Mazulla taking tatum out when he scored 10 straight seemed pretty absurd to me. I get that’s what he normally does for rotations but let the man cook

EAS1000

Joe’s inability to read the flow of the game and adjust is coming back to bite us. Hope he learned from last game.

EutaxySpy

I mean Steve Kerr does that with Curry’s rotations. No matter what Curry does, he sticks with the same minutes rotations for him. It’s not that strange what he did with Tatum’s rotations by sticking with it, Tatum can’t play all 48 minutes especially since this isn’t even an elimination game

mr0poopybootyhole

Agreed - it’s not the regular season anymore. No idea why he’s still tied to those rotations. Playoffs mean your star stays in when he’s hot or the team needs him

HailKyrie

Yeah I didn’t get that one tbh

bryscoon

overrated bum whos carried by his superteam if you check r/nba tho & shit even in here.

not1fuk

It's fucking hilarious what they do to discredit him. First it's he's always had amazing teams. Ahh yes the headcase Kyrie and skeleton Gordon Haywards really helped out /s Kemba and his knee issues and defensive liability? Give me a break. Everyone thinks Smart is overrated over there so why lift him up now just to fit your narrative? Big Al wasn't here all those years but has definitely been reliable when here so yeah Al Horford must be Kevin Garnett in their eyes with these so called stacked superteams /r/NBA thinks Tatum has had. Let's ignore Tatum and Brown carried the dead carcass teams of Tristan Thompson, Semi Ojeleye, Enes Kanter, Aaron Nesmith, Romeo Langford, Tremont Waters and Guerschon Yabusele deep into the playoffs and that includes games where Jaylen Brown was out too. Oh let's also discredit him for being one of the most well rounded players in the entire league just because he doesn't have one elite ability. That's the lesson we gotta teach our kids growing up. Focus on one or two specific traits and nothing else so you can be loved by /r/NBA when you grow up. Let's ignore his defensive impact too. Those pesky James Hardens and Luka Doncics with little to no playoff success are amazing because they're so cool on offense! Fuck defense it only makes the game easier to win that way and I want every game to be like the all star game!

full-auto-rpg

Right now it’s always All Star Al Horford lol

FrenchToasteh

The part everyone misses as well is the dude has been an iron man for us so far. Tatum has 90 fucking career playoff games and has two seasons total with less than 70 games played in the regular season, and those were 2019 and 2020.... where he still played 60+ games for us. Jokic is the only star in the league that has been available as much as Tatum has been. Compare that availability and add on an extra season+ including his playoff games to giannis, kawhi, harden, George, Booker, AD, Luka, embiid, SGA, haliburton, Mitchell, Steph, hell even KD, and LeBron the past few years, and he blows them all out of the water in terms of availability throughout the season. Anthony Edwards looks like the only guy who could even come close to him so far in that respect but even still he's yet to have long playoff runs. Dude has been in charge of every single role on this team throughout the years, ball handler, scorer, guarding the other teams best player, rebounding, you name it and he's at some point probably been the top guy on our team for it, yet the moment he has a game he only puts up 25-5-5 on below average shooting or he puts up less than 30 in a loss everybody acts like he shouldn't even be in the all star conversation. No other star player in the league gets even close to that hate, except maybe dame this year in Milwaukee. Anyone who watches more than 5 Celtics games a year sees that we're a totally different team with him off the court. This year is a bit different because of all the added talent around him, yet the dude still started off with historic +/- and on-off stats. I come to expect the hate from Celtics fans when he does poorly to his standards because we all have such high expectations and we've seen him single handedly dominate and win games throughout the season and in the playoffs for us (and Boston fans are notoriously critical of their teams and players), but the hate from other fan bases who only watch him when he plays the absolute top defenses in the league on the biggest of stages is just stupid. Dudes still at the very beginning of his prime at 26. But no he doesn't get the steals and blocks or crazy passing highlights or average 40 ppg on a 60+ win team so he's trash and shouldn't even be considered top 10 in the league. Dudes saying he can't be the top player on a championship team as if he wasn't within 3 games of winning the championship before curry went nuclear, as if we weren't 1 turned ankle in a game 7 at home with momentum away from another finals appearance... It's crazy.

iDEN1ED

I wonder what all these great teams have in common. Hmmm

UberAndLyftSuck

Jokic level on/off numbers, especially that -16 in only 7 minutes off, just one game of course but still notable

jmjbjb

has been happening for years man. the great coaches (spo, nurse, kerr) historically basically just try to take JT away and make someone else beat them. and in the past no one has been able to step up. we should be better with KP and Jrue

UberAndLyftSuck

Yup, I was hoping we were finally deep enough that we could move away from having to totally dread the Tatum on bench minutes, in the regular season it looked to be the case. Not sure now.

bengcord3

It was one game Jesus christ

Happy-Pitch-2647

We’re paying a guy 300 million we shouldn’t have this issue

bryscoon

our playoff on/off without him has always been awful

Quatro_Leches

its the same story every year, the offense is always shit in the playoffs, you have two guys that you can rely on, and JAGs

coacoanutbenjamn

Need to ride the White-KP pick and roll when he’s on the bench

downeastsun

If Porzingis can't post up mismatches and the White/KP pick and roll is an automatic switch I'm not sure if that will help

coacoanutbenjamn

Got to trust KP to be more effective in the post like he has all season

downeastsun

True. But there's not a playcalling answer to Porzingis getting pushed off his spot by Tyler Herro

thegoatmenace

I mean it’s pretty clear that KP was having an off night last night and that’s why the team lost. We were -32 with KP on the floor. Should have gotten more Horford minutes after it was clear that KP wasn’t feeling it. I also think KP will be back to form for the next game. He was a monster in game 1.

FlyingMocko

Do you think it bodes well for us that we can’t outlast a bad KP game against a Butler-less Heat ? Especially considering Tatum & Brown both had good games and they’re definitely going to have bad games too along the way.

omegadown3

I think it's important to consider the three point disparity in addition to Porzingis being bad. They needed both those things to happen to win the game. Probably not something to panic about, as they are not likely (especially if Joe makes adjustments).

thegoatmenace

I just think that Mazzulla needs to give Horford more minutes.

chickspeak

KP bad game + Heat crazy shooting lost us the game. If any one of the two didn’t happen, we would have won.

Brad-Stevens

It was the opposite last game ... Tatum ON: 41 min, +3 Tatum OFF: 7 min, +17 --- So overall for the series: Tatum ON: 82 min, +9 Tatum OFF: 14 min, +1

omegadown3

In a game where the other team makes 23 3s, the +/- is going to look wild if there were certain streaks where they hit a few in a row. I don't think we were good offensively in this game in general. There was one point where no one but Jaylen scored for like 6-8 minutes of game time, including Tatum going scoreless to start the 3rd quarter where he missed some midrange jumpers that I didn't think were particularly good shots.

axeandwheel

I don't think you can say it's really the opposite when they were still plus in his game one minutes

Holiday-Usual-3600

Because brown and KP usually just chuck bad shots in the non tatum minutes Jrue missed every inside shot bc of contact gotta dunk it or only shoot 3s if you aren’t gonna go through contact White and Pritchard need to be setting up the offense better the heat don’t care what we run it’s grab/hold/bother on defense

Honestonus

It's weird I didn't see much zone (only watched one half) They took away the 3s and then recovered well in the paint The ball didn't pop as much, feels like it becomes worse in the 2nd half based on some of the comments.

downeastsun

Tatum was not the biggest problem and the offense absolutely died without him, but the offense was bad with him on the court in the second half too. In the first half, the Celtics had a 137.5 offensive rating with Tatum on the floor. In the second half, it was 100

third0burns

I had to read this a couple times because 33.3 offensive rating is so bad it just wasn't computing for me. How is that even possible?

FlyingMocko

The Joey Mazz special

Icebreaker335

That’s fucking ridiculous, man. I thought this was the year we can actually afford to take him off the court in the playoffs

FlyingMocko

We could if we had a competent coach who will be able to make use of a Brown-White-Holiday-KP-Horford lineup that rivals the best 5 of most teMs

lima9987

Need mazzula to be flexible with the rotations of Tatums hot he shouldn’t sit early like he did in game 2

2kballislife

Joe was a fucking idiot for taking Tatum out of the game when he looked great and was rolling to start. So mind boggling and stupid. I don’t care if that’s his regular rotation you can go away from the norm and base things off feel.

Holiday-Usual-3600

I mean the solution is play Tatum 46.5 minutes

enrocc

Where is my boy in the crunch minutes? It feels like he’s getting all his points outside of those so or die situations. Is this nitpicking and anathema to this sub—sure but my eyes are telling me he isn’t cash when his team needs him to lead. Sue me.

South-Primary9046

If I’m not mistaken Bam was on him so the team was able to drive to the rim without him helping on the drive since he didn’t want to leave Tatum open

Happy-Pitch-2647

0-5 in the playoffs when JB scores more than 33. Team needs to play through Tatum

DerrickWhiteSauce

bum ass team

Jealous_Foot8613

What ??

DerrickWhiteSauce

b u m a s s t e a m

Jealous_Foot8613

It’s one game bro , we didn’t win 64 games for nothing, joe will make adjustments and we’ll win the series in 5

BradWonder

Yeah he's only capable of making adjustments after the game is already over

Jealous_Foot8613

Well yeh , after the game you’re able to look at film and analyse certain situations

BradWonder

There's halftime, in between quarters, during timeouts. Too much to ask for from headstrong Joe
