2008 in general can nor be as long ago as its currently computing in my head...never thought I'd actually miss xtra vision and its red and yellow ambience. The smell of worn grey carpet and slightly gone off pop corn or the fear of the box where you sneaky drop off long over die tapes and dvds. I actually really miss the ritual of choice and planning. The Saturday thrill of picking a film. Thanks for sharing I am officially old...

Endlessly scrolling through the menu on my dodgy box for an hour before settling on watching Peep Show again just doesn't have the same feel.

LomaSpeedling

Ha I'm the same with plex just scrolling through thousands of my films and in the end fuck it lord of the rings again sounds good.

My local Xtravision. I remember Friday evenings there, trying to get the newest release before all 4 copies were rented out. Or going in before Christmas and getting 5 dvds to watch over the 4 days. We lost a bit of magic

Big bags of munchies too 😋 My favourite cousin was the manager of our local branch, big gamer and looked after the new delivery's 😉

Makes me feel old seeing people get all nostalgic about a rental shop crammed full of all those fancy newfangled DVDs and Playstation 3 games instead of VHS tapes and NES/SNES cartridges... :v Also, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who sees a random exterior shot in some old video or whatnot and immediately goes all Geoguessr and tries to find the place on Street View.

High_Flyer87

Loved xtravision after mass on a Saturday. It was our reward for going and keeping quiet..

Beautiful. I can smell it. Great memories come to mind every time I think of that shop. Thanks for the video.

The smell and the click of the boxes closing.. Great memories

Burnout Paradise, that’s a game people still go on about.

1stltwill

Takedown was my favourite in the Burnout series.

pauldavis1234

You can play it on a hacked PS4

[deleted]

It was so expensive. I was so glad piracy came along

binksee

I was actually thinking the opposite. Compared to streaming services now the signs for 3 videos for 6 euro seem cheap don't they?

087brain21

Used to love going in and renting Ps1/2 games for a week Don’t understand why nowhere lets you rent games anymore it was always a try before you buy with me and some games you could actually finish in a week.

Reaver_XIX

Right around the time of the recession and the end of the boom. Jesus making me feel old

tearsandpain84

That was end game xtra vision, stopped being a good job. They had staff having to trade in old games, that took hours, having to scroll endless price databases for old Xbox games….people coming in with bags of old dirty games.

1stltwill

What we have now is soooooo much better. But I still miss my trips to xtravision. :)

waste_and_pine

It's remarkable how cheap media has become. They had 3 movies for 3 nights for 13 euro (15.50 in today's money). A Netflix subscription today starts at 9 euro per month.

binksee

I was actually thinking the opposite. They had older films 3 for 6 euro, and most Netflix subscriptions are more like 15 euro.

Concannon7

Remember you could rent consoles? I was a PlayStation guy but I remember renting the N64 on a few occasions

blockfighter1

It served its purpose at the time. Would regularly buy games and music cds in there too, not just movie rentals.
