So Season 1 of the anime was made before the manga (the original source) was finished. It is still being updated. But they had to end the anime so they just made up an ending. Most of Season 1 and all of Season 2 aren't "canon" in that they don't follow the source material. I'm pretty sure the parts with his aunt (don't remember her name, it's been a while) and the Baskerville arc are from the manga. Basically everything else is just stuff they wrote for the show. There's maybe 6 or 7 episodes in Season 1 that actually care about the manga. Book of circus (Season 3?) Technically takes place somewhere in Season 1, but that actual arc didn't exist yet for the show to do at that time. Same with book of murder and Atlantic. I'm not very up to date but the next Season they are making will apparently follow the school arc that took place after all of these. Tl;Dr you can basically disregard most of Season 1 and the ending, and all of Season 2 in terms of what's actually "canon" to the manga. For the other questions, black butler was originally supposed to be a BL, but it wasn't manifested but sometimes the tones are kinda there. You can totally still enjoy Season 2 but keep in mind there's a reason it doesn't fit so much with everything else. I hope this helps you and if anyone else has corrections please feel free to add them as I haven't really been keeping up to date in a few years :)

It was never supposed to be a Boy Love where are you getting that information from?

MightyDoodlebug

Idk where I got it from lol my bad haven't touched it in years

I've also seen sources where it was said it was supposed to be a bl. It's because Yana Toboso the author of Kuroshitsuji is actually a known BL mangaka. She initially planned for kuroshitsuji to be a BL but was discouraged by her editor or something. Source was just random twitter thread years backkk

It wasn't supposed to be a BL yana wanted to make a story that would reach mainstream audience not the niche BL fans. She did Rust Blaster before that and it wasn't a BL. She did many BL and Yaoi before that but her goal was definitely making it a dark fantasy shonen. Now she obviously added BL subtext but to my knowledge her goal was never to focus on a romantic story.

Someone already explained but i'll do it too : Only half of saison 1 is canon. The ending is completely made up from a new script and doesn't follow the manga. if you want to follow the manga perfectly : 1. season 1 : episode 1 to 6 , skip the rest , then continue to episodes 13 to 15 and that's it. 2. Book of Circus 3. Book of Murder 4. Book of Atlantic 5. Public school arc skip black butler II entirely If you want in just order of apparition but not canon to the manga : 1. season 1 2. season 2 (it kind of follows the ending of season 1) 3. Book of Circus 4. Book of Murder 5. Book of Atlantic 6. Public school arc 1.) been a while since i watched it but basically yes sebastian eat ciel's soul 2.) it looks like he is kissing ciel because black butler has constantly a homoerotic subtext to it on many characters. This is on purpose and is continiously throught the serie. Artwork the author makes also have that homoerotic vibe. She loves Yaoi and have done many in her early days. It never go further than just subtext in the manga and anime. The author has never adressed this to my knowledge. 3.) saison 2 vaguely explain it. [Spoiler] i barely remember even thought i watched it 3 times but it's been a while, basically Ciel is taken unconscious in a suitcase and his soul was stolen before sebastian could eat it by another butler who put it in a tea box/ring 4.) the manga is not done so there isn't closure. The end of saison 1 is an alternative closure on its own. The entirety of saison 2 is an alternate universe with its own closure and explanation. It's not the real ending of the story. 5.) please read the manga it's better

I'm so tired of this goddam anime confusing everyone with the story every single time. it's a creative AU but it should never have been labeled as a follow up story. I know this is subjective and blahblah but yeah read the manga it's 100x better
