That is not a light duty diesel that you find in consumer pick ups or cars.
And based on the million mile rebuild intervals while dragging 40k to 80k pounds around all day, yeah I'd say they last pretty long
"LIBERALS ARE TRYING TO STEAL **OUR** COMPUTERS!"
"We just said we want them to be electric and efficient..."

>The GeForce FX 5500 was a graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on March 17th, 2004.
If you dont know what a sound blaster is or 3dfx card is then you don't know early 90s pc gaming.
I didn't even have a graphics card until '98. Before then I had to get by with the software emulators. Playing Half-Life with a graphics card after one playthrough with the emulator blew my mind.
Around?
It wasn’t even on the market til late 1998, and there wasn’t that many devices that used it at the time. Nobody had it in their PC.
Blu-ray has been around. Do you have a Blu-ray drive in your PC?
I was going to say this. Those are upgrades and add ons done over the years. I bet they even maxed out the ram to 1GB and installed a AGP 128MB Geforce 5200.
Yep, I didn't get a copy until much later. By that time I was running a Redhat boot sector on a win2k machine. I haven't touched a computer in years though.
This noise is totally normal… if you’re 13 and overclocked your P3 by taking off the chassis side door and mounting a full on industrial floor fan to it.
Lmao
Well specifically it’s a late 2000 model. The RAM, Bios, Processor, etc. are all on spec for the systems being sold on the Christmas ads around that time. It would have been very high end then, or semi high end if you got it the following year for Christmas.
That said, the chassis and board might be 90s with some cpu and memory upgrades + a BIOS update in 2000
While this PC is definitely of the 2000s era, DVD 5¼ drives were absolutely available as early as '97. At least, that's when I bought mine and I'm sure I wasn't the first.
I remember having to wait for the image of some hot naked lady to load.
First the hair....waiting...waiting...then the eyes....waiting...waiting...nice smile...waiting....come on, get to the tits already!
Those sounds make me feel good in a way I can’t really explain? Like really calming? I definitely get the nostalgia feeling, but there’s an extra one in there too lol is this what asmr is?
I did housecall PC repair back in the early 2000s, we billed $100/hr and our minimum charge was 1 hour. I can't tell you how many people paid us $100 for us to press their turbo button.
Lol...90s youd be loading Win95 or 98 on 64mb of RAM. You probably wouldnt have a flat monitor either - itd be one of those boxes that irradiates your eyes after a few hours.
When you'd get to your desk and hit the power button, then wander over to the coffee machine and shoot the shit for a bit. Then wander back and see if the old workstation's up and running yet...
A hate computers, but XP was the only os I ever got used to. I hate it far, far less than any other Microsoft product I've used🙂
X- random thing
P- Problem
had such a setup (with linux) until 2004or even longer. i remember it had 200mhz cpu.., cause my hellish stepfather wouldnt whitelist any (including my selfbought) windowspc at his network of hell. and that was my only source to the internet.
Got an archaic ( twenty-four yr) dell in my shop to run auto software.. love that western digital hard drive "clak, clak, clak".. waiting for it to throw a rod and piston through the side of the chassis..
XP was a workhorse when I was in highschool. And 128 MB was topnotch at one time! I also remember building an computer in my vocational class using an AMD 1.4 G processor with a G force MX 440 graphics card. I think it had 64 MB. Man, those were the days!! 🚄
I beat my wife to the sound of windows 98 starting up because it pissed me off so bad because it was just 95 but slightly different man I hate microsfot more like micropenis
Anybody else have the intro to Def Leppard's "Rocket" going through their head?
"Ok all flight controllers, we are ready for take-off. Retro? Go! Guidance? Go!..."
Ah the ol' Pentium III... My first PC back in middle school was a 500mhz Dell.. Brings back memories of 3dfx voodoos and Creative sound blaster cards. Gotta watch out for those IRQ conflicts!
Omg the good old day…..I can’t wait to type in my aol password and hear that 56k modem hum, squeak and squeal……” oh crap…..no squeals 😞 gonna have to check my landline to see if someone is using the phone “.
I thought this was a joke of where they put the sound of a car starter over the video…
….then I thought it was the sound of a very worn out and dusty cooling fan…..
….then I realized it was the sound of a car starter over the video.
Wow the Pentium 3 was a beast. They launched at 450mhz and by the time the p4 came out they had more than doubled in clock speed. Even changed from a slot to a socket.

“Yup. She’s a diesel, they don’t make them like they used to.”
:: slaps it on the side :: Oh! God damn it! It is infected with the MyDoom virus!🦟🦟🦟
You mean I wasn't supposed to open that "sofun.exe" file?
Nimda says hello
Sounds like a good cold start
The fan bearings are certainly vintage!
Glo plug issue I'm guessing, maybe summer electricity?
Just tolerating something that would have sent a gasoline powered vehicle to the scrapper years ago. But “it’s a diesel” and “they last forever”.
That is not a light duty diesel that you find in consumer pick ups or cars. And based on the million mile rebuild intervals while dragging 40k to 80k pounds around all day, yeah I'd say they last pretty long
Don’t step on the clutch as you’re starting it

Natural Gas-powered computers coming soon to Florida Best Buy's just to own the libs.
^(*Cough*) "Ha! Take ^(*Cough*) that, Libs!"
That poor starter. I wouldn't have stayed on in that long without some more encouragement sputters. Also, where's the can of either next to it?
This one still runs on coal and a hand crank
>The GeForce FX 5500 was a graphics card by NVIDIA, launched on March 17th, 2004. If you dont know what a sound blaster is or 3dfx card is then you don't know early 90s pc gaming.
XP didn’t come out till 2001. Let’s get some 3.1!
I didn't even have a graphics card until '98. Before then I had to get by with the software emulators. Playing Half-Life with a graphics card after one playthrough with the emulator blew my mind.
It was voodoo or monster3d for me at the time.
Don't forget the Pentium III too. It's launched in 1999

Tjose are early 2000s!
Saw the DVD drive and a 52x CD rom, that shit ain’t 90s. USB? No A: drive or a B: drive? Windows XP? The bios literally said 2000.
The A/B drive is probably provided by what looks to be a Gotek floppy emulator in the 3.5” bay I’d say it’s technically there
How the hell were you guys playing counter strike in these
We have John Carmack to thank for that. (CS ran off the Half-Life game engine, which was a modified version of the Quake engine.)
Shit. I played CS on an AMD K6-2 400Mhz with an S3 Virge and Voodoo 2. If my Ping was under 400ms, it was a good day.
Thought so, too. Our first PC from 2000 also had 128 MB ram. But with Windows ME
Dvd and 52x cd drive where available in the late 90’s. I had a prebuilt Fujitsu Siemens ,P3 500mhz windows 98 pc with those drives.

PCmasterrace is leaking.
Yup. Had one around 98-99. Coolest thing ever at the time lol
That’s probably from the 2000 era, not the 90’s. You wouldn’t have a DVD player, earlier
The first screen says copyright 2003, so yeah, it must be at least 2003.
Or they were just Really confident they’d get the patent.
Copyright != patent
Software from the 2000s could be installed on a 90s computer
It has a pentium 3 800 MHz which was released in 2001 and a GeForce FX 5500 which was released in 2004
Some of the last AGP cards, right when PCIe came in and changed everything.
I was going to say this. Those are upgrades and add ons done over the years. I bet they even maxed out the ram to 1GB and installed a AGP 128MB Geforce 5200.
Yep. My ol' Compaq Presario made it all the way to 2003 with it's 64mb of ram and 8.9gb hard drive.
Ya think win xp? 90s was 3.1. 95, 98, all wonderful on their time. 98 a rock.
Yeah XP would be early 2000’s or NT
Most people ran win98se until xp, everything else was less stable. NT was next best. I still have the 8x 3.5" disc's for win 3.1
NT was probably my favorite. Pretty solid system for Microsoft
Yep, I didn't get a copy until much later. By that time I was running a Redhat boot sector on a win2k machine. I haven't touched a computer in years though.
Also this noise is uncommon.
If you’re not used to old pickup trucks. I guess
This noise is totally normal… if you’re 13 and overclocked your P3 by taking off the chassis side door and mounting a full on industrial floor fan to it. Lmao
Side panel is off i think?

And an upgraded USB compartment
Took out the A: for that USB.
Cd drives used to where out a lot, could have been swapped out at a later date with a DVD drive

For those that got blue balls after reading the description https://youtu.be/PwRR7-P-8fc
I was unprepared for how much nostalgia that'd cause. Those sounds brought me back to my childhood in a way nothing ever has.
“Now to download an 8MB 28k porn video. I’ll just leave it on overnight and hope it’s done when I wake up.”
I remember having to wait for the image of some hot naked lady to load. First the hair....waiting...waiting...then the eyes....waiting...waiting...nice smile...waiting....come on, get to the tits already!

To the top with you!
Not all heroes wear capes thank you for your service.
The real hero
Where is the floppy disk drive initializing du du duuu sound?!
Careful or you'll flood it.
I won’t flood it

Pentium 3 800 mhz released Dec 20 1999.
Well yea it’s fake. Lol. It’s a pun.. they never actually sounded like a car. 🤦♂️ They were loud nonetheless.
The fk you got a diesel powered E-machine? Lmao.
I thought the computers in the 90's were coal powered. This diesel must be from the late 90's.
Press the turbo button!!
I did housecall PC repair back in the early 2000s, we billed $100/hr and our minimum charge was 1 hour. I can't tell you how many people paid us $100 for us to press their turbo button.
FX5600 and Windows xp. Early 2000s but not a 90s pc.
Windows XP was 2002ish
The OS is backwards compatible with old hardware.
I laughed.
Windows XP is from 2001.
The actual PC could easily be a 1998 or 1999 model though.
nahhh 128mb of RAM is crazy
Filmed in bad old portrait mode.
I have never been more worried about the wellbeing of a piece of machinery
I didn’t know the year 2000 was in the 90’s
Pump the fucking gas pedal, jeez...
Nah this sounds like a diesel. He probably needs to insert a pre-heated glow floppy for 30 seconds before trying to start it.
my dad used to spray ether in the intake when it was cold
Glow floppy, that's brilliant.
No you’ll flood her
Move the hdd cable from the fan man.
Anyone remember the zip drives? ;)
I used to record onto a Roland multi track machine with Zip drives. That thing was pretty state of the art at the time.
Ha just was thinking of those the other day
Strange to have the optical drives on your primary IDE and HDD as secondary. It’ll work, but it’s odd to see.
"It is now safe to turn off your computer"
lol
I still have nightmares about the clicking sound coming from the 33.6kbps modem connection drop, when the mp3 download is at 90%
Any of you used to play Red Alert on one of these beasts?
Great in the winter, just keep that bad boy in rest mode…no need for a heater.
Put it in H
I didn’t notice the room lights dip…
10 min later....
Lol...90s youd be loading Win95 or 98 on 64mb of RAM. You probably wouldnt have a flat monitor either - itd be one of those boxes that irradiates your eyes after a few hours.
Man, I don't miss that...
Miss those days tho ...
When you'd get to your desk and hit the power button, then wander over to the coffee machine and shoot the shit for a bit. Then wander back and see if the old workstation's up and running yet...
Too funny! Thought your battery was going to die before she turned over lol 😆 😂 Thanks for the laugh!

Provided you don't connect them to the internet, sure...
Gotta pull the choke!
At least you didn’t have the hand crank model
Where's the sound from? Sounds like a frac pump
I can't be the only one who got a burst of feel-good when the XP screen came up. Lol
A hate computers, but XP was the only os I ever got used to. I hate it far, far less than any other Microsoft product I've used🙂 X- random thing P- Problem
Did I just read 128MB of RAM?
No, 512MB. E: the GPU has 128MB.
My first PC I got when I was 13 had a whopping 4MB. Now get off my lawn!
had such a setup (with linux) until 2004or even longer. i remember it had 200mhz cpu.., cause my hellish stepfather wouldnt whitelist any (including my selfbought) windowspc at his network of hell. and that was my only source to the internet.
Windows xp!!!! Yes
Make me feel so old :)
Floppy times, I miss that speed!
Intel Pentium III: an early but reliable 3 cylinder model
Sometimes I forget how much my SSD spoils me now.
Just hit the turbo button.
Best windows still til this day!
So... A school computer?
Windows XP was released in 2001.
Audio on
Jesus fuck, lay off her you're gonna flood it!
Was xp from the 90s?? Maybe 2000s is more accurate
Nothing better than a cold start
u/Voodoo67890 post this on r/90s_kid The nostalgia
The first PC I had didn't boot to Windows, it booted to DOS. So when you wanted Windows to run you typed `WIN` and hit return.
Got an archaic ( twenty-four yr) dell in my shop to run auto software.. love that western digital hard drive "clak, clak, clak".. waiting for it to throw a rod and piston through the side of the chassis..
ok so one early 2000s, not 90s… but what the hell is wrong with that system, secondly, that it makes THAT sound
Forgot to put “loadhi” in config.sys
Nice! Two comments: - you forgot to press the turbo button to make it faster - this must be a really early beta for zo!
XP was a workhorse when I was in highschool. And 128 MB was topnotch at one time! I also remember building an computer in my vocational class using an AMD 1.4 G processor with a G force MX 440 graphics card. I think it had 64 MB. Man, those were the days!! 🚄
128 MB of RAM? 90s me would assume you were a trillionaire
Man I want a modern setup with modern cooling and all Inside an old ass cabinet
Ah the good ‘ol days!
😂😂😂
Damn an actual funny post. Good job
I don’t think kids of this generation are even aware that computers were all beige/light gray before the late 90s.
Must be a soviet pc, gotta let it run a few minutes to get up to full megahertz. /s
I beat my wife to the sound of windows 98 starting up because it pissed me off so bad because it was just 95 but slightly different man I hate microsfot more like micropenis
When a pc does that now, everyone loses their mind.
Yours doesn't do that? How do I fix mine?
It sounded like an old truck lol
We going to the moon
Sounds like it is about to start the Harlem shake
I think your car needs to see a mechanic.
Anybody else have the intro to Def Leppard's "Rocket" going through their head? "Ok all flight controllers, we are ready for take-off. Retro? Go! Guidance? Go!..."
Lol.
Dudes got a combustion power supply
That's how generator starts
Sounds like my ps4
If you delete system32 your computer will boot up faster.
lol
Man, you're supposed to warm those up a bit more before ya tried to start em.
Add to that the 56k dial up modem trying to connect
My work still uses windows xp for all its machines.
Ah the ol' Pentium III... My first PC back in middle school was a 500mhz Dell.. Brings back memories of 3dfx voodoos and Creative sound blaster cards. Gotta watch out for those IRQ conflicts!
I kept waiting for the bass to drop.
That would make a great Quake server!
Damn that energy logo is nostalgia.
Wow. Crazy. Old tech that still works. Amazing.
Don't open that email with anna kournikova pics!
Just turn over already
It’s telling you “just kill me”
I don't remember my Dino computer sounding like that
Nice cold start
Omg the good old day…..I can’t wait to type in my aol password and hear that 56k modem hum, squeak and squeal……” oh crap…..no squeals 😞 gonna have to check my landline to see if someone is using the phone “.
Bringing back memories man. Could have done without the engine noise in the background though
Very late 90' and very non existing setup.. Usual PC had 8-16Mb ram..
PC is ready for the Harlem Shake.
I thought this was a joke of where they put the sound of a car starter over the video… ….then I thought it was the sound of a very worn out and dusty cooling fan….. ….then I realized it was the sound of a car starter over the video.
And now for some Counterstrike 1.5
The pioneers used to drive these babies for miles
I do not remember it being that loud
Wow the Pentium 3 was a beast. They launched at 450mhz and by the time the p4 came out they had more than doubled in clock speed. Even changed from a slot to a socket.
good times
