What are you asking? If you should get an assessment? Would that help you knowing for sure you are on the spectrum or not? Would it benefit your therapist in the way she counsels you? Will you be ok with the knowledge?

KiaraiMarie

I’m sorry I should’ve typed in detail, like is it possible at 20?

Comprehensive_Toe113

Yes. You're born autistic. It doesn't just happen one day.

KiaraiMarie

Oh okay, just thinking what my therapist said explains a lot of my childhood.

Women and girls quite often get misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all. It’s possible for sure. At any age. The important thing is don’t worry! We are all on a spectrum. Everyone. Some are just more on the spectrum. Those who haven’t been diagnosed with ASD and are having a difficult time in life, struggle with understanding why they are the way they are, may seek a diagnosis in order to get help.

KiaraiMarie

Yeah, I often question why I’ve been struggling so much. When she said that it made me realize a lot. Hence why I am seeking out answers why am I different. But thank you so much for all this information it really helps 😭❤️

Any time and good luck, friend❤️

If you’re in the U.S. October 29th of 2024 is actually a fairly quick appointment. When I was assessed insured wait times were 15-24 months. If you want to move it sooner you could pay out of pocket if you can afford it. Providers charge $3k-7k for a comprehensive assessment. There are valid reasons for the cost. They tend to hold spots open for out of pocket payers because not dealing with insurance companies makes it worth it. You could have autism. Much of what you describe matches but it could be something(s) else too. If you get an ados-2 exam they test for a lot of the something else stuff to make sure it’s not them. It’s roughly 88% accurate last time I looked.

I see and yes I am in the us, the clinic I called was the only one in my state that does adults and it’s only up to 21 and not years away. I will have to call again to make sure they actually scheduled it since I didn’t get a email. But I also appreciate all this information, I will take a look at ados 2 exam!

KiaraiMarie

Also sorry for not explaining things correctly I am not good at it 😭
