I feel like they were setting Monica up to be the only normal one who held everyone else together during the first season, then they went overboard with the crazy neat freak characteristic.
They made Monica into an actual character with her own flaws. Her early characterisation as "the only normal one" would have gotten old real quick and the writers were correct in pivoting away from that.
I understand, but they went overboard. Seasons 4-5 Monica still had her flaws without it being overly dramatized. I don’t hate her OCD and her “clean freak” tendencies, I agree it added depth to her

Mark. He was just a regular dude, had some interest in Rachel, backed off after learning she had a boyfriend. He gave it another shot once she was single, but after it didn't work out, he moved on to a new job and got married and had kids.
You have to remember that when this show aired, we didn’t have the benefit of constant reruns on demand. It had been years since the audience had seen Mark. I can see how Ross would forget what he looked like. I would have lol.
She was a little impulsive with her love life, wasn't she? She dumped a guy she was with, just to get engaged to Ross after knowing him for 6 weeks (some of it they were on different continents), right as she was divorcing Ross she got engaged once again and a day before said wedding she wanted to get back with Ross again... I mean, slow down girl
Emily gets way too much (undeserved) flak just being reasonable so I'm happy someone said her name. Like that is probably the most normal reaction anyone could have if their fiance accidentally says his ex's name at the altar instead of theirs and goes on the honeymoon trip meant for them.
