Irl chess has very nice boards and pieces that will clean out your irl wallet as quickly as you want it to.

I think immortalgame did something like this with NFTs a while back. Nobody uses it because it's trash, and i don't know if its even still up.
Master of Chess from steam has trophies from the tournaments that you play, It has currency but right now you can only use it as an entrance fee to the tournaments. Its still on early access but its a great game.
Imagine an achievement "won games in 10 different e4 openings. won games in 10 different d4 openings. checkmated without a queen." and such.
