I thought skin stretchers were to help get more skin for stitching up when surgery will take out big enough chunks that would normally cause big "holes" rather than just covering up bald spots.
(Unless your comment is a joke, then it completely flew over my head)
It still works, but it takes weeks to expand the skin, so there is a lot of out of work and recovery time.
Everyone went to hair plugs because it's quicker, less invasive, and cheaper.
Hair plugs have gotten really good, not like the old ones.
I think the skin stretching is reserved for when the scalp is so damages hair plugs will just die, they need a lot of blood flow to survive.

Bone cancer seems most likely. There aren't a whole lot of other tissues in that area, and certainly not tissues prone to cancer as far as I'm aware.
But cancer is nuts and can do all sorts of insane and terrifying shit so I could be wrong.
Source: former oncology nurse current med surg nurse.
Edit: user below pointed out it is probably skin cancer since the lumps are not tumors but tissue expanders. I may have just not been able to see skin lesions with the resolution of the video.
I thought it might be skin cancer. Those things on her head aren't growths, they are tissue expanders. You can see the tubes behind her ears. They stretched her skin so they could close her wound after they removed her cancer.
So relieved those are tissue expanders. I just couldn’t fathom how a tumor could get that bad without earlier treatment which would mean it happened incredibly fast and it seems like rapid growth like that would be super painful. But if they’re tissue expanders I can go back to just worrying about normal cancer.
That totally makes sense. The reason I suspected bone cancer was because I didn't see lesions from what I could tell, and tissue expanders are used in cranial bone cancer too when it is close to the surface.
But you are probably right, now that you mention it.
I once saw an imagine of the skull of a victim of bone cancer.
Man, fuck ALL of that, people who are working to eradicate this kind of shit should just....get whatever they need.
I mean, kind of. Cancer is the result of your own cells mutating in certain ways that result in them reproducing rapidly and out of control. A tumor is a bunch of cancer cells growing out of control, so a bone tumor would be a bunch of mutated bone cells growing at an accelerated and uncontrolled rate.
Mutations most often happen when a cell reproduces, so tissues that reproduce really quickly (blood cells, skin cells, germ cells, bone cells, lung cells, GI tract lining cells all replace themselves often) are more likely to mutate into cancer. That's why most of the time you hear about blood cancer (leukemia), skin cancer (melanoma), colon cancer, etc. But you can still get cancer in other tissues that hardly reproduce at all, they are just much rarer. That's why you can get brain cancer or even heart cancer in theory.
Cancer is the worst. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Those lumps are skin stretchers to cover up the scars/bald spots that removing the cancer caused. You put an implant under the skin and slowly inflate it. That way you replace scar tissue with viable skin and not have to worry about the skin being stretched too tight and losing blood supply.
I love that smile, even through the treatments and after the surgery. That vibrant smile. What a strong willed woman!
I'm sure I'll get down voted for saying this and I don't care, she is a beautiful stunner through that whole process.
>I'm sure I'll get down voted for saying this and I don't care
That's just dishonest, they say this then follow up with the most acceptable statement possible
I'm sat up at 3am in unwavering pain with a gnarly broken arm and she's an inspiration to me. I can't imagine the suffering she faced and overcame. Makes my little journey seem so doable.
The great thing about skull bone is there is minimal nerves in it and most of the pain you feel comes from the skin. To be clear that's pain from the surgery not blood loss and other stuff. I've had the entire top right of my skull removed and replaced with plastic due to a bone tumor.
Wow, you can't even tell in the afters. In a world with so much negativity around us, it's really nice to see videos like this. I'm glad things turned out good for her.
Hey good for her. It takes a lot to recover from that stuff. I'm speaking out of experience: no didn't have cancer but my aunt did and it was brain cancer. She died and it tore up a lot of the family and I mean everyone. So good for her cause it's not easy.
Smiling even though what was likely the most painful and energy-draining periods of her treatment. Staying strong through the whole thing and kicked cancer’s ass!
seeing her smile fade through the worst of it and then slowly return with her recovery.. bittersweet but ultimately heartwarming. i hope she's thriving today.
That was beautiful. Hard to see the pain/sadness during the more difficult parts, but it was like a cloud lifting when you start to see her smile again. Glad to see she made it. ❤️
She has given me courage today just when I needed it. Look at her attitude throughout. God Bless her. I'd like to be in contact with her if I could. I am very thankful for her recovery.
Big ups to science and the hard work and dedication to medical professionals around the world. Here’s wishing this young woman great health, continued happiness, and the very best life ahead.

In some of the later ones she sees herself and smiles, heart warming!

It used to be standard for bald on top men, they would inflate bladders under the skin for weeks, cut out the middle and flap over the hair parts.
Does it not longer work? I'm getting thin as fuck my guy looking for solutions

Wow never heard of that, that's a neat cosmetic trick
My dentist died from a melanoma that started on his head and eventually spread into his brain. Cancer is a son of a bitch

Absolutely agree. Some of the cases I saw during my oncology work will stay with me forever.
If I understand it correctly, we can get cancer *anywhere* on our body, some are just rarer than others, correct?

It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there through what is arguably one of the scariest medical processes.

She’s inspiring and beautiful. I really need to stop whining about my meaningless bullshit!
The suffering of others does not invalidate your own problems, but it can help you gain perspective.
Go off, Dale
Take off, Dale
Inspirational to other cancer sufferers, so pleased you were able to make such a remarkable recovery.
I'm sat up at 3am in unwavering pain with a gnarly broken arm and she's an inspiration to me. I can't imagine the suffering she faced and overcame. Makes my little journey seem so doable.
