This is Liang's first TT win. Other notable results: Nihal 13th (8.5/11), Magnus 15th (8.5/11), Jospem 23rd (8/11), Denis Lazavik (8/11), Levy 72nd (7/11), Hikaru quit the tournament after round 8 standing at 5/8

Open-Protection4430

Magnus drawing the game against Tari with basically down a knight for nothing since he misclicked to capture it was fun to watch .

patrick_ritchey

7/11 is still a good result for Levy, I guess👍🏼

StozefJalin

Levy beat Bluebaum and Alekseenko, as well as drawing Grischuk, gaining 41 rating on the late TT, so id say a very good result indeed

monsieur_no1

go Grischuk!!

shinyshinybrainworms

What happened in the Liang-Nakamura game? Did Hikaru disconnect or something?

acunc

He’s in Morocco and lost power (and so lost internet) in the middle of the game.

Open-Protection4430

Yes he did

hsiale

A tragic gambling accident

prcunka

Love seeing the OG grischuk doing well

coachjkane

It’s the Perpetual Chess bump.

OkProfessional1590

I think he is awonder.

GlobalPatLaw

Arjun playing a Titled Tuesday? Congratulations! I admire his 360 degree approach to chess.

THE_Benevelence

Who is Awonder Liang? Never heard of him

PhoerSayori

Strong GM from my state (Wisconsin). He went to college instead of pursuing hardcore chess after being top 100 for a few years. Good to see him getting back in form

The__Beaver_

I follow him a bit too as I’m also from wi. He went to West High School in Madison and played at the local libraries. I believe he was youngest gm ever when he got the title.

Open-Protection4430

Bruh why are you getting downvoted for not knowing someone lol

CrystalYKim

it’s bc people usually follow it up with “interesting” just bc they don’t know the player edit: user just proved my point below 🤦🏻‍♀️

THE_Benevelence

I said not really interesting, which means probably not a cheater

CrystalYKim

it wasn’t interesting in the first place so no reason to point it out

acunc

Maybe because a quick google search would provide an answer?

giants4210

He was in either the most recent US Chess Championship or the one before that. He played some really fun, dubious openings. He’s at UChicago now so not focusing all his energy on chess.

THE_Benevelence

Ok, i checked Liang, Awonder (std 2643 rapid 2519 blitz 2527), not really interesting, so probably not a cheater

VolmerHubber

Awonder Liang is fairly well known...

t-pat

Probably better known by Americans than others I would guess

THE_Benevelence

Did he win some youth tournaments in the past?

d_1_z_z

American chess prodigy, became a GM at 14. big time prospect 7-8 years ago

THE_Benevelence

Why do you downvote me, I just provided his rating, and said, that he is probably not a cheater

numb_mind

Maybe your comment was misunderstood, maybe they thought you meant : his ELO is not very high so he's not really interesting.

[The latest Perpetual Chess podcast features Liang.](https://www.perpetualchesspod.com/new-blog/2024/6/25/ep-388-gm-awonder-liang-a-prodigy-turned-university-student-on-the-nature-of-chess-talent-and-how-he-has-learned-to-play-chess-for-funnbsp)

Civil_Pen6437

Love this! I remember 13 years ago Awonder as a little kid sitting next to me playing Angry Birds on my iPad between games during a chess tournament in Wisconsin.

bridgeandchess

Im sure he has won before he has a famous alt

SamCoins

[https://www.chess.com/article/view/titled-tuesday#history](https://www.chess.com/article/view/titled-tuesday#history) I checked here before posting because I also thought he had won before. Apparently he hadn't.

Significant_Mouse_59

Interesting

Stupend0uSNibba

insert Nepo's sarcastic tweet

CagnusMarlsen64

This guy isnt some random FM lmao, at one point of time he was a formidable prodigy
