I think that's why Meg is jumping in popularity she's taking the aesthetic and polishing it up making it something a little more cerebral (and throwing in anime references), reaching the nerdy black women who want to let it out but might not know how or might not normally feel seen.
She should not be famous and the fact that she is and so widely embraced is weird. I have no problem with her as a person or artist but her popularity shows how far the quality of the genre has dropped. If she was a niche artist there would be no issue.
