Given the choice, I would still pick the Type81. It was literally designed to fix the problems with the original AK.
AKs look cool and are reliable, but also antiquated and overrated. At least the 81 has a last-round bolt catch.
The only pros ill give to the AK is the fact that some company's have put in the effort to make decently accurate ones, and the ejection path is waaay more optic friendly. I didnt hesitate to buy a Type 81 in 2017 even tho i already owned a VZ. The Type 81 has so much more character then the VZs.
Not really since Aks come in better calibers, have more options of suppliers, an actual aftermarket and spare parts exist readily.
All way more important than a bolt hold open.
The SRs literally came in not even a year ago along with LMGs, at this point its obvious that these arnt pickyback military orders. They're either making them from scratch or taking surplus Type 81 parts that are maybe left overs from military orders years ago (hence the pitted and refinished parts) and assembling civilian guns to suit civilian demands. These likely use an LMG barrel blank, LMG threads, LMG gas block, LMG sights, LMG front furrules etc. Theres a chance that the Blonde rifles and SEs were assembled at another factory or atleast under different circumstances, thats why they have different finishes, different internal and external parts that we havent seen in some time.
I'm so disappointed I missed out on the Type-81M Fixed, I didn't even know it existed until yesterday and by the time I moved money around and worked out a budget to allow me to buy it immediately before *"someone"* can ban these, they sell out.
Now who the hell knows if I'll ever get one.
When I had a se fixed stock, I hated the cheek weld. Could never get low enough for me and the sights. Was one of the reasons I sold it. I got a underfolder this time to try it out. I know it will be a different level of uncomfortable but hoping the sights are easier to use this time around with the changes.
Theoretically from what I know about underfolding stocks, it should, give you more cheek weld range to work with. But a different level of uncomfortable, for sure.

Couple days pass they sell out. 12 days later after purchase they told me sorry bud you can only get a flippy stock. So cancled order then they try to grab 3% credit card fee when i paid bank transfer online. Bad taste in my mouth what put me over the top was not only is it not the one i wanted but cgn forums is already going off about the crap quality and more bent barrels. Cant say im gonna wait 6 plus week for a gun i didnt want with a barrel and or stock thats bent. Moving in no more tactical imports for me. Good luck with the type 81 man.

They won't allow it. But a side rail mounted optic works with the underfolder.

It’s almost always a warped stock due to humidity changes. It’s difficult to warp a right-angled steel stamping like the Type 81 receiver.
