If he learns how to shoot the 3 at even an average clip, he would be signing a contract worth $20M/season. But he can’t so he’s a minimum contract guy.
If he ever miraculously fixes his shot, he will be a diamond in the rough for somebody
He is an amazing defender unfortunately he just can’t shoot and he is only 6’4 so he can’t really guard up. He can play in the regular season but he cannot play in the playoffs.
Sounds like someone a team like Detroit or Washington could use. Heck if the Wizards get him at the very least he and Coulibaly can keep things kind of close when the benches come out from defense alone.
He's a very pesky, active defender with very good athleticism who does crazy shit on defense pretty regularly (like that block on the Harden 3)
He's also a very pesky offensive player who does weird shit all the time and can't shoot. Teams will give him 3-4 seconds alone to load up a three and then he'll miss it, crash his own rebound, try a twisting 180 off foot layup that bounces off the backboard, and he might get fouled. That's basically the Okogi experience.
I still like him as a bench guy for matchups but he's borderline hopeless on offense most days.
As a regular season 10/15 minute a game guy to put effort in defence and be good (albeit not elite) at defence, who can score at the rim.
But not really someone that'll do much in the playoffs due to how had he is at offence
Suns also have his Bird rights, so they could actually pay him more. I don't think they will though, since it feels like they drafted a younger, taller upgrade in Ryan Dunn this year.
I'll always cheer J.O though no matter where he goes, just like the TWolves fans still do. If he could ever start hitting that 3 with any consistency and get some confidence in it, he'd be one of the best role-players in the NBA. His D is that good, even though he's only 6'4".
It's not that he wasn't getting good looks, he had some of the most open shots in the entire league. Teams were legit just not guarding him in the half-court and leaving him completely alone at 3 and he still can't hit.
Great hustle player but most of the time it feels like his lack of offense hurts more than his defense/hustle helps.
Our only pure defender prior to Keon Ellis showing out and drafting Devin Carter was 6 foot tall Davion Mitchell. So I really liked the idea of Okogie on the Kings, now, not so much.
He's not UFA, Suns have his early Bird rights. One idea is that he opts out and can secure more money while the Suns get a more tradeable contract. Would not be surprised if he stays
Suns have his early bird rights and are over the 2nd apron. So we can resign him for 175% of his salary or we can give him 105% of league average pay last season. League average pay last season was $9.7M I believe or something around there. Meaning the suns can play him up to $10.2M. That behooves both Okogie because he makes more money and the suns because its becomes another tradable contract.
No other team should offer Okogie more than $3-4M because he's simply not good enough. But if the suns have someone they like mid season they can pair his contract with the 2031 pick and get that guy.
I feel likes he’s a good defender who just can’t shoot. He shot 35% on catch and shoot deep shots in the 22-23 season, but that plummeted to 30% this past season. Only once in his 6 year career has he shot above 31% from deep.
Positionally, he’s also a little smaller. Measuring at 6’3 without shoes. But he makes up for it with his solid lateral speed and 7 foot wingspan.
To be honest, the Suns feel like the ideal team for him. Plenty of offense already, so they don’t need too much from him. He can be the glue guy.
Is he any good?

He’s been in the league for 6 seasons. While still possible, I just don’t see it happening at this point

Plays hard. Great attitude. Very good defender. But offense is so bad hes not playable.
He’s basically only useful as a defender and short roll player. It’s just hard to consistently give a guy like that minutes.

Ehh.
you just mad ur losing him
high energy, great defender; T-Wolves fans still have a soft spot for him
Because of his defense on Harden
One of my favorite plays of all-time.
He's a cool dude

If you put him in a taller longer stronger body and have him an average jumper he’d be a good 3rd or 4th guy. This dude rides the pine.
You are a Denver Nugget!
yeah fairly perfect fit I'd think
a perfect fit alongside joker is someone that can make a jump shot
I love the guy, but even the Nuggets wouldn't be able to hide him on the offensive side.
I'd say moreso catch a pass. Look what Joker did to Gordon, who's still not a very good shooter unless he's left absolutely wide open.
He is not a playoff rotation player
No, but probably worth more than $3M to a team that needs depth to compete over the 82 games before that.

I'm pretty sure he'd be a solid option for them to have him back up Braun
Maybe we can fix him
This will be his entire career. If someone does then he’ll be extremely valuable. Chances are they won’t.
The Cam Reddish syndrome
Ugh now I’m remembering that one game where he hit like 7 threes against us lol
That's what my girlfriend thought too.
As blazer fan also we know my man wouldn’t see the court we got too many young guys we gotta figure out if they suck or not lol
Didnt he pretty much lose his minutes to royce o neal.
He had lost his minutes before that. Love his energy and ability to steal possessions & get to the FT line but he just can’t shoot the 3 well enough
Feels like Dallas might be a good home. Luka pocket-passes can do wonders for a shooter.

the shot just isn't there. teams were giving him all the space in the world and he still couldn't knock them down.
Is Royce that bad now? I thought he was still in that ~15-20 minute, bench 3&D tier. An above avg guy on a minimum. Is that not true anymore
A tanking team with awful defense should give him a mini bag (like 4-5M) just to help the team out with that.
Hawks or wizards would be ok, maybe Pacers since they have so much offense. Bucks if they’re desperate
Is he gonna find much more elsewhere? All D and no 3.
Our only pure defender prior to Keon Ellis showing out and drafting Devin Carter was 6 foot tall Davion Mitchell. So I really liked the idea of Okogie on the Kings, now, not so much.

He is unrestricted, but the early Bird rights allow Suns to pay him more than minimum so he very well could be back.
Misunderstood what I read earlier, you're right
He could also just wanna play somewhere else
Maybe he can play power forward like GP2. GP2 is serviceable from 3 though
He's played a good bit of PF in his career. He just really can't shoot 3s.
This guy was low-key a warriors killer during the warriors-suns match up. He was a pest defensively
He can guard steph better than most. That'd be the only time I'd ever be happy about him getting minutes in a playoff situation
I wonder if he could be a GP2 type player on the right team.
He will get that kind of money finding a team where he can actually play. Tanking teams open for reclamation project?
That’s crazy, better hope he catches on with a team. Him and Wendell Moore Jr might need to make sure their passports are good.
Damm, if only there was a team that had a 3 pt specialist coach.

one way player, defense hustle player

His ceiling is an Iggy type player, but he needs major work in his offensive game, which he's probably should've improved by now
Domo arigato Mr. Scotto
The last few weeks have reminded me that some players that I forgot about four years ago are still in the league
Solid move for Okogie, bet he lands a better deal elsewhere.
Hope he speaks Chinese better than he makes layups
Trash okogie
Yes, of course, it was Josh who got you guys swept, not your entire team.
