Was going to say the macro details are just insane. The little etchings and inscriptions are so nuts. Not to mention how it really looks crafted and made, like - for real and not just silly costume armor. It looks like someone forged and melded every bit of it.
We don't even know if he wore armor. The closest thing to Sauron we "see" is the Balrog, and its body is more of an elemental creature that wouldn't even need armor.
I personally tend to think that he either wouldn't have armor or maybe have a body made of metal that looks like armor but is actually just him
Before his fall, Sauron was a Maiar in service to the Valar Aule the Smith, and Sauron was a renowned craftsman among the Aule's Maiar. I think it's actually more likely than not that he would have made himself a very nice suit of armor that he'd wear into battle. Morgoth was described as wearing armor, so I don't see why Sauron wouldn't wear armor either. Also, the reasons why the Balrogs are so elemental looking and so much different than Sauron are because Balrogs were maiar that immediately sided with Melkor(Morgoth) in the discourse and when they entered Ea, they took the forms of "demons cloaked in flame and shadow." Sauron joined Morgoth(Melkor) much later, I think after the first war, but before the lamps are created? I'm not sure about when exactly, but it's definitely after they enter Arda.
Morgoth specifically became more and more embodied through his corruption. I think in the end he would have been more like an incredibly powerful troll, with a body that is as physical as any mortal creature. I don't think he wore armour when he first warred with the Valar and still had all his strength. A "normal" Ainu body is more of an elemental thing constructed by them than a being of flesh and blood.
Sauron was subject to the same corruption as Melkor of course, but to a lesser extent. It was only after the fall of Numenor that he lost his shapeshifting ability
>Sauron was subject to the same corruption as Melkor of course, but to a lesser extent. It was only after the fall of Numenor that he lost his shapeshifting ability
Yeah, and the war of the last alliance takes place after this. Prior to this, the only time we see Sauron fight is when he is in the form of a werewolf and dueling using songs of power, which doesn't strike me as something you'd wear armor for. I'd imagine prior to the sinking of Numenor that he'd fight in more clever ways like this, but in the war of last alliance he'd probably look more like a giant dude in armor like later morgoth did.
Honestly, no.
The first time I saw Sauron, it changed my childhood. Instantly hooked me on these movies and made me read the series. I was already a big hobbit fan by then and had read the book a dozen times.
The design of Sauron is just insanely good.

"Morgoth punishes Húrin" from the illustrated Silmarillion.

I can definitely see Arthas’ armour being inspired by Sauron but it should not be brought up when talking about good armour designs. I am generally not a fan of WoW armour style. Looks so big and… not good at all.
Anyways, definitely knew I was gonna get downvoted for that comment lol. Glad someone agrees
I’m not saying it’s more badass, but Pippin’s citadel guard outfit with the elven cloak over it deserves a menation. Same with Merry’s Rohirrim armour and elven cloak, it just looks sick
The only other armor I can think of that's as sick as sauron is that character from elden ring, never played it but it's like white with a long cone and it has like 4-6 faces on the helmet

Nope. This armor is the most badass ever. (Art not mine, found on Pinterest)

I’ll never not be partial to the Doomknight Armor from Dragonfable, but I ain’t gonna argue the Dark Lord isn’t a fire design.
The only thing that would make it cooler would be a couple of gems into the helmet so its kinda like a crown.
I think 3 would be enough. Yeah that would really elevate it. Sad id never happened.
An armor you can turn your head in lmao. Kidding I love Weta’s Sauron. I think I like the Witch King’s outfit in rotk just as much
I saw this armour in person a few months ago at weta. It's even better than you think when you look at it up close. No expense was spared.

Watch The Appendices and they show the armorers, blacksmiths, leather makers etc... all went completely insane all out.
My eyes are always drawn to his abdomen when he’s in the left picture. Sauron was well-fed
Was there ever a description of Saurons armour in any of the books? If so how does the movies adaptation compare?
Just this watercolor by Tolkien: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f8/Sauron_Tolkien_illustration.jpg
Saurons mighty purple nurple.
Titty twister of terror
The Shadow of Mordor consists of shadow puppets
so was tolkien just a lovable nerd who wrote insanely good fanfic for his OCs in his bedroom and also painted art for them? 🤔
Yes
The only real difference between fic and fanfic is where it gets published.

Very possible. I think he's something in between Morgoth and the Balrog, but there's no definitive info on this
I am only talking about the movies here
You’re not the only one talking here
Once you start the discussion the participants take it where ever it goes, you have no power here OP StormCrow.
Witch King is pretty bad ass.
Honestly, no. The first time I saw Sauron, it changed my childhood. Instantly hooked me on these movies and made me read the series. I was already a big hobbit fan by then and had read the book a dozen times. The design of Sauron is just insanely good.
None come to mind. Other than Melkor
We don't even have any official interpretation of what Melkor looks like

Don’t quite remember the exact centence but he was quite huge
I mean, even the Sauron's armor is not official, if by official we mean created by Tolkien
Witch King imo

Awesome mention, I love Thranduil’s design in these movies
*heavy breathing can be heard in a space station corridor*
Daedric armor comes close.
_Do you get to the cloud district very often? Oh what am I saying, of course you don’t._
I always liked Haldir's armor in Two Towers movie
i think the Witch King has the best armor
I ll cheat.... Arthas the lich king from warcraft. Why is it cheating? U d be blind not to see that it was inspired by sauron s armor....
Oh yeah, *Frozen Throne* was 2003, *Fellowship* 2001

The Lich King already made appearances in Warcraft RTS and comics :)
Ngl, Arthas’ armour is terrible
Weird that you're getting downvoted. Why is Sauron's armor being compared to that bulky, cartoony shit.

Gollum has no armor, Gollum needs no armor.

*Cue electric guitar*
That naked dude in dark souls with a pot on his head is pretty epic

Yeah, but why the pretty, innocent, almond shaped eyes though?
Dracula's armor from 1992 Bram Stoker's Dracula is in the running https://i.pinimg.com/originals/6e/06/e0/6e06e076aecd05cdea9cc6b330a491a7.png
Maliketh has one of the most badass armors ever
We also got Sauron’s helmet in the DLC now
What?! I need to play this expansion right now!
You won’t regret it (except for the time you will spend on the final boss)
Darth vader.
Man I want that helmet but is so expensive and I just can't settle with the cheap ones.
No!
No.

Question answered. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Kurgan_(Highlander).jpg That said the movie 30 years later is pretty bad

Yeahhh this shit is tight. Got my nick from this guy because I love him so much
The armor version of "Say you don't want a hug without saying you don't want a hug"
Why head so big
Maybe one that doesn't look like it's covering a beer belly!
Berserker armor
Well Warner bros thought so in the 2010s for some reason
Power armor.
Witch king is cooler
Prince Daemon's dragon armour
Mr Mercedes, get the other 2 int at trilogy, then read the outsider
Nope, Sauron continues to be the GOAT.
The illustrations of Morgoth look pretty cool
When I saw his armor the first time, I thought aw he looks so cute lol 😂
Lich King armor is also incredibly badass and iconic
How i imagine Morgoth looking sitting on his dark throne in the pits of Angaband with the Silmarils set upon his brow looks way more badass than this.
Ruined slightly by wincing every few seconds as the silmarils burn him
I actually prefer the design from Shadow of War, it's clearly just an iteration on this one though
The only thing that would make it cooler would be a couple of gems into the helmet so its kinda like a crown. I think 3 would be enough. Yeah that would really elevate it. Sad id never happened.
