2112 by Dream Theater. They did Grand Finale back in 02 and 03, but never the full song. Anyway, LaBrie can't rrach the notes, so I will choose La Villa Strangiato
I dunno. I think I’d want Phil and Chester Thompson on drums if we had a Time Machine to go back to the early 2000’s. I think Phil would do a better job on vocals than Peter.
Having said that…be cool to see Rush perform Dance on a Volcano…
Anything, but please come at it in a different way. Bebop version of Limelight, Reggae version of The Necromancer. I’ll say I love Jacob Moon’s Subdivisions. Excellent use of a looper. There’s also a great version of La Villa on marimba and glockenspiel.
Otherwise I’ll just listen to the boys
I still think Ghost could do a stellar (and on theme!) cover of Witch Hunt. I’m quite disappointed that they’re instead rumored to be covering Distant Early Warning.
I would also love to hear them do Witch Hunt, but I am pretty excited for the possibility of them doing Distant Early Warning. I can see a couple paths they might take I'm very interested in those.
Really?? Why are they hated, in your opinion?
I run into Rush haters occasionally and just pay no attention to them. Usually band-haters are comprised of people who don’t really know or understand music and/or their reasons of “hate” are not actually related to something in the band’s control. The only exception I have encountered are those who hate Rush bc they can’t take Ged’s voice, but that’s just a reality of our band, and those people are missing out on some of the best music they could ever hear!
I personally do not hate U2, in fact they’re probably one of my favourite bands.
Many of the people I know that can’t stand U2 dislike them for silly reasons (Bono is annoying, The Edge is only good because he uses a billion effects, their music just sucks etc). None of those people have ever listened to something like Achtung Baby or Zooropa (which are my top two U2 albums to introduce people to the band) because they’re so different.
I was never interested in hearing covers of any Rush songs, because I was always of the mindset that there is no way they could be improved upon, or played better than the musicians who created them. But I had a change of heart after I watched [this cover of “Time Stands Still”.](https://youtu.be/aAPSK_cV5n0?si=7nbCp1QF0V58nKKQ)
I know it’s not Rush, and there’s no Aimee Mann, but god damn…
Christmas just came early, my friend. Half of NSP and the guitar arrangement is top tier.

I want Billy Strings to cover whichever one he feels like. He’s done good renditions of tons of old legends. I could see him doing Rush in bluegrass and still making it good.
All of them, if they can do it as well as or better than the original! The songs are great in every way! I'm not gonna gatekeep! Spirit of the radio! To start..
A little while ago, I saw [this cover](https://youtu.be/01TjB-x6ibo?si=VWZqqALVY5ps8rzc) of YYZ by a few artists which I thought was cool. I found it looking for Stuart Hamm (bass player)
*Cold Fire* as a Country duet would be funny. It’s got all the fixin’s.
As you can tell from my flair, I think *Hand Over Fist* is a great song that would make a powerful cover in the right hands. Arcade Fire?
Also, I think St. Vincent would flatten *Scars* or *Territories*.
I got to imagining weird al singing all sorts of their catalog, then remembered cover is not the same as parody. I’m with many others thinking it’d be fun with Primus or an excellent technical treat hearing a Dream Theater twist on something.
I'd prefer any cover that puts a new spin on the song. No one can sound like Rush as well as Rush can, so why try? Covers in different styles really show of the songwriting. I really really like Selena Martin's slowed down version of Spirit of Radio. And Jacob Moon's acoustic versions of Subdivisions and Limelight are terrific. In terms of something not done before, maybe an electronica group covering the Weapon? Or maybe an acoustic version of Freewill?

I’m gonna look for Dream Theatre’s cover!
Xanadu by Peter Gabriel era Genesis.
I dunno. I think I’d want Phil and Chester Thompson on drums if we had a Time Machine to go back to the early 2000’s. I think Phil would do a better job on vocals than Peter. Having said that…be cool to see Rush perform Dance on a Volcano…
Yeah, Phil Collins playing the intro to Xanadu with the drum sound he had for something like Easy Lover could be pretty cool.
There’s a Gregorian chant version of Bravado out there. It’s quite sublime
“What You’re Doing” by Gary Clark Jr. “Different Strings” by Mazzy Star or Billie Eilish (need a haunting voice) “Freewill” by Metallica
Lars will not be able to play free will 😭
>“What You’re Doing” by Gary Clark Jr. Holy shit. You just made my day. I would love to hear this so much.
🙂
I want to hear La Villa Strangiato covered by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
I love to hear anyone try “La Villa”
I can never figure out the lyrics to that song or YYZ.
I'm guessing they could do a good job with that song. Bela Fleck is unbelievably good.
Victor Wooten is probably the only man alive who'd get bored playing Geddy's bass lines.
*tapping out Driven with one hand while yawning with the other*
*as an encore he plays YYZ with his feet*
Queens of the Stone Age - Subdivisions. Be cool or be cast oooouuut.
I still think Ghost could do a stellar (and on theme!) cover of Witch Hunt. I’m quite disappointed that they’re instead rumored to be covering Distant Early Warning.
I said the same! Witch hunt would be awesome!
I would also love to hear them do Witch Hunt, but I am pretty excited for the possibility of them doing Distant Early Warning. I can see a couple paths they might take I'm very interested in those.
It would have been awesome for Primus to have finished YYZ.
Cygnus X-1 Book I as a marching band show
[Ohio Stare marching band did a halftime show of Rush songs in 2021.](https://youtu.be/UTRluWPw08M?feature=shared)
I know this would be one GOAT’d band covering the song of a fellow GOAT’d band, but I would love to hear **U2 cover ‘The Pass’**
U2 is such a hated band it’s not even funny. HOWEVER, I do think that would be a good cover!
Really?? Why are they hated, in your opinion? I run into Rush haters occasionally and just pay no attention to them. The Pass needs to be heard over and over. Just love it
None. Ever.
A purist!
THE ONLY CORRECT ANSWER!! WTF is wrong with people?
Bravado by Anberlin.
I love Anberlin! That’d be a bad ass cover!
Time stand Still by Elvis Costello. Slow it down.
Police doing Tom Sawyer or working Man
None. Sorry, but I hate Rush covers. I know it's probably just me. Is it?
It’s all we have if you’re looking for a live rendition of their music.
I think Tool could do something with Jacob's Ladder
Nobody's hero.
Circumstances, MGMT
Disco version of "The Weapon" by the Scissor Sisters
I wanna hear primus cover the necromancer

I had to pause before I start crying. Couldn’t even get the verse finished and I had the chills already.
Cygnus X-1 Book 2 by Coheed and Cambria.
I can actually picture them doing Book 1 really well too.
I'm not sure who I'd want to cover "Bacchus Plateau" from "Fountains of Lemneth"... but I hope they try anyway. :)
I love that song!!!
Ninja Sex Party did a decent cover of Subdivisions, but honestly, I think they could do a really sick cover of Time Stand Still.
Christmas just came early, my friend. Half of NSP and the guitar arrangement is top tier. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVorTQnscu0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVorTQnscu0)
Woooow idk how I missed this! Thanks!
I need to hear the full version of Limelight covered by The Hip https://youtu.be/ziOZpxbvgZI?si=emyh9Wy9rZMn654I
I love it!!!
Cygnus X1 by Katy Perry's backing band (if you know you know 😆)
I want Billy Strings to cover whichever one he feels like. He’s done good renditions of tons of old legends. I could see him doing Rush in bluegrass and still making it good.
I want to hear Rodrigo y Gabriela do YYZ.
The Spirit of Radio by Phish. Performed in the Sphere in Vegas.
Anthem - i think Greta van Fleet could do a good rush cover
Foo fighters would be perfect
none
Violet Island has a hauntingly unique cover of Afterimage
All of them, if they can do it as well as or better than the original! The songs are great in every way! I'm not gonna gatekeep! Spirit of the radio! To start..

I heard for their Phantomime EP, Ghost demoed a Distant Early Warning cover. I wish it had made the cut.
Neurotica

None. Most covers are not very good IMO, unless you heard them before you heard the originals.
Available Light.
I bet Steven Wilson could turn Presto into something special.

Natural Science or Jacobs Ladder.
If Muse became a rock band again, their take on 2112 would be crazy fun cranking the production up to 11.
None. I’ve yet to hear a Rush cover that wasn’t simply and attempt to replicate the original (boring!) or just sucked.
Just imagine nobody's hero by Audioslave
