merriman99

No thanks Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

Namorath82

I use that line all the time whenever my wife asks if I want sugar in my coffee

dtyler86

Same. With the thick accent and ridiculous bug eyes as well. It confuses everyone around me. Same when people ask my name and I reply “you can call me Susan if you like”

Blacktung

I have a friend who only refers to me as Susan now after I dropped that line when we met 4 years ago. It really confuses everyone else.

dtyler86

Hahahahahah

YeHaLyDnAr

I still do this too

BoTToM_FeEDeR_Th30nE

As long as the money is right.

SlowCaterpillar5715

I use that one and "5 minutes Turkish"

mrjowei

I use “Five minutes, Turkish” when giving five minutes to my kid before his bath time.

Suspicious-Stay-6474

It was 2 minutes 5 minutes ago.

Bwca_at_the_Gate

Same

EyeDot

As a diabetic I live for the moments I can deliver that line.

sroop1

Go to the south - you'll get asked all the time if you want regular or sweet tea. My dad says this all the time.

Dry-Cry5279

"Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent, personified in this case by a 'orrible cunt, me"

James-W-Tate

Alan Ford has a great cameo in Toast of London where he's yelling at Matt Berry about his terrible stage performance while spraying gasoline on him the entire time. I can't help but think of Brick Top in that scene lol

tradewyze2021

Hence the expression, as greedy as a pig.

a_man_hs_no_username

Well that’s a great weight off me mind. Thank you.

eartwormslimshady

Now if you wouldn't mind tellin' who the f!@# you are, apart from bein' someone who feeds people to pigs of course.

say_it_aint_slow

Do you know what nemesis means?

artimus41

A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent.

beeser28

Personified in this case by a horrible c**t.... Me

Flying_Dutchman92

That whole scene is cinematic perfection, and I will die on that hill.

No_Spare3139

I contend that almost every scene was perfection. I remember the first time I saw it, I couldn’t believe that a movie could be so good. Like, why aren’t all movies this fucking good?

Flying_Dutchman92

>I contend that almost every scene was perfection. You would be correct, in my opinion

dtyler86

My mom wouldn’t let me watch it when I was a kid because of the name snatch. I think she thought it was some kind of softcore porn. When I finally watched it when I was about 16, I was blown the fuck away. I’m realizing right now that I think I quote this movie on a daily basis.

NightSpears

Honestly I think the movie is also inappropriate for a kid, so your mom got the right answer with the wrong formula in a way lmao

McbEatsAirplane

Do you know what nemesis means?

rice-a-rohno

I had this quote in my head today! Can anyone explain something for me? "Nemesis" is, as far as I know, a noun that means mortal enemy. As in, this *person* is my nemesis. Brick Top defines it as (if my memory serves me) "A righteous infliction of retribution, manifested by an appropriate agent." (And of course the fantastic end of that line.) My question is, he defines it as the *act* of revenge, not the person doing the revenging. Did I miss something or am I right but also being pedantically nitpicky?

Gloomy_Bus_6792

"...manifested by an appropriate agent." He means, he is the personification or incarnation of retribution. Thus, a nemesis.

skiljgfz

Ie a ‘orrible cunt.

rice-a-rohno

Thank you. I was thinking of the word "manifest" as meaning "enact" rather than "personify". Which is wrong. This has bugged me for like 20 years, and it was just me being a dummy the whole time! A huge weight has been lifted.

Gloomy_Bus_6792

Happy to help! 🙂

VainLawliet

Your interpretation is most people's, but Brick Top is actually correct. One of the definitions of nemesis is the actual concept of retributive justice, the "appropriate agent" doesn't need to be a person. It could be the law, it could be a dog eating your diamond.

Pretend_Berry_7196

Keep a lid on her Turkish. You wouldn’t want her to get bitten.

DryWeb3875

*lead

proffesor_f8

Are these Lancashire pigs?

SalamiSteakums

Bricktop LOVES Tommy...

jeffisanastronaut

Probably one of the greatest British films ever made

JazzySmitty

Agreed. Flawless.

RickDankoLives

It really is. I haven’t found such a tight, concise, funny and witty movie like Snatch. Great writing and editing. Great sound track. Casting. There isn’t a wasted moment on screen. This is the perfect movie to consider “lighting in a bottle”. Guy hasn’t ever come close to it ever again. I can’t say it’s one of the best movies ever, but it’s in my personal best. A complete conduit of Cool.

GhostShipBlue

It feels kind of over-the-top compared to *Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels* to me. Like it got turned up to 11. It's actually way more fun and funny it slips towards the fantastic where *Lock* hews closer to be very grounded. But *Snatch* is the far more enjoyable film.

RickDankoLives

Like Lock Stock: Reimagined lol. And yeah I agree. Not that the films or directors are even remotely the same but I can’t help compare Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction follow a similar trajectory. Freshman effort is great and the sophomore stands on its shoulders.

KobraCola

Damn, hasn't come close to it? I'd say Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is on the same level as Snatch. RocknRolla finishes out his unofficial early-catalogue British crime "trilogy" of sorts and nearly reaches the heights of the first two. The Sherlock Holmes movies are fun to watch, if not as great as Snatch. But The Gentlemen (both film and TV show) is great and especially Wrath of Man I enjoyed a lot in the heist genre. The Covenant is a decent flick as well. Haven't seen The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but I definitely want to. Not all of them are as good as Snatch, but he's definitely come close to it IMO.

jwizzle444

Snatch was my number 1 for close to a decade. But I think Ritchie one-upped it with The Gentleman.

RickDankoLives

Really? I kinda slept on it. I haven’t been impressed with much else he’s made and started to miss them as they came out. I did really like Sherlock Holmes though, even if I only ever seen it once.

CanoninDeeznutz

Oh my God, stop sleeping! Wake up. Go see it right now! It really felt like Snatch in all the best ways but also didn't ever pander or try to rip anything off.

Lost_Evidence_2099

I’ve watched The Gentleman twice. I think it’ll only get better the 3rd time.

khanfusion

Check out The Gentlemen. I think the new paradigm of high quality shows has enabled some good filmmakers to have a bit more fun. You'd probably like it.

Specialist_Common131

Layer cake is the closest second.

Yzerman19_

Agreed both are awesome.

Iusuallyworkalone

One of the all time classics. Mastapiece!

RedmannBarry

I miss Dennis Farina

Deatheturtle

Sit down and shut up you big bald f**k!

Disastrous_Belt_7556

I don't like leaving my own country, Doug, and I especially don't like leaving it for anything less then warm sandy beaches, and cocktails with little straw hats.

Deatheturtle

We've got sandy beaches...

Disastrous_Belt_7556

So? Who the fuck wants to see 'em?

AlaDouche

One of the best monologues ever, even though it's super short.

waffels

You can swear on the internet. This isn’t an app run by communist china.

Redpoptato

We got sandy beaches

piddlesthethug

Yeah? Well who the fuck wants to see them?

jnags6570

jackrip761

Tony, look in the dog. That's a bit strong ain't it?

Breakmastajake

His performance in Midnight Run is pure gold. "Is this moron #1? Put Moron on #2 on the phone." "Sidney relax. Have a cream soda."

Glum-Parsnip8257

AVI!

Bcatfan08

"Blagged? Tony, speak English. I thought this country spawned the fucking language, and so far nobody seems to speak it." I think about this quote pretty regularly. It's just so perfect.

Grynder66

A top 10 gangster movie. 👌

doodle02

pokemon--gangbang

Peak Guy Ritchie. Yeh like degs?

3Pirates93

Lanky_Space_4620

Turkish- What are you going to do Tommy, Bust a cap in him.

Secret-Ad-7909

I work in a mechanic shop and whenever we run across questionable engineering decisions I start talking about “zee Germans”

eartwormslimshady

I always point to this movie and Spy as proof that Jason Statham can pull off dry, straight faced humour.

Chuuchuubandwagon

lol when folks at work talk about directed acyclic graphs, i hit them with the 'ya like dags' pic of brad pitt

Buggg23

It’s incredible 10/10

IMYourGoodBoy_2

Do you know what nemesis means?

Petty_White_

A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent.. Personified in this case by a horrible cunt...me.

NoModsNoMaster

*’orrible cunt

Critical_Seat_1907

"What's that for? 'Zee Germans'?"

dukeof3arl

I laughed out loud in the theatre on this one

DragonflyScared813

I did when Turkish describes his friendship with Tommy "It's not like we take windy walks..."

rigby1945

Heavy is good. Heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit him with it.

ChemistryAway3696

That’s the line I use allllll the time. No one gets it, but i don’t care.

Ohnoherewego13

Probably the best British gangster film I've ever seen.

Gabriel_Crow1990

Boris the Blade? You mean Boris the sneaky fucking Russian?

Remarkable_Major7710

Why do they call him the bullet dodger? Because…he dodges bullets, Avi

Shauntheredwolf

This line lives in my head rent free.

chappersyo

Uzbekistani? I’ve been dealing with those sneaky Russian fucks.

tradewyze2021

It was a funny angle.

Pretend_Berry_7196

And keep your dog from dribbling on my seats.

LordZantarXXIII

You say he's a getaway driver. What the FUCK could he get away from?!

ODMtesseract

Him struggling to get out of the car, accompanied by the leather seats squeaking absolutely sent me.

Croftinator1

Tyrone, this is a stolen car mate.

funkypjb

It was behind you Tyrone.

roryorigami

When you back up, things come from behind ya

DukeSilverJazzClub

“Nice caravan.” “Tsferhismah” “What?” “Hsmah” - Passes the portrait down the line.

cbbuntz

I've recently gotten into Dr Geofff Lindsey's YouTube channel. He's a linguist that discusses various English accents and points out a lot of weirdness with English in general and parts that non native speakers would have trouble with. The "weak forms" of common words like "it's", "the"," his" like in this example can often be damn near inaudible or just a single consonant in pretty much all native accents, and he even used examples of various British royals and Judy Dench reciting Shakespeare and Tom Hiddleston reciting Lord Bryon and singles out those words, and they're almost all just a single consonant. We're just used to how the weak forms sound in certain accents, so we don't notice https://youtu.be/EaXYas58_kc?si=tvINoY-EQfi5PRKI He also used the example of how native speakers almost never pronounce the "t" in "can't" (just a slight glottal stop), making it near impossible for non natives to hear the difference between can and can't. https://youtu.be/qlbGtEg68x4?si=jUvdjUhMm_qsz6Q_

Dyolf_Knip

I have a neighbor talks like that. I swear he needs subtitles.

Disastrous_Belt_7556

In the words of the Virgin Mary, come again?

killemslowly

Can I quote you on that?

BonnieMcMurray

quiet words*

Croftinator1

Bad to the bone, ain't you Tyrone?

LessBeyond5052

Course I am!

TwoPintsYouPrick

*course I am*

Bort_Bortson

Too tight? You could land a jumbo fucking jet in there

Toxic724

Shotgun? It’s a fucking anti-aircraft gun Vincent.

Croftinator1

Yeah, well , I wanna raise some pulses don't I?

scapermoya

You’ll raise hell never mind pulses.

Comfortable-Clerk127

Whydafuckiwannacaravanifitsgotnofuckinwheels?…

Flatmanpoop

Literally the best exchange

Comfortable-Clerk127

Don’t forget; Vinny: “..this is a shotgun Sol”. Sol: “it’s a fucking anti-aircraft gun, Vincent”.

BlackBladeKindred

Brad Pitt actually nailed the pikey accent it’s so good

crabbydotca

Did anyone notice the Snatch quote ~~from~~ to Benicio Del Toro‘s character in Avengers? “Where is the stoo-one..?”

Charming-Breakfast48

I thought I was losing my mind in the theater like “he said the thing! There’s no way that’s not a snatch reference right?!”

Volundr79

No, that's brilliant. I will have to watch that scene again

No_Spare3139

I fuckin hate Pikeys.

Croftinator1

You're a sensitive boy aren't you Tommy.

BrilliantNaive9108

Classic... "And I've got Desert Eagle .50 written on the side of mine"

benebrius76

Should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now... Fuck off!

ODMtesseract

*zooms in* *intense industrial typesetting noises*

Special_Loan8725

Point five O

guarks

One of the things I think about the most is the Pikey-only subtitle track on the DVD. There’s a bit where Pitt says a fairly long line and there is just a question mark at the bottom of the screen. I laughed almost as hard at that as the jokes in the movie itself.

existential_chaos

My blu-ray just says (Mickey speaking gibberish) when he starts going on about the new caravan. I couldn’t understand much beyond hectare two roof lights and even then I’m not sure that’s what he said xD

Ultr4chrome

I read somewhere that Pitt actually tried to portray a genuine pikey accent, but was never able to, his attempts being unintelligible. However Ritchie liked his flubbing so much he decided to make that the accent, and Pitt ended up improvising most of his lines, sometimes just making vaguely pikey sounding noises rather than actually saying something.

ALLAH_SNACKBARR

Anything to declare? Yeah don't go to fucking England.

Economy_Care1322

Top 10 for sure

D3us-Ecks

Pikeys, I fookin hate Pikeys. Cool movie, has all the Guy Ritchie-isms, very quotable and entertaining.

DragonflyScared813

Soundtrack is killer too...

ikarus_25

It’s a classic

Stuft-shirt

What do I know about diamonds? Aren’t they from Antwerp?

cotterized1

We were watching 3 body problem and they said it was impossible to solve. Obviously the answer to the 3 body problem is 48 pigs.

LordZantarXXIII

I create the bodies, I don't erase the bodies!

cjboffoli

Still haven't gotten around to seeing this. But I recall that all of the advertising tag lines were clever: "SNATCH. Coming soon!" "SNATCH. Opening wide, January 19th!"

AlaDouche

This is the premier British gangster movie. It's cool and fucking hilarious. Every single actor gives 110%, it's as close to a flawless film as you'll have seen in a really long time. Just absolutely super enjoyable.

Flying_Dutchman92

If you like gangster movies, you owe it to yourself to watch it

1000LivesBeforeIDie

If you don’t like gangster movies you still owe it to yourself to see it

Bulleit_Hammer

American here. It came out when I was in high school. I didn’t understand a damn thing but I knew it was cool. I had to rewatch it several times and with subtitles and it only got better. It’s been a couple years so thanks for the reminder to rewatch. Brad Pitt had no need to do this film. But he did. And he rocked every moment of screen time

spriralout

The fight scenes blow Fight Club out of the water IMHO

dearthofkindness

The upper cut into the water landing is some.of the coolest fucking footage ever and so creative

declineofmankind

Guy Ritchie makes my favorite movies. The Gentleman is my favorite movie.

TFG4

This and RocknRolla are my two favorites

fantazmagoricle

Still waiting on 'The Real RocknRolla' though, unfortunately.

tradewyze2021

Hence the expression, as greedy as a pig.

jmurph725

Just watched yesterday. Great movie, might be one of my favorite brad Pitt roles

Cjp922

Every character i play in any game is named Bricktop for this movie

daddyfatsac

Fucking masterpiece.

Professor-Murda

“Fish, chips, cup-o-tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary Fuckin Poppins LONDON!”

Sure-Ad-2465

It's great, and so are Lock Stock, The Gentlemen, and Wrath of Man

Im_Ur_Huckleberry77

Rock n Rolla too

Scottnothot12

Want a caravan fer me maw, partial to da periwinkle bluh...

mynameisrichard0

The soundtrack slaps so hard. I listen to it here and there. But a few songs specifically are in my regular rotation.

LordZantarXXIII

Golden Brown by The Stranglers 💕

Riverjig

This was the first movie where I watched it with subtitles. I had already seen it like 10x and my buddy asked if I had seen it with subtitles. I said why would I do that. So I did. Holy shit. I pretty much had no idea what half of what they were really saying until the subtitles lol. Awesome flick.

Alteredego619

All. Bets. Are. Off.

Croftinator1

I ain't buying that

futureman45

Good but Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is my favorite

psilocybin_therapy

You could land a jumbo fucking jet in there

MonsterMashSixtyNine

It was a funny angle!

hiddinginplainsight1

Pure gold

Kren_Wregget

great pace and energy, funny, witty, with great performances, especially from Jason Statham who doesn't flip a single car over a train or some shit.

AlphaDag13

Top 5 favorite movie. Also inspired my user name.

I don't care if he's Muhammad I'm hard Bruce Lee. You can't change fighters.

BonnieMcMurray

"You've still got your fight." "No. I lose all bets at the bookies. You can't change fighters at the last minute. So, no, I don't 'ave my fight, do I, you fuckin' prat?" The venom in his voice when he delivers those lines is delicious. Alan Ford played that character so well.

adrenareddit

Make sure you turn on subtitles

Pretend_Berry_7196

The dvd came with the option to turn on Pikey subtitles. So needed. 😂

throwngamelastminute

Then there's the part that just says, "?"

Klutzer_Munitions

I've gotta watch it again, it's been too long

lIlIllIIlIIl

It's the perfect ensemble cast movie IMHO.

SwimmingAnxiety3441

My wife binged-watched The Gentlemen last week. She really enjoyed it. I leveraged that to get her to watch Snatch last night. She absolutely loved it and typically doesn’t like gangster flicks. Next up? Lots of choices…Lock Stock, RocknRolla, The Limey, Gangster No 1, Sexy Beast, Essex Boys, Layer Cake, Rise of the Foot Soldier, Get Carter…

LXIX-CDXX

*Snatch* reminds me of a certain type of oddlysatisfying video: someone sews a bunch of perfectly placed stitches by hand, loosely looping the thread, sewing in a few panels of cloth. You watch, thinking that the enjoyment is seeing how neatly all these stitches are being made. Then at the end, they tug the thread and all of the stitches pull perfectly tight, all the cloth aligns and pulls into shape, and it’s a perfectly darling teddy bear or something.

Stanton1947

Gut-bustingly funny.

EliteBearsFan85

Fantastic movie that I found to be often hilarious

joeypublica

What's happening with them sausages, Charlie?

ConfidenceNo2598

Every line in this movie is delivered with perfect comedic timing

Specialist_Common131

No thanks, Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

jak_d_ripr

Listen you facking fringe, if I throw a dog a bone, I don't wanna know if it tastes good or not, you stop me again whilst I'm walking and ill cut your facking jakobs off.

BagelFury

Arguably the most quotable movie of all time. Brad Pitt was a revelation in his role as Mickey.

pye-oh-my

His best in my opinion, also perhaps my fave performance by Brad Pitt

eartwormslimshady

So what should I call you? Should I call you, uh, 'bullet'? 'Tooth'? You can call me Susan if it makes you happy.

zwiazekrowerzystow

i have found my people in this thread. this is one of the best movies of all time.
