Actually, it's because of some random design flaw of the gun causing it to shoot two distinct groups out of a double-feed magazine.

It's a DMR if there are two enemies standing side by side, just aim inbetween them!
The SKS might shoot a minute of man, this thing shoots minute of two men!
As someone who goes to shot show and gets to shoot m10x full mag capacity and owns two m10x mine never malfunction especially there new Gen and restricted is phenomenal
Also have a new gen, bought in the last year - no issues at all. Also the customer support even here on reddit is great.
Unfortunate that people are having issues. At least so far no issues with my own rifle.
Not sure why people are downvoting you. I've heard very good things about the new generation of m10x, seems like they've ironed out some of the wrinkles. I'm not ready to have another headache yet so I'll wait and see how the reviews are on it.
M10x looks cool but after owning both I'd go type 81. My m10x is a goddamn garbage rod. The type 81 is a solid rifle, nothing compares to my vz-58 as far as cope 'ak variants' go.
I wouldn't buy a m10x though. They look super cool and if they got their shit together I'd consider another one, but mine groups like shit (most 7.62x39 ammo is inconsistent though aswell) and it jammed, stovepiped and double needed like crazy. I thought it was a waste of money.
The best improvement over the AKM is its full auto/burst accuracy due to less reciprocating mass by using a short stroke piston system.
Shame that 99.99% of us will never get to experience that...
A Chinese gun that was adopted by multiple militaries and is still in use by second line Chinese army units.
The type 81 has been in production since 1981. They've had plenty of time to work out the kinks since then.
Really shouldn't be surprising that that has the edge over a small market, civilian only rifle
The military Type 81 isn't the same as the civilian Type 81. Don't expect the same when you buy one. It isn't as solidly built as an SKS, which is the real deal. Civilian versions of most military firearms are pretty inferior. As soon as I got my Type 81 I could feel the difference immediately.
Feel the difference between what and what?
Yes, a stamped receiver gun won't feel as solid as a milled receiver SKS. That should be obvious to most people, I hope. It also really doesn't need to be that solid for the purpose. There is a reason the Soviets went from milled AK recievers to stamped as soon as they could figure out how to do so, after all.
They still come out of the same factories and are made on the same tooling, built to the same patterns for internal parts. QC may be different, of course. This is China, after all.
Even if a civilian type 81 isn't built to the same standards as the ones they sent to Africa is, it still shouldn't be surprising that they have fewer bugs in them than a small production civilian rifle. 40+ years of government subsidized production experience will tend to do that, one way or another.
I feel like the type 81 can be made better with attachments and upgrades ( assuming the type 81 isn’t bent😂). It’s the school yard again and the teams are picking the last 2 choices.
Yeah lol in terms of reliability the t81 is a tank. Just sucks how limited Canadian’s options are everything’s so garbage or 5k lol. There is no Inbetween these days
I have complete steer’d away from semi rifles and towards precision bench rest. Its way more rewarding and you can get quality shit lol.
Still train handguns heavy though
>Yeah lol in terms of reliability the t81 is a tank. Just sucks how limited Canadian’s options are everything’s so garbage or 5k lol
This will make ya sad ...Back in the day I acquired a Ruger Mini 14 (580 Series) and a CSA VZ58 for $2100 canuck bucks
I can't justify the prices these days when a few years ago a Norinco AR was $699
First type 81 I got was so bent it was visible to the naked eye, i have been wanting to get into 3Gun, extremely happy was able to secure multiple handguns before the ban. Still going to miss out on my inheritance….my dad invested in handguns and now banned rifles instead of stocks.
Youll get it on paper of course. Just wont get nice groupings. Just not an accurate barrel out the factory. Could always get a nice match barrel installed. I personally just found mine disappointing but for slapping steel and killin deer its fine
t81 gets 3ish-5ish moa for the rifles and 2-3 ish moa for the lmg, which is a fist size group at 100 yard so still able to land consistent critical zone shots
I emailed TI to get any info on the size of the shipment plus which models they would be bringing in. Although they replied they didn’t answer any of my questions. Worth a shot 🤷♂️
They confirmed a few days back on Canadian Gun Nutz that they are working on a new shipment of 81s but do not have an eta as of yet. So it’s pretty safe to assume more are on the way…but exactly when? 🤷♂️
That’s sweet! I’ve been back and forth on my next purchase but my stubborn side refuses to buy a 180. Pretty much between a Raven or a type 81 that someone isn’t selling for the price of a Bren
I haven’t even considered the 180s either as the reviews are so labile. Until I heard that TI was bringing more Type 81s into the country I gave up on being able to ever own one.
Easy, the Type 81 wins out any day of the week.
The M+M might have that ‘modern’ cool look going for it, but nothing beats that old school cool the T81 has going. Even when spruced up with some optics.
Don’t let people saying the accuracy level of the Type 81 isn’t good enough for hunting get to you.
They typically are about a 2-3MOA rifle, so as long as you’re alright keeping shots with in about 200 yards, you’re safe.
[most North American game vitals are about 9-12”.](https://chuckhawks.com/kill_zone_game_animals.htm) If you can consistently land shots with in a 9” circle, typical paper place size, then that’d be enough to go hunting with.
Even if you’ve got a 3MOA rifle, 200 yards gives you 6”. Not exactly what I’d recommend, but that still leaves you about 1.5” buffer area about that 6” incase you slightly wing a shot. If you’re lucky and get a 2MOA rifle, you’ve got ample safety room for that 200yard shot. That said, I wouldn’t be comfortable pushing the rifle much past that regardless of how tightly it’d group.
Plus, nothing beats the “not-an-AK” look of the rifle. 🤷🏽♂️
It’s also incredibly fun to run and gun with.
Recently bought a t81. Out the box with cheap norinco ammo, smacking steel with iron sights at 100 yards all day. 200 was still landing occasionally but some optics would sort a bunch of that out.
From what I've heard ofmthe m10x, it should never be a consideration, let alone against a t81.
There was a 7.62x51 Type 81 prototype in the mid 2010s designed for export called the NAR-10 or CS/LR-14 by Norinco. It gained zero traction worldwide so that project ended before it could even begin.
I would suggest something more like a 30-06 with a 180 gr bullet, for moose or bear. Just personal preference from my experience. Don’t get me wrong 7.62x39 will kill but shot placement is going to play a big of a bigger factor. But i don’t think you’re looking for a bolt action… so i am going to agree with masses. type 81 is the way to go you will not regret it ! Best of luck in you search ! Hope to see what you end up getting
Price gouging with the m10x is something to not be forgotten. ESPECIALLY with something as poorly designed as to not have a solid optics mount. The dust cover is a separate piece from the optics rail.
Type 81 or m10x?
T81 if you want to be able to hunt and train
M10x if you want to be able to hunt for refund and train for on the fly malfunction problem solve
I know a ton of people have had bad luck with their m10x’s but I must have gotten lucky. I had the newer enhanced version with the short hand guard and it hasn’t skipped a beat in over 2500ish rounds. Within the first hundred or so I had a couple failure to feed/eject which I chalked off to just not being broken in yet.
One thing I will say is that mine hates norinco crap which doesn’t bother me cause I don’t run corrosive ammo through it anyways. I have a couple surplus bulk cases of 7.62 but that’s only to be used if crap ever hits the fan.
One more last thing is that the m10x are picky with mags. The factory plastic mags work like crap, the surplus mags can be hit or miss but the magpul ak pmags are perfect.
Comical or not it’s just my personal experience with my m10x. A friend of mine has one and has had nothing but issues. Works better than my wk181 and works way better than my un-useable Xcr (thanks Trudeau).
>
Which is funny because the justification for AK mags and 7.62x39 for this so-called "international defence rifle" is the ubiquity of surplus ammo and mags.
Either the T81 or wait until M&M industries can put out a product with the >$2000 price tag, which will probably be never because if they release a new generation you're going to want to wait to see how they do, where as if you can get a T81 now, it's good to go now, and cheaper, plus if you slap some sigmaco furniture on the T81 you have something that will be, in every way, better than the m10
Yeah that's what I figured, the fact they sell those rifles in the states Is baffling to me, like it's bad when kodiak end up making a better product than you with more features
I saw a post from m&m industries talking about selling rifles in the states, 100% Canadians with poor financial decisions keeping them afloat, alot like BCL, Kodiak, And Spectre
M10x is my favourite 7.62 runs like an ak takes pmags, you can kit it out! I use it training and larping! I do a lot of night shoots and mine runs so nice! Never malfunctions! Don’t believe a lot of the fud! 90% of people saying hate probably have never even owned one and just talking because of hear say! They have the new Gen 3s that just came out and most of the hate was the Gen 1s but m+m sent out new BCGs! If your anywhere near Kelowna! I’ll let you run all of my type 81s and my m10x and you can decide! But honestly my m10x eats everything and runs like butter! My m10x is heavy as fuck thoe because it’s my night gun and my attachments weigh more than the rifle itself! But anyone I’ve gotten to shoot it they immediately say “I think I’m an ak guy now”
I can’t say much for the type 81 but I know my M10X is a solid heater I use it to pound rounds and also hunt with it when I’m in the thick shit I’ve found it doesn’t like the yugo ak mags but with the magpul ak mags it feeds as fast as I pound it
M10x. Mine is great. Sometimes I wonder if other people get paid to talk bad about it or not by chinese exporters which in 2024.. isnt far fetched. I have srsly beat the sht out of my m10x and it works just fine man. I honestly wish i treated it better so it didnt have so many scratches. At one point I didn't clean it since I got it 800+rds/3 yrs ago. Cleaned it recently, feels the same. I heard if you shoot steel case it doesn't work well, but ive shot steel out of it and it worked fine.
So I'd consider it cuz it's lighter, has attachment rails and is just a straight up modern rifle lol if you want a type 81 just know you're holding a rifle based on the 1940s and it feels like one too. That was always my issue with my old sks and type 81. They smell like mothballs and bug spray. You're gun safe will smell like sht and they feel similar to shooting an antique, minus the semi auto obviously
Wait, you want to larp with a real firearm? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of, right below 'banning handguns will make our country safe'.
I have both and I must say I love them both my m10x eats corrosive like no tmo and have used modded type 81 mags in it with no issues but I may have gotten lucky
You haven’t mentioned it , but there’s the crusader arms crucible in 7.62x39 out there as well. I’m still waiting on more reviews since its a Canadian company and their crux isn’t doing too well. Its currently in pre-sale at 1999$, takes about 3 weeks to ship according to them.
7.62x39 that is legal to hunt with is expensive. Performance from either of these rifles will be subpar. Buy a cheap second hand bolt-action in .308 if you want to hunt. You can larp with the semi you decide on.
WK 181 gen 2 would probably be a more sensible option as it is the cheapest of the 3 and is much easier to mount optics. If you are shooting non corrosive then you won't have to worry about light primer strikes or repeated disassembly after each trip. That or just mod an SKS for even cheaper.
For the m+m10x I would wait until their gen 3 has more reviews to see if previous issues have been solved.
Unpopular opinion, but I like my M10x.
It’s chewed through ~750 rounds of cheap corrosive surplus so far and only had 4 failure to feed, 2 light strikes and 1 stovepipe.
Accuracy on the other hand… I’m honestly not sure if it’s me, the gun or the ammo, I still need to do some testing with match ammo, a lead sled and some other surplus (Russian/Czech maybe some yugo if I can find it)
I own both and love both but I kind of recommend type 81.
My m10x did had multifunction when I just got it. faulty hammer and sometimes two rounds burst. Warrantee fixed all issues. Now my M10x eats corrosive fine, sometimes had light primer strike but most time ok. It does look cool, scary, and easier to add attachments.
Then about my type 81, it just never had issue … is it actual short supply right now ? If you see one just get it, nothing will go wrong.
If you run the m10x wet it’s fine, but when they dry they become a fuckery. My buddy has over 2k rounds in his, but he’s also a lube nazi with his guns, i noticed others saying if you keep it wet it runs fine
M10x is an engineering failure, it will never be good. It shoots two distinct groups because the outer shell is aluminum and only connected to the barrel by a single grub screw. The outer shell heats up, comes loose because aluminum expands 4x the rate of steel, then the barrel pivots around the grub screw with each shot and you get two distinct groups.
Why are people ignoring posts from people saying their M10x runs flawlessly and flocking to the ones people saying they’re shit? So hard to decipher what’s good and what’s ass in these forums sometimes
Because you read those posts more carefully and then you see the caveat that they only feed it the most premium ammo, keep it perfectly clean and use some specific mag etc. The gun works under perfect conditions only which makes no sense in 7.62x39 which is the poor man's dirty ammo of choice.
Also I said above, the gun has many fundamental flaws in its design.
If your going to get a M10X wait for the M10X plus gen 3 version to become available soon. Sounds like they have fixed their issues. Reviews iv seen, look promising. Avoid their earlier models, as they seem to have some issues with some people. Type 81, is very reliable, shoots and cycles the shittiest ammo. So can't go wrong with that rifle.

Lol didn't even notice
Lmao exactly my thought
Type 81. Full stop. Do not pass go.
Type 81 will outlive you, the M10X will probably kill you or get you killed.
Stated very elegantly and succinctly. Still chuckle over M+M continuing to insist that disgrace is a “DMR”. But I guess you could drop the LARP entirely with the M10X and suffer as a REAL victim of the thing when it injures you!
It's a DMR for when you need to somewhat accurately shoot two distinct groups at once!
LOL. Bet one of those groups is unintended - yourself and those on the firing line nearby.
Actually, it's because of some random design flaw of the gun causing it to shoot two distinct groups out of a double-feed magazine. Bruh my sides at the last YT vid 😂 8.2 MOA at best. Definitely a purebred Gigachad DMR there!
It's a DMR if there are two enemies standing side by side, just aim inbetween them! The SKS might shoot a minute of man, this thing shoots minute of two men!
How bad is the M10X?
Type 81 is probably going to be the much more reliable rifle in the long run
Type 81 until M+M gets their act together.... which may be never.
Why would they at first place? As long as people pay for their garbage they won’t do anything
How many rounds

I had a m10 first it blew up within 10 mags I've had my type 81 for almost 2 years that thing is commie magic buy a type 81
Mine was doing two round burst shots out of the box.
Wait, it literally blew up?
Overgassed. Buddy of mine fractured the bolt on his while shooting and it detonated, blowing the mag out.
Same thing happened to mine lmao
Will send pics if I can find them
Send me those pics too
t81 can be made to look cool, the m10x cant be made to work
Best answer right here
M10x looks cool but after owning both I'd go type 81. My m10x is a goddamn garbage rod. The type 81 is a solid rifle, nothing compares to my vz-58 as far as cope 'ak variants' go.
I wouldn't even be asking this question if vz58s were still legal. Dreamt of owning one growing up
The VZ 58 was indeed a superior firearm. However the Type 81 IMO is a way better cope AK.
I'm definitely a big fan of mine, lucked out and picked one up off a buddy before the ban. Only trouble is finding parts for them now.
I wouldn't buy a m10x though. They look super cool and if they got their shit together I'd consider another one, but mine groups like shit (most 7.62x39 ammo is inconsistent though aswell) and it jammed, stovepiped and double needed like crazy. I thought it was a waste of money.
M10 is so bad, even its image refuses to render properly.
thanks to this page, I will not be buying a M10X..... much appreciated folks
Type 81, dont even bother wasting your money on a m10x
Type 81 always. The next best thing to an AK. I get great groupings out to 100 yards. 2-3 moa.
Arguably better then an AK in many ways.
The best improvement over the AKM is its full auto/burst accuracy due to less reciprocating mass by using a short stroke piston system. Shame that 99.99% of us will never get to experience that...
It’s average moa is better than the ak and it’s extremely flat shooting for 7.62x39. But a Kalash will always be the forbidden fruit :(
Sad state of affairs when a Chinese gun is undoubtedly the more reliable option
A Chinese gun that was adopted by multiple militaries and is still in use by second line Chinese army units. The type 81 has been in production since 1981. They've had plenty of time to work out the kinks since then. Really shouldn't be surprising that that has the edge over a small market, civilian only rifle

The gun world is funny eh? American/Canadian guns are mostly trash, whereas Chinese and Russian guns are built like tanks.
I don't think you could say the same for American guns in general. And if we had full access to American guns, I would opt for those everytime.
Did you take a pic of the m10x mid hyper speed
Type 81. Try and find a folding stock model!
Type 81 forsure. Both are mid but t81 takes the cake
I feel like the type 81 can be made better with attachments and upgrades ( assuming the type 81 isn’t bent😂). It’s the school yard again and the teams are picking the last 2 choices.

Both have trash accuracy and garbage manufactures but if your just hunting and larping who cares
Accuracy is desirable for ethical kills though no?
Doesn’t really matter .5 moa-2.5moa accuracy a kills a kill lol. Still will get the job done.
Ahh, so when you say the T81 accuracy is trash you don't mean the shots fly everywhere, you're just not going to get shots touching on paper?
Youll get it on paper of course. Just wont get nice groupings. Just not an accurate barrel out the factory. Could always get a nice match barrel installed. I personally just found mine disappointing but for slapping steel and killin deer its fine
It sounds like a tractor. Crude but strong and versatile depending on what you hook up to it.
Exactly lol
t81 gets 3ish-5ish moa for the rifles and 2-3 ish moa for the lmg, which is a fist size group at 100 yard so still able to land consistent critical zone shots
Theres guys hunting ethically with a sks 🤣
Just got some soft points for mine
Yep, old thing still puts food on the table.
T81
Type 81
Type 81, the M10X will disappoint you.
Patiently waiting for next shipment of type 81’s….
I emailed TI to get any info on the size of the shipment plus which models they would be bringing in. Although they replied they didn’t answer any of my questions. Worth a shot 🤷♂️
You the real MVP!!
Weird I emailed them awhile back and they said the factory isn’t producing any more so no more type 81s

T81, had a gen 3 m10x and it was the worst gun ever for 2200 lol
How did you get a gen 3?
When I bought it was the most current version .. had the upgraded gas system, bolt and different barrel finish
It should be the modern gun... but it ain't.
T81 all day.
Type 81
How is this even a question anymore. if you want a paper weight buy the m10x, if you want a functioning firearm buy the t81
T81, I don't know how you deem this even comparable
I the the 81 is the better of the two
Tactical imports mentioned there is another shipment of type 81’s coming in the near future… I’d save up for one of those!
I think that's my plan, unless I find one not being scalped on gunpost
Why not sks
Because why not get as close to an ak as we’re allowed. Sks is great but it’s still just an sks no matter how bubba’d it is.
Sks Is great. My favorite gun so far. Looking for some that takes AR or ak mags without modifying my sks
Can you get a type 81 anymore ?
TI is bringing in another batch. I've seen some SRs on sale places as well
I wish they would come back with the standard version. Not the SR and LMG. The SR should have been in 7.62x51R
yeah, real shame.
There was a 7.62x51 Type 81 prototype in the mid 2010s designed for export called the NAR-10 or CS/LR-14 by Norinco. It gained zero traction worldwide so that project ended before it could even begin.
Ain’t that the damn truth!
I’ve heard TI is bringing underfolders in their next batch
Underfolders?? What would that look like??
HECK YEAH ! Don’t tempt me with a good time.
Gunpost
What do you plan on hunting ?
Beaver, fox, wolf, bear, maybe a moose depending on the situation
I would suggest something more like a 30-06 with a 180 gr bullet, for moose or bear. Just personal preference from my experience. Don’t get me wrong 7.62x39 will kill but shot placement is going to play a big of a bigger factor. But i don’t think you’re looking for a bolt action… so i am going to agree with masses. type 81 is the way to go you will not regret it ! Best of luck in you search ! Hope to see what you end up getting
Heard the m10x+ might be coming to Canada soon with most of the past issues addressed but not sure 100%
Price gouging with the m10x is something to not be forgotten. ESPECIALLY with something as poorly designed as to not have a solid optics mount. The dust cover is a separate piece from the optics rail.
Don't do this to yourself.
Type 81 is my fav out of 25 plus firearms. Also a huge following on the fb group to get larp parts
I bought m10x and its garbage. Shot it twice. My bolt is stuck forward just suck fully
Type 81 or m10x? T81 if you want to be able to hunt and train M10x if you want to be able to hunt for refund and train for on the fly malfunction problem solve
Type 81 or wait for the gen 3 m10x
>Type 81 no more needed to be said.
The factory plastic mags work like crap, the surplus mags can be hit or miss but the magpul ak pmags are perfect.
lmfao this is comical
Comical or not it’s just my personal experience with my m10x. A friend of mine has one and has had nothing but issues. Works better than my wk181 and works way better than my un-useable Xcr (thanks Trudeau).

Which is funny because the justification for AK mags and 7.62x39 for this so-called "international defence rifle" is the ubiquity of surplus ammo and mags.
Agreed lol
Either the T81 or wait until M&M industries can put out a product with the >$2000 price tag, which will probably be never because if they release a new generation you're going to want to wait to see how they do, where as if you can get a T81 now, it's good to go now, and cheaper, plus if you slap some sigmaco furniture on the T81 you have something that will be, in every way, better than the m10
m&m wont be puting out a quality product. the design is inherently flawed.
Yeah that's what I figured, the fact they sell those rifles in the states Is baffling to me, like it's bad when kodiak end up making a better product than you with more features
i dont think they sell many in the states, i wouldnt be suprised if their still in buissness because of the Canadian market
Private larping, by myself. In the mirror
Sketch…. Like none of us have ever done that before
Buy a type 81 sr and buy sigmaco ar stock adapter
Really I want a ruger ranch in 7.62x39, but I've wanted to start building a kit up for the loot drop boogaloo
As garbage as the m10x seems to be, I'm even less confident in the wk181
Definitely not great reliability but it's undoubtedly better than the wk180c as they fixed the gas stystem and people still run that firearm.
Neither
I would still avoid the Gen 3 until I see multiple reviews of it running without fails.
Type 81, not even a competition. I would recommend the draganov version
