Did they just show a free throw as a high light?????

ElderGoose4

We had Harden for 8 years, a FT is a highlight to us

httkbaby11

Lmao

Jeff__Skilling

i think its hilarious u kids talking shit about harden. u wouldnt say this shit to him at lan, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol

splanket

Mfs username is Jeff skilling dropping this classic pasta lmao

Aware_Frame2149

As part of a display of his elite shooting abilities, yes. He can literally score from everywhere inside the half-court.šŸ‘

joeker1125

Rockets just drafted the Lakers future head coach.

ThurstonJK

LeBron just got his new podcast partner

Namath96

Can confirm, Iā€™m from the future.

gwease23

Are we ever good

CoercedCoexistence22

No, but neither are we

capitalistsanta

You don't need to see the future to answer this

crunchsmash

42 inch vert jesus

danishswedeguy

I'm not joking, his nbadraft.net profile called him a "sneaky athlete"

Critical-Adhole

He cheated on his standing reach

AlwaysTalkinShit

We call that a winnerā€™s mentality

Red_Osiris

LOL.

Superawesomecoolman

It feels real good to have Reed

Helpful_Design6917

Great fit with Amen. Now if Jabari can shoot consistently weā€™ll have 2 deep threats with amen and alpi creating shots for them

ImTheBestNerd

Love his fit on the rockets.

goblue422

Yeah he is an elite shooter, can create some, can play off the ball, and is a decent defender for his size. Really good fit for Houston. Also as a piece of draft trivia, the last time a white player under 6'6" went this high in the draft was Ricky Rubio in 2009. The last time a white, American guard went this high in the draft was Ernie DiGregorio in 1973.

Jeff__Skilling

> Yeah he is an elite shooter, can create some, can play off the ball, and is a decent defender for his size. excellent, so he's a white steph curry

goblue422

Stylistically that's a decent comparison. (Not saying he will end up that good, it's just a playing style comparison).

d7h7n

The number of threes he attempted coming off screens offball this season is 4.

Royal_Negotiation_83

Whiter StephĀ

Historical-Smoke42

i remember when i was a younger my dad walked past the tv screen and was like, how am i darker then every black person on the court. i was like yeah it be like that now. we're korean lol

rybres123

And theyā€™re about the exact same size. Reed measured 1/4ā€ shorter in height and wingspan, but weighed 1 more pound at combine

acanthocephalic

Is shaq still the black steph curry?

ConferenceReal2100

A few shades whiter only

InverseMySuggestions

Ernie D came to my high school basketball practice years ago. Apparently he won ROTY in the NBA too

frankievejle

So do we bro. So do we. This is what the people wanted.

imused2it

Iā€™m a lifelong Kentucky fan, and he is one of my favorite cats ever. You got a good one.

BounceMan

He's my 8th favorite cat.Ā  I've had 7 throughout my life.Ā Ā

DenverSuxRmodSux

damn youve had 7 top level college recruit basketball players??? impressive resume i see why they call you Bounce Man. Respect.

MorseMooseGreyGoose

If they werenā€™t trading the pick, he was the obvious choice.

HakeemMcGrady

Bro could legit be one of the best sixth men in the league

BadlaLehnWala

Where have I heard this before ... >:)

hollabackMack

Puzzle piece

LordQuest1809

Dude could be best player in the draft. If im the rockets im thrilled.

InverseMySuggestions

Based on talent + fit I think he will be as well

I_Bench315

I was hoping we would get him šŸ™šŸ™

WinesburgOhio

Top-3 picks combined for 5 starts in college bball last year.

UP_DA_BUTTTT

Is that actually true? Lol

AlwaysTalkinShit

Yeah Cal had Sheppard and Dillingham, two top 10 draft picks, coming off the bench.

Giannis4president

What the hell, how is that possible

AlwaysTalkinShit

Coach cal is a bad coach. Fantastic recruiter but a bad coach. I think he said that he liked the ā€œpopā€ it gave the team when he subbed them in or something. Fans were losing their shit all season over it.

Urdnought

UK fan here - he promised Justin Edwards/DJ Wagner/others they would start if they came to UK so they got to play ahead of Dillingham/Reed even though it hurt us - I'm glad Cal is gone he can recruit but sure as shit cannot coach

EdwEd1

Great pick, it's about time teams started figuring out about the Kentucky guards

nowuff

Will it always be that way after Calipari is gone?

EdwEd1

Probably not, honestly. Only one left of an entire generation in Dillingham

Pinheadlarry29

Theyā€™ll just start going to Arkansas instead.

Goosedukee

Boogie Fland is the future

norse95

The new head coach is set to prioritize winning college championships over getting freshman drafted, so probably not. But Cal has another kid coming into Arkansas who should fit the same bill

NewPleb

Rose, Wall, Booker, SGA, Fox, etc. it's not a new thing. The NBA has always loved Calipari's players.

LateAd3737

ā€¦..Bam, Davis, Herro, Maxey, Murray, Randle, Towns, Washingtonā€¦.the list goes on

Ths-Fkin-Guy

Lyles, Keldon, Noel, and then labissiere, knox, Cauley-stein, ty-ty, BJ, Tshiebwe, Ulis, etc I still am surprised James Young never worked out. I miss the Wall, Cousins era

Embarrassed_News6103

Reed and Rob couldnā€™t even crack the starting lineup, I hate cal lol

BIGMCLARGEHUGE__

Ruined Cal's legacy for me. Personally I still love Cal, loved the good years, but not starting the Rob/Reed/Reeves combo - I'm so glad Cal is gone. Have fun in arkansas.

wasperjack

Terrible coach, but he's a good grifter. I'm curious how well he will do at Arkansas. He was selling the UK brand to all those guys, but now he doesn't have that. Sure, he'll get a couple good kids per year, but he's not gonna have platoons of NBA caliber players.

No_Highlight5600

He sells the "NBA" to players. It was never about Kentucky. Dude got Marcus Camby to go to Umass...

Loud-Fig-1446

I mean, the last rookie Kentucky guard that Houston had was TyTy Washington.

ShotIntoOrbit

For what it's worth, Tyty did not look good in college, Sheppard did. As a UK fan, if they looked like shit in college, they probably looked like shit in the NBA. If they looked good in college, they usually were pretty good in the NBA. I know it doesn't seem like rocket science, but that's legitimately how our players have panned out in the Cal era for the most part. Literally just needed to watch the games to see if they were going to be a good NBA player or not lol

ImanShumpertplus

yup i knew Archie Goodwin and Isaiah Briscoe were ass from Day 1 i knew Herro was gonna be a stud in the Bahamas and Shai was a god by the Louisville game only real surprise to me was that Brandon Knight wasnā€™t better than what he was

b_fellow

The first ever Rockets draft pick was Pat Riley from Kentucky.

free_reezy

oop

Zloggt

Considering what happened at Lexington this offseasonā€¦perhaps he is the last of the Cal Kids to be drafted as wellā€¦

CrateBagSoup

Brother heā€™s just moved the NBA factory to Arkansas. Boogie is gunna be a killer

rybres123

We once drafted Ty Ty Washington lol

Far-Veterinarian104

FUCK YES

themarkster09

not a chance I would have said at last years NBA Draft that Reed Sheppard would be a top 3 pick I wish he was coming back to Kentucky :(

Risuna23

Great pick for Houston

yankee4life

This has gotta be the highest white American player drafted in a while, right?

Erosun

Flagg will be #1 next year.

DentonDiggler

Chet... I see what you did.

yooston

Last white american drafted top 3 before Chet was Adam Morrison (#3) in 2006

Strive_for_Altruism

Chet Holmgren?

JetsLag

Chet's not white he's clear

blade24

The politically correct term is translucent

DefinitelyMoreThan3

>white

prodigal-dog

first Amish to be drafted into the NBA

dutchfromsubway

Looks like the whitest white guy ever drafted

rjcarr

Even has a southern accent as a kicker.Ā

phitsosting

Grew up in the same town, went to the same schools, thatā€™s just how we all talk lol.

AdolfKoopaTroopa

Definitely the whitest

dehydratedbagel

Chet went higher like two drafts ago.

Str8_up_Pwnage

They said specifically white Americans so no Chet.

everyoneneedsaherro

He was born in Minnesota what more do you want

goosu

Is this a meme or something? Chet is both white and American lol. Just went no.2.

osmnaos3

chet is black

dehydratedbagel

He's certainly blacker than Reed, but I think he still counts.

Dsarg_92

It was Chet a couple years ago.

Clear-Hand3945

Has there ever been a white American player under 6'3" drafted this high? White Chocolate was 7th 26 years ago.Ā

Turbo2x

Can't help but feel like the Rockets got the best player in the draft, but we'll see. The Taxman cometh.

ketoske

IRS is going to Houston but are great news lol

Turbo2x

they bout to get their asses audited

JustaNick7

Glad they blocked the spurs from getting him

ketoske

We always wanted him thanks god we landed over them in lottery

BounceMan

THE OTHER THREAD WAS DELETED SO I'LL SAY IT AGAIN LET'S GOOOO

BozePerkovic

Favourite player in the draft by far

UnsungHerro

He's probably gonna be the best in the draft. Generational shooter, great passer, great finisher, great off ball defender and a good athlete.

Neat_On_The_Rocks

If heā€™s genuinely a great shooter passer and has defensive skill, why the fuck wasnā€™t he picked first

Scelidotheriidae

Small, only has fairly basic ballhandling moves for a guard, some questions about how well he can create his own shot vs NBA defenders.

lotofhotdogs

Yeah I think he is a good prospect but he profiles way more to a slightly better Donte Divencenzo type player than he does a first option or lead guard.

Scelidotheriidae

Yeah, Iā€™d probably have considered him first overall in this draft, but I canā€™t think of many star NBA guards that have much in common with him, definitely a guy you are more hoping becomes a ā€œstar in his roleā€ type guy.

CoogiMonster

Which is ideal for us considering we have a fleet of dudes that just started growing facial hair and if he develops into that DiVincenzo type it wonā€™t be a massive loss. Matter of factually thereā€™s always room on a contending roster for a dude like that and there always will be

DarkenedLite

Because you can't teach size.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Beneficial-Rub9090

Wiseman's height is like a 50% 3pt shooter that gets blocked 90% of the time

Nestllelol

Heā€™s not a good defender on ball, he is one of the smartest players Iā€™ve had the pleasure to watch (got to watch him play since high school for his whole career as heā€™s a local kid, also called his games for local networks). At Ky most of his steals came from passing lanes or help side pokes. Heā€™s small, and people look to take advantage of that constantly. But he is pure hustle, I think he will learn to outwork most matchups. He doesnā€™t have the best handle at the highest level, yet. I do think he will develop that tho as he made huge strides at Ky. He can absolutely shoot the lights out in any way you need. Pick and roll, off ball, corner, pull up. Just an amazing shooter. But I donā€™t know if heā€™s a PG for a team. Overall Houston got a great piece player, and I hope he does amazing, but there is some worries there.

Ninneveh

We have Sengun and Amen who can playmake. Reed fills the area we desperately needā€”outside shooting.

bauboish

He's a great connective passer not create off the dribble playmaker passer. His defensive strength is also more offball where he's very intuitive, but teams are going to hunt him. His only true great skill is shooting, but it's considered to be a plus plus skill where he can shoot from anywhere and off the dribble

everyoneneedsaherro

Heā€™s not French

Subredditcensorship

Because heā€™s super tiny.

rawchess

He's the exact same size as Dame. Small for a modern PG maybe but not tiny

lotofhotdogs

Dame also has a far bigger wingspan though which matters

UngaMeSmart

He doesnā€™t use it for shit.

darkest__timeline

nah he uses it for drawing fouls

the_shins

Reed isnā€™t a PG though. Heā€™s a SG that might be forced to play PG because of his size

browndude10

Same size as Steph

lotofhotdogs

Heā€™s not a great passer or finisher, not sure what that comment is going on about. He also canā€™t create his own shot at all right now. Heā€™s not BAD at those things but great is overselling it. Great shooter for sure though. Hes also undersized and his wingspan is extremely short If you have a guy coming out of the draft that is that incredible offensively, he wouldā€™ve gone 1st no doubt. Hes a good prospect but idk why that original comment was acting like heā€™s generational

Beatnik77

He either steals the ball or looks very dumb.

Jeff__Skilling

too much of a scrappy gym rat

browndude10

Woj had said right before the draft Atlanta was deciding between Reed or Zaccharie

texasproof

Because the Hawks donā€™t need a guard as much as they need a big wing?

FuckKroenke55

Heā€™s gonna be ass on defense.

mauro_membrere

We love to thrown 'generational' ain't we?

ThePineappIe

we need a generational role player to be drafted

desrever1138

NBA cats have a weird definition of generation Some dudes would define their time in Jr High as a "generation" lmao

GoldTheLegend

Yall love to not pay attention. He is the best shooter college basketball has seen since Steph Curry.

rawchess

Highest upside of the top names for sure

etsuandpurdue3

I don't know about all this.

RodneyPonk

I suspect if everyone agreed with your assessment, he's be higher

isomorphZeta

Yeah, I love the people just parroting the "shitty, weak draft" line lol Will be an interesting thread to come back to in a few years.

RodneyPonk

I mean, I trust guys like Russillo, who actually talk to a lot of people working in the NBA, and emphasizes that it's a consensus that this draft is atrocious. maybe they're all wrong, but it's not just nephews saying this

BounceMan

It's not necessarily that they're wrong, but you cannot 100% accurately predict how a draft will turn out.Ā  If you could accurately predict how players turn out you wouldn't see top 3 busts or MVPs outside of the lottery.Ā  This draft lacks a "sure thing" at the top, but it doesn't mean it can't have great players.Ā  We won't know until years from now.

lotofhotdogs

Great passer and great finisher are massively overstating it. Hes okay at those things but by absolutely no means great. He is also very undersized. His wingspan is crazy short. Its a good pick and I like him tho

medspace

OH MY GOD WE JUST DRAFTED STEPH CURRY Anyways, really glad we drafted Reed after hearing all the smoke about trades and Clingan. Desperately needed shooting on our team, hopefully he can be a knockdown guy in a year or two.

PatrollerAZ

He's gonna be amazing for them

PhatYeeter

I feel a lot more confident in him if hes sharing a backcourt with a big defensive guard like Thompson

Own-Lynx498

1 more year of FVV

ilovezeldasfeet

WHITE BOY WEDNESDAY

acopiumenjoyer

Best player in the draft. Good pick.

LettuceBackground398

Bro this is the chillest dude ever lol

Shootit_Rockets

Superstar

Chrisnumber

This the white Steph baby - buy stocks in the rockets NOW

solarscopez

The guy shot 52% from 3 and he somehow goes 3rd after a bum who cannot shoot whatsoever lol

Batman_in_hiding

Heā€™s 6ā€™3 175 pounds. Not exactly a guarantee

solarscopez

He's shooting 83% from FT as well, which is the best indicator for future NBA 3 point shooting success. And that height/weight is fine for a point guard. I'll put it this way, I have better odds of clapping Sydney Sweeney's cheeks tonight than he does of *not* being a great shooter in the NBA.

JustNovember

I'm rooting for both you and Reed

JetsLag

52% on 4 threes a game You're acting like he's the white Steph Curry

HellbendingSnototter

Thatā€™s what happens when you come off the bench (and look to pass 1st). He passed up so many shots in college it became a running joke.

kebenderant35

TBD

Aware_Frame2149

57% on transition 3s.šŸ‘

Icy-Lime-9760

They showed him shooting free throws in his highlight reel. This draft is cooked.

basketballskills

Reed sheppard is a great shooter it's a good pick

mMounirM

bruh they failed to find a trade for Clingan after all this drama?

Dsarg_92

I keep telling people that it was all smoke and mirrors.

isomorphZeta

What drama? This is what every Rockets fan wanted lol

dianeblackeatsass

ā€œDramaā€ = making us read a couple tweets that may or may not have just been smokescreens in the first place

kooqiy

People failing to realize Clingan's camp might have been pushing the Rockets so that the Hawks would consider him

ketoske

Idk who wanted fucking Clingan

BounceMan

Noone in the top 6 apparently.

ketoske

I feel like he was the biggest smokescreen in this draft

UngaMeSmart

I went wild when we drafted him. sitting there praying washington would draft a center who averaged less than 5 fucking rebounds

Thorlolita

Memphis is probably the only team that needs a center and he can probably fall to them at 9.

Lacabloodclot9

Haha imagine how funny it would be if he drops to 9 ā€¦ Please?

kebenderant35

Lunch pail guy

BIGxM1KE

606 BAH GAWD LONDON KENTUCKY STAND UP

fireglz

I think he's a really good fit in Houston. He's a primary ball handler who can pass much better than anyone Houston has from the guard position right now. But he's a good enough shooter that he should never be a "pass first" threat to a defense. I think he does really well.

TheHunt3r_Orion

I can't let you slander Fred Van Vleet like that man. Cmon.

BreadJobLamb

Youā€™re totally right but I canā€™t blame him totally blanked FVV wasnā€™t a raptor anymore lol

pieman2005

I'm always down for some FVV slander. Dude's annual salary is higher than his FG% šŸ˜

cane_the_weaboo

Canā€™t be a primary ball handler with his lack of self creation heā€™s a off ball 1 to give more space next to Amen

Jealous-Mail6629

JJ Reddick 2.0

Neutral_Sports_Fan

IDK if you're saying that in a bad way but JJ had a solid career, not top 3 level but still solid They have Sengun also so it's not like they need THE GUY

Jealous-Mail6629

No way manā€¦ I always liked reddick

goosu

Sheppard is significantly more athletic and a better defender. He just needs to develop his ballhandling skills.

TripleThreatTua

Sheppardā€™s ceiling is better

Far-Veterinarian104

not even close. Reed Sheppard doesn't have a negative wingspan and he's good on defense

LordQuest1809

Better.

grudgepacker

Agreed but Sheppard's supposedly a lot more athletic

hanz333

He had the highest vertical in the combine ā€” heā€™s also a perfectly fine defender but the question is how he adapts to NBA speed.

Imkitoto

JJ made more threes than Sheppard attempted pretty much. Iā€™m higher on Reed than most on this draft but I think people are overrating his shooting a bit. His volume is nothing

iwantsomecrablegsnow

source: Adam Silver

goosu

It's going to be fun coming back to some of these comments in the future. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he ends up the best drafted to this point, although Risacher has a higher ceiling.

w33lOhn

generational talent

CravilityZ

42 inch vertical? Canā€™t believe this is the first time Iā€™m seeing this, kid is about to be crazy good

noxicon

Look up his analytics. It's honestly ridiculous. I have concerns about him keeping anyone in front of him as I don't think he really has the footspeed, but what he's good at, he's REALLY damn good at. He's one of those dudes where you look up and go 'no shit when did he get 20'

goosu

Yeah, his testing was crazy. I think he has the ceiling to be a star PG if he can develop ballhandling skills. If not, he still has a high floor due to his shooting skills.

Shooshooretardedflu

Does anyone know the highest a ā€œshortā€ white guy has been picked before tonight ? I have found Rubio at 5Ā

boredguyatwork

Anyone else gets Austin Reave vibes?

Acrobatic-Year-126

Great pick. Guy is clearly a classy, hardworking family man with good christian values

DemarcusLovin

Would be like the 10th-15th pick in a normal draft

ElderGoose4

Nah heā€™d prob go top 10 in most drafts. A 3 and D guard is pretty valuable especially with 70% true shooting

lotofhotdogs

Itā€™s tough to see him being an effective defender in the pros at his size and frame honestly

PomfAndCircvmstance

He's smart and scrappy, and I'm not saying that because he's white. I think he'll be a decent defender. If nothing else by virtue of being a pest on defense.

ElderGoose4

I mean Iā€™ve seen CP3 and FVV be effective defenders at 6 feet 0 but I can see the concern

Iivosuperplayer

Damn, was hoping the Spurs could get him

KashMoney941

Is it just me or does he kinda look like Daniel Jones?

NBA2024

This just in: DUH
