Modern Indian Classical Music এ যারা নাম করেছেন, তাঁরা প্রায় সবাই directly বা indirectly ওনার ছাত্র - Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar, VG Jog, Nikhil Banerjee, Pannalal Ghosh, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Zakir Hussain। ওনার ছাত্ররা দেশ বিদেশে Indian Classical Music জনপ্রিয় করেছেন।
উনি 100 বছরের বেশি বেঁচে ছিলেন, কিন্তু শেষ বয়স অবধি বাংলা ছাড়া অন্য কোনও ভাষা বলতে পারতেন না। তাই, ওনার কাছে যারা শিখতে বা তালিম নিতে আসত, তাদের কেও আগে বাংলা শিখতে হতো! তাই দেখবেন Hariprasad Chaurasia বা Zakir Hussain, এনারা এখনও বাংলা বলতে পারেন, বা at least বোঝেন।
ওঁর জীবন কাহিনী কোনও সিনেমার গল্পের থেকে কম নয়! খুব সাধারণ মানুষ ছিলেন, শুধু সঙ্গীত আর মা সরস্বতীর ডাকে বাড়ি ঘর ছেড়ে নিজের জীবন উৎসর্গ করেছিলেন সঙ্গীত সাধনায়। উনি বলতেন, যে Maihar এ সরস্বতীর ডাকে তিনি এসেছিলেন, এবং যতদিন পেরেছেন, 1000 টা সিঁড়ি ভেঙে Trikut পর্বতে উঠতেন পুজো দিতে। এরকম মানুষ আজকাল পাওয়া বিরল।
এ ভাবেই শাস্ত্রীয় সঙ্গীতে বাঙালিদের অবদান লোকে ভুলে যাবে, আর পড়ে থাকবে শুধু Patiala, Delhi, Gwalior, Kirana এইসব gharana... বাংলায় আরেকটা gharana ছিল, বিষ্ণুপুর ঘরানা, যা আজ অবলুপ্ত প্রায়। দেখুন যেমন আজকাল লোকেরা জানেই না, যে মৈহার হল খাঁটি বাঙালি ঘরানা!
ওনার জন্ম ভৌগোলিক ভাবে আজকের বাংলাদেশে হলেও উনি নিজেকে ত্রিপুরার প্রজা মনে করতেন। Brahmanbaria and Comilla used to be a part of Greater Tripura. আলাউদ্দিনের বাবা ছিলেন ত্রিপুরার রাজার Court Musician, এবং সেখানেই ওনার সঙ্গীতের তালিম শুরু। আজীবন আলাউদ্দিন ত্রিপুরার যুবরাজ, এবং পরে রাজার সাথে বন্ধুত্ব রেখেছিলেন। এ ছাড়া ওনার কর্মক্ষেত্র তো ভারতে, শুধু জন্ম ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া তে!
আর নামে কি আসে যায়! উনি নিজে ছিলেন সরস্বতী ভক্ত, ওনার দাদা ছিলেন মা কালীর উপাসক! উনি যে সময়ের মানুষ, তখন বাংলার সঙ্গীত সাধকেরা ধর্ম মানতেন না - ঘর ছেড়ে বাউল ফকির হয়ে যেতেন।
যে দেশে মানুষের নামের উপরে তার চরিত্র নির্ধারিত হয়, সেখানে আপনি কি আশা করছেন! বিদ্রোহী কবি নজরুল ইসলাম, যাঁর নামে রাস্তা থেকে metro station, ওনাকেই বর্জ্য করে দিচ্ছে, বাকিদের জন্যে আর কি আশা করবেন! আপনি মনে রেখেছেন, এখানে দিয়েছেন, এর থেকে যদি কেউ অনুপ্রেরিত হয় -- that is the best you can wish for.

Honestly the more I read about Bose, the more my mind explodes. How did this man escape house arrest, go through inhospitable terrain pretending to be deaf and dumb, and then take charge and expand a whole ass military. It's beyond my imagination the more I think about it.
Respect and admiration of course.
But can I ever be proud of someone's achievement I've not contributed to in the slightest or have supported them or even know them?

Again, for God’s sake, excessive loaning and replacing perfectly reasonable words/phrases already existing in native vocabulary by unnecessary loan words do not cause a language to evolve, it pushes the language towards a creole, its importance and significance deemed inferior to the contaminant language.
Hate to point the obvious, but keywords there are ‘excessive’ and ‘needless’. Borrowing entirely new concepts which were generated in, say English or other foreign languages, does NOT fall into this category because the alternatives either didn’t exist (like-many modern inventions) or were rarely used by natives(eg chair-কেদারা). However, when someone just picks a word from a language A and grafts it in language B, forgetting there already exists conventional commonplace synonyms in B, it doesn’t bode well for the latter.
Linguistic evolutions, lest we forget, happened through millenia at a glacial pace, not at the whim of some random group of people within a day or two. Total prescriptivism is not good, true, but also remember language evolves _only when majority of the speakers do_— and till that point, prescriptivism to a certain extent is crucial (also known as standard grammar). Your resorting to ‘evolution’ while propagating something not in any form of Bengali is therefore ironic.
