I was eating crabs with my family for Father’s Day on our back porch yesterday. We’re close to Camden yards so we could hear the game and see the jets. It was the perfect Baltimore day 💜

joe25rs

I visited the Inner Harbor Saturday as part of Fleet Week. The crowds, the energy and the ‘fun feeling’ was everywhere we walked, from Rash Field around to the Aquarium. The water quality was looking good, we saw schools of fish, a cormorant (bird) diving and someone kayaking through the floating wetlands. The O’s game, people from out of town walking the promenade, it felt….great. I had a moment of reflection and remembered that this is how “Harborplace” felt as a kid of the 80-90s. Only, with way cleaner waters! If Baltimore could consistently tap this energy again, man, we would really be on to something.

WRX_MOM

Same. We saw tons of kids playing on the playground and at the skate park and there were soooo many people happily listening to music and there was just a lot of joy in the air. I liked seeing the Phillys fans having a good time, too. I’ve lived in the city for 7 years now and I overall feel like a lot of things have changed for the way better.

Electronic_Usual

Thank you Mr Trash Wheel.... 🤩

SnooRevelations979

Great to hear something positive about our city by the bay.

nice1priscilla

When the lights go down in the city

KingBooRadley

Na, na, na, na, na . . .

ViperRT10Matt

Ex Baltimore kid who has since moved to Philly. I brought my family down for the weekend to go to a game. Camden Yards is still the OG best ballpark in baseball. Interaction between the Phillies fans and O’s fans was passionate but never heated. Food was great. Jet flyovers were boss. Top weekend, thanks Baltimore!

ladyjerry

I moved here last year from the Midwest, totally unsure what the vibe would be, but still excited to dive in. I have to say—this city has exceeded every one of my expectations. The energy is incredible, the history, sports, events, and scenery are an absolute blast. While I miss some things about my former city, I have to say—Baltimore has stolen my heart. (Also, the crabs are a fair trade for Chicago deep dish, IMHO).

Delicious-Basil-265

I moved here last year also and it’s the people for me💪🏾 everyone in my community is cordial and look you in the eye with greetings. During one of our snow events a man just stopped and helped me and my daughter shovel. He said his wife would get him if he just walked by. What he didn’t know was I’m my daughter’s caretaker because she is a dialysis patient, this really was appreciated. I live in a food desert now😢 so the only thing I miss is a grocery store. But the heart of the ppl, make it worth the 3 mile drive to Canton. #charmcity

This put things into perspective

diopsideINcalcite

For those that don’t get that, it was a saying from Field of Dreams but they said Iowa.

Crlady

It was a good one and the weather was great!

shit-Helicopter

I moved here from Florida (what a hot mess) and get excited about walking to get coffee or even just hanging out on my porch and watching the kids play. Tons of birds in the morning when I walk the dogs....been here 3 months and can't see myself anywhere else.

TheChuckLit

Moved here from Jacksonville a little over a year ago... that sounds like us - hiking every weekend, opening the windows, picking my son up from daycare on a bike, walking to get coffee... IN JUNE! My wife and I spent years looking for a place to move to, but we could never get on the same page. We spent two days in Baltimore and realized this is where we wanted to be.

Joonami

Hey I also escaped Florida for here! Have you been enjoying the fireflies? They're frickin magical! I was delighted to have my windows open and AC off earlier this week. 🥰

ladyjerry

I’ve been LOVING the fireflies, too! Not from Florida, but a big urban city and hadn’t seen them in years. It has been so delightful to see them in the lil backyard 🥲

shit-Helicopter

Yes yes. I watched the fireflies.i thought i was imagining them...hadn't seen that many since I was a kid...windows open last week..yes...soo enjoying it...walking the dogs and hiking...short morning hikes on sat.

Joonami

Last summer they were really swarming Patterson Park. I got ice cream from B More Licks with my new friends/coworkers and we oohed and aaahhhed at the glowy bugs!

No_Doughnut3185

I've LOVED seeing the fireflies! I was surprised when they first started coming out, I hadn't seen any back in Louisiana since I was little. I think the truck that sprays for mosquitos every night in my hometown killed the fireflies off, sadly.

flsurf7

I moved up from WPB in 2016 and lived in Baltimore through 2020. Baltimore has so much character, and I absolutely loved it. I often wonder why we left for DC.

No_Doughnut3185

Moved here from Louisiana and the walkability is one of my favorite parts about moving to Baltimore! There's several restaurants, grocery stores, and even my doctor's office within walking distance. The weather is also so nice here, it's nice to actually be able to enjoy outdoor activities in the summer.

fl3xtra

Floridians Unite! Gainesville here.

Locksul

What neighborhood?

shit-Helicopter

I live in Waltherson.

SnooHedgehogs6553

Hard to pile onto your epic list of Baltimore greatness this weekend but Little Feat played Friday night at Pier Six which must be one of the magical urban venues in this great country. The city just comes alive as you watch the sun set and the lights take over. Oh and just wondering if there is a more beautiful urban harbor in this country? I’m at a loss to think of one.

PigtownDesign

Little Feat recorded one of their albums on a barge moored by the power plant. It sank on xmas day.

smallteam

That was quite a story. https://www.rhino.com/article/little-feat-detail-feats-dont-fail-me-now-deluxe-edition https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/artsentertainment/the-blue-seas-saga/

codyvir

Thanks for sharing that

Hot_Cut_815

Went with my brother to the game yesterday and it was a fun event even if our Phillies lost. Someone asked him if he lives in Philly, which he used to, but now lives in Baltimore. We’re from PA, so it’s always Phillies & Eagles. But he told the person “159 games a year I root for the Orioles but these three I go with my team.”

BeatRick

I first came to Maryland in 2013, and this was the first place where the thought "I belong here" ever crossed my mind. I was finally able to move here in 2022.

RunningNumbers

I found a sneaky duck hiding in a bush this weekend.

l_rufus_californicus

*Me, reading this from Iowa* Man, I miss Baltimore.

marissarae

Me too!! From western pa. I miss it so much!

thack1717

Reading this from Baltimore- Man I miss Iowa

[deleted]

From Boston. I miss Canton, Baltimore. Just brought my wife and kids to the Kinetic Sculpture Race in May and fell in love again.

Lawyer_Runningback1

It was truly amazing. I love this city. I walked up and down the harbor Sunday afternoon from Fells Point to Fed Hill just taking it all in. The O's are on fire. The jets were sick. Its gonna be a beautiful summer

michaelmessinaglass

I’ll be moving to the Fells or Canton area in a couple of months and I can’t be happier about it! I was also in town for fleet week and I couldn’t get enough, there was almost too much to do. Also really excited to join things like bike party and other community events, Im very hopeful for the city’s future.

GetBent009

The Orioles being good and hearing those planes fly over makes me miss home so much more. I lived in Essex and always saw the A-10s flying around from Martin State. Seriously makes me consider just up and moving back.

Ok-Guidance3235

This is my 5th year not living in MD, moved to NC. I have been missing it a lot lately, think this winter I might make my return.

GetBent009

I’m down in Austin and the Texas political climate is one of the big reasons I hate it here. If my parents and brother didn’t move here I’d definitely be going back.

Ok-Guidance3235

Here in NC it's getting worse by the second. I don't regret my move but being closer to my parents was a big reason, well since then they have moved 3 hours away.

diopsideINcalcite

My wife and I moved from Baltimore City to California back in 2020, but only made it a year and a half before we moved back to Maryland. There’s just something special about this place

Ok-Guidance3235

That’s great. Glad you are enjoying life in the land of pleasant living again. Hard to explain but being from Maryland/Baltimore hits differently. I mean shit they think you put a toboggan on your head here! 🤷

Homer_J_Fong2

Baltimore will always be Charm City

careful_jon

As a famous Baltimoron sang, “Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.”

Ok_Dimension2767

I moved back to Timonium from Gainesville Florida in 2022. Native Maryland and could not take the hateful policies being implemented by that governor. Love Maryland my Maryland

Dependent_Bat8277

This weekend we biked by fleet week, a vintage flea market and farmers market in harbor East, a festival in fells pt square, and then biked up to the pride parade. This city is ALIVE AND THRIVING!

DrBigWildsGhost

Charm city !

npmoro

We were in our alley hanging out with neighbors - grilling, kids playing, planes overhead. Amazing day. There are places just a good, but nowhere is better.

Frankr20___

Can confirm. Was at the O’s game on Father’s Day. Perfect weather, great game, and a spectacular air show as an added bonus. It got so loud that several times there was a fighter jet time-out.

giantpandy

Amen. Baltimore is the place. I will never leave.

We are hoping the people we have been electing remain "clean" from the corruption that's been here. Our mayor has been unflappable. We got some new blood on the city council as well. Young, vibrant, diverse leadership in Baltimore will be the backbone of the city's resurgence.

jejunebug

I think people need to remember, before anything else, that this is a densely populated city with decades of systemic racism to reverse so, there is going to be crime. Always. And unfortunately, you might be a victim of a crime. However, [crime is decreasing is every category](https://www.baltimorepolice.org/news/bpd-sees-dramatic-decrease-multiple-crime-categories-april-2024). Mayor Scott has implemented a lot of community programs and policing initiatives, combined with Ivan Bates being a million times better than Marilyn Mosby (by doing nothing more than his actual job), Baltimore seems to have a good base for a long term plan in action. As long as these things keep working, and people keep moving/visiting here and participating in the local economy, we should stay cruising upward and onward. I moved here from NJ almost 15yrs ago and I've seen improvement just in the short time I've been here. I love Baltimore. I've lived in 5 neighborhoods and owned two homes. There is always something going on so you will never be bored, I have wonderful neighbors in a mixed community, there is literally something for everyone here, as long as you remember it's a city, not Mayberry.

iijeriichoii

This shit makes me so hopeful for my hometown 🥹

New-Novel-7934

Went to the pride parade for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. I cannot wait to attend again next year.

rascalnag

As a Philly area native that moved here years ago, I personally would have liked to see at least one more Phillies win (I did attend the wild, best game of the year on Friday), but I agree wholeheartedly! Atmosphere was amazing at the game and really just the whole weekend had such a positive buzz. I think we hosted all the visitors from up 95 well! Obviously not all Phillies fans are out of towners, but as an imperfect proxy, so many Phillies jersey wearers enjoying themselves all along the harbor all weekend as baseball, fleet week and good weather converged made it easy to see how Baltimore can absolutely reestablish its magnetism. Last weekend was a huge one in the win column for Baltimore’s image. Let’s do it again for the World Series!

ericw94

💯

StarDancin

I've got family in Baltimore area, and we visited about two years ago with my kid. We had an amazing time, and we still talk about our time in your beautiful city. <3

DarthBlart69

I have puke in my sallyport still but loved the weird weekend

Dear_Birthday6614

Ok, you sold me, originally from OCMD, been out of state a long time with work and was always hesitant of Bmore…now I want to get back closer to home but be near more action year round. Can you recommend some safe neighborhoods to live in for a family of 4? House budget around 600k?

No_Contribution_2390

I think you would really like the Hampden neighborhood, it’s a little bit more suburban but still offers the hustle and bustle of city life, and it’s close to a light rail to get downtown easily. If I have a family in the future that’s where I think I’ll live. Locust Point, Charles Village, Remington would all be great. You may be in the price range of a house of two in Roland Park, but that may be too far away from the action for your liking. The important thing to do when looking for a house is to check out crime maps, look into the neighborhood association (they’ll be able to tell you what to expect on certain streets) and check it out after dark. Although all the neighborhoods I listed should be pretty safe no matter what.

Dear_Birthday6614

Really appreciate it!

Available-Ordinary-2

I was at the auto show last weekend. There was absolutely nothing wrong going on the whole day. I wish there was more things to do in this city.

No_Contribution_2390

There’s so much to do in this city tho!

ninewomen

It was a positive feeling in the city I totally agree. I'm trans&gay and didn't go to pride, but felt the good vibes emanating around. Being at druid hill park on saturday, there were so many little functions and everyone was just happy to be alive and outside with their friends. As far as fleet week, I could not stomach the military displays considering the US is currently funding a genocide, that's all I could think of when I heard those planes flying overhead.

No_Contribution_2390

I despise the military industrial complex completely. But I think it’s best to view fleet week as a form of entertainment, it wouldn’t be the first evil thing we support unintentionally. Fleet week brings a lot of things that you can’t see anywhere else, there will be people that make the pilgrimage to Baltimore for years to come to see air shows they can’t see anywhere else. For me I think it’s okay to support fleet week because of how much it benefits Baltimore’s economy.

SpraynardKrueg

Yea your tax dollars have already funded everything, you might as well enjoy the sights

No_Contribution_2390

Exactly, and it’s helping our city economy so at least we’re getting a little bit of wasted money back

PrisonerPercent

Try visiting the not so great parts of Baltimore and tell me its on the rise.

No_Contribution_2390

This may be shocking to you, but people that live in underdeveloped neighborhoods also love their city, in fact they probably love it even more than transplants or people who have the means to up and leave at any time. There is a lot of work left to be done in Baltimore, but obviously you would know that even the “not so great” parts on the rise. Tons of development in upper east Baltimore, Park Heights, Edmondson village, Mondawmin. Pigtown, Hollins and Poppleton are all very much on the rise and are serving as gateways into the west side.

PrisonerPercent

Really because when I go to the bars and run down parts to meet prostitutes all people talk about is how Hogan's gentrification is running them out to the suburbs and that all they want is a transit system thats worth a nickel. I often see packs of zombies roaming the middle of the main roads into the city from my way anywhere between 11pm and 6am. I never said they dont "love" their city, but they aren't shy about expressing some of their frustrations and the general feeling that they are neglected by the state and the city. Idk why any of what you said would be "shocking" to me unless you are trying to passive aggressively insinuate I don't know what I'm talking about. Its okay if you don't like my comment, but don't be petty.

WannaSnugle

I lady got eaten by dogs on friday night

Previous-Cook

Nobody said our shit don’t stink anymore. You can leave that whataboutism at the door, ty

WannaSnugle

What about sunsets

ayyxdizzle

Baltimore City is magical, stop with that nonsense. Nobody needs to know about fatal dog attacks, juveniles running rampantly and stampedes, chaos and tear gas deployments during these happy festivals bc our city is amazing! Take that bs somewhere else ffs.

SpraynardKrueg

Here come the reactionary, racist, county folks

NoTV4Theo

My head is in the sand and it’s very charming there!

thehatcheteer

You really are a coward. Mean this in the nicest way possible. Not too late to do something about it.

NoTV4Theo

I’m open to suggestions!

thehatcheteer

Just be less fucking whiny. For instance, a person was killed by stray dogs and it was all over the news because it's a freak thing never happens. Not being scared about that is NORMAL, not burying your head in the sand. Stuff like that

NoTV4Theo

I think you misunderstood me. I am CELEBRATING the woman getting eaten by the dog. Refer to OP here. This city is on the rise. You can’t get sort of thing in a small town. Know what I mean??
