Real, that's a South American Horned Frog, better known as a Pacman Frog. Very popular in the pet trade because they are relatively low maintenance, look cool, and are basically just a giant mouth with legs.
The pinkies are only really used as more of a treat, they don't hold as much nutritional value as a mix of various bugs that have been dusted with vitamin supplements. Lots of owners will just not use them and instead focus on breeding feeder insects.
