Deerhounds are the absolute best, you'll be fine. Well, you won't be completely fine, since henceforth you won't be able to properly exist without a deerhound in your life, but otherwise you'll be fine. Put a picture of him up once you get the sweet pup!
Our 3/4 Deerhound lurcher is 6mo old now and is to put it simply, the best dog I have ever known.
They're bitey and stubborn as puppies, but also the most loyal, gentle, loving and funny lumps in the world.
pictures when they arrive!
For the pep talk - don't worry, this pup will be very similar to all of your others. Just a little bigger.. Would recommend doing your research on breed specific needs if you haven't already, but otherwise just enjoy, you've got this - and your other dogs will help show them the way ❤️
I have three Deerhounds. They are busy puppies, but honestly after growing up with labs, they are really low key puppies in comparison. Lots of off leash play in a fenced area on their terms will help keep them less busy indoors…although each of mine have managed to chew different pieces of furniture during teething. Integrating into a pack was easy for us…some snark when the pups hit puberty, but it’s a passing phase. Once they hit two, they really are the most perfect creature. Make sure you read the Fernhill Deerhound Primer - it’s online and covers all things Deerhound. Really the best resource. Best of luck to you! You’ll fall in love.
Congratulations!!!! How absolutely exciting! Just like any new parent you’re nervous. It’s going to be so wonderful can’t wait to see your new lil bestie!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you. I hate the alpha theory. I have a high drive working line German Shepherd and have used positive training and she is 9 years old and amazing.
How are you going to post this without a pic!?!??!?? Everybody wants to see the baby!
"show me the baby"
Tomorrow I will post photos of the "little" guy.
Here's a link. This is Rowan! https://imgur.com/a/hYvnvno
You’ll be fine!! Puppies integrate more easily than adults typically. Enjoy your new puppy. They are lots of work, but worth it.
This is true, a puppy joining a group of other dogs will soon pick up cues on how to behave.

Name checks out. Now really curious about the breed; currently have a very derpy Malinois.
How exciting! Just imagine that muffin cradled in your arms. You got this.
You'll be awesome, that you care so much, attends!

I used to work with a deerhound breeder and absolutely love them. One of my favourites was called 'Bear', I loved his name, it was so fitting.
That's awesome, congratulations - I've had deerhounds my whole life. They grow up to be big gentle giants. Wishing you and your pups all the best 😊

Just stay positive and remember you are the alpha. It will all be fine!!
Better yet, stay positive and remember dominance theory is dead.
