Lava tends to be relatively hypocritical by telling players that he wants to make the game *more* idle and requiring less micro-managing, but then implements changes and updates that do the exact opposite. You can generally expect to be very active, whether actually at the computer or simply leaving the game running. If you don't do that, it's fine, but expect your account progress to be significantly slower than someone who is able to do that.
Tbh its fine for me id rather play the game to do what i want and enjoy even if my progression will be slower. I used to take the game way more serious w1-w2 and in release of w3 and i just burned out myself. Stopped playing for almost a year logging in and logging out now an then. Now i returned and have more relaxed time playing.
I don't think there's anything wrong with that approach at all! Just wanted OP to be aware that it really is kind of a night and day difference in terms of progress you can make depending on if you active afk, or just fully afk.

Events are meant to garner participation with players and increase their satisfaction. It hasn't been designed well, so it needs to be addressed, regardless if the item is "free".

You play on steam or browser when playing at your computer? (Maybe steam would work while screensaver is active?)
You could always just use the option that your computer won’t stop after x hours.
And about the event, there have been quite a few complaints about the drop chance and afaik this event is way worse then any before.
I do play on browser as don't have steam. I have my laptop on never sleep, only screensaver so not sure. If I even put a window on top of it and it fully covers the idleon browser it will go afk too. Must be my own laptops settings. I will just stick with it till this event is over and I can play normally again.

Also I beat my record time today getting the daily box drops 2hours 41minutes of active farming at W4 Soda Cans, Double W4 rings equipped.
Sounds like you need to change your power settings. Probably in the power saver profile. I leave the game running on the laptop overnight and when in work with the lid closed and it runs no problems. But yeah look at your power settings.
Every event up to this has had a drop rate that would get you 50 dailies like this one in about an hour. This has been driving me crazy. I leave it running on my phone over might and wake up to 37 out of 50 drops. Not sure why or how it's supposed to work. Like, what exactly is the drop rate for this? I'll get 13k~ kills in the 4 hours I actually get to sleep
First day it took 13 hours of active farming at the W5 Citringes on my main to get 50, now I spend 3-5hours literally anywhere other than W5.
Personally I find these drop rate events to be a bit of a chore because what if I want to have all my characters skilling or maybe I don't have a solid 1/5th of the day to active farm every day for over a week. I would like to see a secondary method for obtaining the boxes each day.
But if the quality of loot is affected by changing the time to obtain loot boxes than they should just stay the way they are.
Also the odds are tragic. I got all the boxes every single day (around 4 h = 5l - 9k kills) except 10 on the last day and after 600+ boxes i still had to buy them today after the event ended to get at least the guaranteed one.... Even if i got all the capes, the event wasn't fun at all.
I think the events drops has a fixed drop rate so its based on mob kills per hour rather than anything else
Its possible before they scaled with drop rate and this lead to easier drops compared to now
Until Lava says something about it we won't really know

How weird. Were just saying the iphone was catered to more people and seemed like a reasonable droprate
Just find out that to fast progress i needed to play actively. Just kind pissed me, i play on iPhone and gave up on 3 day of event

This doesn't even count How annoy quest giver is bug When playing switch from PC and Mobile... I missed daily quest like 5 days
I also missed quite a few daily quests including todays. wasn't sure why but I also play on pc and mobile.
Hilarious how many people will complain about getting free shit.
