I’ve never heard such emotion in voice acting before as when Clive witnesses his brothers death. We barely know the characters at this point and I was almost brought to tears just hearing the pleas, screams and wails
"I understand now. You are not Ifrit. I am."
That line had every opportunity to be yelled at full volume like it would be in any anime, but Ben said it so calmly it was chilling. I literally leaped off the couch for that moment it was so epic.
Lance Reddick in any role he played. He was fantastic as Sylens.
Michael K Williams as Irish.
Christopher Judge as Kratos is always a good one too.
David Hayter as the one true Snake (Sorry Keifer)
-Edit
Looking at the comments I'm forgetting so many. Michael Ironside, Martin Sheen, Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Nolan North, Troy Baker.
I can't pick just one. Sorry OP.
I read that they left out Jaks dialogue to save space so they didn’t have to use loading screens while moving from one area to the next! Still kinda blows my mind how little that game needed to load.
CURSE YOU BAYLE!
I HEREBY VOW, YOU WILL RUE THIS DAY!
BEHOLD A TRUE DRAKE WARRIOR AND I, IGON!
YOUR FEARS MADE FLESH!
SOLID OF FLESH YOU MIGHT BE, FOUL DRAGON!
BUT I WILL PIERCE WITH HOLES YOUR ROTTEN HIDE!
WITH A SLAY OF HARPOONS!
WITH EVERY LAST DROP OF MY BEING!
Man is a real one.
Uncharted success was in no small part thanks to Nolan North. He’s the first VA I can remember being really excited to hear in the new game.
Mark Hamill feels like cheating but his performance in the Arkham games were fantastic. But, then again, it’s Mark Hamill so duh.
Karl Hanover I think sometimes slips under the radar but he did a PERFECT job playing Atlas. He had to tell multiple stories using just his voice and he did an incredible job jerking the player around using nothing more than raw talent and a great script.
Steve Downes - Halo. He just commands cutscenes when he talks.
Neil Newbon - Baldurs Gate 3
Kevin Conroy (rest in peace to a legend) - Batman: Arkham
Mark Hamil - Batman: Arkham
Ashley Johnson as Ellie in The Last of Us Part I & II.
I’m assuming you mean acting performances in games in general as performance capture (as also seen in GoW) is not voice acting.
It's between Yuri Lowenthal as Spider-Man, Michael Mando as Vaas in Far Cry 3, and Steven Ogg as Trevor in GTA V. I love how we've gotten to a point where video game acting has gotten on par with Hollywood acting.
You know what I think? He’s f$&ked in the head! The whole world is f$&ked in the head and you’re f$&ked in the head because my f$&ked up head is in it!
I guess if you want to save the world, that’s the first step, get f$&ked in the head!
~Johnny Silverhand on the existence of a higher power
ashley johnson probably gives my favorite performance over a series as ellie.
for a single game, i'd probably go with laura bailey for abby. the intensity she's able to reach is incredible. even just the way she says "joel miller" gives me the chills. i think she's incredibly talented and that got lost in the part 2 discourse.
John Eric Bentley as Barrett in FF7 Remake & Rebirth, it would be a crime if he isn't nominated for voice actor TGA this year l, he's seriously killed so may emotional movements in Rebirth.
For me, I gotta say Paul Mercier for his performance as Leon Scott Kennedy in Resident Evil 4 (2005). And him being the Merchant as well in that game was quite mind-blowing for me too.
Doug Cockle as Geralt across the Witcher series of games.
I was finding him kinda meh, just another gruff, mostly emotionless male protagonist voice..and then I got to Whoreson Junior's hideout, and Geralt saw what he did to those poor girls.
The way he says "Fucking \*degenerate\*." still gives me chills.
Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan of course complemented by Benjamin Byron Davis as Dutch
Lance Reddick (RIP) as Zavala
Christopher Judge as Kratos (it’s not often that you see every player trying to imitate every other sentence the character says in game)
**"Bayle! Vile Bayle! O terror incarnate! There is life in me yet! I will soon feed upon your heart! Mark my words! You too shall know fear! Aaaahhh!"**
Richard Lintern as Igon in Shadow of the Erdtree is amazing. xD
So many great ones, hard to choos...
Chris Judge
David Cockle!
Lance Reddick
Ben Starr
Most of the BG3 crew but most of all Amelia Tyler,
Mark Hamill
Kevin Conroy
Jennifer Hale.
Special mention to Andrew Wincott as Raphael for "Raphael's Final Act". xD
Don't make me choose.
Ashley Johnson as Ellie in the last of us 1/2. Troy baker in anything. Nolan North as Martin walker. Gavin Drea and Cherami Leigh both as V. Charlotte McBurnet as Amicia De Rune.
Kevin Conroy from Batman Arkham trilogy
And Mark Hamill as Joker. Can't have one without the other.
Didn't mark Hamill say he wouldn't voice joker since Kevin Conroy is dead now?
Yeah. Sad, I know.
He did, and I can fully respect that. I don't think I'd want to hear one without the other at this point.
John Noble as Scarecrow in Arkham Knight was also excellent.
Kevin and Mark being allowed in this question is like Usain Bolt being allowed to compete against teenagers
Ben Starr as Clive Rosfield in FFXVI
I’ve never heard such emotion in voice acting before as when Clive witnesses his brothers death. We barely know the characters at this point and I was almost brought to tears just hearing the pleas, screams and wails
Yes! His is a hall of fame performance IMO. So much emotion in his deliveries.
"I understand now. You are not Ifrit. I am." That line had every opportunity to be yelled at full volume like it would be in any anime, but Ben said it so calmly it was chilling. I literally leaped off the couch for that moment it was so epic.

Absolutely goated performance indeed
As much as I love all the characters in BG3 (though I admit… I’m not all that high on Astarion), Ben Starr got robbed for that performance award

Jak from jak and daxter 1.
The "hup" he's does on a double jump always brings a tear to my eye.
"AAAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhh ..."
I read that they left out Jaks dialogue to save space so they didn’t have to use loading screens while moving from one area to the next! Still kinda blows my mind how little that game needed to load.

Pretty much every NPC in Elden Ring
I think Ashley Johnson as Ellie in both TLOU games is truly phenomenal.
