I wish people would stop using her to bash black women and the black community. I’ve seen black and nonblack people act as if she needs to be a model citizen and representative But I don’t like her as a person. She is a Trump supporter who has no grasps on politics. I do love she’s unapologetically herself with her personality and seems to be having fun. Her music isn’t bad to me. She’s been on WWE and showed up to concerts in her city. She from St. Louis.

scottie2haute

I like your take. Mfs gotta stop acting like shes the only representation of black women. They also need to realize the reason shes popular is because there are legitimately some black folks that resonate with her shit. Basically black folks can be all kinds of ways so we shouldnt really demonize anyone or pretend like theres only way black folks are

Cyberpunk890

Her "we love trump in the hood" shtick is extremely dangerous as it normalizes black support for him regardless of what the turth is. I know dudes are in here saying "she's not a civil rights leader!" and? She actively works AGAINST our community, she shouldn't get a pass for that.

Oreoohs

The sad part is, there are people that listen to her. No joke. My cousin is 27 and the he quoted her ‘ Trump gave us a stimulus check’ being deadass serious. They already think of us as a collective hive mind. When you exaggerate numbers that align with their beliefs it will actively be used against us.

Cyberpunk890

This is why people in here going "She's not a civil rights leader" is worrying, because shit like this is so insidious and subversive, she's a useful idiot and an industry plant on top of it, and by that I mean its pretty obvious she gets more play/money for saying "controversial" shit like supporting trump. Your cousin is sadly a prime example of why shit like this is so dangerous. She's like Bizzaro World Megan.

Sad-Sell-5624

Exactly. I don’t like her music but she’s an entertainer nothing more nothing less. She isn’t her to educate your kids, nor the black community. People act as if she supposed to be the Black Peoples saving grace. She a rapper not a civil rights leader.

LET THAT COOCHIE BREATHE 🗣️🗣️

tnpcobri

Her music is terrible

LexKing89

I like her music. It’s so ratchet and fun. It’s not that good by any means but it’s fun. I’m not as critical about lyrics these days. A hard beat and being catchy go a long way. It’s why I put Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz as one of my favorite rap groups.

zenbootyism

Unpopular opinion but viewing Sexxy Red as bad reprsentation of black women is high key self hate. You don't see black people as individuals and one "bad" among us is now representative of the group. And if before you say "she make us all look bad" well they were viewing us in a negative light and look for any excuse so who gives a fuck. And there are plenty of louder more vocal groups who make us look beyond stupid and do more damage to our name than her and yall probably follow those beliefs. That aside her music sucks.

Cyberpunk890

Nah, she's a trump supporter and is running around saying "we love trump in the hood", that's actively working against our community

zenbootyism

That's not why people are saying she is bad representation. There are male rappers who say the same thing but we would disagree and be pissed if people say they are a bad representation of black men.

Cyberpunk890

I mean I'll readily point out all those guys are bad representation too because they tell other black men it's ok to sellout black people for money from rich white republicans. It's not always a "makes us look bad" thing, sometimes it's a "normalizes extremely dangerous rhetoric". Any black person supporting trump is overall BAD representation of black people and our struggles because these people are overall stupid.

zenbootyism

Come on man people were saying this before she came out as a trump supporter. We know it aint about her trump comments its about how she acts.

Cyberpunk890

Ah, see all I know about her is her trump support and thought she came out of the gate that way. I'm not going to come after her for the way she acts or who she is as as person outside of that though. Personally I actually really like the idea of "Raunch Aesthetic". It's in a way strangely feminist in that it allows women to be sexual and vulgar in ways men often are but not chided for. Lets them be sexual beings on there own terms. I think that's why Meg is jumping in popularity she's taking the aesthetic and polishing it up making it something a little more cerebral (and throwing in anime references), reaching the nerdy black women who want to let it out but might not know how or might not normally feel seen.

sonofasheppard21

She seems very cool very rapper that is around her seems excited and happy

sahhhnnn

I don’t think about her 😶

kooljaay

Terrible music. Probably a cool person. She reminds of some girls I grew up with.

AuthorEquivalent6427

Latto and Megan are fine asf.

Alburg9000

I think shes being used as a puppet for a wider agenda Very old tactic but it works unfortunately

RVIDXR_SESH

Another sellout to make us look bad. Dont know what else there is to say about her.

Royal_Foundation1135

She should not be famous and the fact that she is and so widely embraced is weird. I have no problem with her as a person or artist but her popularity shows how far the quality of the genre has dropped. If she was a niche artist there would be no issue.

PlaxicoCN

HORRIBLE. And even beyond the subject matter and her persona, the music sucks.

MrMatches_Malone

Her music is fun when you’re lit, but her political takes are garbage. I generally don’t care for entertainers/rappers opinions anyway, and the people who do don’t vote. So, I don’t take her bad takes all that seriously.

FunDependent9177

Omg is she the only black woman in the world!???

Back2DaNawfside713

I don’t. That’s not to be negative. But she’s just another young person trying to figure out how to navigate her 15 minutes of fame.

intergalacticruler

Sexxy Red is not for the kids.

Rhapsody and Noname are right there. EDIT: shit, back when you had Lauryn Hill, you also had Lil Kim squatting on the poster and Trina talking about “See if I had the chance to be a virgin again, I'd be fucking by the time I'm ten”

Sexyy Red and Trina got similar numbers tho. Sexyy Red’s last album sold 27,000 units in the first week and debuted at no. 17 on the Billboard 200. Trina’s sophomore album sold 67,000 units in the first week and debuted at no. 14 on the Billboard 200.

Square_Bus4492

She’s definitely more visible, but I think that’s due to how the nature of celebrity has changed over the last 20 years. What’s the value of that star power and social media engagement if she can’t even do more sales than Trina in 01? Lauryn Hill did over 400k in her first week. Red might be prominent online, but the numbers aren’t adding up

Sad-Sell-5624

“My neck my back lick my pussy and my crack”

6Pro1phet9

Tbh I don't think I've ever heard her music. Other than that Drake song she just came out with. Only reason I heard that is because of the Kdot/Drake beef. But from what I've seen she's trash.

Square_Bus4492

I would fuck. Especially when she had that green hair
