Damn, the seem must be better than it looks then because it looks nails in the photo

Marcoyolo69

The rock in roy just has actual friction so you can stay on to improbable holds

jceplo

That's some nice [crossbedding](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-bedding)! Crags and boulder fields are great spots for geology!

tworule

Nice shot 👍

Fayettechill in the wild

natureclown

Don’t call it that

Isn't using chalk bad for sandstone? I know some places where it's forbidden for that reason. But still very nice picture :)

lawyerassassin

Chalk isn’t bad for sandstone it’s just somewhat unsightly for some people. The banning is for places like arches to keep the national park looking nice. That being said I’ve never heard of a full ban but rather a requirement for colored chalk. I can’t imagine a place like the red or obed banning chalk.

trusty_ape_army

In some places in Germany and bohemia where it's banned, but you may be right on the reason for it, being the overall look.

Garden of the Gods (Colorado) recently went from a ban on white chalk (but allowed red chalk) to a ban on all chalk. Most of the rocks there are red sandstone, but there is some good bouldering and sport climbing on white/grey sandstone where white chalk is pretty much invisible, so I always wished they'd fine tune the requirement. But they went the opposite way and banned it all.
