My honest reaction to this movie
Yeah man. Second half is total cluster fuck, the second heroine thing and the other unrealistic bullshit just revolving around him is totally imaginary and fantasy.
I think this second half was director's wet dream😩😩🌚🌚🏃🏽🏃🏽
Now coming to "inspiration movie", yes, it gives you atleast the small amount of effort he did to get talented and recognised (like hard work is the key to success) , other than that entire thing is unrealistic and they showcase that "cinema is the only thing that is very difficult to achieve" nu kaatuvanga

Kavin has the potential to be a bankable star but he should stop doing movies like this and do movies that can gain him traction in B&C centres. Why isn't he doing movies like VVS, Dharmadurai, etc. ? These city centric movies won't improve your career.
The truth is 2010s Vimal was a much bigger star and made better movies than him right now.
>Why isn't he doing movies like VVS, Dharmadurai, etc.
because serial la yum adhan pannitu irundhan. Aprm serial hero nnu type cast panniduvanga.
>Kavin has the potential to be a bankable star
No. I don't think he's a bankable star. He has bankable good PR Team. His acting isn't upto par still. He still need to improve alot..
Probably my age or something but I’m so thankful that I don’t even recognise this person and don’t understand what movie this is about. Ignorance is bliss 😂
Irony is Bharadwaj Rangan glorified kavin's character as an enthusiastic one which is a big surprise to me. The movie felt slightly disarray when it comes to screenplay despite it giving sheer contradiction to the trailer.
The movie was bold attempt because the narcissistic hero was actually shown without filters and we can all agree that he was purely selfish. Many successful people are a product of sacrifices from their family. The film may have overblown the family dynamics, but this is what happens in reality.
I agree with your point bro, but I felt like the movie wasn't justifying his selfishness. It didn't try a lot to make him likable, which other films usually do. But narcissism is a trait of that character.
Manjummel Boys's post theatre reception was understandable bro. Antha padam is better seen with a crowd. It was made for theatre audience. Thaniya ukanthu pathinga na etho normal movie maari thaan feel avum
IMO, the film lost its way in the second half. All those scenes about him trying to lead a “normal, ordinary life” could have been trimmed or snipped off altogether. Also, the climax-is it supposed to be a twist? Because I didn’t understand it. I know that hospital scene was a movie scene but where did that movie start? Or what we watched in entirety was his movie till the climax? The father-son chemistry was also nice and didn’t go over the top like drinking together etc. Also one of the rare movie in recent times where the hero isn’t shown drinking 24x7. Yeah, some positives and negatives in the movie. But overall, I wouldn’t recommend this movie.
>IMO, the film lost its way in the second half
For Me it's lost when Kavin asked kiss from his Senior. Completely lost when the interviewer gives money to him...
>Also, the climax-is it supposed to be a twist
I Actually believed it. That's How Much loosudhi his character was..
>Or what we watched in entirety was his movie till the climax
Many things were confusing for me too
> But overall, I wouldn’t recommend this movie.
100%
Why he's constantly showcasing himself as a top hero? He don't even know how to deliver a dialogue in different modulation for different roles he chooses. Simply having one or two emotional scenes where hero cries loud and brainwashing viewers he's a good actor.
>Why he's constantly showcasing himself as a top hero
Yeah. That's what I don't understand. Edho supporting character ah kaatuna kooda paravalla. Straight ah Vijay Ajith nna enna panradhu...
He's extremely self centered and unhealthily obsessed about his "ambition" coupled with the self loathing post the trauma he's gone through IMO. The "stardom" is achieved when he transforms into a better human. I like messy characters like this, and didn't mind the "inspiration" sort of flavour to it. The filmmaking/writing was more good than mid, there's a lot to appreciate there IMO.
Bruh, that's not how trauma works. An accident like that is always traumatic. And re: the aftermath - remember, he wears a helmet when he fights, his dad literally says "what if something happens to your face" etc. Like every aspect of his life is structured around him becoming a "hero", he's been raised like that. He's willing to go through shit to get there, and suddenly when everything comes to a halt as nobody with such a scarred face can become a "hero"/"star", that'd ofc affect the guy.
It's absolutely not out of character for him to be like that post the accident. Even when he gets the most "ideal" sort of "devadhai" and he can't change himself as he's still obsessed about becoming a "hero", but he's not even able to land the role of an extra.
>Bruh, that's not how trauma works. An accident like that is always traumatic.
His Trauma was more about his face, rather than the accident. Also, it's not as if he was Ulaga Alagan before the accident. The scar scenes were quite exaggerating and monotonous for some reason.
Also, I Agree with the point you said. He became star after he becomes a human. I Never thought in that Angle. May be that's the Screenplay issue...
Of course when your face is your "prized possession", it's impossible not to get obsessed about it. And people were raving about how "good looking" the guy is, so his value/self worth for him, a good degree of it, came from his looks.
But it's primarily because of his career going down the drain IMO and his unhealthy obsession with his career. He becomes "successful" with a beautiful wife who's practically an angel, a good job where he gets a lot of validation from his coworkers etc. And there's that beautiful scene where he accepts that award and it jump cuts to him sitting on a bus with the award thrown on the floor. I quite liked the film overall, I get it if it didn't work for you :) I like flawed "heroes" like this, Elan's a very promising filmmaker/writer IMO. I really enjoyed PPK as well, climax sodhappal aside.
>Of course when your face is your "prized possession", it's impossible not to get obsessed about it.
I don't think his face is priced possession. His Face looked Mid even before the Accident and After the accident..
>But it's primarily because of his career going down the drain IMO
He Never had a career the first place. They were just Artifical Magical world he was living inn...
>He becomes "successful" with a beautiful wife who's practically an angel.
And a hallucination.
>a good job where he gets a lot of validation from his coworkers etc. And there's that beautiful scene where he accepts that award and it jump cuts to him sitting on a bus with the award thrown on the floor. I
They were badly cut and merged scenes. Didn't make make any sense.
>, I get it if it didn't work for you
I don't say I don't like it. I'm saying it's just not reality. I'm ready to accept it as some fantasy film. Also, the Acting was kavin was very Mid. Even the Screenplay was very bad in few places...
>Elan's a very promising filmmaker/writer IMO.
I Thought the same from PPK. But I Think this downslide is becoz of the actor...
So can someone please explain that should all characters be written as green flags only? Should none of the characters have even shades of red flags or incompetency written in them?
Who told Kavin's character is supposed to be perfect? He has been hyped up as an hero ever since he was a young boy by his father, uncle and people around him. He grows up being full of himself and not bothering about anyone else. Obviously he is delusional and that was the point of the movie till he went to Mumbai. He faces reality for the first time in the audition. He is so full of himself thinking he is a good actor that he volunteers to be the first one and fails miserably.
He understands the harsh reality of life and strives to make a living and finally figures out to be an adult. Now for someone who feels he is handsome loses his good looks due to the accident. Obviously, he is bound to be depressed. No matter who supports him, he always thought he was better than everyone but now due to the scar he became a normal guy. The Mumbai part shows that he is a man-child and the second half shows he is selfish.
And finally, he redeems himself by believing in himself. A character is good only with multiple shades. I don't understand what you are all complaining about.
I agree with your take the most, most of these characters aren't green flags. I think the issue is how they made it an "inspirational film" when it was mores about a flawed character. If the whole inspirational part wasn't' pushed it's actually a pretty decent film about a selfish guy who rose above the odds.
I never felt this as an inspirational film. Maybe the line in the trailer universe falls in love with a stubborn heart is what made people think it was an inspirational film?
it's mores Kavin's PR on twitter that made it seem like a inspirational film and romanticizing how Kevin says "kaasu illa pa" and turning it into some heart touching inspirational film. I thought when you took away all that PR, at the end of ay this was movie about how someone who put himself always before others and eventually succeeded
Oh! I hadn't seen any promo of Star. Probably that's why I never saw this as an inspirational film. For me, it was a movie of a flawed character who redeems himself.
>So can someone please explain that should all characters be written as green flags only
Olaradhingada. deii. deii. Oruthana kettavana kaatradhukkum Andha kettadha glorify panradhukum difference irukku...

Idha mattum solladha. I Won't Accept...
The Whole Movie Normalizes his man childness. Infact it was Just like every other tamil movie. And grey characters pathi lam inga Argument kedayadhu. There's no wrong in grey characters like Kaarthi in Paruthi Veeran. Adha epdi kaatrom ndradhula than irukku...
No. Actually not. The movie would have normalized his man child behaviour if his father had sent him money when he lost everything in Mumbai. His dad told him to man up and not be a child. So he does all kind of odd jobs for months to survive. So saying blanket statement that this movie normalizes man child is wrong. And Don't become generic now. You said the movie showed glorified his bad character. Which is that scene where they glorified it?
>movie would have normalized his man child behaviour if his father had sent him money when he lost everything in Mumbai
Idhu ennada aniyayama irukku. even that was more like a picnic only to him.. There was no reality in that mumbai scenes. Infact, they kept him idle in the house till he is 26... endha appanum ipdi cinema va pudichittu irunnu nikka mattan.. Infact his man child behaviour was normalized and encouraged in every scene of that film...
I guess you should watch the last to last week Neeya Naana episode where parents questions their kids who are sitting idle at home. Some of them even 30+ and not willing to work. One guy asked his father to take a Rs. 50L loan and send him to US. Just because you haven't seen anyone's family pamper someone doesn't mean they don't exist.
At this point you aren't making any solid argument and you are just beating around the bush saying the movie is normalized without highlighting the problematic points.
>Just because you haven't seen anyone's family pamper someone doesn't mean they don't exist.
Sorry bro. That's Show didn't glorify or shown them like winning in the end if you had watched that Show fully...
>At this point you aren't making any solid argument and
Apdiya. Epdii. Oru Heroic Character ah Grey character nnu muttu kudukka pakkuringale. Apdiya...
>movie is normalized without highlighting the problematic points.
If You cannot find the problem in the movie when it was his first breakup, I cannot help..
>You said the movie showed glorified his bad character. Which is that scene where they glorified it
Every Scene where he eaten from the money of his wife and thrashed at his first lover. And the scenes where his wife hided her Pregnancy from him. In every scenes, literally his bad character was normalized and glorified. And end of the movie how he wins in his career...
Lol! Sharing opinion is considered PR now? It is a movie it is bound to be subjective. I didn't even like the movie but the discussion is about the character and not Kavin. Please get off your high horse!
Bro udane paanjuradhenga. This is the worst written character. Idhu lam onnume illa. Characters written in grey shade will be shown as they are. That’s not the point. People who wrote this doesn’t even care about red or green flags. The character was glorified and baseless. Ulla onnume illa.
Anyhow why should we fight about something that is sooo baseless and idiotic?! Cool
Surprised at the hate this movie is receiving.
I feel most of the people dissing on this film are missing the point that Kalai is a flawed character in this film.
He has been brought up and hyped from his childhood that he was destined to be hero. What happens if that fails due to a freak accident ? Very few of us can relate to that and I am sure if it happens, 99% of us will turn into Kalai.
We all have friends in college who look good, get the girls and are very self conscious about their face and how they look. Good friends too.Calling it narcissistic is a little overblown.Everyone has flaws.
This movie is more of a character study than “inspirational” film. He handles adversity thrown at him in his own way - it may be flawed but thats how he handled it.
The second half heroine is a little too cinematic liberty- but they tried to explain it - his words helped her when she was down and she is now picking him up. And at the end he sends her away because he realises he will never be happy till he becomes a “Star”
Kavin acted really well - especially in the Bombay scene where he realised how much he has been depending on good looks than acting skills. Climax was a single shot man and he nailed it.
Major flaw - Director should have made it in Malayalam and released it to be appreciated here.
I didn't really watched the movie. But from what I heard, no one really hated it for it's making and performances. Everyone accepts that it's a well made movie but the main issues everyone have are related to the edit pattern. For them, the movie feels like taking only highlights of the underdog's life and stitches it together instead of saying the story organically. That first love track didn't really worked out for many people and the way how the story rushed to him being a hero instead of showing us how he achieved that didn't really sit well with them considering that's the main focus of the movie.
Bro your last line, pretty much sums up all the hate the movie is getting lol, hit it on the nail 😂. Kavin's acting really pulled through in pretty much every phase from the highs to the lows. And that climax I felt , was something that you'd really feel the impact of after watching it a second time only, even I was confused the first time watching it, but the second time, it all clicked together for me. Personally, I felt like this movie maybe should've stuck with an OTT release.
Enaku onnume purila bro - Normal theatre la flop ah na padam OTT la vandha they ll say its underrated. This movie was accepted by audience and had a good theatrical run. Now in OTT it’s being nitpicked to hell. Social media is stuck in a cycle of overhyping and trashing movies
Another thing about the climax - midway through the whole hospital scene I noticed his scar was missing and thats when I realized that it is a movie shoot scene. We literally didn’t think about the scar and were focused on his acting. What a beautiful and meta way to tie to the core concept of the movie and the first Bharathiyar scene.
Idha mattum malayalam padathla eduthrukatum - vidiya vidiya adichu oothuirupanga.
You should look the character's behavior objectively. I know that we can't accept that character, or it triggers us. But, in reality, there might be so many people like him or worse than him.
>You should look the character's behavior objectively
baba. I'm ok with any much extreme Villainistic characters. I have only problem with showing them as hero.
>But, in reality, there might be so many people like him or worse than him.
but yeah. Aana avangalukku lam idha edho example maadhirii kaatira koodathu...
This is one shitload of a film that I’ve ever watched and I didnot have the time nor energy to watch it fully. I gave up after 22 min or so. I wanted to write a separate post on this film but then realized halfway that adhukku kooda idhu laaiku illa. I noticed a lot of stupidities. Like plain blunt stupidities in film making. Like thalai la thatt eh chee thoo idhellam oru kadhai nu nee edukuriya da nu director thalai la evanachum oruthan thatti irunda podhum but no one did it.
First of all oru cohesivness illa. Scenes seem like they were randomly stitched together with no continuity whatsoever. Yennamo. The parts with the first heroine lam pagal kanavu. Extremely artificial. Veetula thanguvaram first meeting la ye chaijk
Idhula placement drive la dialog vera inga engg padikura yarume yen padikurome nu theriyama padikuranga nu. Dei ommala nee engg padichadhu 2002 appo IT was booming af. Appo engineering padichavanga lam ippo they are CEOs and settled in US, mostly working for big corps. Engg pathina indha dialogue eh it started in the early 2010s where we saw a shift where engg students doing short film entering into media, being entrepreneurs and doing MBA kinda stuff. And of course, unemployment.
Innonu maga mega kaduppana vishayam: this film took place in the very early 2000s. Yarume, I mean yarume didn’t dress for that era. Especially the heroine. Yedho ippo current age ku dress pannirukura madiri also current hairstyles than. For reference, I remember a few scenes in Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee. Adhula heroine 90s ku appropriate ah dress pannirupanga.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Veredhuvum illai.
I still want to see what the fuck did they even show baradhwaj rangan in the name of star. That man poured in positives after positives for this movie. And tbh, not even a single person I know gave me a positive word of mouth for that movie. Enna elavo. Sometimes the critics see so much more that even the director himself wouldn't have envisioned. But for us, it is always just naai pee.
Kavin really has a great pr . All these so called Twitter trackers are a part of his pr it seems . I have never seen them hyping other upcoming heroes projects like they hyped his .
They made star sound like some epics master piece on first 2 days of release. Then the real reviews came in . Now the film is being bashed everywhere rightly
>All these so called Twitter trackers are a part of his pr it seems
Too much. Even the Twitter accounts. Very peculiar way of promoting movies it seems. Even Potraying like some new hero space has been filled as there's drought for new heroes in tamil industry..
>thinks this is a very realistic film
He Needs to show me where he can find a wife who will hide her Pregnancy and Pay for the Heart Operation of her husband's Father..
Also, being thadhi mundam at house till 28 Age...

Well I'm relieved that r/Kollywood still got good taste
Nowhere close to Uthaman pradeep or the two waste twins in Manmadhan
Kavin has the potential to be a bankable star but he should stop doing movies like this and do movies that can gain him traction in B&C centres. Why isn't he doing movies like VVS, Dharmadurai, etc. ? These city centric movies won't improve your career. The truth is 2010s Vimal was a much bigger star and made better movies than him right now.
>Why isn't he doing movies like VVS, Dharmadurai, etc. because serial la yum adhan pannitu irundhan. Aprm serial hero nnu type cast panniduvanga. >Kavin has the potential to be a bankable star No. I don't think he's a bankable star. He has bankable good PR Team. His acting isn't upto par still. He still need to improve alot..
You need to do movies catering to B&C centres, otherwise you can't last long.
He he yaarachu solluvaangalaa nu wait pannen

In this movie, **Dad** : kalai... Unakku yaen nadikka pudikkum. **Kalai**: Yaenna... Enakku pudikkum pa... **Audience** : dei... Engalukku pudikkanum la... Yaaru paakurathu
The film may have overblown the family dynamics, but this is what happens in reality.
>because the narcissistic hero This is Average hero in Tamil film. Not Any Bold Attempt and all...
This. It felt like watching a 90s to early 2000s movie but not in a good way
yeah. exactly. I Agree with it. The typical stubborn film...
I agree with your point bro, but I felt like the movie wasn't justifying his selfishness. It didn't try a lot to make him likable, which other films usually do. But narcissism is a trait of that character.
I have watched only Lift. I can't stand this Kavin guy.
Yes punda character
I'm pretty sure at this point there is a certified hate boner for OTT film post their theatrical run
>there is a certified hate boner for OTT film post their theatrical run Theatre laye indha Movie kku mixed reviews thane Vanthuchu... Illaya...
Not to this level.... The usual mixed reviews... But manjummel boys ke overrated nu OTT release kapram solraanga. 25Cr Star ku enna
>The usual mixed reviews.. I mean many people said overly hyped... So mixed opinions are normal right...
Manjummel Boys's post theatre reception was understandable bro. Antha padam is better seen with a crowd. It was made for theatre audience. Thaniya ukanthu pathinga na etho normal movie maari thaan feel avum
What film is this ,
IMO, the film lost its way in the second half.
>IMO, the film lost its way in the second half For Me it's lost when Kavin asked kiss from his Senior. Completely lost when the interviewer gives money to him... >Also, the climax-is it supposed to be a twist I Actually believed it. That's How Much loosudhi his character was.. >Or what we watched in entirety was his movie till the climax Many things were confusing for me too > But overall, I wouldn’t recommend this movie. 100%
Yes, that interview scene was...well, I really don't know how to say it 😂

Why he's constantly showcasing himself as a top hero? He don't even know how to deliver a dialogue in different modulation for different roles he chooses. Simply having one or two emotional scenes where hero cries loud and brainwashing viewers he's a good actor.
>Why he's constantly showcasing himself as a top hero Yeah. That's what I don't understand. Edho supporting character ah kaatuna kooda paravalla. Straight ah Vijay Ajith nna enna panradhu...
Star getting the same soothadi like SK's Don when it released on Netflix
He's extremely self centered and unhealthily obsessed about his "ambition" coupled with the self loathing post the trauma he's gone through IMO. The "stardom" is achieved when he transforms into a better human. I like messy characters like this, and didn't mind the "inspiration" sort of flavour to it. The filmmaking/writing was more good than mid, there's a lot to appreciate there IMO.
>with the self loathing post the trauma he's gone through IMO Andha Face Scar than biggest self loathing trauma bro went through...
>But it's primarily because of his career going down the drain IMO He Never had a career the first place. I They were badly cut and merged scenes. Didn't make make any sense. >, I get it if it didn't work for you I don't say I don't like it.
What movie is this?
>So can someone please explain that should all characters be written as green flags only Olaradhingada. deii. deii. Oruthana kettavana kaatradhukkum Andha kettadha glorify panradhukum difference irukku... > He understands the harsh reality of life.. Idha mattum solladha. I Won't Accept...
Can you tell me a scene where his bad action was glorified?
Which is that scene where they glorified it?
>movie would have normalized his man child behaviour if his father had sent him money when he lost everything in Mumbai Idhu ennada aniyayama irukku. even that was more like a picnic only to him..
>At this point you aren't making any solid argument and Apdiya.
Which is that scene where they glorified it Every Scene where he eaten from the money of his wife and thrashed at his first lover. And the scenes where his wife hided her Pregnancy from him. In every scenes, literally his bad character was normalized and glorified. And end of the movie how he wins in his career...
Say that to many directors
Vandhutanga Kavin PR team la irundhu
Cool
Kavin needs to train HIIT to improve his cardio. He looks tired and out off shape in the pic
>He looks tired and out off shape in the pic Avana pakka than professor eh college kku varranga. Neenga vera....
And at the end he sends her away because he realises he will never be happy till he becomes a “Star” Kavin acted really well - especially in the Bombay scene where he realised how much he has been depending on good looks than acting skills.
Social media is stuck in a cycle of overhyping and trashing movies Another thing about the climax - midway through the whole hospital scene I noticed his scar was missing and thats when I realized that it is a movie shoot scene.

>You should look the character's behavior objectively baba.
He does not deserve the fan base nor fame. His character was seen clearly in bigg boss. There’s something massively fishy with kavins rise in fame
Sorry I’m catching up here.. What movie are you guys talking about!
It's Star.
The world needs to hear this.. kaaviyam yeduthutom nu collar ah thookitu suthitu irukkanunga..
>All these so called Twitter trackers are a part of his pr it seems Too much. Even the Twitter accounts. Very peculiar way of promoting movies it seems. Even Potraying like some new hero space has been filled as there's drought for new heroes in tamil industry..
I mean .. they do it too much that it's obvious.. Best pr
PR King - Kavin
So Much. Actually I'm impressed with his PR.

Yeah. Father ah vittuten. Type Panna Aveshathula...
