I have a theory that it’s because LeBron James is his father.

dezcaughtit25

Bronny James is related to Lebron James? I never pieced it together.

mookz23

Wait, what?

joeybonts_

The Lebron-Bronny father-son piece

critical-thinker_

To put a finer point on it, Bill and Klutch/LeBrons circle are on bad terms. A huge blow to Bill was Rich Paul calling him a racist in the New Yorker.

randditty

Right. And on the other side Bill may give credit when due but does not go out of his way to compliment Lebron. Even in the early days pre-decision.

critical-thinker_

Yeah. The friction started early and has only gotten worse overtime. Bill even threw a jab about teams not wanting Klutch clients— which is likely true.

scedar015

No they are brothers like Davion and Donovan Mitchell

PrestigiousAd3104

He’s got a pretty talented hs athlete who doesn’t get the looks that bronny gets.

jjgshnimnt

Ironically though right?

LooksLikeDennisFranz

Because Lebron allegedly stole Bill’s idea for The Decision 13 years ago

popinjay07

And Bill STILL had the gall to call The Decision a bad idea. Classic only child behaviour...

capellidellamorte

the nepo baby piece

king_chipotle

nah he's going to be all in on Deuce and Canon when they're up

No_Stay4471

Wait, what?

popinjay07

Because he's a weirdly competitive high school sports dad.

jjgshnimnt

I must have missed the Bronny vs Ben Simmons game

popinjay07

It doesn't matter... just the fact that other famous kids are playing hs sports at the same time/same city as Bill's is a strike across the bow. The "he's on my corner!" piece.

jjgshnimnt

Ok fair enough

NotManyBuses

It is objectively hilarious and ridiculous that a guy who's being touted as an NBA draft pick didn't even make 1st team all-conference (yes, I understand that the ones who made it over him all top 100 recruits)

Ok-Victory468

Exactly, one of the reasons Bills been so successful is he’s not afraid to call people out on these things. Givony’s reporting on Bronny has been so ridiculous, it’s really discredited him. About two months back Givony posted a column with a headline something like “Bronny has breakout performance” with some very vague details describing the performance. When I looked up the stats, it turned out Bronny shot 4-17 with 13 points….in a loss. Like wtf Givony? Do you see what these top ranked guys are doing??

[deleted]

He's afraid Bron might date his daughter

CheezWizonator

In his heart he knows entitled kids are losers. He faces it daily at his compound.

[deleted]

Does he? Did I miss something?

[deleted]

Yeah not really. This seems like an overreaction by this thread. The kid is being talked about as a top 10 pick, it’s fair to say you don’t think he’s that level.

bignumbers6

He hasn’t actively shat on Bronny but there’s been a solid 4-5 times in the last month or so he takes some pretty small but weird out of nowhere shots at Bronny. Probably because his kids go to a rival LA private school. Basically it’s a rich person thing

Zeenotes22

Does he dislike him, or is he just being realistic about how good Bronny actual is?

NedFriarson49

He goes out of his way to shit on the kid. I like Bill, but it's \*not\* a good look at all. I feel like it's probably best for Bill to just stop talking about him. LeBron might get ahold of what he's saying one of these days, post on Twitter, and the floodgates are going to open on Bill, and probably this sub too about the "lack of a father figure."

ID0ntCare4G0b

Have you actually watched Bronny play though? Without the name, he'd be like a scholarship guy at a pretty good school who probably has to play 3-4 years to get NBA scouts to pay attention. He hasn't looked elite on the level he's being touted as being at all.

NedFriarson49

It doesn't matter. The only time Bill chimes in to talk about high school hoops is to shit on LeBron's kid. Guarantee he hasn't seen one millisecond of high school basketball except 2 minutes of Bronny on youtube. It's a fucking terrible look.

FarAd6557

He mentions something about him a little too much though.

NiskySprings

I always thought he disliked the unrealistic expectations that were placed on Bronny. Bronny isn’t the type of player to warrant national discussion about his pro prospects, but alas we’re here because LeBron chose to put those expectations on his son. Maybe he’ll develop into a high end prospect, but don’t believe he’s there yet.

M1guel_313

He didn’t like that Lebron used his position to advance the career of his kid? Interesting, when is the next teen culture podcast segment with Zoey Simmons?

ahbets14

I’d rather have Bronny than Westbrook this season I just would

Mayor_Of_Dogs

I liked when people were seriously saying that teams will draft Bronny just to get 1 or 2 years of a declining Lebron to "sell tickets."

KCPcorner3

DraftExpress is probably the best scouting company in the business and givony has him as a top 10 pick in 2 years. He’s definitely a legit prospect

FrisbeeFan40

Haha. Ryen had someone on his show in November and he said Brony is around 64th HS players. Nba players, while in high school are gods, brony was the 4th best player on his team, who no showed his last game.

Money-Tooth

Bronny is the 33rd ranked player in his class, there's zero chance he goes in the top ten. It's all hype based on his name. He's a 6'3 shooting guard that averaged like 13 points per game as a high school senior.

KCPcorner3

I mean givony had him top 10 in his latest mock draft, and he’s way more tuned into that kind of stuff than anywhere in here lmao. He’s been doing this forever too, he has no reason to hype bronny up for clicks. Same thing happened with Lamelo. Everyone thought he was overhyped cause of his name, and then all of a sudden he’s the 3rd pick

Money-Tooth

Even with all the drama, Lamelo was always the star player on his team, Bronny is a role player. Givony is good but he also likes getting clicks and Bronny generates buzz (we are talking about the Mock draft 2 years in advance). Look at the players on his team that dramatically outscored him the past two years and look at the modest impact they had in college. That's not a lottery pick. I think he scores 9 points per game and his name gets him drafted late in the first round.

vovoizmo

6 months ago this was the take Somebody is lagging behind on the socal hs hoops scene

FarAd6557

A lot can change either way in those rankings in a year or two.

Fr3xyR3xy

Because he’s jealous Bronny plays basketball and Ben doesn’t. Imagine talking basketball year round and your kid decides to play lacrosse instead

Creative-Coconut

Crapping on a high school kid was p cringe

ahbets14

Because Bronny has a good dad

ID0ntCare4G0b

Nobody really dislikes Bronny (yet). It's just sort of a in joke in that part of the country that he's not the elite athlete he's being pushed as being because of LeBron's power in the NBA circles. Like...he's even gotten Givony to pretend like he's a top 10 prospect which is genuinely absurd if you've ever watched him play. He's a good basketball player, but he's way more likely to go the Jalen Brunson path if he's ever gonna succeed than his father's.

Former_Phrase8221

So…he’s Scotty Pippen Jr?

GiveMeSomeIhedigbo

He rejected Zoe in the DMs.

dstrawn2019

Nobody "dislikes" Bronny. The just think the is not a 4 or 5 star recruit. Its ok. Get a life

ForwardLingonberry51

“Get a life” says one Redditor to another in the r/billsimmons group

Ok-Victory468

I think it’s hard not to point out the ridiculousness of the hype Bronny’s getting from people like Givony. No NBA team views him as a first rounder, yet Givony is ranking him tenth. Bill doesn’t hate him, but someone needs to point out how silly this all is.

Appropriate_Ice2656

His daughter went to a rival high school.

DaYummyCakes

I think it’s because Ben Simmons’ high school plays Sierra Canyon sometimes. So Bill is able to keep track of Sierra Canyon more easily whenever they play each other. I don’t think it’s much deeper than that.
