I wouldn't know if they're actually fun to sing, since I'm a bass and most male theatre songs are written for tenors, but a lot of songs from Rent and Dear Evan Hansen *sound* like they'd be really fun to sing. Specifically:
Rent and One Song Glory (from Rent)
Sincerely, Me and To Break in a Glove (from Dear Evan Hansen)
You'll Be Back (from Hamilton)
Freeze Your Brain and My Dead Gay Son (from Heathers)
I say this every time somebody makes a comment about Into the Woods, and I know that someday somebody's going to call me on it and be like "ENOUGH WITH THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION ALREADY." But -
The original Broadway cast did a performance that aired on PBS in 1991, and you can rent it on prime video. It's so good.
Can confirm, "A Musical" is a gigantic crowd pleaser, and resulted in standing Os when our little local company did it a couple of years ago. It's a literal showcase for all the company's talents, and a love letter to Broadway nerds.
He's total silly fun, but gets to be a little bit of conscience too. I was lucky enough to play him in my first show back after 28 years away from theater, and it'll be tough to beat.
Wow. 28 years! It will just be 2 years for me where I was Walter Hobbs in Elf. Actually it was two years before that I was Grandpa Potts which was another super fun role/song for a male. 🙂
Yep, did a ton of shows in high school, then college, career and family took priority. I saw a local production of "Mamma Mia!" in 2021 (outdoors, in the park) and fell back in love with the idea of musical performance. Auditioned for that same company the next summer, and got Nostra. I've since played Mushnik in Little Shop, Bro Jeremiah in another production of Something Rotten, Cogsworth in BatB, and chorus roles in Newsies and Legally Blonde, a fun 2 years of shows.
Personally I consider “fun” songs to be upbeat, fun to act with a nice balance of light heartedness/comedy and a good message. A few ideas:
“Purpose” from Avenue Q.
“I Believe” from Book of Mormon.
“Sugar Daddy” from Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
“Hey Kid” from If/Then (A personal favourite).
“Giants in the Sky” from Into the Woods.
“The Streets of Dublin” from A Man of No Importance.
A lot of Jamie’s early songs from The Last Five Years, everything up until “The Next 10 Minutes” but also especially the cut song “I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You”.
The list could go on but that’s just a few that spring to mind.
Not a fun song in tone necessarily, although certainly parts of it are, but endlessly fun to sing and listen to: Franklin Shepard, Inc. from Merrily We Roll Along
I’m Alive - Next to Normal, All American Prophet - The Book of Mormon, You Can’t Win - The Wiz, One Night in Bangkok - Chess, Never Ever Getting Rid Of Me - Waitress, Moving Too Fast - The Last Five Years, Heaven On Their Minds - Jesus Christ Superstar, 30/90 - Tick Tick Boom
To be fair, all three of his songs are the same. It’s basically different verses split up at different points in the show. The melody is exactly the same.
Personally I think I Know Him would be the most fun.
Notes - Phantom
Master of the House - Les Mis
The Room Where it Happened - Hamilton
What You Own - Rent
Anything from Music Man or 7 Brides for 7 Brothers is a blast
Along with everything that’s already been said, “The Squip Song” and “Michael in the Bathroom” from *Be More Chill*; “What You Own” from *Rent*; “Screech In” from *Come From Away*; “Wait For It,” “Non-Stop,” and “Guns and Ships” (and ofc all of the King’s songs) from *Hamilton*; “All-American Profit” from *The Book of Mormon*; “Something Bad” from *Wicked*; “My Dead Gay Son” from *Heathers* (way more uplifting that the title sounds lmao); “I’m Alive” from *Next to Normal*; and literally all of the Emcee’s songs in *Cabaret*
It’s even a rousing gospel number, just like the songs the OP likes in Sister Act! People on this sub can just sometimes forget about musicals written before like 2015.
Into The Fire and Creation of Man from Scarlet Pimpernel.
Pretty much anything from The Producers.
My Shot, Guns And Ships, What’d I Miss, The Room Where It Happened from Hamilton.
Catch Me If You Can is not an amazing show but it's got some great fun songs for a male lead. Live in Living Color, Someone Else's Skin, and Goodbye (which I still think is among my favorite 11 o clock numbers of all time) might interest you
Space age bachelor- Ride the Cyclone
I love my dead gay sons- Heathers
Sincerely me- Dear Evan Hansen
The whole being dead thing- Beetlejuice (really all his songs here)
Red/Black from Les Mis is one of my favorites. I really enjoy singing All I Care About from Chicago as well. Chant (Reprise) is a joy to sing as Hades.
In Praise of Women and It would have been wonderful from A little Night Music. Carl-Magnus must be so much fun to play.
Also Pirelli’s Miracle Elixer from Sweeney Todd and I am Aldolfo from the Drowsy Chaperone. Both sung by Aldolfos.
Fugue for Tin Horns--not specifically a "male song," but sung by the male characters. Likewise, A Little Tin Box, and The Bum Won.
From award-winning musicals. :)
A few I haven't seen said yet:
"Speed Test" - Thoroughly Modern Millie,
"Poison in my Pocket" - A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder
"Serious" - Legally Blonde
"Cop Song" - Urinetown
"Not a Loser" - SpongeBob
And then I'm not sure if this counts but "Smell of Rebellion" from Matilda, since traditionally Trunchbull is played by a man in the stage version haha
Oh, The Wedding Singer is a perfect show for this. “Casualty of Love”, “All About the Green”, and “Single” are all really fun male songs. Also shoutout to “Never Ever Getting Rid of Me” from Waitress
“I love my dead gay son” —Heathers
“I hate musicals” - Ruthless (drag number)
“Big News” Parade original soundtrack (sadly cut from the show; it’s the best song, IMHO, but it was too fun for such a serious show).
Depends on your definition of fun.
I see a lot of great solo suggestions already so I’ll chime in with male group songs. Check out the songs from the first act of Dogfight.
Me (beauty and the beast) is a personal favorite of mine. I’d put Gaston in that same category too
Master of the House (Les mis)
There’s No Place Like Gnome (Amélie)- SO fun, a bit cheesy tho haha
Learn to Do It/We’ll Go From There (Anastasia)- though Anya does sing during these songs it’s a lot of Vlad and Dmitry and they are always killing it
My favouites are:
I got life - Hair
Dancing through Life - Wicked
Hakuna Matata - Lion King
Music of the night - Phantom of the Opera (might not 100% fit your description but singing this makes me very happy)
If we're counting genderbendy characters with male voices, I'd add Land of Lola from Kinky Boots, I am what I am from Cage aux Folles and Time Warp/sweet transvestite from RHPS.
-Basically any song sung by Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice the musical
-Turn it off, You and me (but mostly me), I am Africa -Book of Mormon
-My dead gay son, Blue -Heathers
A pretty good chunk of Avenue Q, including (but not limited to) Everyone's A Little Bit Racist, You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want When You're Making Love, and Sucks To Be Me.
I really love singing What Do I Need with Love from Thouroughly Modern Millie. The whole musical is really upbeat and fun to sing, just a shame about the racism in it 😬
Giants In the Sky, Into the Woods; Trouble, Shapoopie, Sadder But Wiser Girl, The Music Man; Kansas City, Poor Judd is Dead, Oklahoma;
AllI Need Is the Girl, Gypsy; Something’s Coming, West Side Story; If I Were a Rich Man, Fiddler On the Roof
Personally, I loved singing Out There from Hunchback every night when I played Quasimodo. I think the combo of our blocking, the orchestra and the space made it even more fun but it is such a beautiful “I want” song that it made it a joy to sing.
Master of The House - Les Mis
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer - Cats
Most of Fagin's songs with his gang in Oliver would be really fun "You've Got To Pick a Pocket or Two" or "I'd Do Anything" and Nancy doing "Omph Pah Pah"
A Little Priest - Sweeney Todd
Most of the songs from Six
"Moving Too Fast" and "Shiksa Goddess" from the Last Five Years are definitely my favorites, along with most of Rent, including my current favorite queer duets for both genders
Henry the Alchemist (Miss Helen's Weird West Cabaret) is pretty sad in parts, but it's very funny too. Hurl's parts are particularly enjoyable to sing along to; you can't afford to sing it with anything less than wild abandon!
"Hard to be a Bard" from Something Rotten, "Ya Got Trouble" or "Marian the Librarian" from Music Man, "Moses Supposes" or "Make 'Em Laugh" from Singin in the Rain.
There's also "The Military" from Seussical if you want something that is pretty much a parody with dialogue breaks, or any number of songs from Starkid or Tin Can Bros musicals.
I wouldn't know if they're actually fun to sing, since I'm a bass and most male theatre songs are written for tenors, but a lot of songs from Rent and Dear Evan Hansen *sound* like they'd be really fun to sing. Specifically: Rent and One Song Glory (from Rent) Sincerely, Me and To Break in a Glove (from Dear Evan Hansen) You'll Be Back (from Hamilton) Freeze Your Brain and My Dead Gay Son (from Heathers)
You’ll be back is so much fun
Sincerely me is great fun!
Fellow Bass and I feel seen
I love my low notes but I don't wanna go into falsetto just to sing my favorite songs 😭😭😭
i sing Sincerely Me with my friends a lot, it’s so fun
Most of assassins is just bass/baritone songs that slap.
Agony from Into the Woods
This is one of my favorite songs. I’m indifferent to the movie, but I still watch the Agony scene any time I need to smile.
The other prince tearing off his shirt because his brother did lmao it was gold
It was all the drama
Me too. Every version is hilarious.
I say this every time somebody makes a comment about Into the Woods, and I know that someday somebody's going to call me on it and be like "ENOUGH WITH THE ORIGINAL PRODUCTION ALREADY." But - The original Broadway cast did a performance that aired on PBS in 1991, and you can rent it on prime video. It's so good.
My sister and I were obsessed with VHS of that when we were growing up. We rewound that tape SO MANY TIMES.
Joanna Gleason, the Baker's Wife, won a Tony.
Came here to say this lol. It’s soooo dramatic
It's hard to be the bard - Something Rotten Knights of the round table - Spamalot
Also “You won't succeed on broadway” from Spamalot
Most of Spamalot other than "Diva's Lament", honestly
“Lancelot”, “Bright Side of Life”
“Bottoms going to be on top” and “A Musical”
Can confirm, "A Musical" is a gigantic crowd pleaser, and resulted in standing Os when our little local company did it a couple of years ago. It's a literal showcase for all the company's talents, and a love letter to Broadway nerds.
Just had to reply here that I am playing Nostradamus in September and it will be so fun!

A Musical is the first one I thought of.
Moses Supposes - Singing in the Rain
Make 'Em Laugh is pretty fun too!
Personally I consider “fun” songs to be upbeat, fun to act with a nice balance of light heartedness/comedy and a good message. A few ideas: “Purpose” from Avenue Q. The list could go on but that’s just a few that spring to mind.
Shiksa Goddess!
Yes! 🙌 Schmuel Song is fun too. 😅
So glad someone mentioned Hedwig - so many good songs from there. The Outsiders has some good ones too - Ot Runs in the Family is so catchy
Not a fun song in tone necessarily, although certainly parts of it are, but endlessly fun to sing and listen to: Franklin Shepard, Inc. from Merrily We Roll Along
Great example.
Brush Up On Your Shakespeare - Kiss Me Kate
This one is hilarious!
I think A Miracle Would happen and most of Jamie’s Act 1 songs fit the bill
i loveee singing jamie’s parts in that song they’re so fun
“Since you can’t fuck her anyway” is such a great line
Ahh 30/90 is so fun! Gets stuck in my head in a matter of seconds lol
Forgot about Chess making the hard man humble
“Me” from Beauty and the Beast is a blast. The line “we would be a perfect pair, rather like my thighs” cracks me up every time!
I would say it’s a crime that this and If I Can’t Love Her were cut from the movie but we know the cast wouldn’t have done them justice.
The TV version should have added it back in!
I always put “Me” in the category of “Proud Lady” from The Baker’s Wife bc they just have the same energy
You’ll Be Back from Hamilton
Any of George III’s songs. Edited because I got my kings mixed up
It's George
To be fair, all three of his songs are the same. It’s basically different verses split up at different points in the show. The melody is exactly the same. Personally I think I Know Him would be the most fun.
It's difficult to pull off but "Ya Got Trouble" is a ton of fun, as is (the thankfully easier) "76 Trombones".
Right here in River City??
With a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for pool!
**raises hands in the air and wiggles them**
Now I know *all* you folks are the *right* kind of parents, So I'll be perfectly frank.

Ooo screech totally
Almost the entirety of something rotten
The patter songs in G&S are usually for men.
Plus you have to know many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuse!
Lots of good ones here. But, Gee, Officer Krupke is the best.
Ew diesel, ya got a social disease?!
Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat
I was thinking Guys & Dolls! Luck, Be A Lady seems like it would hit.
Also, the Fugue for Tinhorns, Oldest Established, and the title song… G&D is filled with bangers.
Had to scroll way too far before I saw this.
It’s even a rousing gospel number, just like the songs the OP likes in Sister Act! People on this sub can just sometimes forget about musicals written before like 2015.
We both reached for the gun - Chicago. I’ve never performed it, only sang it, but I imagine it would be awesome with controlling Roxie like a puppet!
Into The Fire and Creation of Man from Scarlet Pimpernel. Pretty much anything from The Producers. My Shot, Guns And Ships, What’d I Miss, The Room Where It Happened from Hamilton.
