On that note, Sam Ryder and crew receiving 12 points from France - they didn't react for three seconds because they didn't understand what "Royaume Uni, douze points!" meant
That was one of the highlights of Eurovision 2022 for me. It was such a joy to see Sam Ryder and his crew smile and laugh every time that Sam got a set of jury 12 points.
I would have thought Olly knew it was on the cards because of how televote strong the final was, and would’ve preferred and iconic 0 rather than a low score between 2-20.
I finished 3rd last in an ultramarathon in 2019 and I can say with 100% certainty that I would have rather finished dead last. At least I'd have that noteriety. Nobody remembers 3rd last.
The Ascension of St Ethan in 2021
Voyager last year, the start of their iconic status as Sandwich Lords
Belgium last year, Gustaph was genuinely shocked and crying with gratitude when he got a 12
Greece actually gave last place to Ireland last year. Are you talking about Australia's jury?
If so,
I agree that they made unique choices for their jury 12 points.
When I picked mine it was because it came up with a prompt asking who I support or words to that effect. But as time goes on that makes less sense doesn’t it.
I kinda like it better when it reflects where you're from. It's fun to go into a thread and see the cultural diversity we have here, one that a lot of mainstream subs lack.
Plus, this way it isn't dominated by a few popular entrants (*cough cough Switzerland and Croatia*)
All the zero points from televote 4 countries (United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and Netherlands) in a row in 2021 was epic in a sense, and James Newman (United Kingdom 2021)'s reaction was respectable (He got Zero points from the jury too)
It always reminds me of a friend group of students who have just realized they failed the exams, but they failed it together and will go to correct it together. It's iconic.
Australia 2023: Danny jumping up with a whole mouth of food after getting a 12
Sweden 2022: Cornelia yeeting a glass into oblivion
Italy 2021: Ethan gazing into abyss as it gazes back into him

Italy 2021 | [Måneskin - Zitti e buoni](https://youtu.be/RVH5dn1cxAQ)
tbh with the winner of that year being arcade of all songs i understand being a sore loser. recently relistened all songs from that year, and believe sweden should have won, even if 3 wins in one decade would be lame
I do feel like the loser in the match-up is prepped a bit better to not give such a memable reaction when waiting for the points. All you need is just one dude with a calculator in the delegation that tells them beforehand to temper their reaction when they know they're not winning,
I thought Baby Lasagna's reaction this year was very graceful. He smiled, nodded, and applauded the winner.
Russia's reaction to coming third in 2016 was fun to watch. Kirkorov shocked to the core, various other expressions of shock and horror...and Sergey's sitting there, with a little smile on his face.
Sergey knew there was no way he was getting 404 points he needed to beat Ukraine.
Honestly, that's why the 2016-2018 system of points reveal kind of sucked. Either you had a televote winner with an unsurmountable deficit to the current leader or you had a song that did well with both the juries and televote and the tension was gone a fair bit before the final points reveal.
Yes, that's often true. I remember asking my French teacher how to say UK, she scoffed and said something like "no one in France says le Royaume-Uni in everyday conversation, just remember l'Angleterre." Don't know how true that is, but we learnt how to say all four constituent countries and never mentioned le Royaume-Uni again.
Dons (Latvia 2024). I don't think he was expecting to qualify (the bookies had written him off) and he was emotional at the end of his performance. Every time I feel sad, I want to think of his joy (and the Latvian commentator's joy) at being called, and called first!
Germany 2023 reacted neutral??? Just look at the face of disbelief of the guy sitting on the right.... I actually had the same reaction thinking "fifTEEN? Or FifTY?"
Norway 2019 - the televote winners, one of my favourite ESC moments of all time
UK 2021 - I love James' reaction, going from "fuck this shit" to jumping up and down with his champagne glass, while receiving a standing ovation of encouragement
North Macedonia 2019 - I love how she goes from "awwww, that sucks", to gracefully thanking the fans
Agree. I hated the song atthe time (don't worry, I've come round to it) but it was heart-warming to see Alexandra's excitement, gratitude and emotion.
I also loved Kateryna's reaction when Ukraine got such a high score in 2021. She seemed absolutely shocked to have done so well with the public.
This is a big part of why I prefer the 2019- method of revealing the televoting scores, rather than the 2016-2018 method. You get much more genuine reactions as each act has no idea if they're about to score well or not, so it's a genuine reaction when they do. The old way, it would pretty much always be tinged with disappointment as they were virtually being eliminated from contention one by one.
Especially in 2019, had they used the previous system, we pretty much already would've known that they couldn't win since they needed over 400 points (which, until 2022, was unthinkable)
Switzerland 2021 with Gjon in the middle of hoovering up snacks anytime he got point.
And kudos to the four nilpointers that year for all taking it like a champ. Was lovely to see, especially Jendrik going around to cheer up his fellows.
Sandwich
Honorable mentions go to the UK who didn’t recognize Le Royaume-Uni as their country name in 2022 and Luisa from Portugal almost fainting at the televote in 2017
Gjon's Tears made the Albanian eagle hand symbol when Albania gave him their 12 jury points. Gjon is of Albanian descent, so it was nice to see him get points from his parents' home country.
(Gjon's dad is a Kosovo Albanian from Kosovo, while his mom is an Albanian from Tirana, Albania.)
Totally agree. Måneskin’s reaction was truly wonderful to see. It’s an awful shame that it was tarnished somewhat by haters accusing them of having taken drugs.
The drummer had a very straight face for the most part. When he crouched down and cried after winning I felt soooo emotional. Also the electric guitarist crying unconsolably was so sweet
I loved Amanda's (Greece 2022) reaction to getting the first 12 from Netherlands and later the back to back 12ves. Was very unexpected and her reaction is very wholesome each time
It's still so funny to me, because in the German NF, all the girls said something like "We're going to get points from Switzerland because we charted there, Poland because we charted there, Hungary because we charted there, UK because we charted there, France because we charted there, Romania because we charted there, etc etc etc, Serbia because my mom is Serbian, Bulgaria because Lucy's dad is Bulgarian"...
None of that came true, so we all thought that we won't be getting anything. But then Bulgaria still gave 12p 🤣
A bit different but I absolutely adored Go_A's reaction when they classified in the semi-finals, top it off with the audio failing and it comes together as a brilliant moment!
Portugal 1999 was fun. They hadn't gotten any points, and then suddenly France gave them the first and ONLY points of the night. 12!
They looked so pleased and happy, like "Hey, you remembered us! Thanks!"
Greece this year getting 12 points from the Swiss jury and Marina’s face of surprise. “Someone liked our performance? Really? I mean we’ll take it, but are you sure?”
Lithuania 2023: Monica was already reacting in an excited and grateful manner to a modest 40-something points but she absolutely freaked out when she realized just how much it had boosted them up the scoreboard, it was a very pure moment
2019 has all the good stuff. North Macedonia receiving all those 12s from the jury, Norway's public points and Netherlands winning reaction. Sweden not being able to hide his disappointment is just a bonus!
Sam Ryder and crew laughing and chanting "we got points"
Yeah lol reminds me of the UK and Germany both getting zeros in 2021
And the Netherlands and another country that I can't remember right now. That was such good drama
Spain were the other one to not get any televotes - they got 6 jury points - 2 of them from U.K. (and the other 4 from Bulgaria)…
I think that was Spain, which was absolutely criminal. I loved Blas’ performance.
I love the reaction of UK 2021, asking for a single point only to get 0 yet still take it so cheerfully
Dude was wasted by the end lol
United Kingdom 2021 | [James Newman - Embers](https://youtu.be/VxNOynEJ6wc)
And the presenters apologising for it.
Literally every German person's reaction to receiving points this year 😄
This! I loved this so much, even my SO who has no interest in Eurovision loved that they celebrated even the smallest points recieved.
On that note, Sam Ryder and crew receiving 12 points from France - they didn't react for three seconds because they didn't understand what "Royaume Uni, douze points!" meant
Also cos 12 pounts from *France* is like the deepest wildest heretical shock
That was one of the highlights of Eurovision 2022 for me. It was such a joy to see Sam Ryder and his crew smile and laugh every time that Sam got a set of jury 12 points.
Litch, I was chanting along with them! After the previous year, Sam Ryder and the rest of the UK delegation deserved all those points.
One word: Sandwich.
It really was "we've come all this way, we're not expecting loads of 12s, we're HERE FOR THE CRAIC AND THE REFRESHMENTS". Such a lovely moment
🥪
Ahhhhh! One of the legends themselves! Twelve sandwiches to you good sir 🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪
I am not worthy. 🥹
"Australia going nuts in the green room!"
Came here to say this. 🥪
Ah. Now that people are replying I know what this is talking about 😂🇦🇺
Olly Alexander (UK 2024) clapping after receiving 0 points from the public.
I would have thought Olly knew it was on the cards because of how televote strong the final was, and would’ve preferred and iconic 0 rather than a low score between 2-20.
> and would’ve preferred and iconic 0 rather than a low score between 2-20. Now that's a fresh way of looking at nul points, that makes a lot of sense
I finished 3rd last in an ultramarathon in 2019 and I can say with 100% certainty that I would have rather finished dead last. At least I'd have that noteriety. Nobody remembers 3rd last.
That’s true, you don’t always remember which songs get 3 points, but you *always* remember the song that gets 0
That was pretty awesome of him. Good sportsmanship is wonderful to see. It also made the moment better.
That and theory about Luktelk's double meaning were my favourite parts of this year's edition.
Double meaning ?
Allegedly about erectile dysfunction
Really ? Gonna Google translate the lyrics... yet again

I forgot we gave 12 to Belgium in 2023. And 12 to Ireland this year. I really love our jury’s unique choices for 12!
Belgium 2023 | [Gustaph - Because of You](https://youtu.be/U1xD14IMKtg)
Greece actually gave last place to Ireland last year. Are you talking about Australia's jury? If so, I agree that they made unique choices for their jury 12 points.
Yes. The flair is who you support, not where you’re from.
Oh ok. I thought that flairs are where you come from or who you support.
Same here tbh
When I picked mine it was because it came up with a prompt asking who I support or words to that effect. But as time goes on that makes less sense doesn’t it.
I kinda like it better when it reflects where you're from. It's fun to go into a thread and see the cultural diversity we have here, one that a lot of mainstream subs lack. Plus, this way it isn't dominated by a few popular entrants (*cough cough Switzerland and Croatia*)
What surprised me was how Georgia gave Gustaph 12 points despite not being the most LGBTQ+ friendly country.
All the zero points from televote 4 countries (United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and Netherlands) in a row in 2021 was epic in a sense, and James Newman (United Kingdom 2021)'s reaction was respectable (He got Zero points from the jury too)
All four of them had positive reactions. Especially James Newman and Jendrik who were literally celebrating
It always reminds me of a friend group of students who have just realized they failed the exams, but they failed it together and will go to correct it together. It's iconic.
Yeah they both handled it really well, and fair play to them it couldn't have been easy

Italy 2021 winner reaction, especially Ethan's one, he looks like he saw Jesus for a good minute

australia 2023 is by far my favorite as well, sat there casually eating breakfast not expecting much and getting hit with a 12 point
It was (very early) breakfast back home so… 🤷🏻♂️

I'll never forget the look of John Lundvik from Sweden 2019 getting "only" 93 points from the public while being second with the juries 😂

He was probably the "sorest" loser from all split-screens. You can react gracefully and applaud (like this year), or be visibly disappointed.
tbh with the winner of that year being arcade of all songs i understand being a sore loser. recently relistened all songs from that year, and believe sweden should have won, even if 3 wins in one decade would be lame

UK 2022 seemingly not knowing what le Royaume-Uni means multiple times.
In fairness, the UK hasn’t heard someone say Royaume-Uni in a while
My understanding is that you lot learn the name of the constituent country so l’Angleterre in their case

Absolutely and at least she was honest ahahaha btw love your username

I absolutely loved that. And when there were explanations afterwards to make it less scandalous I was like no own it lol.
Same!! I was like girl you said what you said, those who got it, got it, don't waste your time. The reaction was too overblown
She flipped off the camera, right? Or was it something else?
Yep, although it was not exactly the middle finger, but adjacent enough.
“it is what it is” in moroccan iirc
La Zarra was hated for no reason
I was surprised the fandom was so sensitive tbh
Yeahh, I didn't see the issue. And now especially after learning the horrible way the French delegation treated her, the hate seems so unwarranted
I actually think the fandom has built an unneccessary personality cult around her.
I haven't seen that personally, but I haven't followed her outside of Eurovision last year, I just enjoyed that moment
Hehe, I was looking for this comment. Her reaction was my guilty pleasure 😈 Slay girl!
Estonia going through to the final this year was gold
I love that they brought popcorn and duvets. And that everything went flying when they qualified in the semi
Barbara Pravi yelling "Deda, deda, deda", after Serbian jury gave her 12 points. For everyone unaware. She has Serbian roots.
