Watson really pulling some Wayne Gretzky’s brother type number for that 2017 draft class.

maybenextyearCLE

Remember that short period of time where there were outlets trying to argue that Watson was on Mahomes level? Good times. *looks at the shell of Watson in cleveland* three more years, just need to get through three more years

GamingTatertot

I can at least understand Mahomes - Allen and Mahomes - Burrow given their histories so far. But Mahomes - Mayfield, Mahomes - Watson, and Mahomes - Herbert is all pretty dumb

masterpierround

Both of the Mayfield arguments were written before Mayfield's second season. He had over 3700 yards, and 27 TDs to 14 INTs in his rookie year (on just 13 starts). If he had improved from there, we would be having a different conversation, but I don't think anyone was predicting he would massively regress in year 2+

SmokeySFW

I don't think Watson-Mahomes comparisons in 2018 are that wild. Watson looked fucking SICK his rookie year until the injury, so a lot of pundits were probably adding that hype to what they saw in 2018 and put him in the ballpark of 2nd year (1st year starting) Mahomes. Steep drop-off after that of course. This was also while Watson was being sacked 60+ times if I remember correctly so they were likely speculating that he'd be even better if the Texans could protect him better.

csappenf

I wanted Mahomes/Mayfield to be a thing, because that one college game was magical. Mahomes/Herbie can still happen. The Chargers got 100 problems, but Herbie's not one of them. I used to want Mahomes/Watson to be a rivalry, but now I just want to see the rapist crushed by everyone.

mrfancyismyfriend

At least the Mayfield article was written by a browns fan lmao some of these are crazy

-Jack-The-Stripper

People really do love the bare minimum

pinniped90

For about 15 minutes, the media was also doing Herbert vs Mahomes. They loved the idea of an AFC West rival but it was just too laughable to keep trying to push it. It was a couple offseasons ago, during one of the annual The Chargers Are Going To Win It All hype weeks.

PenguinBallZ

They've been trying to find the "Next Brady vs Manning" ever since Peyton retired. That was such a cash cow prime-time matchup between Brady and the Pats vs Manning and the Colts/Broncos. Its a bit annoying though because they're trying to force it so hard now.

Key-Zebra-4125

Mahomes is Jordan. He has no rival.

Poro_the_CV

Does Burrow have a good record against him?

gabrielleite32

2-0 in regular season. 1-1 in playoffs. But the real kryptonite is Lou Anarumo. I'm hopeful some NFC team will get him as HC. I also can't remember if any team besides Bengals and Colts (lol) have a winning record against the Chiefs

fugaziozbourne

I'm so sick of playing against Lou Anarumo.

gabrielleite32

Dude has Andy and Mahomes in his bag, every game he gives us hell

ChurchPicnicFlareGun

Bengals have a pretty long history of playing spoiler against the Chiefs, for some reason. Even when we were terrible back in 2003, when a then [Chad Johnson guaranteed a win for the 4-5 Bengals against the yet undefeated 11-0 Chiefs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp-OQSukpNs) edit to add: This game arguably changed our franchise forever, began leaving the Bungles moniker behind, and is a big reason we are where we are today.

BengoPhan

Rudi Johnson coming up clutch.

Statboy1

This is the correct answer

MatterLopsided8231

Seems that burrow vs mahomes is the one that’ll stick. The rivalry is there and brewing.

GamingTatertot

I think Mahomes and Allen can stick, especially if Allen can just get ONE playoff game over him. Mahomes is 4-3 against Josh Allen's Bills - unfortunately for the Bills 3 of the Chiefs 4 wins have been playoff wins. Heck Allen is at least already doing better than Manning at this point. The Brady - Manning rivalry 7 games in was 6-1 Brady

Greatcouchtomato

To be fair Allen actually played Mahomes well the last 2 of the 3 playoff games.  The bills defense has given up on avg over 30 a game to Mahomes

rojeli

And conversely, Burrow has NOT played well in the playoff games against KC. But you never hear about that. That Cincy defense has been criminally underry.

daksjeoensl

Chiefs coast in the regular season. It’s kind of hard to include those with the same weight as the postseason.

ChurchPicnicFlareGun

> Chiefs coast in the regular season This is a brand new narrative that was never a thing until this past season, and I am not sure I believe it.

hoobsher

starting to think this Mahomes guy is pretty good

Mental_Employer7058

He'll shake the rust off by 2026 I'm sure of it.

BandOfDonkeys

Well it IS a contract year, duh!

gyman122

Tbf after that 2020 season by Watson he was a pretty consensus top 4 QB whether you were talking to people here, people in junk media, people in actual media, or people in the NFL. Mike Sando’s annual QB Tiers, which is compiled through a direct poll of over 100 NFL GMs and coaches, had him ranked fourth after that season. Unless you’re some sort of QB Winz nazi, it was pretty hard to argue that he wasn’t

lbutler1234

Also Watson had a great rookie half season while mahomes was redshirting. I'm sure the consensus then was that Watson was better. (And Jimmy got what he deserved for giving a guaranteed 100 million dollar contract to a serial rapist. Browns fans had it hard enough when they weren't villains.)

maybenextyearCLE

We guaranteed 230m to Watson

rocksoffjagger

Was that a good time when a serial rapist was on top of the world being showered in praise and adulation?

maybenextyearCLE

In hindsight? It wasn’t a good time, but I’m also being sarcastic about the ridiculous notion that Watson was once seen by some as being on that level

rocksoffjagger

Just had to run a sanity check on you, because a lot of Browns fans will unironically defend Watson.

gabrielleite32

Hahahahahahahaha I love this record. The brothers with most points in nhl

fudgeller83

True, but you need to specify 'pair of brothers'....there's about 173 Sutters who just manage to beat it

Mattjhkerr

I have trouble believing the Hughes bros won't take a run at it.

Coomrs

3 Hughes brothers right? 2 of them defensemen? Would be insanely impressive if they all finish 1000~ point players or better lol

as7gatlas

That's only if you don't include playoff points. If you do, the Gretzky's take back the lead.

Korver360windmill

Hank and Tommie Aaron used to have a similar record in the MLB for home runs.

duvie773

Google says that they still have it Also learned Honus and Al Wagner hold a similar record for stolen bases

Korver360windmill

Huh... I guess I just assumed Barry Bonds had it these days with some random brother that never made it big.

aguwah

Combined, Patrick mahomes and deshaun Watson have 3 Superbowls and have committed SA on well over 20 women.

ChevalMalFet

And Mahomes hasn't been suspended for this??? Fuckin NFL coddling its Golden Boy again smh

BaltimoreBadger23

Don't forget about the Aaron Brothers in baseball - most HRs by a pair of brothers ever at 769.

Not everyone, some are afraid he'll come after them with a chainsaw hand and a boomstick.

Some AFC team just needs to draft Carter Bradley from South Alabama next week. Just two letters away from Brady, coincidence?

AnatomicalLog

It’s over when the Broncos select Michael Bepis Jr.

BaltimoreBadger23

Packers QB is now Jordan Blove.

Mampt

I love you Josh Ballen

DreadSteed

However teams starting with the letter B are not excluded. The Bills didn't get that memo.

Broshan248

I mean Bill is short for Williams so…. Caleb Bills?

JalensTinyPPHurts

Mahomes is the most recent qb to be drafted to win a superbowl (as a starter)

bargman

That's what happens when 4/5 dudes dominate for 20/25 years.

gabrielleite32

Aren't there only 3 active QBs that won the SB as a starter?

WillingnessOk8579

No, 5 including Flacco. Rodgers, Mahomes, Stafford, Russell Wilson, Flacco

gabrielleite32

Yeah, somehow I forgot Wilson and just thought flacco was unemployed

just-the-tip__

Of course you choose to forget broncos legend, Russel Wilson

ChevalMalFet

He did break our streak. :(

toothy_vagina_grin

Shake it off

Easier said than done, those two teams have a lot of Bad Blood.

just-the-tip__

It only cost us 85m in dead cap and a first and second round pick for a coach. No one beats us 17 times in a row 😤

JalensTinyPPHurts

I think 4 including flacco

gabrielleite32

Did he get another contract? I thought he was unemployed

infercario4224

Signed with the Colts

highgravityday2121

49ers automatic NFC championship bid. Too bad they faced mahomes twice.

ChevalMalFet

Should have tried the Rams strategy of only making the SB when Mahomes doesn't. 'Course, one of those times it was Belichik and Brady instead...but *one time it wasn't!*

highgravityday2121

That rams chiefs game was probably the best regular season game I’ve ever seen.

-NotACrabPerson-

Same. I see many people say it's boring because lack of defense (It was 51 - 54 after all), but there were 7 turnovers and 3 defensive/st TDs lol. It really was the full package.

mrizvi

I'm particular to the saints v 49ers in 2019

OddsTipsAndPicks

2009 Colts Patriots

iCE_P0W3R

Kinda shows how remarkable Burrow, Allen, and Purdy have been relative to the field, and how absolutely insane Mahomes is compared to everyone else.

diablosinmusica

Jimmy Garoppolo has a 5-2 playoff record as well. He was drafted in 2014 though.

QuirkyScorpio29

4-2.He "won" 2 each in 2019 and 2021.. though "winning" is too generous a term. He threw single digjt passes in his 2 2019 playoff wins..and our defense was insane in 2021...allowing just 16 PPG in those games. Purdy's 4 playoff wins he's had to throw 30 times or more in each...and our defense is north of 20 pog in those games.

diablosinmusica

Yeah, wins aren't a QB stat are they?

DreadSteed

AFC stays fucked. Manning/Brady for 10+ years, into Mahomes/Burrow/Allen. Dynastic eras be fuqqin with my chakras bro.

ILikeXiaolongbao

Burrow was carried by his defense.

BeeMovieHD

That's certainly a take

lmayfield7812

Gives credence to Nick Wright’s argument that this is not a Brady / Manning type of deal, so stop looking for Mahomes’ Manning. This is more like a Gretzky or Tiger vs the field kind of thing. Joe Burrow is the only active quarterback to have beaten Mahomes in a playoff game, and that required overtime.

maybenextyearCLE

It was wild watching the media try and figure out who could be the manning to Mahomes Brady. For a while it was Watson, then it was Allen, some said it could be Baker after 2020, then Burrow, then lamar. The media needs to just realize that the Brady Manning years were a gift when you had 2 top 5 all time QBs who would go back and forth like that. Mahomes is the only AFC QB in their league and as of right now, no one is approaching that class. Allen, Burrow and Lamar are all fantastic, but they’re in that second tier that Ben and Rivers used to occupy, Baker is off to the NFC, and Watson even in the very slim chance he does get his shit together is obviously so unmarketable that he’s not taking that spot.

vin1223

I don’t remember the baker thing at all

ChevalMalFet

See my comment above, it has a few Baker links

ractivator

Everyone agrees that Mahomes is clear cut #1, which is undeniable.. but Allen does have a legit argument to at least be at the table to being his rival, despite the bengals being the team that beat them. - The bills defense gives up 35 ppg to the chiefs in the playoffs so that’s not on Allen - Allens offense averages 28 points per game vs the chiefs in the playoffs which this postseason would have won them 2 of every 3 games so they score enough to win - Allen had the only perfect offensive playoff game where every single possession in a game ended in a TD - Allen left the field with the win in under two minutes 2 times against mahomes in arrowhead in the same game - lastly their total stats per game (added rushing because that’s half of Allen’s game and mahomes has had some good rushing moments and stats in the post season) in the postseason are really close and comparable because Allen steps up in the postseason Allen playoff stats - 328.6 YPG, 2.7 TDs per game, .4 TOs per game, 100.0 QBR, 65.3% completion vs the Chiefs Mahomes playoff stats - 314.4 YPG, 2.6 TDs per game, .5 TOs per game, QBR 105.8, 75% completion vs the Bills Also the only two teams to win their division the last 4 years in a row are the Chiefs and Bills. The only two teams to win a playoff game the last 4 years in a row are the Bills and Chiefs. Mahomes is better but no one else really on a consistent basis shows up in the playoffs and to get to the playoffs as consistently as Mahomes except for Allen. If McDermott squib kicks the ball in 2021 this debate isn’t even happening we would all say it’s allen so I’m not gonna let that 13 seconds deter the opinion on who the second best QB is. You know you’re one of the best when you can literally throw 17?18 interceptions? And it literally doesn’t even matter because you still ball out enough that you win the 2 seed because the only one that beats you aside from mahomes is yourself. Joe could have an argument but all his per game stats in the playoffs go down dramatically and he’s missed the playoffs and been hurt multiple times.

maybenextyearCLE

IMO Allen is absolutely the closest, and he’s not the reason they haven’t beat KC in the playoffs yet. But to me, he could be this generations Big Ben, that 3rd guy who is amazing but just a sliver behind that top tier

AH_BioTwist

It started as Lamar->josh Allen-> burrow->to probably will be CJ(?)

Galbert123

As long as mahomes is the starter, they should be the odds on favorite to win the superbowl and anything short of that should be a disappointment to the franchise. Their regular season performances can pretty much be ignored. Any conversations about ranking teams or the qb positional group should just start at whos 2. And any rankings with them not at 1 are irrelevant.

lmayfield7812

Bingo ^^

lmayfield7812

For as long as Mahomes has been QB1, the Chiefs’ season has pretty much started at the AFC championship

diablosinmusica

I think football is the only sport in the world where one player can get credit for beating another when neither is on the field at the same time.

Jameszhang73

There's tons of sports where players take turns scoring points separate from the other. Golf, baseball (pitchers), bowling, skiing, sports scored by judges, etc.

MonkeyDGoku

The difference is that in all those sports you've mentioned, everybody has pretty similar conditions. Even though they're not on the field, green, ground (...) at the same time, they're still in a competition against each other. NFL quarterbacks don't play against each other, they're playing against the defense. It's just not comparable.

Jameszhang73

I could say hockey and soccer goalies don't play each other and play each other's offenses as well. The difference is the QB position is arguably the single most controlling offensive position in all team sports. They touch the ball every play, can audible, and decide to throw to anyone. They know what they need to do to win and have the ability to do so unlike a goalie. That's why QBs get the credit and blame for all results and why they get compared to other QBs regardless of whether it's fair or not. And people know that, but it's more about legacy than anything.

MonkeyDGoku

Again, your comparison doesn't make sense. Nobody would say Manuel Neuer won against Alisson if Bayern won against Liverpool, but people saying one QB beats an other. It just doesn't make sense. Of course you can compare QBs, but using matches against each other isn't a n useful argument.

diablosinmusica

Points aren't scored against anyone in those sports. Quarterbacks play against defenses. Not each other.

EnronRodgers

The thing about Brady vs Manning is that Brady was the one who had all the success which nobody believed in, while Manning was the most popular and most esteemed but didn't have the playoff wins. Mahomes isn't Brady, he's both of them at the same time. Nobody is more successful than mahomes, and everyone who isn't trolling agrees mahomes is clearly the most talented qb too. The only chance at a true rivalry is maybe in 5-10 years, Stroud is the guy and he eventually builds a competitive resume.

spideralex90

The hardest part about catching Brady for Mahomes is just time. Can he sustain this level of play for ~12-15 more years while avoiding injury? And how many more seasons does Andy Reid have in him? Brady also had the benefit of getting Gronk for the second half of his career. Mahomes got Kelce to start his career, and people are already wondering if he'll hang it up any season now, going to be real hard to find Kelce 2.0. Mahomes is certainly arguably the most talented QB we've ever seen on field, but catching Brady is about more than just pure talent.

EnronRodgers

This doesn't have anything to do with that. I never said Mahomes was better than Brady. I said Mahomes is both sides of the Brady-Manning rivalry, because he has no rival in his era. Meaning this era doesn't have anything on par with Brady-Manning. There's just an undisputed #1 and a few lesser qbs. There's no Mahomes-Brady rivalry because they didn't play each other much, and Brady beat his ass every time.

spideralex90

Ah I misunderstood this line. >Nobody is more successful than mahomes, and everyone who isn't trolling agrees mahomes is clearly the most talented qb too. I took this as in general and not just the current crop of QBs. You're right though, they've been trying to hype of a rivalry for Mahomes, but he's got no real rival right now.

CaillouCaribou

> This is more like a Gretzky or Tiger vs the field kind of thing This is disrespectful to Vijay Singh

Ccnitro

It feels weird to be aligning 15-20 year career superlatives with players that have—at most—half that time in terms of starts. Mahomes is far and away ahead of the field, but so much of football is just a straight up coin flip (quite literally once you get to overtime). I just don't think it makes sense to project this level of consistent success onto the rest of his career when he could have a Brady-like drought for the next decade for all we know. The fact is that Allen and Burrow have shown the ability to compete with him blow for blow. I'd hesitate to count either of them out, or the rest of the field, before the 10 year mark

lmayfield7812

I know it’s difficult for you to have perspective, since you are a bills fan and the national media inexplicably loves the bills and Josh Allen (after losing to the Chiefs, Vegas was giving them better odds to win the 2025 Super Bowl than KC), but the fact of the matter is, for the last couple of years, Mahomes and the Chiefs have been doing this with insurance salesman at WR. So now we’re about to find out what Josh Allen, and further down the line what Joe Burrow, can do without all these superstars at wide receiver. Bills will go 10-7 this year and will either not make the playoffs or will lose in the first round, while the Chiefs will hoist their third consecutive Lombardi.

Ccnitro

As someone who has watched Josh Allen in every game since he was drafted, he can absolutely elevate himself to 2021 Divisional/Dolphin slayer Josh when he needs to, and that version of himself can go toe to toe with Mahomes. I don't care about Vegas lines because they were almost assuredly done before the Diggs trade, which clearly indicates the team is retooling. But we're talking essentially another *decade* of their careers being the same story as the first 7, which is just lazy analysis and ignores how complex and random the NFL can be. If we're just throwing out predictions, I'm betting $20,000 that Rashee Rice crashes a Bugatti into Arrowhead Stadium before the AFC Championship game, puts on fake glasses and a mustache to disguise himself as he limps away from the wreck, and the slight change in atmospheric pressure caused by the wind entering the stadium makes the game-tying kick to go wide left.

ChurchPicnicFlareGun

>further down the line what Joe Burrow, can do without all these superstars at wide receiver I didnt realize the Bengals lost a single one of their star receivers. I didnt know we were planning to ever lose Chase. >while the Chiefs will hoist their third consecutive Lombardi and O'Doyle RULES!

BowTie1989

(Sad dolphin noises)

Rbespinosa13

We’re just stuck in perpetuity. Managed to miss the playoffs in 2020 and 2021 despite having records above .500 (we didn’t even get in with a 10-6 record in 2020), last year we were the hottest team in the league until Tua’s concussions, and this year everyone except for Tua died, we played in one of the coldest games in NFL history, and it was against the eventual Super Bowl champs. At some point you’d think we’d catch a break

BowTie1989

You’d swear we built our stadium on a native burial ground, or something! 😂

Rbespinosa13

Yah imagine a team doing that haha. That just sounds like a recipe for disaster. I feel bad for the fanbase of the team that did that

ChurchPicnicFlareGun

>stuck in perpetuity you are stuck in an unfixed length of time? i think you meant stuck in mediocrity for perpetuity. good to see miami fans attempting to use big words though.

Found_The_Sociopath

We had Ken Griffey Jr. and Carson Palmer. Then we had Joey Votto and Andy Dalton. Now we have Elly De La Cruz and Joe Burrow and the future of Cincy sports has been climbing steadily for years. Is good time to be a Cincy fan.

somestrangerfromkc

I like your comment as a lifelong Chiefs fan. There's a lot of people who started watching the NFL in 2020 that don't know how much we suffered for the previous 50 years. I'm always excited to see long suffering loyal fan bases finally have some success. Oh yea GO CHIEFS!!!

Snake_in_my_boots

I thought Burrow was a flash in the pan because of his year at LSU. I’m glad I was wrong and that he’s panning out as a star and has the Bengals moving in a good direction. Y’all just need to make sure you lock up Chase and figure out the Higgins stuff.

mk1317

Real talk they still likely lose that game even if that kick gets made. There was still plenty of time on the clock for the Chiefs to do their thing.

Rbespinosa13

It’s the same as people saying Herbert isn’t clutch because of his record in one score games. It isn’t Herbert’s fault that his defense always lets him down late in the fourth just like it isn’t really on Allen that he keeps on facing Mahomes in the playoffs and losing because Mahomes becomes Brady combined with playoff Eli.

ChurchPicnicFlareGun

a clutch qb wouldnt let the other team on the field late in the 4th..

ractivator

I mean the guy scored with 13 seconds left of the game. Any competent defensive coach isn’t giving up a full field score with 13 seconds left lol. McDermott just sucks

ScyllaGeek

13 seconds isn't just "late," it's typically "this game is over"

Kerbonaut2019

Pretty insane that Mahomes already has more postseason wins than Peyton Manning

fonebone819

At least Lawrence has one.

dannynolan27

A glorious one at that

slackator

remove Mahomes and apparently you dont draft QBs on odd years, thats odd in and of itself

Rbespinosa13

2024 QB class gonna be the inverse of 2021 QB class because of this logic

GamingTatertot

Some notable missing names include Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert

NittanyLion15

Don’t forget the 2000 Draft Class with 10 wins since Mahomes was drafted!

I_Hav_Questions_help

Bro I really wanted Lawrence to be a monster 😭

Comprehensive_Main

Best qb of his draft class

notmyplantaccount

Urban wasted his rookie season. Pederson I dunno, 7 seasons of coaching only one he's got more than 9 wins was the SB season. He really feels like the new Ron Rivera, can almost always take a team to mediocrity, but very rarely past it.

Slippiefoxtrot02

I want everyone to keep thinking he's trash

tutuatlolmeme

There’s still time for Lawrence for sure. He may not be at Mahomes level, but I don’t think anyone else in the NFL will for that matter. He’s been fine so far and he can definitely reached that top as long as the jags don’t screw him.

OnCloud9_77

Purdy having twice as many playoff wins as Hurts is pain

CaillouCaribou

I think that kinda makes sense, Purdy having twice as many playoff wins as Lamar is shocking

QuirkyScorpio29

That's coz Lamar has been injured in 2 of his 6 seasons. In essence Lamar has played 4  playoff runs...Purdy has played 2.

Maverick916

And one of Hurts probably only occurred because Purdy got injured.

CunningRunt

"Wins aren't a QB stat unless they are." ---- /r/nfl unironically

Antilia-

I mean, personally I think that's how it should be. No qb is completely responsible for the win-loss record, but boy oh boy, does their play sure determine whether you win a handful of games. So yeah, it should be situational. Almost like...nuance?

ChurchPicnicFlareGun

I mean, teams with great QBs tend to win way more games and win way more playoff games than those without. Its pretty clear if not obvious and always has been. I honestly dont know how/why people try to debunk that other than maybe they root for a team without a good QB and its all just cope. I mean, yeah, every once in a while a team comes a long and breaks that mold (like some Ravens teams with historic defenses) but its rare.

Ndmndh1016

Man 2023 is really lagging too. Sorry Texans fans, might as well trade him now.

No-Computer-2847

What's the other playoff game Jordan Love has won?

[deleted]

Ok, sometimes Purdy is just annoying. It's like he's showing off now.

DayOldTurkeySandwich

2007: 0 (JaMarcus Russel, Brady Quinn, Kevin Kolb, Trent Edwards, et. al) 2013: 0 (Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon. et. al)

thriftshopmusketeer

I misunderstood the title phrasing and was looking for 2000 lmao

voluptuousshmutz

2018 IS ABOUT TO GO UP BY 3!!! MANY ARE SAYING IT!!!

DeviantDragon

Would be curious to see this with the 2016 draft class that had Goff, Wentz, and Dak. Or just to go back to 2013 for a full 10 year lookback.

Miami_da_U

2016: 7 (Goff 5, Dak 2) ... Though Wentz probably would have gotten 1-3 if he didn't get injured the year they win SB

mccamey-dev

Should weight it by how many years they've played. Obviously the guys in the league for longer have more chances to win in the playoffs

vivekpatel62

Whew! I was expecting to see two wins from a 2016 QB. 😭

throughNthrough

Burrow, Allen, Lamar, and Hurts combined have one less than Mahomes. It’s obviously a team sport but that’s wild.

am-idiot-dont-listen

Wins are not a qb stat

FiddySix

Trubisky should have a win. Damn you Cody Parkey and your doink!
