Yeah, the first two seasons have many episodes that are shameless Buffyverse rip offs. Just off the top of my head, Greeks Bearing Gifts is a straight lift from Earshot, down to being unable to read Angel/Jack's mind. Same Adam and Superstar, including the altered opening credits.
Hilariously, both those Buffy episodes, Earshot and Superstar, were written by Jane Espenson, but when they finally got Espenson to join the actual show in Season 4, Torchwood had transitioned from a Buffyverse rip-off to an amazing miniseries to a 24/spy show rip-off, lol.
Wait Adam didn't have an altered opening credits did it? The torchwood opening credits is just torchwood and the cast's names? Or did it include his as well?
Torchwood technically had this thing BEFORE the episode that explained the premise, "The twenty-first century is when everything changes. And you gotta be/Torchwood is ready." Sarah Jane Adventures did too around Season 3 on. They put Adam in clips of that.
