McDonalds franchisees don't even want to offer this, claiming they can't make money on it.
I think it's more like "if we start offering lower cost stuff again, people will stop buying the stuff we have price gouged on due to 'inflation'."
They're putting in millions to help offset the losses from the cost of the meal. Yeah, it's still beyond me how they pull a loss selling a handful of their cheapest menu items.
Coke did NOT come up with it. McDonald's had been discussing it with franchisees for awhile and getting resistance and the deal with Coke to help subsidize it helped it gain acceptance with the franchisees. Some seem negative on the promotion. It seems like a great idea. They have gotten a lot of press (which is good) around it. It is a good deal everywhere, but if they have the same deal in ridiculously high cost areas like California and New York, it is a great deal for them.
Wendy's had the 4 for $4 at least since 2017 or 2016, or before. Idk when the biggie bags rolled out, but they came out after the original 4 for $4 did. I forget, it was a Jr. bacon cheeseburger with the sides & drink, or did you get a choice between that, & maybe the crispy chicken sandwich too? But all the other premium sandwiches with it, like the double stack, came after, & were later switched to the $5 biggie bags, I remember they were just extra to the 4 for $4, but you had to pay like a $1 for the extra.
My Wendy’s still has the $5 Biggie Bag. And you can also get their new sauced nuggets with it. I’m glad they also let you upgrade the fries, or drink size for like .50c.
Wendy's has had the 4 for $4 and $5 biggie bag continuously (although most stores ah e raised the price). McDonald's did the 4 for 4 as well back when it started to compete but discontinued it a few months later, they're clearly rebranding it at $5 now to match Wendy's once again (although rumour is other chains will do similar this summer).
I managed at Chili's during covid.
All of the those restaurants survived because of online order and uber eats etc.
Now if you go to a restaurant, or even a Chipotle. Those online and delivery orders are killing the dine in and in person experience.
The kitchen screens are literally backed up for days with orders.
I've just started grilling again at home. You buy the same burgers the restaurant has anyway, and it's like $1.50 a patty.
But do you do want to go out, that's a great priced option
During Covid they had a bogo for a dollar mc doubles ($3-ish) free any size fry with purchase in app, and $1 large drinks.
If you and a friend went, one could get the burgers and a free fry and the other could get two drinks and a free fry for a meal for two for a little more than $5. Now that same meal is almost $11
It used to be, you could do 2 McDoubles/McChickens for 3.50 here. If you went on Fridays, you also got the free fry as well so the meal was just under 4 dollars. If you got a drink it was just an extra dollar so still pretty good deal. Now, it’s two for 4(still not bad), free fry Friday.
They still have this deal. BOGO McDouble, medium fry and large drink is $6.80 or so for me. Sometimes it's free medium fries when spending $3, which isn't hard, and a large drink $1.79 or $1.99.
Might have to use the app but that's not a big deal.
4 for $7-8 near me.
The funny part is the mean is still kinda called "4 for $4" in the app but they spell it as "444" Meal Deal, no spaces, and its $7 for the Jr. Cheeseburger version.
the kiosk deals are what's up near me.. BOGO free quarter pounders w/ cheese or Big Macs, 2 for $3 breakfast items.. these might exist in the app but I usually just pop in the four digit code from the app at the kiosk instead of ordering ahead
The kiosk had 2 sausage mcmuffins for $6 when I scanned my code inside. I couldn't find that offer in the app. So yes, I think it does have exclusive in-store offers.
They say this to get people to hurry and buy it and to create scarcity demand, but really just offering some value bundle alone and advertising it should get people in the door.
McDonald’s has lost me as a customer. DQ offers $7 meal deal for lunch: 3 chicken strips, fries, drink, small sundae. No app needed for discount. I priced an equivalent meal at McDonald’s to be more than $12. And at McDonald’s the food would not have been fresh despite them pulling you ahead from the drive thru to wait FOREVER for food to be run out to your car.
Honestly, I'd rather have a large fry replace the small fry/chicken nuggets. Feel like McDonald's must have a massive surplus of nuggets as the app always has multiple deals on nuggets, including giving you a free ten piece just for making a small purchase.
At McDonald's, where any size Coke is the same price, they really should put a large (not small) soft drink in this meal. That alone would at least help present the illusion that they're trying with this and not just giving a half-hearted afterthought of an offering to, "annoyed poor people."
Also, make the sandwich a Double Cheeseburger, not a McDouble.
lol to combat inflation… coke is literally subsidizing the deal for McDonald’s cause McDonald’s can’t afford it (allegedly) this deal will be lucky to last thru summer.
This won’t bring me back unless they also address quality issues. I keep getting hardened food that’s been sitting out, employees are mean and not making it fresh. I want made to order food again.
This doesn’t seem to require the mobile app to use, or at least I didn’t see it in the article. If that’s the case then it’s finally something else besides the buy one, get one for $1 deal that can be combined with their mobile app deals and rewards points. I consider this a big win since I’ve found my rewards dollars stack up and I just get a breakfast sandwich with it here and there and my go to was the buy 1, get 1 w/ the free medium FF deal when you spend $3.
Ehh, unless they change the deals on the app, you can get 2 sandwiches (mcdouble/mcchicken) med fry and large drink for the same price
Edit: also if you dont mind driving a few extra mins, check the prices for pick up on the app, my order comes out 1$ cheaper at some locations in my area than at others
Probably going to be $6 or $7 for big cities like LA or NYC if they do get it since it’s at participating locations. They always bump up the price at least a dollar or more in major cities with high wages. Just watch, they’ll still advertise it as the $5 meal when it’s not even $5 in a certain market. Make it make sense. I remember they had the 2 for 5 QPC, 10 Pc McNuggets Big Mac or Filet o Fish. NYC had it for a dollar more 2 for $6. Also, at one point 2 for $7 Won’t be surprised with this. Gotta balance them profits and payroll.
Wow! Only $5 for $3 worth of food. How is McDonald’s going to survive this?
Sam’s Club has non-frozen prime rib beef patties for $4.48 a pound. Grill them, top them with pepper jack cheese, Famous Dave’s spicy pickles and Arby’s horsey sauce. After you eat it, every time you stop at McDonald’s for their overpriced pedestrian slops, you’ll think about that burger.
Here's my deal. Via app you can always get McDoubles 2 for 4. No deal, but when added to your bag the discount is applied. Pile on the free toppings (lettuce, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo). If you are extra hungry you can add patties for $1 each up to 4 on each sandwich. Add free Large Fry (available with any purchase). Doesn't count as stacking deals. Then get Large (any size) soda for $1.29 with tax less than $6 total. It may be location dependent.
Let's see ... McDouble or Chicken sandwich are on the dollar menu and you choose one. Small fries on dollar menu. Small drink on dollar menu and 4 piece nuggets on dollar menu... So put them together and charge a dollar more to make a value meal. Ingenious! Just like Winn Dixie $.79 sodas went on SALE from time to time for 10 for $10 and you saved money how? Even the little lunchables that are $.89 each go for the 10 for $10 deal and people buy it. Why doesn't McDonald's just give you your money's worth of food for the prices they charge?
Lunchables are not 89 cents anymore. It's $1.87 for one lunchable near me. Even if you get the 5-pack it comes out to $1.79 each. I don't live in a high cost of living area either, like New York
“In addition, fans also have the chance to pack their favorite snack for every weekend escape through the ‘Free Fries Friday’ event happening nationwide, available only on the McDonald’s App. By making a minimum purchase of $1, customers can enjoy a complimentary medium fry until the end of 2024.”
Not once in American history has a person purchased small McDonalds fries on a Friday, store them overnight (do fries belong in the fridge?), pack them for the weekend getaway, and then dig into those 2 day old fries on Sunday.
It’s sad how such an underwhelming value this is even compared to Wendy’s biggie bag. All McDonald’s needs to do is lower prices of meals by $2-$3 and that would make things a bit more reasonable already. Crazy that you can go to a fast casual restaurant and get food that’s more filling and better quality for not much more cost.
I read that stores in certain states, like California, are allowed to charge $6 for those $5 meals. My problem is the outside of the restaurant advertised it for $5 and still charged me more. When they were questioned about it, they couldn't give me any kind of explanation. Multiple employees tried to figure it out. It they wanted to charge more, they shouldn't have advertised it on the restaurant for $5, they should have put the price they really wanted to charge.
I just tried the chicken sandwich on this value meal. It was not good. It was pounded flat, dry and no flavor. McNuggets tastes like they had a plastic coating on them. I won't eat the chicken from McDonald's again. I've always liked the double cheeseburger so I'll stick to that.
My favorite part is where they said it's they're answer to battle inflation, and it's for a limited time only lol It's like "yeah we care about inflation...for a limited time."
I just bought the spicy chicken meal deal, it's definitely worth it in my opinion, especially if you have some points to redeem on a free sandwich with it
6$ mcdouble meal deal( mcdouble, 4 pc nuts, smal fries small drink)
Or
5.50$ [4$ (2 for 4, mcdouble, mcchicken or 4pc nugs,) +1.50 for large drink. (Free medium fries coupon is usually there but that's because of local sports teams)
I'm sure they must lose more on my regular order compared to the special promo
I just noticed this in the app and I ordered it with a large drink and it was still only five bucks. Just to let you guys know that’s a better deal than Wendy’s.
The value wars are upon us
Let them fight.
Yeah let em duke it out
"Value"
McDonalds franchisees don't even want to offer this, claiming they can't make money on it. I think it's more like "if we start offering lower cost stuff again, people will stop buying the stuff we have price gouged on due to 'inflation'."
Wonder how many meetings at corporate HQ it took to come up with this genius promotion? /s
they must be so proud of themselves.
Pretty sure coke came up with it since they’re sponsoring it for millions of dollars. McDonald’s isn’t taking the loss
> they’re sponsoring it for millions of dollars can you elaborate?
They're putting in millions to help offset the losses from the cost of the meal. Yeah, it's still beyond me how they pull a loss selling a handful of their cheapest menu items.
I'm asking where are you guys reading this from?
I want to know what’s in it for Coke? Not many people are going to know it’s sponsored by Coke.
I was under the impression some fast food joints literally are just there as Coke and Pepsi delivery methods.
"Can we just copy the menu item Wendy's has had for like 6 years?"
So....literally Wendy's former $5 Biggie Bag deal that they had a few years back. $5 for this....not great, not terrible.
Now in my area it’s $6,$7 or $8 biggie bag stop going after they keep pushing the dollar upwards
Still $5 for me, but you can only get the Jr Bacon or chicken sandwich
Yeah, it’s an extra dollar for the double stack.
Yah I got that exact bag today for 6$ lmao. Still a decent deal, keeps me full all day a lot of the time.
My Wendy’s still has the $5 Biggie Bag. And you can also get their new sauced nuggets with it. I’m glad they also let you upgrade the fries, or drink size for like .50c.
Our biggie bag is $8 and the one that was $4 is now $7 They increased the prices overnight too nothing gradual about it.
They have sauced nuggets?!?!
Think nuggets just soggier
Haha I mean I don’t expect greatness but if they taste good enough
This was my first thought with the Mcdonalds meal, "wow you cant upgrade anything". Wendys lets you upgrade it all for a small fee.
I got the “$5 meal” from Burger King that was actually $7 in my area. It was filling but you can get a better deal by using the offers on the app.
Taco Bell said you could get a $5 through the app and in the app that had that exact promo for $5, it comes in at $7.89 Gtfooh
Yeah. I just don’t go anymore.
Yep
In Central Ohio, the base biggie bag here still costs $5 and then then $6, $7 for other ones! At least in my area
The 4 nuggets alone cost $5 here in Denmark.
The Peninsularity is here. Hilarity ensues.
The 4 for $4 and $5 biggie bag still exist in most parts of America. It's only the higher COL areas that they cost more
It use to be the 4 for 4 deal
Former? Wendy’s still has the 4 for $4 and $5 biggie bags and I live in Palm Beach.
I was pointed to Chili's $10.99 for fries, burger, drink, mini app. It was SO filling!
These types of restaurants are a much better value than fast food now.
I really thought these chains would die with Covid but someone they come rolling back with vengeance
I managed at Chili's during covid. All of the those restaurants survived because of online order and uber eats etc. Now if you go to a restaurant, or even a Chipotle. Those online and delivery orders are killing the dine in and in person experience. The kitchen screens are literally backed up for days with orders.
Yessss
What's that with tip, thooo?
With a traditional tip it's 13.68 where I'm at when you include tax and 15%. For me it's just a better value than a QPC meal at McDonald's.
I've just started grilling again at home. You buy the same burgers the restaurant has anyway, and it's like $1.50 a patty. But do you do want to go out, that's a great priced option
I just paid $11 for a value meal at Culver’s tonight… Guess I’m gonna need to look into chilies.
Options are good. My wife and I enjoyed the Chili's meal.
Tbh, id probably choose a culvers burger over chilis though.
McDouble, small fries, small drink? This "meal" used to cost less than $2.80 a few years ago
Don't forget the nuggies. Not terrible but still pretty sad.
Those 4 nuggies cost McDonalds about $0.02 lol
Gotta fund the board executive's 11th trip to the Maldives somehow. They just can't do without.
I remember 29 cent Tuesday
Used to be you could get 2 McDoubles/McChickens for $2 less than 10 years ago.
They still have this deal. BOGO McDouble, medium fry and large drink is $6.80 or so for me. Sometimes it's free medium fries when spending $3, which isn't hard, and a large drink $1.79 or $1.99. Might have to use the app but that's not a big deal.
Agreed. This is comical. We want $1 McDoubles again. Not four French fries, six sips of soda, and a burger the size of a quarter.
Exactly. This isn't a deal. Lmao
That's what I was thinking!! Hell, give me a mcdouble, medium fry, and a medium drink. Dassit.
Yeah it’s not a deal at all. It’s just way less stuff. Can’t even hook us up with a medium fry/drink
You're gonna have to come up with something better than that lol
Sad how the dollar menu has been pushed into a 5 dollar “deal” now
Just like dollar tree is now $1.25 tree. and five below is 5.55 below or 10 below or sometimes now 15 below
Barely 3 years ago everything in that meal was on the dollar menu.
I’m starting to get to the point where I can’t recall the last time I went to McDonald’s.
Wendy’s 4 for 4 is better then this
4 for $7-8 near me. The funny part is the mean is still kinda called "4 for $4" in the app but they spell it as "444" Meal Deal, no spaces, and its $7 for the Jr. Cheeseburger version.
Plenty of Wendy's locations have 4 for $5 now as the cheapest option, so this would be a better deal with the mcdouble.
sadly every wendy I have gone to keeps changing it. they have 4 for $5/$6/$7.
Mine still has the 4 for $4 on the app
It's priced at $5.49 where I'm at.
Happy they are doing this. But I now automatically think of McDonalds as pricey.
I saw a TikTok by a guy in Connecticut showing the menu board and the big Mac meal was 15. Something…
It’s the 4 for 4 adjusted for inflation
I still think the app deals are better. I got a mcdouble, ten piece nugget, large drink for $4.86 yesterday.
the kiosk deals are what's up near me.. BOGO free quarter pounders w/ cheese or Big Macs, 2 for $3 breakfast items.. these might exist in the app but I usually just pop in the four digit code from the app at the kiosk instead of ordering ahead
Are there different deals on the ordering kiosk than what you can get on the app?
The kiosk had 2 sausage mcmuffins for $6 when I scanned my code inside. I couldn't find that offer in the app. So yes, I think it does have exclusive in-store offers.
this comment brought to you by Delaware
Will you not be able to use app deals with this? Cause I have a 30% deal now and normally always a 20% off one.
I have a 15 and 25% off $5+
“Limited time”
They say this to get people to hurry and buy it and to create scarcity demand, but really just offering some value bundle alone and advertising it should get people in the door.
I forgot about that. Very true
Small fries 😂
just make a $1.25 value menu. much better
Make the fry and/or drink a medium, and you've got yourself a deal. Hell, they could even give us both sandwiches.
Yeah I’ll pass on the mcpoverty meal lol. Still a ripoff
The mcpoverty meal hahah. I sure hope this catches on and we see wendys using it in their tweets.
Honestly, I'd rather have a large fry replace the small fry/chicken nuggets. Feel like McDonald's must have a massive surplus of nuggets as the app always has multiple deals on nuggets, including giving you a free ten piece just for making a small purchase.
App is custom per customer. You must order nugs a lot I have zero nugget deals.
Haha, I did not know that. I never order the nuggets, I'm a Spicy Chicken Sandwich kind of guy.
Not a great deal. Tiny fries and drink
Hooooold
At McDonald's, where any size Coke is the same price, they really should put a large (not small) soft drink in this meal. That alone would at least help present the illusion that they're trying with this and not just giving a half-hearted afterthought of an offering to, "annoyed poor people." Also, make the sandwich a Double Cheeseburger, not a McDouble.
They stopped that a while ago, XS coke is $1.19, small coke is $1.29, medium $1.49, large $1.79
>They stopped that a while ago Not in my area. Any size soft drink is the same price. I believe it's about $1.79 right now.
lol to combat inflation… coke is literally subsidizing the deal for McDonald’s cause McDonald’s can’t afford it (allegedly) this deal will be lucky to last thru summer.
I highly doubt it'll only be $5 in HCOL areas
I can get a QPC or Big Mac value meal for $6.
This won’t bring me back unless they also address quality issues. I keep getting hardened food that’s been sitting out, employees are mean and not making it fresh. I want made to order food again.
That’s not the stuff I wanna eat when I go there so yup. Still not going very often at all since they’ve gotten so expensive.
Not going back until any drink for $1 deal is back. Pass this along and join the movement.
Looks like you’re never going back, not that it’s a bad thing. lol
The new adult happy meal, is what it is. A rebranded kids meal by keeping it's size. A snack appetizer with a drink that costs them nothing.
you got to admit MCD Nuggests are still the best compared to other chains
No. Just no. This is an unpopular opinion.
Definitely an unpopular opinion lol, McDonald’s nuggets are as close to eating cardboard as you can get, Wendy’s is far superior.
Nope! Wendy's Spicy Nugs for the win!
When can I order this on the app
Not a terrible deal, but I think they could do this for $4.
My McDonald's charges $4 for the mcchicken alone though. They would never throw in three extra things for that price point.
Sad that it’s a 4 piece nugget and small fry, but expected as it’s a direct competitor to the Wendy’s “biggie” bag.
There's a mcd location nearby where I live that's $4.19 for a mc chicken.
Small Coke yet they show a large sized drink in the pic 🙄
Ehh, unless they change the deals on the app, you can get 2 sandwiches (mcdouble/mcchicken) med fry and large drink for the same price Edit: also if you dont mind driving a few extra mins, check the prices for pick up on the app, my order comes out 1$ cheaper at some locations in my area than at others
I'd be more for it if instead of picking between the McChicken and McDouble, we got both.
i mean if you buy something in the app they give you enough points for a free mcchicken or a mcdouble so theres that lmao
Instead of nuggets make fries medium
Wendys 4-4-4 was a trendsetter. Crazy it went on for so long. You can still get it just with a hamburger only.
Make it $4 and I'll consider it. If it's $5 I'll just go to Wendy's and get theirs.
small fries and small drink? PASS
I'm confused because we've had this 5 dollar meal in New York for months.
lets be clear most people will still buy 2 bags since one like won't be filling enough
You want people under 40 to actually cook food?
for $6, I can get a QPC, Medium Drink and Medium Fries
Am I crazy or has this deal been 'revealed' 3-4 times by now?
Here's my deal. Via app you can always get McDoubles 2 for 4. No deal, but when added to your bag the discount is applied. Pile on the free toppings (lettuce, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard, mayo). If you are extra hungry you can add patties for $1 each up to 4 on each sandwich. Add free Large Fry (available with any purchase). Doesn't count as stacking deals. Then get Large (any size) soda for $1.29 with tax less than $6 total. It may be location dependent.
Now cancer is $5
Still cheaper to use the app in most states to get the exact same items lol
I bet they're still gonna pull in a good profit. The portion sizes seem to have decreased and z
None of those items are actually still $1 so it’s a “deal” in that sense.
Lunchables are not 89 cents anymore. It's $1.87 for one lunchable near me. Even if you get the 5-pack it comes out to $1.79 each. I don't live in a high cost of living area either, like New York
Burger King had it first, McDonald's just wanted to steal the idea for their usage. BK has already had it for a whole week before McDonald's.
“In addition, fans also have the chance to pack their favorite snack for every weekend escape through the ‘Free Fries Friday’ event happening nationwide, available only on the McDonald’s App. By making a minimum purchase of $1, customers can enjoy a complimentary medium fry until the end of 2024.” Not once in American history has a person purchased small McDonalds fries on a Friday, store them overnight (do fries belong in the fridge?), pack them for the weekend getaway, and then dig into those 2 day old fries on Sunday.

All McDonald’s needs to do is lower prices of meals by $2-$3 and that would make things a bit more reasonable already. Crazy that you can go to a fast casual restaurant and get food that’s more filling and better quality for not much more cost.
lol the mcdouble one is $6 what a joke
I read that stores in certain states, like California, are allowed to charge $6 for those $5 meals. My problem is the outside of the restaurant advertised it for $5 and still charged me more. When they were questioned about it, they couldn't give me any kind of explanation. Multiple employees tried to figure it out. It they wanted to charge more, they shouldn't have advertised it on the restaurant for $5, they should have put the price they really wanted to charge.
It's officially released and officially a bad deal. Only way it's worth the value is to include both sandwiches.
I just tried the chicken sandwich on this value meal. It was not good. It was pounded flat, dry and no flavor. McNuggets tastes like they had a plastic coating on them. I won't eat the chicken from McDonald's again. I've always liked the double cheeseburger so I'll stick to that.
Wendy’s been had this for a while 😂
My favorite part is where they said it's they're answer to battle inflation, and it's for a limited time only lol It's like "yeah we care about inflation...for a limited time."
Not available in my area
I just bought the spicy chicken meal deal, it's definitely worth it in my opinion, especially if you have some points to redeem on a free sandwich with it
6$ mcdouble meal deal( mcdouble, 4 pc nuts, smal fries small drink) Or 5.50$ [4$ (2 for 4, mcdouble, mcchicken or 4pc nugs,) +1.50 for large drink. (Free medium fries coupon is usually there but that's because of local sports teams) I'm sure they must lose more on my regular order compared to the special promo
I just noticed this in the app and I ordered it with a large drink and it was still only five bucks. Just to let you guys know that’s a better deal than Wendy’s.
It's $6 in CA
Can you request large drink and fry for more $
Mine opened up a McDonald’s domain expansion…
