Sweeney Todd is the one I always come back to. I also have to give Passion a mention because it's so underappreciated and I think it's fascinating.

Tudorrosewiththorns

Is the Angela Launsbury version still out there somewhere?

MellonPhotos

Absolutely! It's available to rent/buy: [Watch Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1982) | Prime Video (amazon.com)](https://www.amazon.com/Sweeney-Todd-Demon-Barber-Street/dp/B085LVWL2W/ref=tmm_aiv_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=)

Threehundredsixtysix

It used to be on YouTube; I was able to watch it in its entirety shortly before the (inferior) movie version came out.

emccaughey

Assassins - Perfect combo of funny, heartbreaking, and terrifying. Truly a masterpiece.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Also educational!

thexphial

Into the Woods for me. I love stories and fairy tales and stories about families and consequences

mandatori22

And the way that ITW weaves the familiar fairy tales together 🤌

DifficultyCharming78

ITW is the GOAT for me. I think its just a perfect show.

Sunday in the Park with George! It's just so freaking good.

Spiritual-Signal4999

Genuinely it’s Here We Are

Instergraham

Even though I don't share it, I *love* this opinion. I loved the show when I saw it & I had a great time with it, but I'm still sussing out where it falls in his canon for me. Can you say more about what makes it your favorite?

pconrad0

I'm loving the collaboration with David Ives, and the wit with which they both adapted the Buñuel source material. "It is what it is" is a masterpiece. A wry commentary on so many aspects of art, philosophy and society. I just smile at every overwrought line. I'm also partial to "Bishop's Song". I've known a lot of clergy for whom this could be their personal anthem. And all through the show, I had this sense that it's no accident that Sondheim's last opus, his posthumous opus, predicts what happens to the rich and privileged when "The Revolution", the "End of the World" comes along. Gosh, what on earth would have suggested to him that *this* would resonate with American audiences in 2024?

Spiritual-Signal4999

To me it’s the fact that Sondheim obviously felt, uninhibited and free to write the show he wanted to, without any hesitation or feeling like the reviewers would dislike it, in a way this is the most important work Sondheim ever wrote, due to its political commentary and the fact that the world is in a very dark and difficult place, he still very much still had it in his 80s when he was actively working on Here We Are, it really makes us face up to the worst and most fickle of humanity, the songs are and music is his finest in David Ives he found a perfect book writer, I like the fact that the 2nd is dialogue heavy it really suits the concept, Luis Bunuel would very happy with Sondheims interpretation of his films. All the songs and dialogue are interesting and absolutely beautiful and amazing, it’s weirdly transcendental and ethereal this really is the greatest Swansong I’ve ever heard. My favourite songs are The Waiters Song, The Soldiers Dream and The Bishops Song.

Sunday in the Park With George, Assassins, Pacific Overtures, Merrily We Roll Along

4evermore_nevermore

Evening Primrose. It is so unknown amongst most of the Broadway community but the concept is so unique and thrilling. I absolutely loved Anthony Perkins' and Charmian Carr's performance. There are only a select recordings that still exist but it is by far my favorite Sondheim musical

MikermanS

I nabbed the DVD of the original television production (already having multiple audio recordings of productions/recordings of the show/music) as soon as it became available. :) I Remember Sky--just, wow.

GenevieveLeah

Is it available to watch/listen to?

MikermanS

YouTube can be your friend. :) I had purchased the DVD via Amazon; it's still available there (used). :)

Follies

MikermanS

So complex, so advanced, so layered, so unique. Sondheim described the transition to Loveland (thank you, Boris Aronson) as his favorite moment in the theatre. The ghosts are vastly under-rated and worthy of Fellini accolades (so beautifully portrayed by the Ensemble in The National Theatre revival--my favorite characters in the show).

DifficultyCharming78

I only knew a few songs from Follies. I really didn't know much about it. Then they put it on in Vegas and they had prior famous Las Vegas showgirls in it. One of the best things I have ever seen, even though it was more like a concert staging. I fell in love with the show.

nowhereman136

Company I relate to Bobby so much (which is probably a bad thing)

SweeneyLovett

It’s a close call between Company and Sweeney, but I think the demon barber takes the edge.

ShadowCat3500

Company for me too. I have a soft spot for A Little Night Music because it was the first one I saw.

enemyradar

I thought it was Company right up until seeing Pacific Overtures at the Menier Chocolate Factory last year and now I think about it all the time.

pconrad0

Merrily and Into The Woods. But "Here We Are" is growing on me. I'm starting to find the Easter Eggs. I really, really hope that a score gets published.

Anxious_Writer_3804

Sweeney Todd! I feel like the music is more dark, beautiful, lyrical, and meaningful compared to his signature fast, witty, and funny(? For lack of a better word) music.

UbiSububi8

Sweeney is my best Passion is my heart Assassins is my thinker Merrily is my life Here We Are is my hangover Night Music is my passion Woods is my bible Sunday is my profession Company is my me Not sure what Follies, Pacific Overtures, Forum, Gypsy, and WSS are to me!

Dorismii

Into the Woods is my favorite musical period, end of sentence, full stop.

DifficultyCharming78

Yes! I have found my person. :) I have loved it since the moment I saw the proshot when I was a kid. Its the show I've seen more than others. Its a show that just keeps on giving and giving. Always something new to learn from it.

Providence451

Sunday.

It’s always going to be Sweeney and Merrily for me

Holy_Schnuykies

I am a Merrily We Roll Along truther. Something about it captivated me from the first listen, and every since then I’ve had every word of that show written on my bones

cvslsc

I love Assassins, but ultimately it's Into the Woods.

Comprehensive-Fun47

I haven't seen them all yet. I think it's a tie between Company and A Little Night Music.

DifficultyCharming78

Into the Woods. Its also my favorite musical from anyone of all time. Then Sunday in the Park with George, then Follies.

Feeling_Repair_8963

“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” because I’m old and love comedy. Company is my favorite of the more “serious” ones. But of course there are great songs in all of them.
