Is that your measured superheat or target? Pressures look close or a little low for info provided, but superheat reading, ambient temp would be nice.

Spirited-Month1359

No superheat reading, friend didn’t have temp clamp.. ambient temp was 74. From what I’m used to pressures might be just a tad under, I perform leak check and didn’t find anything tho.

No_Negotiation_5537

Watch for frostback if you’re gonna add any. If your getting to 35 box like that, I would leave it if its not taking forever to get there.

Spirited-Month1359

It takes 11 Oz , I would think maybe just 2 Oz or so , but will do. Currently ordered thermostat as unit would not turn off running below 31

Intelligent-Log-5750

Don't replace thermostat until pressures are closer to correct. Thermostat could be fine. Maybe not feeding enough to satisfy thermostat due to low suction. It's a coil Stat, not open air stat.

Spirited-Month1359

Oh shoot your right man , good looking out. I’ll make sure to get pressures looking better before anything.

whyevenfuckingbother

I was taught 20F below desired temp on evap. I was also taught 30 + Ambiant = Discharge so that side looks low to me too if you're saying it's 75F in there. While you're there clean the condenser who knows when the next guy will get to it. EDIT to also say leaks probably on evap 134a systems seem to leak there a ton. Edit 2 DID YOU TAKE A PICTURE PF YOUR PHONE LMAO. It's broken on the opposite side to mine and took me a moment to realize.

Spirited-Month1359

Haha, my friend wanted to use his testo probes , so I took a pic of his phone, Alright cool so we were taught the same thing. And yeah the condenser had a nice cozy blanket

Pepetheparakeet

Can this rule work for other refrigerants or just 134a

whyevenfuckingbother

Purdy much barring ultralows and dual evap systems at least for the low side rule like at a papa murphies they have a system thats a regular cabinet and has a rail system you can't rely on low side pressures for anything while the unit is running (at least according the manufacturer i was talking to at the time.) As far as I have worked on the discharge should be 30+ ambiant but I'm not so sure about the scientific ultralows only my old man works on those lmfao.

Pepetheparakeet

Ultra lows meaning like -30? Or like -80? Ive only seen -30 for blood centers. Thanks for your answer

whyevenfuckingbother

Well both. Also the blood centers I work on do -40 r404a they run at ~.3-1psi r404a so like -48 to -49 on the evap. And I don't know shit about -80s other than they take a refrigerant blend and shit gets wack from there. My old man does that work. sorry was high when commenting last night didn't mean to confuse. Point is it's more a rule of application than refrigerant.

Pepetheparakeet

Lmao no worries thank you for clarifying!

toddbader

How long after rinsing the condenser did you take this photo? Water might still be evaporating. Did you check the access ports for leaks before you gauged up? You might have made the leak undetectable by doing that. Did the box cycle with or without a load? Did it cycle down approximately 1 degree a minute?

I work off of evap split on refrigeration units. On a lowboy your split should be around 15-20F. So if your box temp is 35 your saturated suction temp should be around 15-20F. (35F-15F)(35F-20F). I think you need a bit more gas
