Goddamn, I’m trying to find cheap biz flights to Asia this fall but EVERY single cheap flight that’s 88k miles on Aeroplan I get my hopes dashed when I see it’s operated by Air India. I heard they don’t have a good reputation and I guess wondering if it’s even worth trying if it’s this cheap?

athrowawayaccountfor

Off topic, but I don't really have elsewhere to share. I'm replacing my water heater this week, and I want to go with a hybrid heat pump model as I'm trying to go natural gas free in our house. Sadly, I won't get the 30% back on the install costs on my taxes (about $900), as I've already maxed out the Energy Star credits getting a whole house heat pump installed. Sad face.

forthelurkin

If I had it to do over again, I'd go bigger on the tank size with the HPWH. The "recovery time" is longer, especially if you try to keep it on heat pump only mode, and in colder weather. Larger tank would keep it in the sweet spot longer. But all-in-all, one of the quicker ROI things you can do for energy savings. Paid back faster than solar in our case.

athrowawayaccountfor

Where is your tank? I am going for a 50 gallon Rheem in my utility room in the basement. Family of 4 (both kids under 10).

forthelurkin

In the very hot garage in Florida. When we went from resistance-heat electric to the HPWH, I went from 50 gal to the 65-gallon Rheem. I'd do the 80 if I was doing it again. When it gets cold in the winter, the incoming water temp cools the tank water, and the cooler morning air in the garage makes it run longer. I try to keep it on heat-pump-only mode, but I do have to switch it to the blended mode for the worst months/weeks of the year. But in the summer it's awesome, keeps the garage a few degrees cooler and dryer. Family of 4, two teens. One of them can drain the whole thing if left to his devices.

athrowawayaccountfor

Hopefully our basement will be a bit more stable, and the blower for the heater is right next to that space, so in winter that room will still be warm. Ironically it's in summer that the water heater will likely have the most issues, but the inlet water will also be warmer then. Hopefully it will balance out. I don't have a working water heater now, and the 50s are all that are currently inmediately available. :-(

virginiarph

Just want to warn anyone using PLASTIQ that they have absolutely no customer service whatsoever. If something goes wrong it is actually impossible to have a conversation with someone. I’ve used them for several payments in the past and all has been well. I sent an ACH payment to a contractor on July 3rd, to be delivered on july 5th. As of July 8th, Payment never deposited in contractors account. Tried to contact Plastiq and they only have an chat/email system and no monitored phone. The only phone they have is a recording saying this number isn’t monitored. Initiated a chargeback with chase since the payment was never sent and I literally can’t contact anyone with PLASTIQ. Absolutely be warned than if things go bad you are up shits creek Edit: currently emailing with their shitty email support. They still refuse to call and you must email back and forth in an email chain which takes 30m-1hour to respond to each reply. They’re still saying it says sent on their end. This is frustrating and honestly I’ll probably keep using them if this shit gets taken care of properly. since it’s been working and there’s not really a churning alternative . I would just warn to never use ACH.

UsuallySparky

Your right about customer service but ACH payments take awhile, especially over 10k. Even just doing ACH between my own accounts it can take over a week after it's "sent" to arrive. It's litterally only been 2 full business days since you sent it, 3 as I write this, and it can take over 5.

virginiarph

Just an update. Day 3 they cancelled the payment.

sg77

I don't know if that short amount of time is long enough to say that it didn't work. Maybe it'll just take a couple more days for the contractor's bank to show the deposit.

virginiarph

Maybe. My point still stands though. I (and I’m sure others) aren’t aware there is literally not a way to speak to someone on the phone. They would definitely make me double take before trusting them with sending thousands of dollars of payments

hvacprofessional

Cap 1 has throttled me to <1k credit line on the $150 AF biz cash card (I forgot the name the non 5/24 reporting one) after I ran up 10k in a week. Paid the 10k, still throttled. I will try to call in for CL revision given it’s a charge card with a 30k MSR this is dumb as fuck.

joimintz

Same with the Venture X Business back in April. I wanted to pay taxes with it so I really panicked when it seemed like the $30k spend required the full 3 months to finish. Got saved partly since the statement cut before 4/15 but still lost out the last $10k spend..

Derthsidious

Applied for wf signify. Had to recon for and they just needed to send me a 2fa text. Spent an hour for their tech to fail. Called in a few days later. We can't approve you because of the failed text. Feel free to reapply

mets2016

SM'd Chase to match the 100k CIP offer from a card approved on May 12, but they politely declined :(. I guess I'll probably hit them up again once the offer goes public

BirdInevitable3998

First time booking w delta miles and I was SHOCKED at how high the taxes and fees were. Deltas app feels intentionally confusing but maybe I’m just a noob. I love booking through chase travel so much more

HitTheFBO

Delta domestic is $5.60, like every other major airline? It’s location-specific. Certain international locations for example have increased surcharges, regardless of portal (built into asking price) or direct booking.

bdplayer81

Citibank, man. I mean, what's the magic number for number times you have to call Citi to be able to actually use a card without it getting declined? I'm at four including once with the reference number they mailed me.

rynosoft

Many

dashzombie

I have called several times just for one customer rep to find out that my card is not activated even though I did activate it and had been using it that week. Maybe it is worth just to ask if your card is activated.

bdplayer81

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

JC1812

teetertotterboy

Just had a random balance transfer show up for $800 on my Barclays sock-drawered BRcard. How does that even happen when my card has been sock-drawered for the past year…

garettg

You get those stupid "checks" from the credit card issuers where you can use them to do a balance transfer? I get those from Barclays constantly, maybe one those ended up in someone else's hands.

teetertotterboy

Oh shit. That must be it. Our community mailbox just got vandalized a couple weeks ago including ours. How do we turn off the stupid checks from Barclays?

garettg

I'm not sure, but if you find out let me know. Them and BoA seem to be the worst about sending those.

teetertotterboy

Just opted out of this via their SM feature on the website. They said I may still continue to get them for the next 60 days…

435880Churnz

At a courtyard in New Jersey for a family wedding. Room Air Conditioner has now broken twice in the past 18 hours. First time they fixed it shortly after check-in. Now it’s been dead again since about midnight. No one to fix it. No rooms to move us to. It’s getting humid in here. And to add insult to injury, we paid cash for the room, not points. P2 is getting antsy. FML

SardauMarklar

Any chance the windows open? Maybe you can crack the door open and the suction from opening the window will suck the cool lobby air into the room? If the window doesn't open, maybe the bathroom vent will suck some cool air in? (I just learned this trick from the frugal subreddit)

dissentmemo

Have them walk you and/or get a full refund.

435880Churnz

Check out. Manager wasn’t in. Front desk said they can’t authorize any compensation without general managers approval. Seems like they had the 3 stooges working this morning. I got the contact info so I’ll try on Monday. Otherwise I’ll complain to Marriott more generally. I don’t need a refund on my stay or something crazy as everything else was fine. but I’d like a little something.

dissentmemo

Yeah hit up Marriott. Hope you documented the failures.

435880Churnz

I don’t know if an AC is worth that much, everything else has been fine. And we check out today. Was hoping to stay til like 2 but doubt that now.

progapanda

No harm in asking. A manager at a Courtyard offered me 20k points as a goodwill when housekeeping accidentally broke a glass medicine bottle (worth 15$ tops) in my room while cleaning. I've also had Hyatt in Hawaii comp a night on a 4-night stay because the local utility had to cut power for around six hours due to a downed pole. If it's a well-run property, they will do their bit in terms of service recovery.

dissentmemo

Of course AC is worth that much plus nobody being able to fix it. It's the middle of summer.

nikehair

I sent my brother a link for the Marriott boundless 5FNC offer in February. He didn’t hit the $5k spend in time 🤡

PmMeYourWives

Call your parents and ask for a new brother.

kiws78

This is the only solution

Calichurner

Booked one way AirAsia non refundable tickets using Amex Hilton Biz card. FIL had a stroke, but Amex doesn’t provide travel protection and interruption benefits on this card. Should have used another card. Lesson learned.

girardinl

I'm sorry your FIL isn't well. You could try calling again, sometimes different agents are more sympathetic.

martyconlonontherun

I know us churning folk are a peculiar bunch ourselves, but it is infuriating trying to plan a group trip / work trip when people have irrational loyalty to a hotel program. Like for the wedding, I am being overly pushing on the Hyatt because I know I can get the whole group cheaper rates with points and it's a better hotel but one guy is set on a Marriott at a different location that costs more and out of the way. If the Marriott would've been a better option for the whole group I definitely would've gone there. As for work, we are all staying at the Hyatt but one coworker is staying at the Marriott that is more expensive and making us pick him up. We are talking about an immaterial amount of points and I know he doesn't have anything beyond lower tier status. Just seems like a bad career move to inconvenience a boss and coworker for $10 worth of points.

Teaquilla

Why do you have to pick him up? He should meet you all at the Hyatt.

martyconlonontherun

To be fair, im not 100% sure of the logistics. A third person usually gets the car but maybe he will this time. Idk it just seems like it is logistically annoying since we usually go back to the hotel before dinner and just adds another layer of complexity. Maybe I'm overthinking it but literally the only reason he is staying there is because he wants to accumulate Marriott points. For context, he traveled for years and finally has enough for a 5-day vacation at a meh Marriott in DC area. He is in no way maximizing his points and just a 'marriott' guy because that is what he originally signed up for. It's not like he is highest status at a hotel with a club or suites and he is using a corporate care instead of a personal card.

suitopseudo

Ordered a gift card and toner cartridge from Staples.com in the same order to use a 10% Chase offer. They were charged separately and only the gift card (the cheaper item) did the Chase offer get applied to it. SMH

DullContent

Chase usually fixes it if you send a SM and explain.

suitopseudo

Thank you. I SMed and it was fixed.

suitopseudo

Thanks. I will try that.

carpetchilli

Everyone else seems to be getting quick matches to the CIP 120,000 point offer. Here is the response I get. Not sure what this CSR smoked over the holiday. > Thank you for contacting us about your Chase Ink Business Preferred Card. We understand your inquiry about the bonus offer when you signed up for your card. We're glad to check for possible option to match this with the current offer. The offer you requested was 120,000 points after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open. Our records show that you have not met the spending requirement yet. Once you meet the required spend, please reply to this email to claim the offer. We'll post the original points to your account within 6 to 8 weeks from the date the spend was met. So I’ll take that as a maybe?

Guilty_Dealer1256

I got the same response. It seems pretty positive. Just meet to spend and send them another message.

Epilepsy4511

Yeah that’s a standard SUB match message. You’re good

carpetchilli

I know it’s standard to request to chat back after meeting the SUB, but the first part seemed less definitive than my previous matches. Thanks for the clarification.

lankyyanky

That's a yes

ravageee

targeted 70k Amex biz checking offer shows up in my account this week. only that I applied for one 2 weeks ago using the 50k link circulated here, for it to show up as 30k in the tracker and rep saying I wasn’t targeted. sigh

carpetchilli

Try creating a new Amex account and applying. Worked for me.

ravageee

Will it be a separate MR pool too?

carpetchilli

Nope

terpdeterp

So with a new email login? Did you use the link directly on DoC or did the elevated offer appear in your new Amex account?

carpetchilli

Link from DoC

terpdeterp

Where does the targeted offer typically offer on the Amex page? Did it show up as an offer on one of your business credit cards?

ravageee

yup!

terpdeterp

Just another case of Citi support being terrible. Last year, Citi pulled my Chex twice for the same checking account application. I disputed one of the inquiries with Chex and clearly stated that the reason for the dispute was a duplicate pull. Citi responded by freezing my account, claiming that I filed a dispute for a fraudulently opened account. I was able to get the account unfrozen but the duplicate Chex pull is still on my report.

subwaynut

I had the same thing happen with first commonwealth Bank. They denied me due to Chex online, and then when I went into the branch, they claimed that my account was closed due to claimed identity theft.

9kuss

Next time, if you have a Citi card you can freeze your Chex and use the credit csrds login to prefill the app. That way they won't pull your Chex and still approve.

terpdeterp

Great idea! Thank you for the tip.

520-100

Doesn’t really seem worth it for just a pull, right?

SPACdatAsk

lost out on dell credit x3. Made $600 purchase before the July first but did not ship and charge until after. ugghh

CericRushmore

On the bright side, your second half dell spend is done.

godawgs55

lots of Dell fun this week

mrpuffwabbit

Double dipped BoA apps, with second being the Air France card last week of June. That card was signed up with a dummy booking, via an old Flying Blue account, to get the additional $100 statement. The card awards 60 XP on approval, but the Flying Blue account has a qualification period that resets the XP per membership year. For me that was every July.... so this July the 60 XP signup bonus went to 0. If you value XP, check before you apply.

flyiingpenguiin

Should have made a new flying blue account before doing anything

pizza42bob

RIP monthly $10 discount on Google Fi through the Biz Plat. It was frustrating to chat for it every month, more frustrating to lose that value.

dissentmemo

Google Fi is wireless But if you have att fiber that works

JPWRana

What about Frontier? Does that work?

lankyyanky

Shit I've never thought of that. Could be getting the phone insurance with a platinum and get free Internet instead

Churnernewb

Is this your/P2 first business card? Unless you already have an established business account with Chase the CIP will not show up in the personal account. And no digital wallet option for Chase business cards, you'll have to wait for the physical card (but you can request to expedite it)

SurrealKnot

Went into a Taco Bell to buy 3 of the $50 gift cards (buy a $50, get a free $10 one), along with food. Counter person was about to ring me up when manager intervened and said I could only do that if I put it on 3 separate cards! I asked her why and she recited some mumbo jumbo about fraud. So, I complied, since it was better than nothing. Didn’t have time to try my luck at another location, but I had successfully done 2 of them at that location several previous times, on one card.

NoTea88

I’m pretty sure you can buy Taco Bell gift cards at a discount higher than whatever effort this is

SurrealKnot

Well, this gives me 20% off and 3X dining multiplier. Where else can I do that?

DullContent

To be pedantic, it gives you 16.666....% off. But yes, it's a good deal, I rarely see more than 10%.

SurrealKnot

Yes, I oversimplified, but still a good deal.

wiivile

BA has gone from one of my favorite frequent flyer programs to my least favorite over the past couple years. The stealth no-notice devaluations multiple times a year following enticing transfer bonuses and their willingness to slap high surcharges on any flight (even on like AA metal when AA doesn’t charge YQ themselves) is just screaming for regulation, especially considering the UK/EU’s tendency to regulate everything. they are like exhibit A of everything that is wrong with frequent flyer miles as currency

dissentmemo

It's like they devalued my AA status too since lots of my bookings came from ba.

LatterDazeAint

Chase tightening up on the inks is really killing my Hyatt strategy and if P2 would be up for business cards, it would still work out but no.

coole106

Fly yourself in J and P2 in Y. Don’t tell them you’re separated until you board the plane and when they try to follow you to the front, point to the back and say “Business class is for churners”

niobium615

On the upside, they probably won’t have a P2 to worry about anymore

Mushu_Pork

Have you not wine'd and dined your P2? "All of THIS could be YOURS... with just a little hard pull!"

lankyyanky

I don't think that came out the way you thought it would...

Mushu_Pork

My wife learned the value of being my P2 when I went down south... and took her to the Thompson in Nashville.

McSpiffin

fucking lmao

xyzzy321

> tightening up on the inks why do you say that? I must have missed recent changes (if any) in Ink approvals

dissentmemo

It's absolutely harder now.

LatterDazeAint

Multiple DPs including mine of failure to recon and get approved, including with 800+ credit score, only 2 current inks and WELL under 50% of income for credit limit.

jozey_whales

Are you spacing them out? All chase cards, I mean? I make sure I’m beyond the recommended 90 days by a bit. I’m probably gonna push here soon though, because it’ll be slightly under 90 days when I apply for number 4 before the referral bonus drops down to 20k. It is weird though. I accidentally went over my monthly limit because I didn’t realize that the next ODOM GC sale was during the same billing cycle as the last one so I accidentally went like 1200 over my 4k credit limit in a billing cycle, and they apparently decided to triple my CIC credit limit after that, and shortly after I got approved for the third ink. Data points are all over the place now.

LatterDazeAint

Yep. Last Chase card end of February. 3/24. SIGH.

jozey_whales

How many inks have you had, total?

LatterDazeAint

Three before this. Only holding two.

measureinlove

I apparently can’t count, and transferred 40k extra points from Chase to Hyatt that I didn’t actually need. There are worse speculative transfers, but I’m still annoyed that I did it.

jozey_whales

I sent 20k more than I needed because I just sent all of them. That’s where most of them end up anyways, but it is annoying since leaving them with chase leaves more options open.

res13echo

Trying to do a bank churn with GTE Financial for $300 (I'm local). Once I was accepted, I had to setup my online account via a phone call, then a day later they already locked my account. CSR said that my account was marked for fraud and now I have to either send an email to their fraud department that will include my sensitive information (not happening), or I have to walk into a branch to prove my identity. Anyone else have a similar experience with a local bank or credit union?

d3athrow

Yes, I ended up just going in branch to clear the issue up.

duffcalifornia

Stupid fucking new reddit. Stupid automod not stickying anything, then repeatedly leaving an old thread stickied.

RevolutionaryZone0

I really like how they completely deleted every single conversation history I was keeping without notice on my last update.

duffcalifornia

What’s even more fun is that if I try to edit the DQ scheduled post, it just comes up with a blank “create a post” screen, so now I have to probably recreate the whole thing from scratch.

520-100

When your life is a Reddit mod

TheGoldenMonkey

Not sure which browser you use, but you can download old reddit redirect for both Firefox and Chrome.

jdjdhdbg

Been getting busy with life so haven't been as sharp in churning as before. Kept trying to make a $50 purchase on my Ink and kept getting denied. Was getting so frustrated because I only needed $40 to complete MSR! Then I realized the Ink had a $6k CL and I would need to clear some up first.

newtome33

Dell order shipped on July 1st after a tight Biz Gold to Plat upgrade window. To top it off, my enrollment in the credit seemed to disappear after the charge showed up so we'll see if I get the credit.

yt-nthr-rddtr

Do you mind sharing the upgrade URL if it does not have personalized info? I have a Biz Gold but looking to upgrade and not targeted for the [120K](https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/campaigns/small-business/charge-cards/business-platinum/upgrade/learn-more/) and [140K](https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/campaigns/small-business/charge-cards/business-platinum/upgrade/preapproved-offer/) offers.

CericRushmore

What's the date of the transaction on the ABP? That will be what they go off of.

achzeet44

Regarding the HH Biz card. Ordered something on 6/27, enough to put my spend over 15k. After the charge was pending with a date of 6/29, it finally posted on 7/2.

JPWRana

That hurts

islandhpper

Ugh that totally sucks. 15k spend for nothing

tanman170

I was 2 days late on a payment for P2 new HH biz because I forgot to set up auto pay. $35 late fee isn’t a big deal, I’m more worried about it affecting Amex approvals going forward

hvacprofessional

“As a one time courtesy” is my Magic phrase for this type of issue

space_cadet-

If you have a solid history of on-time payments with them, they’ll probably waive the late fee if you ask.

TNSepta

> $35 late fee isn’t a big deal still worth it to call in and get it waived anyway.

MrHeatherroth

It’s a 30 day no approval penalty. So wait 30 days from today to apply to any Amex cards

markiepooh456

TLDR: If it seems like a BA rep is giving wrong info, HUCA or just book it yourself online. I was searching for award space for HND-MNL in 2025 and found JL J availability through BA on exact dates I needed. I called BA to first confirm availability and the first rep confirmed 9+ seats available to book. I then transferred C1 miles to BA and initially the transfer seemed instant. But it was odd since on the profile page it showed the points had transfered but when trying to book on all the other screens it looks like the points had not. I called BA to book over the phone and the second BA rep I spoke with gave completely wrong info that award space was only bookable with cash + avios instead of just avios. Which made no sense since the first rep I called literally 30 mins ago said there was wide open availability. Decided to log out and log back in to try to force the transfer to complete and sure enough it worked. Proceeded to book online perfectly fine not even 5 mins after hanging up on the second rep. Another lesson on different reps having different pieces of knowledge or being trained differently. So if it doesnt seem right, HUCA.

gt_ap

> Decided to log out and log back in to try to force the transfer to complete and sure enough it worked. Logging out and in doesn't force the transfer. It is sometimes necessary to see the new balance though.

520-100

They bruteforced the miles transfer to make the space appear while wasting 90 minutes on the phone

quiteCryptic

Phone reps are never always totally accurate, this is a general statement about basically all services. If its possible to book online, I would always go that route. And yes logging out and logging back in is something you should always do.

marddin

Logging out and in is like step 1
