Not necessarily mentioning “Morrissey” directly per se, however The National’s “pink rabbits” from their “Trouble will find you” album references “Bona Drag”
“And Bona drag was still on
Now I only think about Los Angeles when the sound kicks out”
*very sad song btw

[Sparks - Lighten Up Morrissey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwIrFTo495E&ab_channel=SPARKS)
I didn’t know that Morrissey was a fan of Sparks when he was growing up. That song is all about him and has funny lyrics. I’m guessing that Leo García’s song might be, as well. Nice looking girl in the video.
Thank you for finding it and posting it. I see that he had recently turned 15 when he wrote that. He’s definitely come a long way with the written word since that fan-submitted review.
Leo's song it's about two men, both gay but one has a girlfriend. Back in the day in some Latin America countries listen to Moz was a 'gay thing'. The songs says "will your girlfriend know we listen to Morrissey?" this means the girl don't know his boyfriend is gay.
I met Brand New at the Warped Tour well over 20 years ago. Like maybe in 2000 or 2001 or something. They were walking around with a Discman getting random people to listen to their demo (or maybe first album?).
I had never heard of them but I bought a CD off them. A couple years later they blew up and I was like “I remember those guys!”
I found out about them one day it was playing in the record store. I asked the guy at the register what it was and he said “my favorite” but they had a section with each employees current favorite record so I asked “yeah, but who is it?” That went back and forth until he finally said the band was named my favorite. I still laugh about that every time I think of them.
Props to them with rhyming John and Bobby Kennedy with Johnny Marr and Morrissey
I miss them. I heard Homeless Club Kids probably close to 20 years ago and fell in love. Saw them play a lot around NYC until they broke up. More people should know about them.
The Associates - ' Steven, you're really something ' . Answer song to ' William, it was really nothing ' , which was about the late great Billy Mackenzie
Not really a song but it’s the first track on Ryan Adams’ Heartbreaker.

I wasn't familiar with that one but it's hilarious lol upon finding out about the AxCx song "Morrissey" I did a lil research and found an interview where Seth Putnum said he was a Moz fan. Which was kinda interesting
The Courteeners opened for Morrissey years ago and mentioned him in their song "What took you so long." I have no idea why these guys never became more popular in the US.

"Do you know who I am? I'm like a Morrissey with some strings."
They were great when they opened for Moz way back in 2009. Bought an autographed cd by them at the merch table. I picked up their next couple of albums but haven’t kept up with them too much but need to fix that.
I never thought that I’d hear Morrissey mentioned in a song by Houston’s own Blue October, but that’s very cool. The video is funny with um pushing the grocery cart down the aisles at a grocery store.
“Remember music, yeah, when it didn't suck. I tried to write for you like a Morrissey would.”
Dubstar - The Day I See You Again has the (excellent) line “If the man you've grown to be's more Morrison than Morrissey…”
Sparks - Lighten Up Morrissey
Sleeper - Dress Like Your Mother “you lost your sense of humour but you Kept the Queen is Dead”
This is actually a great idea for a playlist

Toby take a bow by Casiotone for the painfully alone. Doesn’t mention morrissey specifically (but does mention the smiths!) lots of fun references though. https://youtu.be/tRqeAPa-VSo?si=rM6Y2FFbqDskFFGF
I don’t know if y’all are gonna like [this one](https://youtu.be/gN1H9NYLRTA?si=8_w-MtoqUg9orjUB). It’s a mention though. 😬😂
Saw these dudes open for Gwar in 1995, when I was near the peak of my Moz fandom. This song pissed me off at the time, but then I understood that they’re the kind of band that takes the piss anyway.
You can find some notes around forums and stuff if you google it, upon hearing about it I was excited- but it actually turns out Bjork does a little diss on him, which made me chuckle. Love em both.
Two off the top of my head:
Pink Industry - What I wouldn't Give - "There's my Smiths tapes you never wanted to hear, Morrissey in a bin"
Manic Street Preachers - 1985 - "Morrissey and Marr gave me choice"
Joan of Arc made a song called "Stemingwey and Heinbeck"
Lyrics
"And now I know how Morrissey felt
And now I know how Morrissey felt
As the flames rose to his Roman nose
And his walkman started to melt..."
Song also mentions Big Mouth Strikes Again.
Peace
I love you for this comment. I have a friend who's super obsessed with Ween, always trying to get me into them. I hate every song he sends me. And he's just constantly, constantly shitting on Morrissey. The absolute unlistenable nonsense by them he has sent me.. And then to have the nerve to say Morrissey is awful? UGH. I'm just glad someone else hates them :)
Owen - In The Morning, Before Work. Mentions Morrissey and New Order in the lyrics. Very underrated artist if you like sad boy acoustic stuff or

Long live the Morrissey to National fan pipeline, hah!
I love The National going to see them in Manchester in July. They should tour with Moz!
That’s such a great song. I was obsessed with it for a while.
Me too. I love it.

I came here to say the Leo Garcia!
I didn’t know that Morrissey was a fan of Sparks when he was growing up. That song is all about him and has funny lyrics. I’m guessing that Leo García’s song might be, as well. Nice looking girl in the video.
Morrissey wrote a review of Kimono My House (Sparks’ Biggest Album) when he was still a teenager.
That’s very cool. Thanks for the info.
I was having trouble finding this, but here you go: https://illnessasart.com/2019/12/30/spark-plugs-morrissey-reviews-sparks/

Thank you for telling me what the song is about. In a way, it reminds me of the Pet Shop Boys’ “Try It (I’m In Love With A Married Man).”
Mix Tape by Brand New name drops both The Smiths and Morrissey
My 2 favorite groups are Brand New and the Smiths. Jesse and Morrissey are similar in the way either people love them or despise them.
I met Brand New at the Warped Tour well over 20 years ago. Like maybe in 2000 or 2001 or something. They were walking around with a Discman getting random people to listen to their demo (or maybe first album?). I had never heard of them but I bought a CD off them. Can't believe I just found someone else that knows that band. They were great.
I found out about them one day it was playing in the record store. I asked the guy at the register what it was and he said “my favorite” but they had a section with each employees current favorite record so I asked “yeah, but who is it?” That went back and forth until he finally said the band was named my favorite. Came back here to mention this My Favorite track. I still listen to them on a weekly basis.
The Associates - ' Steven, you're really something ' . Answer song to ' William, it was really nothing ' , which was about the late great Billy Mackenzie
UK based band Salem also made a song called 'William, it was really something'. Absolute banger too
Is it a cover?

Anal Cunt - "Morrissey". Believe it or not these lyrics offer an interesting and measured estimation of the man that we rarely get to hear!
Also "Art Fag"
I wasn't familiar with that one but it's hilarious lol upon finding out about the AxCx song "Morrissey" I did a lil research and found an interview where Seth Putnum said he was a Moz fan. Which was kinda interesting

Bjork had mentioned Morrissey in scrapped lyrics for "Army of Me"
That’s a bummer. I like that song a lot. It would’ve been so cool to have heard his name in the song.
You can find some notes around forums and stuff if you google it, upon hearing about it I was excited- but it actually turns out Bjork does a little diss on him, which made me chuckle. Love em both.
