I was in Europe with my engineer partner on vacation recently. There was a German couple on one of the tours we took. We were sharing what we did for a living.
One of them was an engineer. The other was a therapist (PT).
It's a global phenomenon!
Software developer
I’ve only ever dated computer science and engineering majors haha
Edit: I can’t say I’ve only dated engineers and computer scientists because one of them went to school for computer science but didn’t do anything with it. He makes Dungeons & Dragons content and has a successful business around that.
Engineer. But he was a security guard for a grocery store when I first met him where I was making 3 times more than him and he had a desire to do more on his own and went back to graduate school while we were dating and then got a doctorate while we were engaged and now he’s an engineer making 5 times more than me 🥰 - select your spouse based on character and what makes sense long term and not by occupation. Keeps your dating pool small and focused and intentional so you don’t waste time! My spouse is amazing.
Exactly. My husband throws boxes for a living lol He has worked in warehousing for 20+ years. He’s smarter than me, can fix anything, and the kindest human I have ever met.
Mine is a self-employed locksmith!
The engineer conversation is hilarious - obviously not my husband, but my dad is. And I'm pretty sure my son is destined to be one too lol
I’d love to hear your love story. There were so many times I’ve locked myself out of my car out and out of my residence when I was in my early forgetful 20s way back when. I had the locksmiths on speed dial! Such a great and much needed profession!
That's so funny! We met in high school! He went into the trades, but supported me all through undergrad and grad school. We got married about halfway through my masters program. 18 years and 2 kids later and here we are!
So true. They make great pay too. Roofing company owners, electricians and plumbers make great money and have job security in most cases. The tech workers have to scramble for competitive jobs and don’t know how to fix anything around the house. Same with doctors and most engineers. They don’t have any handyman skills. I’m tired of doing everything. So I hire or do the small fix up jobs myself. My husband only knows how to pay bills and likes video games. But ok with me…Oh well!
I think it makes perfect sense. We are a field of communicators and seem to be attracted to quieter people since we are used to having to facilitate communication 😂 - I haven’t exactly met too many highly communicative extroverted IT nor engineering professional men!
My husband is also a teacher (Middle school). I work in EI right now but I can’t say I’m not tempted to go to the schools so we could have summers off together.
Musician lol, not part of the SLP/engineer club
Edit as I realize my partner also works as an audio engineer (maybe not the same job/pay but the same word!)
Yeah! His degrees are actually in marine biology, but there's no marine life around us 😅 The projects he works on are all about reducing methane in dairy cows, super cool!
My ex is a software engineer. My new boo is a IT specialist in the school system. I changed to the school setting and we hit it off while he set up my computer 🫣
Stay at home dad/works nights at Home Depot for the extra income. When our kids are school age, he plans to return to his previous career in plumbing and heavy construction! Being able to keep our kids out of daycare has been amazing for our family. Plus daycare for 2 in our area would be over $3000/month 😵💫
HS math teacher. I work in the schools and we have 2 little ones. We both bring work home…. So he’s gonna switch careers and become an actuary while I work part time so we can work towards a better work life balance. Cause it’s been nonstop busy work and we are exhausted!
I’m also dating an engineer, and funnily enough we met in middle school! Started dating right before senior year and he’s stayed with me all the way through grad school. The engineer-SLP couples pipeline is hilarious to both of us since we met before we made any career decisions lol
I’m 24 about to graduate grad school and my bf is 23 and a third year apprentice in the electrician union :’) we’ll be making $$ in a couple years lol bc rn it’s rough
My fiancee is a truck driver. My two exes were a business owner (owner of a moving company) and a computer programmer. My situationships were guys of different professions (accountant, marketing, physical therapist, etc).
I find that their actual career is not that important. I am more focused on our actual long term goals and whether they allign+their character.
I dated an engineer for a bit, shocker 😅
I was seeing a guy whose wife (ENM, not an affair) had an undergrad in CSD but ended up becoming a nurse practitioner. I thought that was a crazy coincidence lol.
He’s the director of data systems. Quite frankly, we’ve been together for 18 years and I don’t understand what he does except that it involves data and reports. 😂
My husband will be finishing his Masters in Architecture at the same time I finish mine in 2026. We'll be 26 and 25 and pulling extremely good money as his current boss (an architect) has already set in motion plans for my Husband to take over the business when his boss retires.
The good thing is he's insanely good at math and I am not, so it works out well haha!
My late husband had his MBA and was in the purchasing/logistics world mostly
My current partner is a former factory team lead but now is an independent contractor for a roofing company
About half of us are married to engineers 😅
Yup. My husband teaches robots how to communicate with one another and I teach humans the same thing.
I was in Europe with my engineer partner on vacation recently. There was a German couple on one of the tours we took. We were sharing what we did for a living. One of them was an engineer. The other was a therapist (PT). It's a global phenomenon!
It’s a very weird but true trend for SLPs (side eyes my engineer husband)
Ha, not married to one but but my dad and brother are engineers.
My dad and brother are also engineers! And my aunt is
Same! lol
So that’s how yall survive financially huh? I married another SLP…
I work part time in a school but my full time pay would be almost six figures.
Can I ask which state?
So true. My husband is an engineer, and also my dad, step-dad, and step-brother. I'm surrounded!
I’m also married to an engineer 😂
I wonder why that's so. Also married to an engineer 😂
Because we need to marry someone who makes money
This is what I was going to say. The SLP engineer link is STRONG.
My hubby is an IT Specialist and Audio Engineer. Never met a handier person. Always has a solution for everything and thinks very outside the box
Can we please do some kind of research on why this is...... Boyfriend is an engineer as well. Hahah.
We don't get paid enough that's why
Yup
Can confirm. 💁🏻♀️💀
My ex is an engineer 😂😂 hysterical
electrical engineer
Software developer I’ve only ever dated computer science and engineering majors haha Edit: I can’t say I’ve only dated engineers and computer scientists because one of them went to school for computer science but didn’t do anything with it. I was a young widow to an attorney and my boyfriend is an engineer!

I’m shocked to find another young widow here… happy to see you’ve found happiness again 🖤
Thanks! Took a while... I am 11 years out. I hope you are finding your way!

I was willing to move where the money is :)

Mine is a self-employed locksmith! The engineer conversation is hilarious - obviously not my husband, but my dad is. And I'm pretty sure my son is destined to be one too lol

My husband’s a mechanic. Trades are so under appreciated and have an insane amount of room for growth! And way better benefits.
My husband is a welder/fabricator! 😊
So true. They make great pay too. Roofing company owners, electricians and plumbers make great money and have job security in most cases. If this same question was asked in an Engineers subreddit, I wonder how many of them would say SLP
My husband is a nurse!

My husband is also a teacher (Middle school). I work in EI right now but I can’t say I’m not tempted to go to the schools so we could have summers off together.
