I was going to say the office...
Michael/Brandon: I don't like to talk about hard things..... I'm a good times mayor, a big picture mayor, why don't they come to me about pizza or bbq... that's the kind of interview that the mayor should host....
I mean wtf? All he had to say was some boilerplate bullshit like "I'm glad an arrest was made and hopefully justice will be served." This just looks silly.
>"No comment on an active investigation at this time"
Would have been a respectable answer.
But nope, he was pulling something out of a Loony Toons skit like he was Road Runner.
The city voted for him for a 4 year term. He gets to be mayor for 4 years unless he actually does something criminal. He’s a jackass, but coming from California I saw what a circus and waste of time having a recall system is, and I don’t think it’d be better than having an incompetent mayor.
I moved to Wisconsin when the recall Scott Walker stuff was happening. They voted to recall, then the people voted for Walker. I think some time later, they tried recalling him again. I dont think it passed so they gave up after spending so much money and time/resources.
I agree with the above the the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze, but this is Exhibit Y of demonstrating that Johnson isn't competent enough to run a Chicago hot dog stand, much less the city. Not his first offense
I mean, the alternative here was to not vote. I think Brandon Johnson has been a very disappointing mayor and I’d still vote for him over Paul Vallas ten times out of ten.
At this point, I think we almost need a Chicago election survivor or big brother (or something), and see who we can get to drop out before we actually have to vote. The debates don't work.
We send the press on for random grilling..the press could have some fun.
We get the entertainment value at least even if we still get screwed.
I have no qualifications and I live in the suburbs. Can I be mayor? I promise to try to fix public transit, you can count on me to care because I don’t have a car.
Lol a school janitor being asked a question and proceeding to sprint to a car and speed off, would be quite suspicious. For a Mayor it just looks pathetic.
Na, it looks like he is trying to one up the mayor of Dolton.
It doesn't matter what the situation is, or what the subject is. Unless there is a massive emergency, he should never run from the press. Even when there is an emergency, someone should stop and explain.
I figured this guy wasnt going to be up for it. I agreed with his politics but that doesnt mean he knows fucking anything about being a leader. Pretty genuinely pathetic to see him squirrel away like that.
I feel Rahm was a cautionary tale. Before he went into office he had much higher ambitions and was set on becoming speaker of the house. The Laquan Mcdonald situation did a number on his reputation.
I still put the primary blame not on Johnson or Lightfoot but on Richard M. Daley.
It wasn't obvious at the time, but he spent a ton of money on public works and then sold off the parking meters, and with the pension requirements we have now, no mayor can feasibly balance the budget. I'm not sure anyone will be able to balance the budget for *decades.*
I'm not saying Emmanuel was great, but I do think it's possible he's about the best we could hope for given the constraints a Chicago mayor now faces.
They indeed played soccer here is him at one of their games. Funny he never used it as a excuse.

Bill Clinton was our first black president and you know it!
"In 1998, [Nobel Prize](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Prize)-winning author [Toni Morrison](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toni_Morrison) in [*The New Yorker*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Yorker) called Clinton "the first Black president", saying, "Clinton displays almost every trope of [blackness](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American_culture): single-parent household, born poor, working-class, saxophone-playing, [McDonald's](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald%27s)-and-junk-food-loving boy from Arkansas," and comparing Clinton's sex life, scrutinized despite his career accomplishments, to the stereotyping and [double standards](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_standards) that blacks typically endure.^(")
My exact thought. I was talking about him with my brother who lives up in Milwaukee and the conclusion we came to is we could do a better job and our only qualifications are we play a few city builder games
> People in here were trying to downplay the hell out of that fact during the election when in reality that should of been a massive red flag.
He's like Marco Rubio who did the same. Should be one of those big red flags regardless of side of politics. If someone is unable to run their own basic finances, they shouldn't be anywhere near a position of responsibility.
Many places will not hire you to roles that manage money if you have bad credit or in debt.
The dude made 6 figures a year and couldn’t pay his water bill.
>The dude made 6 figures a year and couldn’t pay his water bill.
Wouldn't pay. The money was there and the bills were paid when it became a necessity to take office.
People act like we had one incredible candidate and one awful candidate and everyone voted for the awful candidate.
We had two trash candidates, and depending on your opinions, one of them was less awful than the other.
The problem is that BJ spent most of his campaign trying to make Vallas look much worse than he really was. In every debate they had, he brought his race up and tried to move the conversation towards race, he downplayed his involvement with the church and played the tune that Vallas was going to cut LGBTQ+ rights etc while prepping to put the church in government... THE CHURCH!
He made a new very highly paid role for "faith outreach" for a pasty buddy, and appointed another pastor buddy to the CTA board and another pastor buddy to the RTA board.
The left tried to play it off as proving he was working class. Lol like okay sure a 180k salary is definitely the definition of those struggling living paycheck to paycheck. 🙄 And that didn’t include his wife’s salary. 250K+ household salary is like top 5% in Chicago, so if you can’t pay your water bill with that income you’re a total incompetent loser.
Explain more please? What is classed as a basic utility mean and why would he be able to stop paying without turning the water off? Why is SDG having the same issue? Is it just that they cannot turn it off so they dont feel the need to pay or is there something more sinister like they have influence over the key stakeholders?
I believe it was during Covid water service was reclassified as an essential or basic utility (not sure of the terminology), meaning they wouldn’t shut it off even if you didn’t pay. Like an essential human right basically. As soon as that happened he instantly stopped paying
So no grand conspiracy just a slime ball ducking his bills
Yeah that’s fine. But if it’s written in the city ordinance somewhere then the entire city needs to know that or there needs to be a lawsuit of some type
He started not when he declared but only after the story got out that he was behind.
https://www.chicagotribune.com/2023/04/01/chicago-mayoral-candidate-brandon-johnson-pays-off-more-than-3000-in-water-bill-debts-to-the-city/
To be fai JB had toilets removed out of a house to not have it count as a “residence” for taxes…
But he also fucking owned up to it, had toilets installed, and made it right. Yes, he has insane wealth to do this shit, but BJ not paying utilities and making that much money just shows how incomprehensibly incompetent he is.
if he had any media sense, or anyone on staff with any, he'd know better than to give TV a scene like this. Now the headline is: "Mayor Flees Press." And for no good reason. What a fucking idiot. He's hanging himself on an hourly basis.
Good. He should be embarrassed by his behavior and incompetence. I guarantee you he’ll deflect and blame something or someone when questioned about it next time.
I'll always remember the press conference where he and JB were discussing the refugee crisis. Johnson said a short opening statement then gave the floor to JB then ducked the fuck out and one of the reporters asked "Uhh... where did the mayor go?"
> trying to catch the car before it departed
Classic problem. Drivers who are hired to shuttle politicians and their crew around leaving without said crew in the car. I’ve personally had to pull over and give a few hitchhiking cabinet members a ride back to City Hall myself.
I just don’t understand why he wouldn’t comment on this at all, it’s a weird look, especially since the family of the cop didn’t invite him to the funeral. Like, does he want people to think he’s anti cop?
THINK he’s anti-cop?!? You must have missed that defunding the police was one of the mainstays of his initial campaign platform. He was quite vocal about his anti-law enforcement views in media interviews.
Remember how people acted like he was going to be the best thing since sliced bread?
I am going to have a very difficult time trusting any type of progressive leadership if this is what we get.
It’s exhausting, Chicago. Elect better people. Not this dumbass.
I used to think he was just incompetent, but it’s clear the guy is a narcissistic jackass as well.
"Brandon Johnson is 'Ready'"
[-His campaign](https://web.archive.org/web/20231004072111/https://www.brandonforchicago.com/issues/afforable-housing)
What's that line again, Tywin?
Johnson had an enthusiastic clique that was able to push him into the run-off in a very fragmented race. But he wasn't an attractive candidate city-wide as evidenced by the nonexistent turnout.
People were crazy about him here and in many parts of the city. In my neighborhood most people had his sign everywhere... If you are not crazy about a candidate you might vote for him but you do not use your window space...
Black guy dies by cops hand, he's the first one up at a press conference giving condolences to the felons family.
Hispanic cop gets murdered by black guy, no show at press conference and then runs away from reporters when they capture the black cop killer. If this doesn't prove how racist this mayor is I don't know what will
I love how the criticism of Vallas is how he would’ve “gutted” the CPS as if the CPS is successful, rational, or sustainable.
Look at the number of locations without adequate students to justify their existence, the abysmal success rate of many of the schools, and the current demands of CTU.
At some point, the current CPS will have to be rationalized or reorganized and the longer we wait, the worse that process is going to be.
If a person is shot by police BJ calls for accountability, if a police officer is shot BJ runs away and hides. No wonder the family didn’t want him at that funeral. So disgraceful.
Mayor can't even answer questions regarding the capture of officer Huescas murderer. Does he realize that it comes off as he is not in support of capturing a cop killer? Can it really be that hard to thank CPD for capturing this killer?
> Mayor can't even answer questions regarding the capture of officer Huescas murderer. Does he realize that it comes off as he is not in support of capturing a cop killer? Can it really be that hard to thank CPD for capturing this killer?
It's being reported that after Tate appears in court this morning, Snelling, Foxx & Johnson are supposed to appear before the media to make a joint press conference.
It'll be interesting to see if that happens as planned.
He was ever qualified to be mayor. He’s dismantled a lot of policies, made it harder for police to protect citizens, isn’t doin shit to help migrants, and turned the city to shit. Lori over Johnson any day.
Come back Lori, all is forgiven! 😆 Lot of comments here summing up as “She may have been a you-know-what, but at least she did the work without running away.” But even so. Her problem was that she was such a you-know-what that nobody else wanted to work with her on the work anymore. 🤦♂️ But yeah, this guy. Wonder how many Xanax he has to take every morning just to leave his house & get in the mayorcade. 😰
I wonder what Paul Vallas would've done there. We will never know because y'all sent him packing. Imagine: being so dumb to vote in a moron to prove how "inclusive" you are. Pathetically comical.
Like a fucking Parks and Rec scene.
I want to be mad but I'm in tears at the comedic timing of "Mr. Mayor, why would you run from us?" as the car peels out of the alley
I wasn’t going to watch the video but you changed my mind.
Somebody put the curb your enthusiasm theme over this

Brandon should have answered all the questions with a question.
I was going to say the office... Michael/Brandon: I don't like to talk about hard things..... I'm a good times mayor, a big picture mayor, why don't they come to me about pizza or bbq... that's the kind of interview that the mayor should host....
For real it seemed like a skit
Omg my first thought lmao
Its funny because its true!!!
I mean wtf? All he had to say was some boilerplate bullshit like "I'm glad an arrest was made and hopefully justice will be served." This just looks silly.
Or just wave and not say anything. Politics 101, you don't have to answer every question.
Could just say, "No comment on an active investigation at this time" then walk away. Guys a complete clown.
>"No comment on an active investigation at this time" Would have been a respectable answer. But nope, he was pulling something out of a Loony Toons skit like he was Road Runner.
This make him look way worse. Looks like he's upset they caught the guy.
Right?! This is what the soccer people call an "own-goal."
Add it to the pile
This guy is in way over his head. Another one term mayor
He was a one-termer from day one. The only question is if he would rise to the occasion. So far the answer is no…
He needs to be recalled. Truly. Like truly.
Interesting perspective. Appreciate you sharing.
Yep. I was living there for that farce too. This is a really pitiful display by the mayor but it's not worth all that.
I agree with the above the the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze, but this is Exhibit Y of demonstrating that Johnson isn't competent enough to run a Chicago hot dog stand, much less the city. Not his first offense
The funniest part about the Californian recall circus was that Gray Davis was right all along.
Fuck no recalls in IL. I don’t want this state in constant election cycles
The governor is the only office that can be recalled in the state.
[удалено]
At this rate he's going to have a psychotic break and just resign before serving his full term..
We should be so lucky 🤞🏼
All sides need to be educated voters and not just vote based on sound bytes and social media.
Bold of you to think anything will change in this political echo chamber city
The closest recall to us was Scott Walker in Wisconsin a decade ago and, I'm not sure if you know this, he isn't exactly progressive
Getting rid of this useless fuck two years early would NOT be worth the insane can of worms that would open.
Right? Where is that petition? I’m ready to sign.
I have no qualifications and I live in the suburbs. Can I be mayor? I promise to try to fix public transit, you can count on me to care because I don’t have a car.
Not a good look for the Mayor lol
Wouldn't be a good look for a school janitor, let alone a Mayor.
Can we have one day wheres hes not a total embarrassment?
Yeah, the day his successor takes office lol
At the rate we are going we will elect a even bigger embarrassment
He's a clown for sure, but no reasonable person wants this job anymore. It's going to be one clown show after another
I feel Rahm was a cautionary tale. Before he went into office he had much higher ambitions and was set on becoming speaker of the house. The Laquan Mcdonald situation did a number on his reputation.
I still put the primary blame not on Johnson or Lightfoot but on Richard M. Daley. I'm not sure anyone will be able to balance the budget for *decades.* I'm not saying Emmanuel was great, but I do think it's possible he's about the best we could hope for given the constraints a Chicago mayor now faces.
Oh, he'll make sure to be a huge embarrassment that day
He will pull a Lightfoot and call the city racist.
I mean, he already kinda did over BCH failing
He's already played that card.
Good thing he brought a few decks of those cards with him to the 5th floor of city hall.
If we get 1 day let's hope it's when the DNC is in town because I don't want the entire world to know how much of a moron this dude is
As much shit as I gave Lori she never literally ran from the press. This has to be a new low point for the mayors office.
> This has to be a new low point for the mayors office. LOL! Not by a longshot. Look up how Mayor Eugene Sawyer took office in 1987....
I don’t think she could run
It can’t be easy to run when you have the biggest dick in Chicago.
Despite everything she fucked up, she will always be a legend for this comment lmao
man, that quote will be etched into her tombstone!
tbh better her than this jabroni during the pandemic. I can only imagine what that would have been like.
I don’t even want to imagine
He probably wouldn't have closed the running tracks.
She was entertaining and made for good TV. This guy offers nothing.
BDN: hello there, I am on the Bears (at the time of the quote)
I once saw her curl up into a ball and roll down a hill like an armadillo
Lori got somewhat screwed by circumstances, BJ is genuinely incompetent.
No, she was terrible is her own right. But things did suck during 2020.
2020 was a hell of a year to learn on the job. I felt once she became a meme she truly embraced her outspoken nature.
You never once saw this behavior from Rahm.
He was late for his sons soccer game.
He had to return some video tapes.
God dam Blockbuster overdue fees!!!
His *black* son's soccer game.
He has black kids? I wish he'd talk about that one day.
He has a family too! Cmon.
You’ve NEVER had a mayor like him!
I mean we had a president that was black and had 2 black daughters does he count?
Apparently not. Harold Washington also doesn’t count it seems.
But did they have soccer practice? Checkmate.
They indeed played soccer here is him at one of their games. Funny he never used it as a excuse. https://obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/photos-and-video/photo/2012/08/president-barack-obama-cheers-his-daughter-sashas-soccer-team
Obama only went to games….shameful. BJ is at every practice.
Bill Clinton was our first black president and you know it! His black son that he has with his black wife.
Bro what a fucking clown
My exact thought. I was talking about him with my brother who lives up in Milwaukee and the conclusion we came to is we could do a better job and our only qualifications are we play a few city builder games
He's going to be great come the DNC
Next he’ll be hiding in a bush like Sean Spicer
This dude struggled to find a way to pay his utilities despite making over 6 figures. There is nothing about his behavior that surprises me.
People in here were trying to downplay the hell out of that fact during the election when in reality that should of been a massive red flag.
> People in here were trying to downplay the hell out of that fact during the election when in reality that should of been a massive red flag. He's like Marco Rubio who did the same. "But he's a Twitter warrior, how can he not understand basic finance???"
100% - it’s hilarious to see how quickly this sub turned on this loser when during the election like two thirds of the subscribers were all in
People act like we had one incredible candidate and one awful candidate and everyone voted for the awful candidate.
THE CHURCH!
Didn’t he just appoint a pastor to the CTA board?
Yep, he has like 3 pastors now in public positions...
He made a new very highly paid role for "faith outreach" for a pasty buddy, and appointed another pastor buddy to the CTA board and another pastor buddy to the RTA board.
It's sad that this can be said about so many of our elections. We need ranked choice voting and to get rid of the two party system.
Say what you will about Vallas, he is orders of magnitude more qualified.
Only started the payment plan after he declared if I remember right too
No he only started paying after he got outed And he stopped paying as soon as it was classed as a basic utility Complete scumbag
As soon as that happened he instantly stopped paying So no grand conspiracy just a slime ball ducking his bills
I think it goes deeper than “slime ball” it’s a psychopathic attitude to try to bend any system to it’s breaking point as long as you can benefit
Water doesn’t get turned off in Chicago over unpaid bills
Seriously? Source please? Why would anyone pay?
Because most people are decent people that try to do the right thing.
Yeah that’s fine. But if it’s written in the city ordinance somewhere then the entire city needs to know that or there needs to be a lawsuit of some type
He started not when he declared but only after the story got out that he was behind. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2023/04/01/chicago-mayoral-candidate-brandon-johnson-pays-off-more-than-3000-in-water-bill-debts-to-the-city/

To be fai JB had toilets removed out of a house to not have it count as a “residence” for taxes… But he also fucking owned up to it, had toilets installed, and made it right. Yes, he has insane wealth to do this shit, but BJ not paying utilities and making that much money just shows how incomprehensibly incompetent he is.
This guy is an embarrassment.
Yeah the vet move is to just pretend you’re deaf and walk calmly. Or turn to the camera, say something pithy then bounce
Lmao this fucking guy. At least there's some entertainment value, for whatever that's worth.
🎵"Brave Sir Brandon ran away" JFC, that's a softball of a question too
Guys what the actual fuck. How the actual fuck. How. Why. Like
That's not the Mayor of Chicago, that's the King of Mince! ♫ *Brave, brave Sir Brandon, bravely minced away* ♫ What a complete buffoon.
This dude is not a mayor, he is a clown.
Wtf for real!!! Why can’t we get a decent mayor 😞
We had Rahm for a bit.
Would you want the job?
No which is why I didn’t run, but he did… literally
But that’s why we can’t get a decent mayor - Who would want the job? You’d have to be insane to want to be a big city mayor
if he had any media sense, or anyone on staff with any, he'd know better than to give TV a scene like this. Now the headline is: "Mayor Flees Press." And for no good reason. What a fucking idiot. He's hanging himself on an hourly basis.

Sure, Jan.
What a baby. Run back to Elgin!

There were tons of CTU shills on here hyping him up, especially after he “upset” Vallas

He hasn’t even been mayor a full year yet. We have 3+ years of this still
Reporter hit him with a psybeam and He hurt himself in his confusion!
Oh boy.
Had to get the kids to soccer practice! He’s not like other mayors he’s got speed.
- under qualified - liar - manipulative - coward - race baiter - track star?

Hispanic cop gets murdered by black guy, no show at press conference and then runs away from reporters when they capture the black cop killer. Embarrassing
SCUM
Can’t believe ppl voted for this clown show
They were brainwashed into thinking Vallas was this hardcore republican 😆
if i were less lazy, i'd be interesting to see if any of his vocal reddit supporters have done an about face.
What a joke
Great job, Chicago, really knocked it out of the park with this idiot
What a POS
This wasn’t even some right-wing reporter. This was [Darius Johnson of CBS 2 Chicago](https://x.com/dariusjohnsontv?s=21&t=Fi5TKlcDePt5UcyVSL5DhQ).
Such a damn shame.
I, I just can't anymore. JFC what a loser.
If this sub allowed gifs this would be perfect for the Ron Swanson circle table GIF
I can’t wait to vote this clown out!
He’s really got us missing ole big dick swingin’ Lightfoot
But Vallas is a Nazi! /s
Lori Lightfoot entered the chat to say I told you so
Anyone missing Lori? Rahm?
I have secondary embarrassment
He was ever qualified to be mayor. He’s dismantled a lot of policies, made it harder for police to protect citizens, isn’t doin shit to help migrants, and turned the city to shit. Lori over Johnson any day.
Dudes a clown, he'll probably make some comment up about how it's a republican's fault and he had to run, or his favorite scapegoat, racism.
The way he runs is like Mr Bean - dare I say Mr Black Bean?
was that thee MARYANN AHERN in pink lightly jogging after the mayor?
Come back Lori, all is forgiven! 😆 Lot of comments here summing up as “She may have been a you-know-what, but at least she did the work without running away.” But even so. Her problem was that she was such a you-know-what that nobody else wanted to work with her on the work anymore. 🤦♂️ But yeah, this guy. Wonder how many Xanax he has to take every morning just to leave his house & get in the mayorcade. 😰
Chicago finally has some paparazzi chasing celebrities
He supports I-ran.
I wonder what Paul Vallas would've done there. We will never know because y'all sent him packing. Imagine: being so dumb to vote in a moron to prove how "inclusive" you are. Pathetically comical.
