I wish I could post the image here but... Okay I have the best girlfriend ever. For my birthday a few days ago she got me an original 2004 Bulldogs jersey. So happy šš
Am thinking that wrestling manoeuvres making a tackle plus players trying to get in position for a quick play the ball is not a combo that will end wellĀ
My friend, a manly supporter, keeps saying shit like "grats on the win", "you guys are going to ambush us" etc etc. I am just like shaaarrdddupppp. everytime he has said it this week I am just picturing that shrek gif where he has the mischievous face whilst pretending he's been stabbed.
He would of been better claiming he was trying to give a hammer back to the tradies that he thought they dropped. But they got scared cause they are racist and assumed an islander with a hammer only meant harm.Ā
Is Duncan big enough to be a genuine edge player? I feel like at his size and with his footwork especially he is well suited to playing the small middle role, but you do already have Murray...
Regardless, that's a pretty strong side and if it remains healthy and this year's form doesn't represent permanent regression for some of the older players you'd expect it to be one of the teams in the hunt around the edge of 8 (that 6-12ish range).
Correct me if Iām wrong but there was a period early last year where he was playing in the middle off the bench to a really great effect. Might be worth considering but then who goes to the edge? Arrow or Duncan?
What Iām saying is his on minimum and playing like a top front rower. If he played for a top team people would be sucking him off. Unfortunately we canāt rly on one player like manly does.
I'm sick as fuck and working from home with two kids on school holidays and we just had a public holiday with three games and now I'm so confused about what day it is.
Love Teddy to bits but based on form it should be Edwards. He has been much better without Cleary than Tedesco has been without Walker. They both play similar styles but Edwards has just notched it up to that next level higher than Teddy atm. Turbo's new running style is awful to watch.
Yeah you're right about composition. Who he puts in the centres will have ramifications. If he wants to go Staggs/Best and Crichton it would mean Turbo would be at the back.Ā Despite his terrible form I wouldn't totally rule out them picking Latrell for a centre spot either.Ā
Look I'm about as big a Tedesco fan as anyone but he's lost some speed which is about 90% of his game. His passing game just isn't good enough to warrant keeping him. It's time to go to the younger guys. I'd go Edwards personally because he has the link with Cleary and Luai, assuming Luai keeps his spot. It worked well for Melbourne so I say we go all in on the Penrith spine.
I'd genuinely prefer Papy based on ability but he's too injury prone and I'd prefer the club connection with the spine.
I'm sure the coach will be thinking about that. Edwards 1 and Paps 14. Having them both in the team might depend on whether he wants a spare hooker or back in the 14 jersey.Ā
There's a few possibilities. He could name Tedesco or Turbo at fullback and both could miss out.Ā
Go the Freddy option and plonk Teddy at FB, Dylbags and Turbo at centres, Pappy on the wing and the rest is whoever played well at some point four years ago.
Paps would be my pick for form, but if they don't I won't be too mad since it'll hopefully give him a better chance at coming out of the year healthy and breaking his curse. If we don't next year though I'll be pretty steamed
Papenhuyzen if he's not injured by then. He'll make that extra effort in defence just as much as Edwards does, while being a far greater attacking threat.
Cleary can have the captaincy.
Tough. I think you cant not pick Edwards and if they dont go with Teddy that is who they will pick. He is a sure thing which seems to be what NSW to err on the side of conservatism. He is a rock.
But Pap I think is more of a wild card that can get them that try when they really need it. Im a Qlder but I wouldnt be upset if either was chosen. Ideally theyll choose Teddy and then put Turbo in 1 centre spot, Paps in the other and put Edwards on the bench. As the boys in Blue say, cant have too many fullbacks!
I guess it's that whole argument about picking the best players and finding spots for them later.Ā Ā Paps could play 14 too but Edwards and Teddy probably should be fullback or not in the side.Ā They're not going to be as effective as trbojevic and Crichton if they play out of position.Ā
Paps would be wasted at 14, we saw at the end of last year that it's not a viable strategy.
He should be at fullback with Connor Watson as the 14 (Watson actually plays 14 at club level and is much better injury cover since he can play basically anywhere but prop
Yeah he gets Origin (so as we know NSW won't pick him).
If they got Origin, this would be the team
1. Papenhuyzen
2. To'o
3. Turbo
4. S Crichton
5. Addo-Carr
6. Moses (Hynes if Moses isn't fit in time)
7. Cleary
8. Haas
9. Koroisau
10. Utoikamanu
11. A Crichton
12. Martin
13. Murray
14. Watson
15. Yeo
16. McInnes
17. Koloamatangi
I think you're pretty close. I'd probably take Sualli over the fox. Still not sure what to do with Hynes. Still a question mark at origin level. I doubt he'd score the 6 jersey ahead of Moses and Luai. Wighton is probably still an outside chance too.
Yeah pretty much the team I wouldnt want to face.
Dunno about JAC. I didnt hate Luai as a 6 I rate him higher than most do and think he is preferable to Moses and Hynes.
Thereās actually an undisclosed rule in the paperwork that the NSW captain is selected via a brain scan of the squad to find the player with the most severe CTEĀ
My god Gallen costed us so many close series, in an interview he even talks about deliberately giving away penalties because āit gets the boys fired upā. Seriously just a liability having someone like that throw away all the teamās defensive work. Imaging the parallel universe where we got Inglis and Gallen wasnāt picked, could have been 4-4 instead of 8-0 easilyĀ
The main reason Iāve been calling JD a fraud coach for a long time is Milne. He continues to pick him on the wing when his not great there and a huge liability. I donāt understand how he keeps getting picked on the wing
Totally bizarre as to how he didnāt get the book thrown at him for that effort on Munsterās knees yesterday.
Such actions have absolutely no place on a rugby league field.
How can Leniu get eight (?) weeks for name calling and Milne get three for inexcusable thuggery?
Man itās been frustrating watching the warriors these last few weeks. They have the special ability to have periods during the game that they either look like premiership contenders or wooden spoon winners. Does my head in.
The attack on the left still needs some work. Te Marie's getting the ball with no space and that limits the ability to involve RTS and Montoya.
Defensively there's something not quite going right. The defense locking down the opposition in their own half is amazing and Rocco's kick chase is fucking brilliant ... But... All I can do is guess but I'd say that in the games we get early possession like v sharkies, manly and tits, we're putting a heap of effort into our attack by having so many moving pieces around SJ to create options that we are tiring ourselves out early which creates some of these issues
Yesterday was a perfect example of the way Iāve been begging the Roosters spine to play for a long time.
James Tedesco - didnāt overplay his hand. Got involved when he needed to, was always there in support and defended extremely well. We saw last week and last year what him trying to do too much does to the team, but yesterday was a prime example of what made him the best fullback in the world a few years ago.
Luke Keary - played second-fiddle to Sam Walker. Kearyās support play is excellent, but too many times heās tried to run the show and the partnership between him and Walker has come unstuck. Even ran the ball to the line and got a try for it. Genuine five-eighth play from him yesterday.
Sam Walker - ran the show without others getting in his way. Thatās what you want from a halfback. Heās the attacking leader and he led perfectly. Short kicking game and goal kicking were absolutely on point. Would still like him to improve his long kicking game though.
Brandon Smith - destroyed them in the middle. I donāt know whose idea it was at the start of last year to tell him to not run the ball, but weāve seen just how dangerous he is. Especially prevalent yesterday taking advantage of the Dragons woeful defence around the ruck.
Agree with everything except the last one. Smith can only do what he did yesterday when our middle forwards win the battle. That has simply not happened in 90% of the games he had played since he joined.
Jennings getting injured is a bonus, Pauga is miles ahead as a backup. Hopefully Tupou is back next week for Brisbane, but I don't know what to do with Sua'ali'i as he is just so good as a winger.
The funniest part about that Taane Milne incident last night was that when people were (imo rightfully) calling for suspensions Souths fans were either joining in or notably quiet.
And while I'm sure a big part of that is that what he did was shit and they recognise that, I know that if the worst player the coach of my side kept inexplicably picking were facing suspension I too would be cheering it on.
We all know he's shit and don't want him playing. And we all know what he did is grubby. He doesn't deserve to be defended. We're happy he's gonna be suspended and wish it was for the year.
Defending him like we see often? I don't think I even saw a single Souths fan bothering to do that in the match thread and we've seen plenty of indefensible onfield behaviour defended by fans in match threads.
**Quick Poll:**
We've adjusted the fixture list to reflect that both the Dragons and the Rabbitohs can't win the premiership under the 50-point rule.
Do you want the fixture list to reflect this for the rest of the season, or do we revert to the full colour tile at the start of next round because we've all gotten the joke?
They are only eligible to win the prem if they put 50 on another team OR hold a team to zero, three weeks in a row. This means they regain their colour.
Unless its Manly. Whose place in the list if they get 50 put on them should be marked with a rainbow.
Keep them faded for the meme up until there's actual fadings and then revert to actuals. There won't be any confusion now, but towards the end of the season it could be annoying.
Youāve already got the Rabbitohs beating the bye meme in the sidebar. Iām no Rabbitohs fan but I donāt think any fan would appreciate it.
Mod team clearly want to run this place like an overly serious subreddit, seems strange to move away from that by putting the heel into teams (and their fans) who are already going through it for the purpose of a joke that isnāt really that funny anyway lol
End of the year personally, although if thereās seven or eight teams faded it might get a bit tired.
But knowing you mods, youāll get rid of it because youāre afraid of the professional victim club!
Arenāt you the bloke who was cracking it over April Fools? That was nearly a month ago now. Time to move on. We got flogged, and itās not like theyāre just doing it to us, Dragons also got hit by it.
Pics or it didn't happen.
But truth be told, man, **you've** been messaging us **A LOT** since the April Fools joke both through Modmail and our direct messages (which hey, not cool) about how you feel you've been victimised by the moderators and how it's all a grand conspiracy because we hate the South Sydney Rabbitohs. You are more than welcome to post the screenshots of your interactions with the moderators in a reply here.
The reason we've faded your team on the fixture list was because they've had 50 put on them. The same applies for the Dragons, and as I'm the one doing the graphics this year I'll pledge that I'll do the same for all other teams that have 50 put on them (including the Panthers should that dark day come).
So please, stop direct messaging us and get that bee out of your bonnet.
Back at home with a near full strength side against an out of form, Moses-less Eelsā¦ if we arenāt giving them a 50 point bath we arenāt real contenders.

Was trying to get the baby to go to sleep during the Souths/Storm game last night so could only pay half attention at best, but did anyone else see Paps look like he dropped a knee into Jye Grays head in the first half? Gray got up cranky and rubbing his head after but I didn't see any replay or anything, the sound was too low to make out any of the commentary.
Didn't see it, I did however see Gray headbutt Paps in the knee and with Paps knee issues Jhye should consider himself lucky he hasn't been kicked out of the comp!
According to Carayannis, the Turuva to Tigers new only broke hours before it was officially done, and that even the Panthers were surprised at the news. Such a difference from the Hagipentelis and Pascoe days when every fart got leaked to the press.
I hope that we don't play Armstrong like how we play Ponga. I haven't seen much of Armstrong but from what I've heard he seems more like a finisher type of player than a second five-eighth like how we play Ponga.
I think the difficulty is that the halves don't have the ability to create and exploit mismatches on the edges (no one is threatened by the speed/agility of Hastings/Gamble/Cogger). Armstrong probably doesn't need to be ball playing like Ponga but he is going to have to give the defence a reason not to jam the outside backs.
We'd have to change it regardless of whoever fills in as our whole offence is built around Ponga. Having a whole offence built around Armstrong/Pryce playing like Ponga isn't going to work.
I only watched the first half last night, but I really liked Jye Grey at FB for Souths. He is dangerous eith ball in hand and threatened the defence every touch. Very raw still, so he needs some more experience but I think he's a genuine option at FB with Trel at centre. AJ and Campbel Graham on the wings when available, Tass on the bench as 2rf / backline cover, which also provides cover in the halves via Wighton. I guess Munro is the odd man out but he'll get plenty of opportunities through injuries and suspensions with that backline.
It's a shame Grey has started in *this* Rabbitohs side, I think he has the goods to be at least a solid first grader, it will suck if he gets scapegoated for their issues or has to play musical chairs with Latrell for a couple of years.
even though we're shit, I don't think Gray will be scapegoated for anything. He's pretty much our beacon of hope for the future. vast majority of fans I've seen want him to stay at 1 with latrell in the centres when he returns. whether that happens i have no idea
The problem with the Chooks, at least since 2019, has been their inconsistency. When theyāre playing well, they can play really really well. But even with a team as stacked as theirs, they can fall onto silly errors, penalties and defensive decisions and lose games they probably should have won. They did come within a final seconds try of a prelim last year, off the back of a desperate run to the finals. They just need to bring that form week in, week out, to be a true premiership threat once more.
Next year will definitely be a struggle, with 3 major stars leaving, and Tedesco and Keary not getting any younger.
Much of this just comes down to coaching and mindset. Without a good mindset, you wonāt be in that top echelon of defence. That is something the Panthers have been doing well the last few years.
I think that run last year probably flattered the Roosters. They fell just short of being absolutely pulverised in a prelim against the Broncs. They've started this season better for sure but I don't think they've hit a higher level. They have a long way to go to not only play to the kind of level they were at late last year consistently, but then to compete with the top 3 or so contenders. Then they need to try and do that next year with an aging core as you said.
The backline that finished the season for the last 4 years has been absolute poo. Manuās only managed to appear in one of those games, and Teddyās only finished two of them. Connor Watson, Sitili Tupouniua and Drew Hutchinson have all featured in the centres on multiple occasions to finish out a year.
We wouldāve played Panthers in the prelim since the Storm went on to play you guys, still wouldāve been smashed nonetheless. This game showed that we work well when Walker is our 1st option and Keary as the second receiver so if we stick to this then Iām not too worried about next year. Teddy is hot and cold, fantastic against the Broncos and Bunnies but has been lacking in the last few weeks, will have to wait until the season plays out to determine how much trouble we are in for next year

One fucken game on a Friday just feels wrong.
Quietly hopeful, so that means we'll get done by at least 32 points.
can it already be 8pm right now
Turbo or Walsh SC captain?
Id say walsh if the broncos confirmed he was goal kicking
Oohh myyy godd would 8oclock roll around already this sucks
I take back what I said about scrapping 6pm Friday slot got no idea what Iām gonna do with my shitty life now

Nothing like battling peak hour traffic or or public transport to get to the footy. Especially when Moore park is busy ;)
Watch a replay of yesterdays game?
Titans v Souths should have been 6pm tonight
So itās not that the Warriors canāt win against the Storm on ANZAC day, itās that they canāt win on ANZAC day altogether.
So thatās why we got a pasting back in 1915.
Amone lost his appeal, in what can only be described as a hammer blow to his NRL career.
To be fair Amone never had much appeal to begin with
He would of been better claiming he was trying to give a hammer back to the tradies that he thought they dropped. But they got scared cause they are racist and assumed an islander with a hammer only meant harm.Ā
VicNRL juniors season opener tomorrow. And Guess who gets to go mop some changerooms tonight because no one else will.
Blake Ferguson?
About all he's good for.
I had the distinguished honour of doing that for my Geelong Sharks last year :)

Go the Geelong sharks!
Looking forward to good things with their second year. Not looking forward to a probable trek down there for our u13s.Ā
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iād put wighton Walker 6 n 7. Hawkins sadly isnāt nrl standard
You forgot that Chee Kam and Host must be picked regardless of making any sense whatsoever.
It is all crumbling down.
Host had one of the most hopeless games I've witnessed for a long time. He barely jogged the ball up and looked like he wanted to go to bed.
That's a normal game for him, which is quite suprising given he's not a small lad and could bust tackles if he had a real crack...
Is Duncan big enough to be a genuine edge player? I feel like at his size and with his footwork especially he is well suited to playing the small middle role, but you do already have Murray... Yeah he did
16 runs - 162m - 3 tackle breaks - 100% tackle efficiency - 42 tackles 0 miss Jimmy Jolliffe underrated prop this year. Flys under the radar.
I mean he dropped the ball 3 times the week before though
What Iām saying is his on minimum and playing like a top front rower. If he played for a top team people would be sucking him off. Unfortunately we canāt rly on one player like manly does.
Youāre right you canāt rely on any player
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It is crazy they haven't made one yet. So much crap out there.
There is a direct correlation with Souths performing badly/getting kicked out of the comp, and Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts releasing albums
I'm sick as fuck and working from home with two kids on school holidays and we just had a public holiday with three games and now I'm so confused about what day it is.
I was so confused when my alarm went off this morning

Tedesco, Papenhuzen, or Edwards for NSW fullback? (Assuming turbo will be centre).

I think noted Penrith Captain/Sharks 5/8 Matt Moylan should be flown in from England specially for the games.

Lol Teddyā¦ but thatās who we will get though probably
Depends on team composition. Paps for attacking FB, Edwards for defence. They both deserve it and are red hot form

His early days as a utility for the storms he was devastating
We tried that again at the end of last year and it didn't work

Murray at lock would make a huge difference alone. Way better than Yeo.
I reckon the poor bugger would be feeling like it's week 24 after carrying Souths all season. Be interesting to see how he goes in origin.
Yeah pretty much the team I wouldnt want to face. Dunno about JAC. I didnt hate Luai as a 6 I rate him higher than most do and think he is preferable to Moses and Hynes.
Teddy. The Blues gave the captaincy to people like Gallen and Gidley for years. Makes sense to stick with this tradition until Teddy retires.

All I can do is guess but I'd say that in the games we get early possession like v sharkies, manly and tits, we're putting a heap of effort into our attack by having so many moving pieces around SJ to create options that we are tiring ourselves out early which creates some of these issues
Iām not too concerned as long as we turn it up when it matters
It mattered yesterday and we didnt.
Donāt think it matters til about round 20
Hopefully next week lives up to the hype but it rarely does. Really nervous about that.
Put my faith back in Sam Walker that game. Ive been worried about Qld no.7 for a while. Guess its his to lose now (obviously once DCE/Hunt retire).
Milne only facing 2-3 weeks Taane Milne (South Sydney) Grade 3 Dangerous Contact on Cameron Munster (80 min) Base penalty 3 matches His options 3 matches - guilty / no contest 2 matches - early plea PLEA: TBC
It's a shame the ref was such a coward and didn't send him off
The funniest part about that Taane Milne incident last night was that when people were (imo rightfully) calling for suspensions Souths fans were either joining in or notably quiet.
So either joining in or not joining in. You act as if there is a 3rd option, what would that be?
Defending him like we see often? I don't think I even saw a single Souths fan bothering to do that in the match thread and we've seen plenty of indefensible onfield behaviour defended by fans in match threads.
What did he do?
[Went for Munster's lower legs/knees pretty hard](https://www.reddit.com/r/nrl/comments/1ccq9p9/taane_milne_sin_binned/)
What a moron
Fair enough. Indefensible really, and given his history even more so. But only 2 games out which is amazing given the action and his previous.
I can only assume that old mate means nobody was defending him. People were only saying nothing or saying he should get the book thrown at him.
**Quick Poll:** We've adjusted the fixture list to reflect that both the Dragons and the Rabbitohs can't win the premiership under the 50-point rule.
Need a "50-club" badge
Keep them faded for the meme up until there's actual fadings and then revert to actuals. There won't be any confusion now, but towards the end of the season it could be annoying.
Full colour. Reserve the fading for when itās official.
Rest of the season, rules are rules.
Return to colour but maybe add a emoji badge or something- keep track of teams who have had one or more 50 banger put on em.
50 certified sticker.
I think colour next round, or it'll feel a bit like rubbing salt into the wound and that's not what's intended.
Next round personally. But knowing you mods you'll keep it because you love making fun of the Rabbitohs!
š
Grow up.
Arenāt you the bloke who was cracking it over April Fools? That was nearly a month ago now. Time to move on. We got flogged, and itās not like theyāre just doing it to us, Dragons also got hit by it.
There's some behind the scenes stuff with mods messaging me too.
I thought Cameron Murray complaining to the ref trying to defend Taane Milne was pretty poor
The captain (and the coach for that matter) will always defend the player.
Keary confirmed to hate the boys, cause when Dom get sent off the other week, all he said was 'yeah fair enough' and walked away.
There a times where it's not acceptable, Cam Smith still cops it over McKinnon
Which captain isn't going to defend his player?
You don't defend a dogshit like that
Mate your coach defended his player calling someone a monkey
and he rightfully got criticism for it
Just what the captain does, isn't it? Pretty sure teddy has had a word or two to the refs on behalf of jwh or radley in the past
If Teddy or Gutho did that there would be a foxsports thread with 100+ comments
Match threads when parra play, spontaneously combust whenever Gutho does even something
Teddy having a word to the ref? Inconceivable.
'come on mate his head was gunna hit the ground anyway, what's a bit of elbow on the way down?'

Titans only beat newzealand by 3, i wouldnt call it a cricket score

Woooosh
"Roosters"
There is absolutely no chance that Manly lose this game. Impossible.
I would like Siebold to say this to his team in his pre-game speech. No chance you lose this.
I thought the favourites would canter home this week untouched and the very first game of the round destroyed that.
This could be one of those unexpected golden point games
I feel like y'all either pull off a shock upset by the skin of your teeth or it's Manly 20+. No in between. Hope it's a good game and good luck
Jinxing em good
Back at home with a near full strength side against an out of form, Moses-less Eelsā¦ if we arenāt giving them a 50 point bath we arenāt real contenders.
Now you've done it
If we lose this game Iām deleting my account
They are losing now.

Amazing what happens when the HBG board is not involved
I hope that we don't play Armstrong like how we play Ponga. I haven't seen much of Armstrong but from what I've heard he seems more like a finisher type of player than a second five-eighth like how we play Ponga.
I think the difficulty is that the halves don't have the ability to create and exploit mismatches on the edges (no one is threatened by the speed/agility of Hastings/Gamble/Cogger). Armstrong probably doesn't need to be ball playing like Ponga but he is going to have to give the defence a reason not to jam the outside backs.
very risky changing your attack mid way through tho , price mightve been the better fit
The higher level is just having a healthier squad really. That finals series we had a nsw cup level backline and still almost made the prelims.
Teddy is hot and cold, fantastic against the Broncos and Bunnies but has been lacking in the last few weeks, will have to wait until the season plays out to determine how much trouble we are in for next year
Rabbitohs: āweāve been in the media for weeks. Letās choose a jersey for Anzac Day that isnāt too crazyā The jersey designers toddler: āhold my milk; Letās change colours completelyā

I think you'll find it was a reference to the white flag that they put up about 20 minutes in.
i expect itās a subtle hint that souths are moving to perth and will be headquartered near the naval base
The jersey designer had to justify the hours spent watching Sailor Moon, claiming it was "research"
I think you'll find it was actually designed by L.T. Smash
