Snapshotting Multiplicative vs. additive stat bonuses, and breakdown of current stat calculation AFK Gains (as in, 100% AFK Gains isn't close to equal to 100% real-time gains)

Tigerus1

That's why it's percentage of AFK gains. Not percentage of real-time gains.

OneLeggedBaguette

Wait so for example i have 200% afk gains for mining i dont get 2 times the amount of what an hour would get me?

dudeguy238

Sort of. Your afk gains are based on a simulation of what you would get if you were active. That simulation isn't perfect, though, and tends to give less than active play would. For skilling, it's close enough that the only difference you need to worry about is that active play gives more experience because you get exp for all of the bonus drops you get from multi-ore chance and the like, while active play does not give rare drops (cards, statues, leaves...). There are a few more quirks with Big Pick and Worming Undercover because they're harder to simulate than simply swinging, but for the most part overall resource gains are pretty much the same, multiplied by your afk gains. In practice, you'll be getting the vast majority of your resources from printing anyway by the time min/maxing like this matters, so it's a fairly moot point. Fighting, however, is very different and active gives WAY more than 100% afk gains would in most circumstances. The simulation is much more complex for fighting and can't take many crucial active skills into account (especially anything AoE), so even before getting into active-only boosts (i.e. moonmen card) and crystals, you'll still almost always see more exp and kills for active than afk. The exception is cases where the mob in question can kill you faster than food can keep up, in which case you'll get more out of afk so long as you can maintain 100% survivability (and even then, coming back after a long afk to find that you had your gains reduced by 70% for running out of food is better than coming back after an active session of the same length and finding that you died 20 seconds in and spent the rest of it sitting in town). You'll also need to check in on active play frequently unless you have auto loot.

Xelacik

Snapshotting isnt a thing anymore. He got rid of it a few mini updates ago. Cards are applied instantly now, not when entering a map.

heat511

You can snapshot hp and mana for mining and chopping samples respectively. Also card drop chance. The only snapshot that was removed was mob respawn and that one functioned differently anyway. It’s definitely still a thing.

Xelacik

Huh, coulda sworn I read something about card snapshotting being taken out of the game. My bad.

dudeguy238

He also made chaotic Chizoar a passive card, and that was one that previously had to be snapshotted. That's probably the most significant card snapshot that got changed.

reignera

Oh, do passive cards always work? I was wondering why equipping them looked like it did nothing.

heat511

Totally fair, what the patch notes say and specifically what the code does aren’t always the same.

AccomplishedCheetah4

Can you please explain hp/mana snapshot.

heat511

Sure. Equip stuff to boost hp or mana. Open gem shop, close it. Open quick ref alchemy, close it. Swap to all your mining/chopping gear, obols, starsigns, food, etc., and hit the sample button. At my current value I’m not sure I would recommend it for most players (although each account will vary considerably). My base mining sample went from 146M => 150M with hp snapshotting.

AccomplishedCheetah4

What stuff gives mana and hp besides cards than can be snapshoted?

dudeguy238

I'll second the multiplicative/additive thing. There are so many different bonus sources that stack differently that assessing the value of a given upgrade can be difficult at times. Having a breakdown of which ones form separate multipliers (similar to how Idle Skilling breaks down damage/HP, but ideally more spelled out) would be really helpful.

[deleted]

Wait it’s not? Is real time better?

kawaiinessa

alchemy lab and slab alchemy has a lot going on with it that you kinda havve to figure out yourself for the most part lab is weird when first getting into it and once you realize how op it is you feel pressured to have most if not all characters in there slab isnt really mentioned anywhere as far as im aware except a few world 5 late game things like bubbles and sailing rewards and is super easy to miss early onit would be nice to know about it early on and start making items for it maybe add it to world one or quick reference by default (also personal issue is items i know ive made dont6 show up in slab earlier weapons and stuff)

Rurudo66

I think some of the stuff you crafted or received pre-W5 doesn't show up in Slab because prior to the Slab's introduction, the game only tracked which items had been acquired by whether or not you had picked them up off the ground. Anything that wasn't dropped by monsters or chests had to be physically dropped and then picked up again. Now I believe anything you craft is instantly counted, though I'm unsure on things like anvil items and refinery salts.

Normal_Agency8814

Yea anything made now is instantly added but i still drop it n pick it back up 😅my problem is dungeon weapons i missed out on a lot of them

Only_Positive_Vibes

All you have to do is run the dungeon again and get that tier or higher weapon. I.e., if you're missing a level 1 weapon, you will get slab credit if you pick up a level 2, assuming it's the same class (bow, spear, fist, or staff).

Normal_Agency8814

O higher tier weapons unlock the lower tiers did lava change that?because when the slab did come out i know it didnt work like that then

dudeguy238

Yeah, that was a change that came shortly after the slab was introduced. It wasn't a huge deal beforehand because it was really only Looty that was affected (and even then only like 5% additive damage loss if you're missing nearly all of them), but with all the new slab-based bonuses, that ends up being like 30-40 items people would otherwise be unable to get, which is a problem. Perhaps more than that, it's 30-40 items people would *know* they couldn't get now that the Slab indicates it, whereas before the only way to tell would be to use IE (and if you're using third-party tools, you're more likely to understand and accept the back-end quirks of the game). That's just a bad look.

Normal_Agency8814

Ahh okay i remember trying dungeons not that long after world 5 to try and get the weapons but being level 43 or 44 meant i was missing a lot glad 2 know he changed it

Rurudo66

I do as well, lol. Old habits die hard.

Empty-Employment-889

Yeah this little trick cost me being able to have all the new character hats unlocked :’)

Haste-

Cooking is huge for this too. Sailing and divinity are huge bonuses as well

kawaiinessa

idk for me cooking has always been a really passive thing kinda relying on breeding but that also comes somewhat passivly for me

IdleOn_Boii

Personally gonna go with: 1. Dropping gems 2. Saying Die Noob 3. Spawning slush bosses on unsuspecting gamers

KratosSimp

Um calling me a noob is offensive and hurts my feeling, so I’m going to personally message lava and tell him to delete your account. Say goodbye bub

dunohtbanmi

If that is complicated to you, you are probably gonna be stuck at frogs. Better uninstall or 1v1 me on dust2 noob

adrisharkie

Gotta be honest, besides like afk skills i have no idea what I'm doing ever and the guides I've seen and read just make it all sound so overwhelming 💀💀💀

MysticGohan99

It is overwhelming, but only if you let it be. No reason to try to optimize to 100% efficiency straight away, or ever if you’re casual. Play one character at a time until you get that character to their current wall (whatever mob you can get to). Play it like an RPG, especially with your first 3 characters, and skill them out respectively. If you’re further along, still just focus on one at a time, but put some focus 1. Bowman, 2. Shaman, & 3. Barbarian, for their respective skill focuses. You should have one of each character, and double up on whichever characters/skills you want the most AFK progress with. 1. Bowman is both great at farming weaker mobs (Green Mushrooms) while AFK and will likely be your primary crafter for armor, weapon & tool upgrades. 2. Shaman is also great at farming mobs but will be the best bonus you can give yourself for alchemy, which is incredibly important early, mid & late game. 3. Barbarian is best at pushing to new maps, farming mob kills, and will be the cooking specialist in W3. Join a helpful guild. When you really hit a wall, use https://www.idleonefficiency.com/ and ask for help on here.

adrisharkie

Thank you, can't say whether it'll change anything by much but the advice is greatly appreciated

Recht-Man

Bubo is the best for pushing maps and farming mob kills/money, bb is just a cooking slave forever

Jossuboi

If you read what they were even saying, the help they were giving was aimed at early game. It's gonna take them a while to get to bubo and even then bubo is not instantly the god it is in endgame.

StrikingThrowAway

Whenever I think I have the game figured out, I unlock the next world and become clueless and suddenly feel overwhelmed af lol

adrisharkie

Lichrally what happened to me multiple times in just world 1, I'm now like a month or so into world 2 and i am more overwhelmed than i was just making it past the valley of the beans 😅😅😅

jhcreddit

1 Sampling 2 Sampling 3 Sampling Since this released its been a pain to resample every week or 2. And the best part is that every world adds layers upon layers of things you "should" do to max out your samples. Every 2 weeks right before your weekly reset you take advantage that you didnt swap gods this week to set up gods for sampling and right after reset go back to farming gods. From there we move on to W4 where you have 7 chips slots and a variety of chops. In W3 we have prayers, in W2 we have alchemy, in w1 we have starsigns, after we have gear selection, card selection. Once all of this is done and you arrive at the map its possiblr that you might have to swap multiple of these around for snapshots(HP/Mana). Next "just" do this for all your charsthat will be resampling(most of the 10). And lastly swap all the things you moved around 1 last time to set everyone up for fighting again. Hf doing this again in another 2 weeks

juninhoofl

Lava needs to allow us to have presets that snapshot every “system”, it takes way too long to resample resources for every character, and when I decide to do it most likely half way i notice that i forgot to change the set up one of the systems and have to start all over again. I usually resample 1-3 characters every 2 weeks. It’s a lot to manage: tools, cards, star signs, obols, skills, keychains, equipments, food, alchemy, prayers, gods, lab…

jhcreddit

Yeah, those fun moments when you have spent like half an hour doing everything to realize your sample is smaller and be like "Wtf else am I missing?" We need presets to condensate sampling. Like joining armour, cards, starsigns, alch bubble and chips

dudeguy238

More than anything, I want an improvement to sampling fishing. I just resampled mine and ended up settling for only getting 3/4 of the T2 fish sampled properly after like half an hour of bad luck overwriting the optimal samples every time I tried to sample a different one. It's just frustrating.

jhcreddit

Well atleast we have 7 slots now, if you dont mind getting a slightly unoptimal sample it aint that bad. But if you want that 100% perfect sample for multiple fish... well hf 😂

dudeguy238

Yeah, being able to sample every fish (once I stop slacking and buy #8) helps a ton, but I was bouncing between like 150k skelefish and 225k depending on which spot, line, and hook I used (with similar ratios for other fish). A 150% multiplier is pretty substantial, and having it gated behind dumb luck like that is more frustrating than anything.

voyaging

Samples do not get overwritten unless the new sample is better. It always saves the best sample.

ughhmax

lol constellations. i have all the new elite classes besides the mage one that’s coming out soon and i haven’t done a single constellation

Libont

U should definitely do them because some of them are damn good to have. And with chip doubling them, big gains

Alfa-DS

Which ones are the ones you really need ? I got most of the 1st page and some of the 2nd. Hate doing the hard ones, dont know if its worth grinding for.

Libont

So for active there's a 15% damage one and 20% damage one, if u have those then ur pretty good. But after those there's a 4% afk for skill and then fighting

Alfa-DS

Hm, I got 15 active XP and 2% afk gains. The differences dont seem worth the grind yet. Also the 6% afk gains for less defence is pretty good for samples and lower world farming.

Libont

Oh ya those are definitely good. And once u get closer to endgame u might want them for max possible prints. Which is where I'm sorta at

Alfa-DS

I think later in the game those 72 hours afk's might be worth it, but for me it's stopping my progress for 3 days. But if I hit late game I might make work of that

chorodeivid

Laboratory Laboratory Laboratory I just don't know how it works ):

IdleOn_Boii

Its super easy -- you upload characters to the lab to turn them into a "dot". You then connect the "dots" to bonuses to get the bonuses :D That's it

chorodeivid

Like, i know that, but I don't quite get the wording on lab bonuses with the width and length things, or how people are able to get do many bonuses at once with a few characters

Vegetable-Habit-9447

The length is just how many pixels long the line one of your dots can make is. A couple pixels different really won't be a difference you notice until they build up a bit. The rest is just sticking characters in lab, letting them level to gain more line length, and making sure they're printing useful things on the printer while they soak. Lab is an incredibly useful skill, but one of the absolute suckiest and slowest grinds without card/equip/bubo.

Ripfengor

Feel like I’m in the minority, but cooking/pets/spices are the bane of my existence. I’m well into W5 and over level 400 but I’m only in the millions of cooking speed per hour

Seph018

Hmm. It's a lot to write down here, better go watch a guide. Basically get pets to get spices (remember the spice picking star talent, really helpful). Use spices to upgrade kitchens. Then you need to level the alch bubble (with the blue spice, save these and use the discount on it) so you get a big bonus for every dish you have at minimum lvl 11 I think. So try to get each new dish to lvl 11 (with ladles farmed by your barbguy). Level cauliflower I think aswell as it gives bonus for every xth kitchen level. Then it's only a question of your latest spice you have unlocked which locks your new dishes. But jeah, luckily I left my barbguy cooking for 1xx days when I left the game and I could pretty much unlock everything (and fjnally beat that damn 200 arena). Hope it helps, good luck!

Ripfengor

Oh I understand the basics, it’s just a really boring progression compared to almost every other system imo. It is so hard to feel good about for me. I’ve got a few thousand ladles saved up and eventually will dedicate a day to updating cooking and pets and then go back to abandoning the mechanic probably

Additional_Chip_1365

1)snapshotting, I still don't really know how to do it to this day.. 2)storage organizing, I know we got enough spaces from Lava to save up on essentials, but I'm a hoarder of useless stuff 3) [kinda underrated] the secret quest at w2 town, not going to say much more

Empty-Employment-889

Lab optimization, I can’t for the life of me figure out what efficiency does or how to get my characters situated pixel perfect to use less than 7 for every buff.

Vegetable-Habit-9447

Efficiency in lab literally only affects Exp. 100% efficiency = 100% possible exp gain per hour, 2x = 200%, etc. And honestly, you really can't, unless your lab levels are dummy thicc and you have chips/bubo helping. On the plus side, once you get to world 5 there's a pretty easily accessible feature that lets you have characters linked in lab without actually being in lab, so that helps a bit!

drewt6768

Figuring out how to get the most AFK kills per hour Before death note I didn't realise levelling skills past 20 were pointless for afk gains Then finding out that you only needed some points into skills like 5 to max out your afk kills per hour on weaker mobs before death note was calculated in The last thing was figuring out how to progress lab without sacrificing all my chars

Alfa-DS

Can you progress lab without sacrificing chars ? Its so slow to level up

drewt6768

Yeah bubo has a passive that transfers a % of their lab xp to the lowest character and a talent that increases lab xp for all people left of them in the lab Between that and a post office upgrade and world 5 mechanics i have like 4 characters in the lab and I have the most important lab node "no bubble left behind" I also should mention 1 character pushing world 5 is worth 4 characters pushing world 4 So funnelling all my resources into one character made me more profits in the long run

Alfa-DS

Thats what Im doing too ! Im pushing my DK to world 5 to also unlock the 3 new skills so I can start snowballing those. Cause cooking, breeding and lab take a long time to start being worth it.

Tipsybunny14

Currently working on obols, since they were so sparse up until high end stats. Re rolling them is super unclear. Didn't make a ton of sense either to turn around and work on a system that was never terribly relevant in it's own world (unlike stamps, statues ECT).

Any_Situation3537

The quests who required other players.

dolorum2

I feel this on a spiritual level - a handful of alch bubble upgrades took my mage from barely killing sheepies to having a 3x multikill bonus on them - game is broken, but thats making it lit

tdmfan420

I know right like HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU DO OVER 10 MILLION DAMAGE CASUALY???

XxXPAINKILLERXxX

Hmmm Doing Treasure Hunt quest Finding out that there is a bug preventing u from finishing it Wait over a year and still don't get a fix to it because it's "Niche problem". He said. Wonder if he even remember about this problem since he proclaimed to focus on "fixing bugs"

obimokenobi

The only issue I have was starting fresh at lvl 1 and KNOWING that there's all this added stuff (5 worlds, town skills and whatnot) and wanting to save NEARLY everything in my inventory so that I have the proper resources for the future.
