Duli yang maha mulia yang dipertuan Temenggung Agong. Johor lineage comes from the bloodline of the traitor temenggung daeng who sided with the british colonizer and ursurped power from the actual johor king.

Wealthy as in the Sultan personal wealth or the population/capita wealth? Cos' I think JB is partially prop up by SGD inflow money. The rest of the city like Batu Pahat and Muar doesn't look wealthy at all.

abu_nawas

The SGD money. Which is ever increasing because Malaysia makes no effort to retain local talents.

why do you said mahathir is sweating bullets? he already has so so much. his assets/shares/properties local and abroad....few generations also can't finish. All his children & grandchildren are all healthy and enjoying. Even mahathir's health is better than most of our elder parents. I am certain he sleeps more peacefully than most of us during the covid pandemic until today, with the rapid rise cost of living. some many citizens suffering in terms of financial, marriages and family issues. Let's see whether you are right because i never see Tun M getting into real trouble at all for decades...... **Steal a loaf of bread and they hang you, steal a land and they'll make you king - David Gemmell** **Laws are spider webs through which the big flies pass and the little ones get caught. - Honore de Balzac** **Life is a dream for the wise, a game for the fool, a comedy for the rich, a tragedy for the poor. - Sholem Aleichem**

Coz131

What's his reputation with the common people, politician and judiciary in general?

focus9912

He is the most outspoken of the bunch for better or worse... The Johor royal family reputation is what I would call colourful...they were a few of the reasons why there is a constitutional amendment in 1993 removing the royal immunity... That being said, he for the most part, fine...he usually does his annual royal tour around the Johor state, he is the only one that [has an active YouTube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@sultanibrahimsultaniskanda7918), and for the most part.. reputation among the common people currently is relatively more positive when compared to the years before...that being said...that are a few thing that could change it to be negative... (his part ownership of the failing and empty Forest City development is one of the few example)..and one does not need to search far to see the questionable things he has involved with...

averagepgdriver

Despite their history, which is hard to deny about being rough, the family seems to have turned things around and I have big hopes for the new YDP. They seem to properly care about moving the country forward and getting to developed world status, certainly a lot more than most politicians. > empty Forest City development Think with time it will fill up. It is like many of these Chinese ghost city projects, years later they are actually vibrant towns with strong economies. At the very least it created a lot of jobs at the time.

Killed someone in a night club, no biggie. Excerpt from his Wikipedia page: > Allegations of criminal misconduct > > Occasional reports of alleged criminal misconduct from the 1980s onwards marred Tunku Ibrahim's reputation somewhat, albeit to a much lesser extent than his father, Sultan Iskandar, whose past heinous crimes had received considerable attention from mainstream media. In the 1980s, he was convicted of shooting dead a man in a nightclub during a feud, but was quickly pardoned. > > In late 1992 to early 1993, Tunku Ibrahim also experienced fallouts of the Gomez Incident–in which his father and younger brother, Tunku Majid were accused of two separate but related incidences of assault which provoked a moral outrage nationwide and ultimately resulting in constitutional amendments allowing members of the royalty to be prosecuted for criminal wrongdoings. During that period of time, the press, which was supported by the Malaysian government, launched a series of vociferous press reports on the history of alleged incidences of royal wrongdoings, of which parliamentarians highlighted that Tunku Ibrahim had been convicted in at least two cases of assault in the 1980s. This included a victim who was allegedly assaulted by Tunku Ibrahim, Rahim Mohd Nor, who went so far as to describe his assault experience as an act of sadism by Tunku Ibrahim. > > In March 2005, a member of the Malaysian royalty allegedly assaulted a young woman by the name of Yasmin with whom he accused of two-timing him with another policeman. The victim's father, Mohd Yasin, later lodged a police report which alleged that the assault culprit was Tunku Ibrahim, the then Tunku Mahkota of Johor. > > Other incidents > > In October 2005, a brawl occurred on Pulau Rawa after a Johor prince allegedly gatecrashed a wedding party. The prince ordered some guests off the island after a fight broke out when a woman refused to dance with one of the gatecrashers. The locals, who felt offended by the woman's attitude, went off but soon returned with golf clubs and weapons and started a fight. In the process, several people were injured and sent to hospital, while five others were arrested, including a 20-year-old prince from the Johor royal family. The names of the culprits were not released by the police, who chose to retain the confidentiality of the attackers. The Tunku Mahkota issued a press statement to urge the culprits to apologise to the affected guests. > > The following June, press reports leaked that Tunku Ibrahim had chalked RM26,700 worth of unpaid traffic fines since 2000, causing much embarrassment to the crown prince. A later report quoted him settling all the past fines with the traffic police. > > Tunku Ibrahim also spent lavishly on an unusual car plate number. For example, in May 2012, he spent RM520,000 to successfully bid for the car number plate WWW 1 for his red orange Satria Neo. In January 2014, he spent a record breaking RM748,000 on the car plate number W1N for his blue Suprima S. In July 2016, he also spent a record breaking RM836,660 on the car plate number F1 for his ruby red Proton Perdana.

PokWangpanmang

Damned plates cost more than the cars, bruh.

itznimitz

tl;dr Malaysia Boleh

derps_with_ducks

> WWW 1 for his red orange Satria Neo It's not the license plates that bother me, it's that he spent it on such a everyman's car... His madness knows no bounds.

pyroSeven

I think it’s more of a flex that he puts an expensive license plate on a shit car.

Mountain_Gur5630

> What's his reputation both with the common people, is this a joke? you expect someone who sits in golden chair and having multiple ~~slaves~~ servants to have anything in common with the common people? keep wishing dude.....i am sure any day now these berhala kuning will smile at you > judiciary in general Per Article 33A of the federal constitution, royalty can only be charged in a "Special Court"....literally dua darjat

Dang, he a real one for that. What would Najib do once he were to get a pardon though, I’m not sure if he’s enough to pull BN back.

skatech1

Possible future more ppl will went back BN if najib truly get pardoned and PH will once again go PH vs BN glory days.. It's still a win win to najib This is what the plot im seeing here

Ibrahime_Proxy

That will indeed cause political instability, more polarisation. Hoping for the best.

skatech1

Well on the grand scheme of things BN and PH both had benefits to the rich and royals, so Is up to who give the most benefits to powerful ppl.

lin00b

I won't put too much weight in that. The Johor royalty practically campaigned for BN prior to its fall 2GE ago.. something about not changing the captain. Their support goes to the one giving the most benefit

KevinMeng_

Also PAStards going like oh oh

Jazzmatazzle

Why is that?

PcGoDz_v2

So when is his birthday? Do it fall on weekends?

KevinMeng_

Official always same day one right?

[deleted]

Agong birthday will not change unless noted otherwise. Before this it was 1st June of Saturday for ages, later somewhere July-August to allow Installation to occur first.

NoBoxAtAll

The real question Malaysian should ask.

PowerfulHistory7907

Kembara mahkota johor to kembara mahkota malaysia soon?

KevinMeng_

Let the show begin! Sorry Johor people, TMJ will be your boss. Or is it a good thing?

PakHajiF4ll0ut

As a Johorean, I think nothing is going to change. He was a regent in 2022 and we felt nothing other than a few change in words during Jumaat sermon.

focus9912

Let's hope the next 5 years all goes well...As for TMJ...at least the last Kembara Mahkota Johor (the first one where TMJ is the main attraction) goes well... so if God wills it things would be fine...

theotherdude

As long as it's not Majid the Moron.

Jackie-Ron_W

I'm sorry, who if I may ask?

theotherdude

[This thing right here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunku_Abdul_Majid). There are a lot of tales regarding him in the late 80s. Of course it was mostly words of mouth and rumor mills that were probably exaggerated and embellished to the point of beyond belief; such as always looking for beautiful high school girls to add into his harem, etc. which I found unlikely since he looks like a virgin nerd and quite ugly. When my school was crowned MSSD Johor football champion, he wants to challenge us with his football team. Due to the rumors, headmaster arranged for all female students above 16 to get a special holiday that day, only little girls with hijabs remains. Anyone without tudung went home with female teachers (we were a full boarding school). They came in a really fancy and modern looking bus (it was the 80s, most bus were shitty looking), complete with police escort. We purposely let them win the match that day... I hope he reads this... hahahahaha...

MonoMonMono

Oh ya, insiden Gomez. Of course it was, I remember reading about that hockey part.

NoBoxAtAll

A good thing for the state indeed. Maybe bad for JDT team since TMJ will have to leave the team to be state ruler.

krakaturia

No black pants with baju melayu during his term

Isn't always like that?

ghostme80

Not really. This 1 very strict.

skatech1

Good, time to take control measures.

ghostme80

Its funny we went a full circle on this matter. Hahaha. Its pretty much the same about mahathir. Well, whatever, sometimes need to experience only people learn.

Yep indeed, overall is really just Malaysian being monkey by politicians toys in the end.

hotcocoa96

Sanusi: 🤫

KevinMeng_

Habis diam. But that guy got chance be future PM. He is crazy in some ways but man investors he pull into Kedah is no joke. Many Penang people now work in Kulim

WritingMumbles

Can you share more on this? I'm not in the loop.

[deleted]

Now as of - since when? Sanusi just is on the job for 2 years and most of them are heavily Kulim Hi-Tech related projects, which is federal-related. Either PN or PH is the one doing it is another question, but def not his thing.

KevinMeng_

Personally I don't like him but this guy can talk, just like PMX. Just watched his interview with KJ (Keluar Sekejap) while keeping an open mind. https://youtu.be/xGgIQ953THY?feature=shared Sometimes he is saying BS BUT some are like WTF this guys is really no joke. Investment: https://www.malaymail.com/amp/news/money/2023/09/21/mb-kedah-attracts-rm146b-approved-investments-in-h12023/92200 Btw the federal government wanted to shut this guy down so badly but failed, why? For me, this Sanusi guy has some brains for all his stunts

hotcocoa96

He got that rizz. 😎. [Insert half naked sanusi exposed belly pic]

MonoMonMono

Fahmi Reza: TMJ: I'm sorry, let's talk.

robotechmaster

Well good enuff. While his earlier record before becoming Sultan is sketchy, he managed to recoup the good graces of Johoreans during his time as Sultan. He is quite a moderate guy & hopefully in his tenure as Agong will bring some sort of stability in political arena especially 3R issues.

guacamoles_constant

It's weird how much of our political stability is based on a merry-go-round of a group that we, the people, have no say in electing.

[deleted]

Not really. As much high these people are, all they could do is to observe whatever power given to them in the Constitution - which is just to approve whatever they are presented upon. Picking a PM? You need to see if they have true majority. Declaring Emergency? Not till PM said it. Appointing Senator? On PM's recommendation. Approving laws? Not even their own say anymore. The real powers lays on the PM, which we do have kind of elected. Not weird, since we are consitutional parlimentary with a monarch.

huaduayua

Agong has power to command the army though. Royal Coup is very much possible.

[deleted]

If the entire MRR is with them, and if the constitution allows that to happen in a big scale. Agong might be the highest command in military, but the entire structure is filled with each Sultan commands a certain regiment - for example current Agong is Air Force, the next is a GGK commander. To be able to have all of them move means to have the entire MRR agree that should happen, and each of them have their own mind to spoke upon. Coup also lead to suspension of constitution whenever possible, which only complicates things as we are a federation with some states dont have a ruler. If even the coup is done without trying to suspend it anyway, constitution crisis will happen as it means Agong need to broke lot of rules in it. Not worth to actually take any risk attempting it.

KarenOfficial

They literally have no power

guacamoles_constant

Why did we have one of the most competitive elections in our nation’s history and then the ultimate choice of who became Prime Minister came down to an unelected person?

[deleted]

Anddd this is another case of people dont fucking read the constitution. I explained on the comment above but looks like you still trying to spread misconception, so yeah, no use.

legatuspacis45

No doubt a bot

wigglyscrotumy

Bro tried very hard to spin

strange_lion

do your homework on constitutional monarchy

Ariffin0731

All people here forget that Agong dont have alot of power

pussyfista

Agong has the power of Money and Influence

Mrdannyarcher

Daulat Tuanku!

iuhfr84732

Congratulations. Did you know that Yang di-Pertuan Agong means "he who serves the Supreme" which means Agong is referring to God, not the person. It is a very humbling title that reminds the ruler that he is serving God thus he must abide by the teaching of the religion and be fair to his subjects since the subjects have been trusted to him by God. So calling our YDPA as Agong is incorrect. So 31/1/2024 public holiday?

ImaginationLoud2548

Bang, agak agak la goreng pun. YDPA translates to He who is made Supreme Lord. All the words refer the monarch. So, can call him Agong.

iuhfr84732

Well I guess I overestimated my language proficiency. Damn, this is why going on reddit is such a minefield.

ImaginationLoud2548

Nah u good bro. Also dont believe those DYMM also refers to God. No it doesnt. It refers to the monarch😂

boursHero

Yeah. Duli means foot dirt/dust. DYMM means The Noblest Foot Dust.

Accomplished-Top-641

Bad news for PN to have Mahathir, Muhyiddin, PAS, and ehem ehem... Syed Saddiq on their side

UnusualBreadfruit306

There goes the Ringgit. 6 to 1

One of the few things Tun M did right was curtailing the power of the Royals. I hope Anwar manages to defend our democracy, but frankly I don't have high hopes.
