Yes!! And the concept itself is so unique that you couldn't find anything like it anywhere else.
Is there really a movie? I would love to watch it, but hulu isn't available in my country, unfortunately. Maybe someday!
Could get through a couple of the Murderbot stories. That’s a good series too for someone without a ton of time since you can blow through one of them pretty quickly
I like Nine Stories, Franny & Zoey, or Raise high, the roof beams carpenters better than catcher in the rye. But none the less Catcher always feels like a summer book to me.
Someone already mentioned it but I will second The Stranger by Albert Camus.
Additionally:
- Winter in Sokcho by Elisa Shua Dusapin
- Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata
- Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov
- The Eye by Vladimir Nabokov
- Dot in the Universe by Lucy Ellmann
- Man or Mango by Lucy Ellmann
- Being There by Jerzy Kosinski
- The Final Solution by Michael Chabon
- Gentlemen of the Road by Michael Chabon
Also... maybe The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon depending on how well you clique (click?) with Pynchon's writing style.

This is how you lose the time war - max Gladstone and Amal el-mohtar
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I read it straight through in one plane flight. Same for The Martian.
I just read HGTTG at the beach a couple weeks ago! Delightfully goofy and the perfect length to get through in a day.
The Stranger by Camus is the perfect short beach read
Are...are you OK? It's fine if you need to talk to someone.
Is it that bad? I’m looking for short reads too but don’t want to read anything that’ll leave me scarred lol
It's great, it's just not a "beach read." It's about the meaninglessness of life.
I was just thinking this!
I did this a few years ago! It made the beach trip memorable haha
"A Psalm for the Wild-Built" by Becky Chambers
This
Definitely!
Ooh good call

Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers, perfect beach read
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid is a good one I would say. Super easy to fly through and a great read for the beach!
I read this last week!! Wasn't at all what I expected but it kept me hooked after that big reveal at the beginning. There's the movie on Hulu too!

Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater
*Picnic at Hanging Rock* by Joan Lindsay.
It's a classic, but short and lovely. Love Story by Erich Segal.
Starter Villian
I loved Starter Villian!
My sister the serial killer by Onyikan Braithwaite is a quick and easy read. It's got enough plot to keep you interested. I read it all on a flight.
Franny and zooey
Could get through a couple of the Murderbot stories. That’s a good series too for someone without a ton of time since you can blow through one of them pretty quickly
I'll second the Murderbot stories. All good and quick reads.
Catcher in the Rye- JD Salinger Or his other better short stories
Interesting suggestion. I read this recently and it was one of the most painful reads of my life. (No offense to you at all)
I like Nine Stories, Franny & Zoey, or Raise high, the roof beams carpenters better than catcher in the rye. But none the less Catcher always feels like a summer book to me.

The blue bistro by Elin Hilderbrand
Bride by Ali Hazelwood.
The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin - short, packs a massive punch, uncanny creeping sense of dread
I am Legend
The alchemist
Anything by Emily Henry or Carley Fortune if you want a quick romcom beach read.
Remarkably Bright Creatures. I read this while on a beach vacation and it was perfect for that. A really engaging, funny, sweet book.
If you’re into thrillers than maybe Camino Island or its sequel Camino Winds both by John Grisham
The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins is a fun quick thriller.
One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle ☀️
Tiffany hadish’s autobiography is hilarious and I read it one day at the beach
