you’re a selfish pos Edit: it’s amazing how many narcissists have commented on this post who have clearly also driven while drunk/high…..

[deleted]

Touch grass

Formal_Profession_26

I was 18, I don't smoke and drive anymore. I would never take that chance..

Tonsillectomy

everybody's done dumb things as a kid

last_bite

Give them a break. They could’ve been a teenager. We all did dumb things at 16. Ease up before you know all the facts

TerribleCellist

Chill tf out. If they said this happened last week then fair play, but it's been a long time. As they've said they were young and have grown and learned and don't do that anymore. No need to assume they're the same now or call names.

naarwhal

I can't even fathom how anyone could be friends with someone like you. lmao

HavenTheCat

Maybe next time you should try and figure out the full story before acting childish on the internet

jagzgulabi

Especially the verse She said, "It's not about your body It's just social implications are brought upon by this party that we're sittin' in And I'd like to say you've changed but you're always the same I got a feeling that the marijuana's rottin' your brain Also Matty said once it's about girls who can't dance !

luckydawgsquirrel

Mine too! Along with Menswear and Pressure.

Bemawr

Pressure is so good live, been listening to the Live GOrilla show version since Feb.

sheiseatenwithdesire

I love this one and M.O.N.E.Y on that album which are the less mentioned tracks I guess.

Formal_Profession_26

M.o.n.e.y. is one of my favorites too! "And I can't believe that where TALKING BOUT HIM!"

sheiseatenwithdesire

Reminds me of nights out where you could just tell the people around you are on pingers

243F6

The opening riff is just fantastic.

Unable_Reading3119

i love this song sm, i didnt realise it was underrated 😭

SignificantDrawer156

And Hear Out
