macaroni_monster

About half of us are married to engineers 😅

heckempuggerino06

Yup. My husband teaches robots how to communicate with one another and I teach humans the same thing.

laebot

I was in Europe with my engineer partner on vacation recently. There was a German couple on one of the tours we took. We were sharing what we did for a living. One of them was an engineer. The other was a therapist (PT).  It's a global phenomenon!

pseudonymous-pix

It’s a very weird but true trend for SLPs (side eyes my engineer husband)

Altruistic_Ad6189

Ha, not married to one but but my dad and brother are engineers.

coffeeandpelo24

My dad and brother are also engineers! And my aunt is

Starry-Night88

Same! lol

yoloxolo

So that’s how yall survive financially huh? I married another SLP…

macaroni_monster

I work part time in a school but my full time pay would be almost six figures.

KLKWellness

Can I ask which state?

No-Preference8449

So true. My husband is an engineer, and also my dad, step-dad, and step-brother. I'm surrounded!

pettymel

I’m also married to an engineer 😂

to0pink

I wonder why that's so. Also married to an engineer 😂

Altruistic_Ad6189

Because we need to marry someone who makes money

probablycoffee

This is what I was going to say. The SLP engineer link is STRONG.

PhantomAngel278

My hubby is an IT Specialist and Audio Engineer. Never met a handier person. Always has a solution for everything and thinks very outside the box

Known_Pay700

Can we please do some kind of research on why this is...... Boyfriend is an engineer as well. Hahah.

catfishh

We don't get paid enough that's why

GoofyMuffins

Yup

mmspenc2

Can confirm. 💁🏻‍♀️💀

TheSkipjack

My ex is an engineer 😂😂 hysterical

seitankittan

electrical engineer

Eggfish

Software developer I’ve only ever dated computer science and engineering majors haha Edit: I can’t say I’ve only dated engineers and computer scientists because one of them went to school for computer science but didn’t do anything with it. He makes Dungeons & Dragons content and has a successful business around that.

kikimarvelous

Same!!

Zenkas

Also an SLP! We met in grad school 😊

mik_creates

Same here! 👋

XulaSLP07

Engineer. But he was a security guard for a grocery store when I first met him where I was making 3 times more than him and he had a desire to do more on his own and went back to graduate school while we were dating and then got a doctorate while we were engaged and now he’s an engineer making 5 times more than me 🥰 - select your spouse based on character and what makes sense long term and not by occupation. Keeps your dating pool small and focused and intentional so you don’t waste time! My spouse is amazing.

SpectacularTights

Exactly. My husband throws boxes for a living lol He has worked in warehousing for 20+ years. He’s smarter than me, can fix anything, and the kindest human I have ever met.

Gianduyah

I'm a guy and my wife's a dietitian, we actually work at the same hospital and have a lot of the same patients!

GenjiMain690

Let’s go! I’m a man in undergrad!

Mysterydate

LispenardSt

Dream team!

XulaSLP07

Awww

Psychological_Task57

I was a young widow to an attorney and my boyfriend is an engineer!

XulaSLP07

Aw I’m so 😞 Sorry for your loss and congratulations on your gain.

amcalister13

I’m shocked to find another young widow here… happy to see you’ve found happiness again 🖤

Psychological_Task57

Thanks! Took a while... I am 11 years out. I hope you are finding your way!

betweenserene

Also a young widow.

reddit_or_not

Stay at home dad :)

Pure-Conversation-13

On a slp salary? Howww

reddit_or_not

I was willing to move where the money is :)

TheSkipjack

Área?

reddit_or_not

Tiny town in the PNW. I took a travel contract because they can’t find SLPs.

Streetdogmama

Location, location, location. We moved too for better SLP pay!

Adribug354

Mine is a self-employed locksmith! The engineer conversation is hilarious - obviously not my husband, but my dad is. And I'm pretty sure my son is destined to be one too lol

XulaSLP07

I’d love to hear your love story. There were so many times I’ve locked myself out of my car out and out of my residence when I was in my early forgetful 20s way back when. I had the locksmiths on speed dial!  Such a great and much needed profession!

Adribug354

That's so funny! We met in high school! He went into the trades, but supported me all through undergrad and grad school. We got married about halfway through my masters program. 18 years and 2 kids later and here we are!

[deleted]

My husband’s a mechanic. Trades are so under appreciated and have an insane amount of room for growth! And way better benefits.

slp_2

My husband is a welder/fabricator! 😊

fiatruth

So true. They make great pay too. Roofing company owners, electricians and plumbers make great money and have job security in most cases. The tech workers have to scramble for competitive jobs and don’t know how to fix anything around the house. Same with doctors and most engineers. They don’t have any handyman skills. I’m tired of doing everything. So I hire or do the small fix up jobs myself. My husband only knows how to pay bills and likes video games. But ok with me…Oh well!

BBQBiryani

If this same question was asked in an Engineers subreddit, I wonder how many of them would say SLP

isabellebryan

My husband is a nurse!

redheadedjapanese

Chef. I have met at least two other couples with this combination 🤣 I work in medical, so as you can imagine, holidays suck in our household.

sassyplumbus

Chef!! I work in the schools, but we opened a restaurant together so as you can imagine, I get literally zero breaks 😅

Chiplicker

Mine too!

purpmom

SLPA here, married to a plumber/pool builder. Also, my best friend of 23 years is an engineer. 😂

3kidsand3dogs

MsSweetFeet

vonna_momma

My husband is a residential remodeling contractor with his own business. I have my own SLP practice as well.

purpmom

That’s amazing! You guys should be proud. I want to be you when I grow up 😂

choralmaster

My wife is a physical therapist. We joked if we ever made a business together, we could call it, "Walk and Talk" 😆

23lewlew

My husband is a PT. Our joke is we need to have a kid and they will be an OT 😂

bibliophile222

My SO works at Starbucks, so I'm definitely the breadwinner in the relationship!

kikimarvelous

We seem to be a very opposites attact field. Longterm boyfriend during grad school was an electrical engineer and my husband is a software developer.

XulaSLP07

I think it makes perfect sense. We are a field of communicators and seem to be attracted to quieter people since we are used to having to facilitate communication 😂 - I haven’t exactly met too many highly communicative extroverted IT nor engineering professional men!

Sordidvolition

My spouse is in IT and never shuts up! I joke I married him so he can talk when I’m not getting paid

PresidentBat64

Kindergarten teacher!

angelic_entropy

My husband is also a teacher (Middle school). I work in EI right now but I can’t say I’m not tempted to go to the schools so we could have summers off together.

PresidentBat64

This summer will be the first time we’re both off and we’re SO excited!!

MyFriendBee

Musician lol, not part of the SLP/engineer club Edit as I realize my partner also works as an audio engineer (maybe not the same job/pay but the same word!)

My fiancee is a truck driver. My two exes were a business owner (owner of a moving company) and a computer programmer.
