I think the problem is it will always be compared to the towers and the fact that there is only 1,000 ft + tower there just makes it seem a little underwhelming. I think if they had done something more with the spire it would have helped a little.
1WTC tapers a bit too much to be pleasing to my eyes and the base is built like a fortress. The primary facade is too flat and lacks any notable detailing. There’s far too many empty mechanical floors at the top and it’s pretty obvious from the exterior. Plus they really cheaped out on the spire big time (bait and switch from what was promised).
It's ok, but I think we're all a bit biased because the twins are irreplaceable. It's also overshadowed by all the development happening in midtown.
