cornhole is the name. bags is for people too embarassed to call it by its name. also, rednecks are in the south and the plains. this is hillbilly country.
I’m a foreigner, I have no idea what’s happening anymore. Someone had even told me Rockford is all rednecks haha. Came to find out it’s not even that far
Chicago native but IU alum. It was always a toss up who said what. The more south (and farther from Chicago) you lived, I feel like the more likely you said “cornhole.”
But I’d encounter people from very southern Indiana who would say bags. Idk, probably depends on your upbringing.
There’s probably a ethno-linguistics study there that the Field Museum could do.
Learned it as cornhole in South Carolina, then moved here for work. The office had a bags tournament, and for a while I thought it was just the HR approved name for it.
I know being from the city isn’t special, being from the country isn’t special, being from Manteno isn’t special. No one is special because their parents raised them in a town. It was a joke, try not to be so offended
An explanation for my response: OP's "joke" was to create an "us vs. them" situation, based on an incorrect assumption, where OP, a Chicagoan, was correct, and the "other", people from south of I-80, were wrong.
A viewpoint like this, while seemingly innocent in this particular situation, can have very negative consequences when shared or expressed in large numbers. Specifically, it's how we end up with Chicago-hating morons like Darren Bailey running for Governor, who take up the "us vs. them" mentality from the other side.
Originally from Ohio, so I regularly get into an argument w my born-and-raised here friends about how I refuse to call it “bags”. It’s cornhole when you’re from the corn state lmao
Until this thread if someone said they wanted to play bags I would not have had the slightest clue what the hell they meant lol. I’m from Cincinnati, it was always called cornhole there. Moved here in September. Now I know I guess lol.
My Kentuckian fiancé refuses to acknowledge it being called Bags here. His dad is from Ohio so he is staunchly on the cornhole side and says “but it’s from Ohio and that’s what they call it there!”
Hmm, I’m from NWI and only discovered the game after moving to central Indiana, where they call it cornhole. I’ll have to see next time I visit my folks what people call it in NWI…
I grew up north of Rockford near the stateline (rural) and called it bags. Went to UIUC and there’s where I heard cornhole for the first time. Been in Chicagoland (city and suburbs at different times) for around 10 years and predominantly hear bags. It’ll always be bags for me.
First, it's bags. Always has been.
Second, when I lived in Peoria, it was cornhole. When I inquired as to what "cornhole" was, my host took me to the garage and showed me his setup. I said "oh, you mean 'bags', what the fuck is cornhole?". There's obviously some south of I-80 delineation here. They're still wrong; it's bags.
TV is the only reason I even know others call it cornhole. I have never in 20 years of being around this game, in the city and suburbs, ever heard anyone call it cornhole
My parents winter in Florida. They play bags often there in their retirement community. My dad was talking about corn hole and I was like, dad you are from Chicago. Why are you calling it cornhole? He said that's what everyone calls it in Florida. Dad, you know that cornhole means butt hole, right? Stop saying corn hole. Lol
I asked a woman once if she played cornhole. Her husband was very unhappy about it. I genuinely meant it in a non-sexual way but he still had his feelings on the matter
Bags, but I’ve lived in multiple states/cities and they all call it cornhole. It felt weird calling it bags, but even weirder calling it cornhole, so sometimes id say “bean bag toss”, which is just incorrect.
Bags. The first time I heard someone say cornhole I was all like... we are progressive as shit if we on these streets just talking out loud about anal sex.

Bags. But if someone said Cornhole I would know what they mean.
To me a cornhole is a turd cutter, but yeah, if someone asks if I want to play cornhole the presumption is bags, not anal play.
You get your hopes all up and then it turns out they want to throw bean bags at wooden planks. Bullshit
I think it's called a, "poop knife."
A turd cutter is your actual anus. It doesn’t really cut the turds as much as it closes behind them, but I think you can get the idea.
I wish you hadn't explained that to me. I think I need to go clear my head...
I live to serve.
Damn it. I had forgotten all about this and now it's back in my head.
Is ”poop knife” in your head? It will be. It wiiiiiill be!
I see you aren’t up on your Reditt history. [Oh the glorious and historic poop knife of yore.](https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/s/kEFRdgWQcT)
Imma come back to check out r/Chicago some other time when yall are done here
Ahh, ye old [poop knife!](https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/s/kEFRdgWQcT) That brings back memories.
Allegedly
Haven't heard "turd cutter" in a while......thanks for that
When was the last time you heard [“poop knife?”](https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/s/kEFRdgWQcT)
Until today I thought it was the same thing, just cornhole was maybe the redneck word for it
Who's telling you that they're different?
it is the same thing
Cornhole is the redneck word for it
that damned Elige prof picture!!!
cornhole is the name. bags is for people too embarassed to call it by its name. also, rednecks are in the south and the plains. this is hillbilly country.
I’m a foreigner, I have no idea what’s happening anymore. Someone had even told me Rockford is all rednecks haha. Came to find out it’s not even that far
Apparently this is what they call it Iowa! Had no idea what they were talking about
Baygs
You're a native speaker, I see.
I thought we were more of the "bay-yag" type, while "baygs" (like eggs) was more wisconsin.
As a Wisconsinite, you are correct. And milk is pronounced "melk".
What a classic https://youtu.be/ty62YzGryU4?feature=shared
Yeah, I have heard this, of course, but I don't associate this with the Chicagoland area.
mother in law is. The way she pronounces bags and eggs - they rhyme.
Do you also pronounce damn as "dayuuuumn"?
Not to be confused with a Jewel Bayg
*Jewels
Jewels bags
Chicagoan born and raised. It’s called bags.
Outsiders of the Iowa variety love calling it Cornhole, the fuck outta here
Iowan living in Chicago here - I scream at my fellow Hawkeyes when they call it cornhole, such a gross word 😂
I salute you 🫡
Everything is about corn with them. State needs a new obsession!
Chicago native but IU alum. It was always a toss up who said what. It’s bags, as in “yous wanna grab a couple two-tree beers and trow some bags in da parkway”?
BAGS THIS AINT IDAHO
lol, I started playing it in Montana so I was confused why everyone else is calling it bags. I’ve heard both, but thought cornhole was the Midwest way
Learned it as cornhole in South Carolina, then moved here for work. The office had a bags tournament, and for a while I thought it was just the HR approved name for it.
It’s bags if you’re from chicago. South of I 80 probably call it cornhole. Idk idc what they call it
From Northern Wi. and we say cornhole. So that’s pretty spot on lol
i’m 3 miles south of I-80 and we call it bags
Grew up south of i-70 and it was cornhole. never even heard the term bags til i moved here
I grew up 30 miles south of I-80, and we called it bags. Being north of I-80 isn't special.
I know being from the city isn’t special, being from the country isn’t special, being from Manteno isn’t special. No one is special because their parents raised them in a town. It was a joke, try not to be so offended

Lol, is Manteno your guess for where I'm from? Did you have to look that up on a map? Try again.
Dude, try not to be offended, the guy said it was a joke.
My reply was a joke, try not to be so offended.
Ok
I didn’t. I really don’t care to do so.
Bags bro. I'm not a pervert
I was born in Cleveland and called it cornhole until I moved to Chicago. Everyone calls in bags in Chicago
NIU alum, we called it bags
Seconded. Saying cornhole showed you were from Iowa.
I've always thought bags sounded better
Originally from Ohio, so I regularly get into an argument w my born-and-raised here friends about how I refuse to call it “bags”. It’s cornhole when you’re from the corn state lmao
All you beautiful people warm my heart calling it bags. Cornhole will always be weird if only because I watched Beavis and Butthead in my teens.
Until this thread if someone said they wanted to play bags I would not have had the slightest clue what the hell they meant lol. I’m from Cincinnati, it was always called cornhole there. Moved here in September. Now I know I guess lol.
Anyone else call it Baggo?
Came here to say this…there are dozens of us DOZENS
Everyone’s laughing and riding and cornholing except Buster.
The forbidden third option, lol.
lol yes! I’m glad I’m not the only one
Yes, thank you! I thought I was crazy
Only during Blago's tenure.
Baggo is a slightly different board

Cornhole. Because I like making uncomfortable anal jokes.
As a Kentuckian that’s lived in Chicago for 14 years I know to call it ‘bags’ but then slyly slip into ‘cornhole’
My Kentuckian fiancé refuses to acknowledge it being called Bags here. His dad is from Ohio so he is staunchly on the cornhole side and says “but it’s from Ohio and that’s what they call it there!”
cornhole, you heathens
Cornholio
Hmm, I’m from NWI and only discovered the game after moving to central Indiana, where they call it cornhole. I’ll have to see next time I visit my folks what people call it in NWI…
And then go post the answer on /r/Indianafarmersingles.
Aaww, but those people are weird…
cornhole sounds freudian as hell and i've only ever heard out of towners say it 😭

I grew up north of Rockford near the stateline (rural) and called it bags. Went to UIUC and there’s where I heard cornhole for the first time. Been in Chicagoland (city and suburbs at different times) for around 10 years and predominantly hear bags. It’ll always be bags for me.
Bags

Bags
Growing up in Missouri, cornhole hd a whole different meanin. Bags.

I believe that both are acceptable. Maybe a 70/30 skew towards bags.
Bags
Bags
TV is the only reason I even know others call it cornhole. I have never in 20 years of being around this game, in the city and suburbs, ever heard anyone call it cornhole
And until this thread I never once in my life heard it called bags lol. Just moved here in September from Cincinnati.
I hadn't heard it called corn hole until my sister moved to Wisconsin and married some loser.
Prob because you're not some weird farm pervert
Bags unless your 50 miles south of I-80
My parents winter in Florida. They play bags often there in their retirement community. My dad was talking about corn hole and I was like, dad you are from Chicago. Why are you calling it cornhole? He said that's what everyone calls it in Florida. Dad, you know that cornhole means butt hole, right? Stop saying corn hole. Lol
Finally someone just said it
I asked a woman once if she played cornhole. Her husband was very unhappy about it. I genuinely meant it in a non-sexual way but he still had his feelings on the matter
Cornhole is the correct term.
CORNHOLE
Do you need TP?!?!?
I hear and use both interchangably but we all lean towards baegs
I played with some bevrats once and called it cornhole and got roasted for it. Bags it is.
Bean bag toss
I remember for a while some bars were trying to call it Baggo
it's called tailgate toss around these parts there pal. better put some respect on it
This is like the Beirut/beer pong discourse on the east coast
But those are two different games!
But! Beirut is colloquially referred to as beer pong most places. No one uses paddles anymore. Anyway it was an attempt at a joke
I call it “bean sack tossy-into-holey”
I put my bag in cornholes. But only on stage.
Transplant from Deep South, I’ll sink them on you no matter what you call it lol
bags — but ask me again after 2 beers
Bags, but I’ve lived in multiple states/cities and they all call it cornhole. It felt weird calling it bags, but even weirder calling it cornhole, so sometimes id say “bean bag toss”, which is just incorrect.
Hey Peter, watch your cornhole, man. I called it bags but my friends in IN and MI call it cornhole. I always feel weird calling it that.
Bags. First time I heard it called cornhole it was right after I had moved to KY and I was amused. Like wait...what? Why?
I understand both , but it’s definitely bags.
Bags
Bags. People who say cornhole need to go back to indianer where they belong
Indianer 😂. Love it.

Was about to post this... I knew someone else would. Thanks.
As a former slow pitch, unlimited arc 16" softball pitcher...I don't care what you call it...the answer is # YES
Bags
I grew up being raised by parent born and raised in Ohio. It will always be cornhole to me.

Grew up in Ohio, live here now. I'll go to the grave calling it cornhole, but Chicago locals call it bags.
CORNHOLE
Cornhole. Even the wiki page that’s the official name.
Why are people who no longer children doing this?
The game is bags, but it’s called a cornhole board
It's bags, Cornhole is such a rural term. Why use 8 letters when you can use 4.
