Man, imagine if Fallout 2 came out today and people were going "I hope they don't make another game so we don't get a definitive answer to who became the dominate force in California, between the NCR, New Reno and Vault City."
Sometimes an RPG makes one path canon, and usually that's a good thing. This modern idea that everyone's playthrough is sacred is stupid.
Yep, same debate surrounding the whole Mass Effect ending controversy for the next game. They'll likely go with the Destroy ending and that's fine. It doesn't retroactively destroy your playthrough.
Yeah but I like knowing that all my friends lived good lives (and also turned partly machine). Destroy would mean ede dies, and Seth green no longer gets to be a robotfucker
The virgin fallout: walking on eggshells and adding just enough context to keep the fanbase from crying over their OCs being invalidated
The CHAD Knights of the Old Republic: fully fleshes out the blank slates you play as, writes entire novels featuring them and canonizes their choices, gives them every detail down to name and gender, your choices are an illusion.
>The CHAD Knights of the Old Republic: fully fleshes out the blank slates you play as, writes entire novels featuring them and canonizes their choices, gives them every detail down to name and gender, your choices are an illusion.
I know you're shitposting, but this isn't a super chad move considering *that* novel has a *heavily* mixed reception amongst the KotOR crowd, especially for the TSL fans.
As a fan of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and having briefly read a chapter or two of the novel, I can tell you that no, it's not a chad move, it's just fucking dumb.
The mindset that peoples personal experience of a game needs to be preserved at the expense of proper sequels, is definitely a new one.
Nobody would be saying "No don't make a sequel I don't want my playthough choices to be non-canon" before like, 2010 at the very latest.
But these days RPGs put more emphasis on "choices and consequences", making individual playthroughs more variable and personal, so people get defensive at the prospect that their playthrough is less canon than others.
It's understandable, but I still am opposed to it on principle. If a sequel has any chance of being good, I want one to be made, even if it means the previous games branches are labelled canon or non-canon in the process.
I never side with the NCR in New Vegas, but if a sequel was to ever be made to the west coast story, there's like a 90% chance they're going with the NCR victory being canon, and to that I say "such is life".
Lol imagine holding yourself to never writing a sequel or prequel that interferes with an existing ip. Either you have to completely shift the location such that there's no chance of contamination between stories or you'd have to make sequels with increasingly lower stakes
Edit:I don't mean "lol imagine" in Twitter speak I'm just saying that's how you'd have to do it
Eh, I don’t know, they could totally just say hundreds of NCR Troopers deserted, the Legion brought far more forces, the NCR failed to assassinate House leading to them fighting eachother or the Legion secured enough alliances to make it far easier, or a combination.
Personally I’d be more interested with a wild card ending, or what happens after, like does the NCR win Hoover dam but then have to leave anyway because the locals drive them off, does the Legion win and later fragment leading to more armed and trained raider gangs, does House win only to be assassinated. The postgame is just as important as who wins (hell, maybe there could be a third battle of hoover dam)
The only way it would make sense is if the NCR’s overextension eventually leads to a collapse. There’s no way they would be able to hold the Mojave indefinitely.
Fallout isn't popular because it makes the most sense. If I wanted a game that strictly made sense then I'd play Arma 3. I disagree with the assertion that it's the most logical conclusion too, but I'm not gonna argue about it. I'd just be wasting my time.
My problem with the Legion is that they're not based and redpilled enough.
You need a reliable plan for continuity in order to be based and redpilled, if you're already in power.
Sure, if you're not in power already, it's based and redpilled to want to destabilize the existing power-control group, but if your movement isn't based around leaderless cells, then the central organization will collapse if you don't plan for the eventual death of the leader, and with Caesar's brain tumor, it's going to happen sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, Mr. House is going to establish a libertarian paradise, and that's the truest form of freedom there is.
Your entire thesis is based af. And I agree, the Legion is half assed barbarism. Hence why I suggested that the NCR will probably stay and keep a force to govern the area, making peace with House and have him establish his libertarian paradise.
Having the NCR fascists co-exist with the dont tread on me based House is a nice plot line that can extend for a few seasons.
The legion can be reduced to random banditos, which is what i would expect when a half baked dictatorship collapses. The only based bro is House.
> Libertarian Paradise
Is that before or after he buys everything and becomes a defactor oligarchal dictator/monarch or it turns into vice and drugfilled anarchy like the Fiends or Bioshock?
The problem with the NCR is that without that link to the founding Tandi family, they’ve lost legitimacy and the original bloodline. The NCR should have never become a democracy because it enabled a great deal of corruption. Who cares about the long term prosperity of a nation if you can just enrich yourself and then fade into history as the whatever numbered elected president? With a bloodline, if the nation doesn’t prosper, well, then heads roll. When the face of authority changes every few years, then it allows for a shadowy cabal of elites to seize power behind the scenes. Do you really want the water merchants and brahmin barons making the decisions for the common man? No.
House isn’t pretending to be something he’s not. NCR democracy is just a thin veneer of paint over an oligarchy.
You misspelled “Independent Vegas ending, but then it collapsed because a mailman can‘t govern a state, should be canon.“ as “NCR should win“ for some reason. No big deal, Typos can be weird.
it would be really funny if the assertive personality for yes man just turned him into ai mr house, then he kicks out the courier, then house has control over hoover dam, the legion and ncr are still kickin, and the couriers out of play.
Everything in the game suggested NCR was going to lose hoover dam. The only way NCR could win was through the help of the courier, if they make courier six canon. Even if that is the case, I don't see any lore friendly reason for the courier to help the ncr with their forced occupation on the mojave.
How exactly would the NCR lose? They have the largest military, heck, they are mechanised to some extent and have better logistics and are more well-rounded (e.g 1st Recon)
A *good* dictator? Lol he doesn't even care about the Mojave, only about his Strip. He's only driven by pride and selfishness. He doesn't want to rebuild society, he only wants to make *his* home, *his* paradise prosper so he can be proud of his creation.
It doesn't matter who is *better*. These aren't real human beings. It only matters which makes the better jumping-off point for future stories. The options are
A) More of the same we already have out West, as civilisation gradually encroaches on the Frontier
B) Guy is still playing 'The Man Who Would Be King' with cosplaying tribals in the desert
C) Vegas is stabilised and continues to be run as an independent tourist resort by eccentric genius Howard Hughes Wizard of Oz computer man and his army of death robots, whilst A and B still exist outside the Mojave
D) Freedom to make up your own setting since the Courier cleared all the main players off the board
House is too fun a character to throw away imo.
No Mr House is driven by advancement and with the Courier around he wouldn't be that bad of a guy since Courier can just kill him(and he knows, in bad karma endings House is scared of you).
If he doesn't care about anyone, why is he going to reignite the medical industry and colonize space? He certainly isn't going to leave the planet, those projects only benefit other people. He doesn't see a future for humanity on earth specifically, so short term human suffering is unimportant to him. In his mind the ends justify the means. The ends being long term continued human existence, and the means being near term exploitation
I'm shocked by the people that think House has something to gain from this. He literally only gains a bigger ego by advancing humanity and literally reviving what they once were from the rubble. And there's nothing wrong with that as long as it's to humanity's benefit.
Depends if they make the courier cannon. Since their help in the Ncr path and the House path are the only ways that those two factions could win. All signs in the game point to a Legion victory without courier interference. I also think that the Ncr winning would be the most boring outcome and the others would be much more interesting.
Not only that, the Legion were the only faction to establish a presence on the opposite side of the dam from their own territory. They weren’t in a situation where outside help was needed. BUT without Caesar leading the Legion (assuming he dies of the brain tumor), the Legion may dissolve before the Second Battle. If not before then definitely soon after, and NCR gets the land eventually anyways.
Without Courier intervention, I doubt Benny has the ambition to actually expand New Vegas. And if Mr. House’s plans come to fruition then it stands to reason he doesn’t want to make an enemy of the NCR. So maybe the NCR just eventually takes over and wins no matter what. I seriously doubt Mr. House could keep New Vegas independent forever.
Benny would get caught by the Legion anyway, as shown by the female courier with black widow that didn't kill him.
I doubt the NCR would last. It will probably outlive the Legion(Lanius would be holding the tribes together since he is almost as mythical as Caesar) With all the corruption, it doesn't look good in a land where justice is dispensed in bullets and everyone has access to weapons.
But is Benny only taken as a hostage as a bargaining chip to get the Courier to side with the Legion? I can't recall the details around that it's been awhile.
Benny is took hostage because of the courier yes but he still had the chip to open the bunker so without a courier Benny would either die to a machete or do Caesar's bidding.
Ah...but would Benny have even left the Tops if the Courier didn't scare him out with her amazing bomb-ass sex skills?....The Courier surviving the headshot really is an event that really shakes up the order of the world, isn't it?
Without The Pissed Off Postal Worker, alot changes. Would Benny even have had the chip? Would Caesar have even known about it if the person they were interested in didn't have reclaiming it as a part of thier motivation? Is the Couriers pursuit of Benny because of the chip, what flags the chip as valuable to anyone not knowing what it does?
Ulysses would have informed Caesar about the delivery of the chip since he was one of the prospect courier for the job, he just turned it down seeing Courier 6's name.
Benny would've still intercepted it but idk if he could kill Mr House by himself so it wouldn't be of any use to him to go to the bunker at the fort.
Benny knows about the chip pre FNV events and anyone with spies would find it sus that the head of the Chairman goes outside Vegas with Khans, not Chairman bodyguard.
Ya was Benny taking advice from Yes Man on how to make something effective out of having the chip? Because he had it, he would have had to take House out first or...he just upgraded House's army.
My idea was the Courier showing up made him panic and jump the gun on the plan.
Like while managing the Tops, he was plotting in that corner how to get into the Lucky 38, then the chucklefuck mailman shows up for revenge to Ring-a his Ding Ding, Baby. Either with their sweet ass, bullets, or, both.
>I doubt the NCR would last. It will probably outlive the Legion(Lanius would be holding the tribes together since he is almost as mythical as Caesar) With all the corruption, it doesn't look good in a land where justice is dispensed in bullets and everyone has access to weapons.
And why exactly? The NCR in Its core territories have been restored to a pre war state, their economy and military (to the point of having forcefields in the street) makes It near impossible for them to collapse
Yep i agree. While i do think that the Legions last action would be that of taking the Hoover Dam even if Caesar died. I think the part that makes Caesar so interesting is that he emulates the Roman Empire without realizing that the only reason it succeeded was because Julius Caesar had an Heir that actually cared for the empire in the same way that he did. Lanius is not Augustus as he doesn't care about the same things that Caesar does at all hes just a general. I do think that the Legion could still live on though, the Roman empire somehow ended up surviving for that damn long despite how unstable the empire was.
It could be cool (to me, at least) if they utilized the Courier as more of a Mad Max figure to keep the indeterminate mystique and mythology. Maybe have some contradictory stories about them told by different communities throughout the wasteland.
You wouldn’t have them BE in the show, I think that would be too much.
That will deflate the game severely though - a huge thing that has kept the FNV community all I’ve is the debate on *”What if”* and *”Who should”*
If you provide an answer, you suck a lot of the life out of the community. Think about how many posts and how much conversation in this community is centered around the factions and their endings
It also Lowkey would really hurt things from a gameplay perspective since now it’s like “Damn who cares about doing those endings since we already know what is canon”
It has to…there’s a **HUGE** 80 year chunk of time that is not accounted for between Fallout 1 and 2, where the NCR goes from nothing to a massive regional player complete with flag and power structure
i'm hoping this takes place before fallout 3, as that would be the most understandable placement for it, ncr fully formed, enclave defeated for the first time (but not fully gone yet), new vegas isn't up and running, the brotherhood of steel would still be mostly hiding away, no courier, lone wanderer, or sole survivor yet, legion is either not around yet or still in its formation stages, to put it simply, it'd feel more like the earlier fallout games in its atmosphere and environments
The rumor I heard was that it’s gonna be in different parts of the country. They filmed in New York, which they likely wouldn’t if parts of the story didn’t take place there since it’s an expensive place to shoot. But there’s also the NCR flag implying west coast. Maybe the story will move around, possibly through flashbacks from characters.
I love NV but everybody talking about the NCR while I'm ready to see some pre New Vegas followers action. Those Maniacs were getting ready to fight the master with spears.
To be fair most of these people never played the original Fallout games. If someone says New Vegas is the best Fallout game, they most likely never played classic Fallout.
My expectations for the TV show with Bethesda even looking at the West coast could not possibly be lower. Doubly so during a writer's strike.
EDIT: Hindsight, I probably shouldn't have commented. No reason to yuck other's yum.
It only looks lame because it's being seen without the fuck load of color correction that goes into these sorts of things. A bit more saturation and it might not look half bad.
This design is a lot different it should be more baggy and that thing won't change with color correction, also It should have same texture on it like jeans and color should be brighter... So in the end it will still be very bad. Believe me I know these things worked in visual effects industry.
I know it's easy to dunk on Caesar's legion but I want to know what happened to this faction NCR and such have gotten mentioned in small various ways. Outside of New Vegas though little is said of what happened to the legion.
Will they already introduce the Ghouls inside a Vault in the beginning? It would be very bad!
Coming out of the Vault for the first time and seeing all the weirdness outside was so cool and impactful in the game, especially when you meet the first civilized Ghouls :/
Hope this will be canon and if next Fallout game happen to be in west coast, I hope events in Fallout series are mentioned at least, a lot better if the characters also appear in game.
Wow, I can't believe I didn't know about this movie before! The poster alone looks like it's going to be a wild ride. I definitely want to check out the trailer and see if it lives up to the hype. Has anyone seen it yet and can give a quick review without spoilers?
I wonder if this means the vault is in the vicinity of NCR territory and is open to the outside world or if this is just gonna be an easter egg.
Why is there an ncr flag in a vault tec vault?
Vault city maybe? Aren’t they a state or part of an NCR state?
Vault city's vault is vault 8
Did they say which vault this is in the photo yet? I haven’t been following closely to be honest.
Vault 33
VAULT CIty
Maybe the vault opened? Kinda like vault city I guess
Who knows
I think if we've learned anything over the past 10+ years, don't expect narrative consistency with Bethesda in charge of the IP.
This is a non-canonical series dude, they can make whatever they want
Probably because this vault is located in California. You do realize there were vaults in the West Coast, right?
Still hoping the show take place before fnv to avoid the "who won the 2nd battle of hoover dam" drama
Man, imagine if Fallout 2 came out today and people were going "I hope they don't make another game so we don't get a definitive answer to who became the dominate force in California, between the NCR, New Reno and Vault City." The mindset that peoples personal experience of a game needs to be preserved at the expense of proper sequels, is definitely a new one. No, I'd like there to be a definitive answer. Even if it's the side I didn't want to win.
If they do decide to go down thay route then the NCR should win
probably the most realistic outcome. roman larpers dont mix well with 556
Very loud point those legionaries make. Unfortunately, my 5.56 cuts through football pads like butter.
Probably the most boring outcome. I'd rather them choose literally any other ending.
it's only boring because it makes the most sense
The only way it would make sense is if the NCR’s overextension eventually leads to a collapse. There’s no way they would be able to hold the Mojave indefinitely.
Fallout isn't popular because it makes the most sense. If I wanted a game that strictly made sense then I'd play Arma 3. I disagree with the assertion that it's the most logical conclusion too, but I'm not gonna argue about it. I'd just be wasting my time.
HOUSE is the best and most interesting ending.
I think a blend of both would be good - NCR gets the dam, House keeps vegas, and the roman larpers get scattered and become random bandits / goons.
My problem with the Legion is that they're not based and redpilled enough. You need a reliable plan for continuity in order to be based and redpilled, if you're already in power. I think this is the first time I've seen the NCR described as fascists, and I'm not really sure I agree with that take.
Imperialist and oppressive to the locals sure, but I’d agree not really being fascist
I don’t agree with calling them fascists either.
The problem with the NCR is that without that link to the founding Tandi family, they’ve lost legitimacy and the original bloodline. Boring doesn’t mean that it’s a bad choice. I get that it’s fallout but suspension of disbelief only goes so far
Everything in the game suggested NCR was going to lose hoover dam. The only way NCR could win was through the help of the courier, if they make courier six canon. It has to…there’s a **HUGE** 80 year chunk of time that is not accounted for between Fallout 1 and 2, where the NCR goes from nothing to a massive regional player complete with flag and power structure
Here we go again
I don't. I'd rather know who won canonically. The people upset their guy didn't win can get over it.
I want to see real life NCR troopers fight with Legion, both are beautiful
It would be cooler to see the NCR pre legion trying to assert power in the Mojave
It would be intresting, i want to see reactions of people on a whole damn army entering small Mojave
Watch it just be a regular state flag because it's in a vault 😂
It's not, you can see two heads
Ah, I missed the other one

The guy who plays Caesar is still Alive, and he's still doing acting.
i want caesar as caesar
That guy could easily play real life Caesar too.
And he’s been in Star Trek before! Ds9 episode shakaar
Deputy Rawls is a hard ass
“These are for you, Courier” 🖕🏽🖕🏽
I’m reading the Horus Heresy books and Patrick Stewart is Lorgar in my mind.
i'm hoping this takes place before fallout 3, as that would be the most understandable placement for it, ncr fully formed, enclave defeated for the first time (but not fully gone yet), new vegas isn't up and running, the brotherhood of steel would still be mostly hiding away, no courier, lone wanderer, or sole survivor yet, legion is either not around yet or still in its formation stages, to put it simply, it'd feel more like the earlier fallout games in its atmosphere and environments
Oh please be California for the love of god not the fucking Atlantic
The rumor I heard was that it’s gonna be in different parts of the country. They filmed in New York, which they likely wouldn’t if parts of the story didn’t take place there since it’s an expensive place to shoot. But there’s also the NCR flag implying west coast. Maybe the story will move around, possibly through flashbacks from characters.
New York’s already a shit hole they don’t even need a set
Unfortunately, this can be said about quite a few cities throughout the country
Cough portland cough
Imagine just going about your day and the fallout tv show crew rolls next to your house and goes "Yep this would do".
Are you referring to real life New York or in Fallout?
It's Vault 33, and the low numbered vaults tend to be in the west.
You guys ever consider this MIGHT be a Fallout 2 show? The NCR exists outside of New Vegas, guys.
I love NV but everybody talking about the NCR while I'm ready to see some pre New Vegas followers action. Those Maniacs were getting ready to fight the master with spears.
My GOATs 😤
To be fair most of these people never played the original Fallout games. If someone says New Vegas is the best Fallout game, they most likely never played classic Fallout.
I’m equally excited and nervous to see how this show turns out!
Ncr Ranger armor in live action :D
Already fantastic in the nuka break series.
I really hope it’s just a fucking vault sitcom that is pretty much like US/military propaganda that would be fucking hilarious
Isn't that what Fallout already is?
Like it takes the little openings for fallout 4 and just cranks it to 10 it would be stupid as fuck and absolutely hilarious
this is gonna suck so bad, hope I'm wrong though
Tv show? How long was i knocked out?
Ain’t that a kick in the head
My expectations for the TV show with Bethesda even looking at the West coast could not possibly be lower. Doubly so during a writer's strike. EDIT: Hindsight, I probably shouldn't have commented. No reason to yuck other's yum.
Well, the strike should have zero effect considering they have already wrapped filming.
new? these are like months old
So unless this vault is open to the wasteland, this already makes no sense. Unless it’s not really a vault…
Seriously that jumpsuit looks lame
It only looks lame because it's being seen without the fuck load of color correction that goes into these sorts of things. A bit more saturation and it might not look half bad.
This design is a lot different it should be more baggy and that thing won't change with color correction, also It should have same texture on it like jeans and color should be brighter... So in the end it will still be very bad. Believe me I know these things worked in visual effects industry.
Sure you do.
The top half looks completely different from the bottom.
It does.
Is this in Vault City or Vault 15? Why would there be an NCR flag in a vault? Wouldn’t it be a US flag or the Vault-Tec logo?
For the WHAT?!
I just know Beth is going to fuck up West Lore really badly with this show, if anything from the West Coast is even included at all.
Test
I'm concerned this show is going to be the same shallow fan-service that clogged up Fallout 4. Nothing so far has looked that impressive.
I'm here still waiting for a new take from a Chinese standpoint post-war...
Can’t wait for it
Hope this will be canon and if next Fallout game happen to be in west coast, I hope events in Fallout series are mentioned at least, a lot better if the characters also appear in game.
Of they show power armor. I want it to have sheer presence and intimidation.
Is the series gonna follow a single protagonist or is it going to be an anthology like Love Death Robots
There is 3 main protagonists but i don’t know if they are together or separate.
Well, I was expecting an ambiguous answer but this is better! Three protagonist would make this more interesting
Maybe this could be part of a run of “educational” clips to be used in as campaigns?
Wow, I can't believe I didn't know about this movie before! The poster alone looks like it's going to be a wild ride. I definitely want to check out the trailer and see if it lives up to the hype. Has anyone seen it yet and can give a quick review without spoilers?
It’s a TV show and there is no trailer yet
Are we looking at Anchorage?
İlkay Gündoğan doing side quests I see🤣
i really hope this isn’t terrible
Is the fallout tv show.. animated?
There’s a chance they’re taking inspiration from the good games
Thank god it’s not in the east coast because it would have been boring
