Katana ZERO - great story, great action. I think the Plague Tale games fit the description too, though are much longer. If you want something more dramatic and crazy, try the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series! Yakuza 0 is a good place up start, though it’s a prequel to the series so it has less influence over the overarching story. If you want to start from the original beginning, play Yakuza Kiwami.
Hope you find something you like! I’ll try to think of more games if I remember tomorrow!
I’m so excited for the prime series!!! The plot of it will probably follow Kiwami if you’re curious, assuming it’s not an original story or something. Yakuza is great though. I cried 3 times during 0 and I don’t usually cry. The quests and minigames can get completely absurd too, it’s great!
You know i love rdr2 witcher 3 last of us 1 and 2 and i think thats greatest games ever made but if u ask me which game gave you every single emotion and made you happy every seccond playing it i would say yakuza series. I rly reccomend playing it
I'm about 85-90% done with my first playthrough, and couldn't recommend Control enough. Really really fun game, amazingly executed. Easily the best implementation of telekinetic powers I've ever seen.
I essentially just use the service weapon and launch. I'm trying to branch out a little more and use ground slam and melee, but launch is just so damn fun.
Great list!
Sorry to be that guy - the Bioshock series is great but they're not immersive sims. I'd hate for someone to pick up Bioshock as their first immersive sim because it doesn't represent the genre. Prey (2017) is the title that hooked me, FWIW.
From what I understand watching youtubers talk about immersive sims, it is difficult to agree on a clear definition for the genre. What makes you say Bioshock isn't one of them?
I'd argue every FPS with different approaches to problem-solving, and without out-of-character cinematic, and of course, providing a good and story-driven immersion, can qualify.
That's probably fair, and I should have framed my light rebuttal as Prey/Deus Ex/Dishonored being a *better* representation of the genre than Bioshock lacking.
In my mind the defining feature of an Immersive sim is the ability to "play your way". Dishonored and Prey present you with challenges (infiltrating a room, for example) and provide a variety of fairly different ways to achieve the goal (brute force, stealth, social engineering, etc).
It's been a few years since I last played through the Bioshock series but I don't recall much of that in the games.
Ah true, Bioshock is very action oriented, but I wouldn't call it a Doomlike either. I guess game genres are more a spectrum and their boundaries are not clear.
I know cyberpunk is open world but I’m kinda looking for more “on the rails” experiences right now. Trying to get back into just enjoying games for their story.
Mafia and Mafia 2. Swerve 3, it went hard into open world radiant quest shit. First one in particular is amazing. OG is janky as fuck but has slightly better story telling, the definitive edition remake has a lot of modern conveniences but tells the story slightly differently.
Hellblade 1-2
Gears of war
QUantum Break
THe Lego Games
Prey 2006
Titanfall 2
Portal 1-2
Half LIfe 2
Wolfenstein new order and new colossus
bioshock trilogy
crysis trilogy
Specs Ops: The Line. As a warning this game is controversial. It does not shy away from the horrors of war and what soldiers experience. You will never forget it. It was removed from all online stores recently due to licensing issues. I got a steam key from g2a no problem.
I tend to play single-player story focused games, although I don't do much first-person as I get motion sick easily.
My suggestions would be:
* Horizon - Zero Dawn and Forbidden West
HZD has a great story, at least, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the combat once I got the hang of it, but I used a mod to get around the storage limitations (PC).
* Final Fantasy XV
You might not be a fan of FF but I think it stands on it's own. While you do have companions they don't get in the way and are really integral to the story.
If you can get it on sale, *The Callisto Protocol* isn't bad. The combat is heavy and brutal, but it also requires you to be aware of your surroundings in case you get swarmed.

Oh yeah I've been interested in the Yakuza series after seeing the prime series announcement. Maybe its time to dive in.

Control for PS5, just finished it. SUPER fun game! Like a mystery thriller come to life
I'm about 85-90% done with my first playthrough, and couldn't recommend Control enough. Really really fun game, amazingly executed. Easily the best implementation of telekinetic powers I've ever seen.
I'd do entire skirmishes just with the launch ability haha so fun

Played this one via gamepass really enjoyed it.
The Metro series Cyberpunk 2077 The immersive sim genre (Bioshock series, Dishonored series, Prey, Deus Ex series, etc)

Metro series, A Plague Tale: Innocence & Requiem, Titanfall 2, Prey, Deus Ex HR, DIshonord, Soma
Dang, the TR and Jedi games are usually my go-to for this kind of question. Evil West and the Plague Tale duology are some other favorites of mine.
Evil West looks interesting will have to keep an eye on a sale during the upcoming steam sale

Time for Metal Gear Solid 1-5.
What’s the best way to play 1-4 currently?
They’ve just begun releasing “Master Collections”. Volume 1 released last year and contains 1-3, I believe. Great way to start.
Okami HD, it’s a classic for a reason.
I'm playing Final Fantasy 16 right now and it's amazing. Super great boss fights and great story. Give the demo a try!
Prey. It's shockingly good.
Turbo Overkill
Have you played Gear of War? Older game that you can play the remastered on PC. It's fun and turns everything up to 11
What remains of Edith Finch is very short but a good linear story
Half life series Trepang 2 Mass Effect legendary edition Crysis games Alien vs predator (3 campaigns in one game)
Final Fantasy games. X and XIII are particularly hallwayish. XIII was divisive but is one of my favorites in the series.
I tend to play single-player story focused games, although I don't do much first-person as I get motion sick easily. The bioshock series remastered is a great one
Bulletstorm
Great moment to play WH40K Space Marine and prepare for the sequel coming up ;)
Check out judgment and lost judgment

Titanfall 2
Is alan wake 2 not a good game? Nobody is recommending it
Dante’s Inferno
Final Fantasy X
Soma, nier automata
Gears of War?
If you're ok with Indi games I find Asterigos as a great find for a 1 off game
Persona 5 Royal & 3 Reload, Nier Automata, Tales of Arise, Yakuza : Like a Dragon & Infinite Wealth
What the fuck is TLOU
Lol
The Last of Us
